“Zoom up the board & unload 4 Contemptor dreadnoughts.” That mental image was awesome.
Took one of these with my Imperial Fists when i was facing down a warlord Titan, transporting 10 assault centurions and a chaplain dreadnought. it took a hell of a beating from the titan but manged to distract it away from my big guns and get it's payload with in range, where the centurions were able to charge and bring down the titan!
I don't recommend it in small games but it really shines in big games where IMO it was made to transport centurions
It gets a large number of units from A to B, draws a tonne of fire and shoots some stuff. If it does, it's worth the points.

Here’s an idea for future content - Forge World models like the Mastodon can be taken in a Chaos Space Marine army, and I for one would appreciate either a separate video or an additional couple extra minutes to go over combos in Chaos Space Marine armies.

Ok so what you do is you go salamanders in a spearhead and super heavy auxiliary detachment. In the spearhead you get bary'arth ashmantle as your HQ and then three siege dreadnoughts with double inferno cannons. in the superheavy you have just he mastodon of course. Bray'arth is your only HQ so he can be your warlord and you give him the reroll number of flamer shots for every one in 6". that's some big flamebois coming out of that steel behemoth. 6 2d6 strength 7 AP-1 or 2 (depending on turn) and damage 2 rerolling number of shots is a wall of flame even without Bray'arths flamers
Also you have 201pts leftover you can put into anti-tank like a contemptor mortis dreadnought with two twin las cannons and a cyclone missile launcher. Full dreadnought and mastodon army sounds awesome but my wallet wants to die just thinking about it
Can transport dreadnoughts, but not Primaris. Sigh. I blame Cawl. :)
...since stuff like that is unlikely to be played in "serious" games anyway, you might just house rule it 🙂. I mean, it just doesn't make any sense...
So Primaris are claustrophobic I guess? Or is it "for reasons"?
@@mainepants Their transports DO all have them sitting in the open beds of anti-grav pickup trucks, so you may have something there. Emperor only knows who's driving the fool things if the Primaris can't handle enclosed spaces. My guess is Squats, since Cawl coming up with all "his" innovations unaided is just implausible.
I blame their greedy corporate model.

I’m planning a Space Wolves conversion of a Mastodon, but with an actual Fenrisian mammoth instead of the tank.

Why? I heard Mastodon's were no longer manufactured because Sly Marbo was able to airlift in an entire chapter of marines with just his finger.
The IH psychic power Psysteel Armour is great with these void shields. It adds one to the saving throw. It does affect invun saves but it isn’t an invun, it’s a void shield.
Yeah, this thing's like two Baneblades, and I mean the most expensive baneblades, in terms of points. You could take three land raiders for less, have 48 wounds to this things 30, and still carry 30 guys. Also 12 lascannons beat 8 meltas, though that anti air gun in kind of amazing. I think it needs to be dropped a few hundred points. Hell, forget shooting it at all. Run a few lines of cheep infantry in front of it.
I suggest going by the Index points cost: 734 points base, 854 points total. The vehicle is lightly armed and clearly meant to be a transport. I'd say that's a much more reasonable cost and you'd have enough points left to make use of its transport capacity. Nothing about this vehicle justifies its current 1000+ point cost.
My best advice is to just ignore Chapter Approved 2017's points changes and use the Imperial Armor Index costs for friendly matches. The Index scales a lot better with the current game. Just make sure your opponent is cool with it.
This would be an interesting video to update today. This thing has changed a lot in two years.

Could I be able to take a hellforged Mastodon as a supreme command detachment for my Thousand Sons? My warlord haveing the cult of duplicity trait, Duplicitous Tactician, witch allows my to redeploy 9 inches away from the enemies face before start of the game. then it can spew out 40 tzaangors for a turn 1 charge or a bunch of rubrics with warp flamers and my sorcerers.
That is an idea or would 2 spartans be better for that blitz tactic?
Spartans, their lascannons will make it so that a tank dies immediately, and then you can use infernal hunger to power sword your way through any escorting chaff. Just keep an eye out for in the belly of the beast.
Oh, so that's where they came up with the idea for this thing: vanguardminiatures.co.uk/shop/novan-elites-stormer-siege-breaker-assault-carrier/ I never recognize the ones they've ripped off from FW. Hell of a lot cheaper in 6mm, and probably more viable to actually use on the tabletop. Over 1000 points is pretty silly.

@@AuDHDeepDive Wahapedia always has the latest points cost, but I would also recommend finding a copy or scan of the Forgeworld Imperial Armor books. GW seems to be actively trying to eliminate Forgeworld Units and slapped them all with crippling points increase in 2017. The old points cost in Index actually scales with current 40k a lot better.
Examples of Forgeworld Index costs: 854 point Mastodon, 817 Falchion, 828 Thunderhawk, 1500 Warhound Titan.
If only it could transport Primaris.....
Also, gotta love FW price gouging for different countries... 326 Pounds is 375 USD... so where's that extra $130 coming from, FW? I know it doesn't cost that much to ship it. Even if it weighed 10lbs that'd be about ~$50 for shipping, and I'm sure they can get better prices as a medium sized company, not a normal person shipping something.

Blood angles can auto blow this vehicle as it has power of the machine spirit when it drops to 0[machine spirit vengeance is the strat I think?].... yikes! :)
For those that want this model just an FYI, this kit is one of the worst ever made by GW. Barely anything fits together and you will have a hard time trying to get everything to glue together. Then you';; need a lot of greenstuff or modeller putty. This kit is evil.

I have heard of people using hair dryers to bend pieces back into shape.
@@Ironsides1985 That's not the problem. Someone from my local gaming store showed me just how bad this kit is. large gaps everywhere. The back didn't fit and was longer than the rest. Massive problems. The hair dryer wouldn't have solved this.

@@jonniezodiac What's a recast? Is that something where GW has the first batch and then more batches later on. Or a 2nd casting of the model? Not sure what that means.

Its like they dont WANT to sell any. I think GW hates forgeworld, so they dick over the rules hoping they will go under. Which i guess is working since the few forgeworld models i have are totally legit not at chinese copies
Let's see... overpriced in points? Check. Underpowered? Check. Incompatible with all the new units coming out? Check. By the throne, they really are trying to kill Forgeworld.

The thing is, Primaris can embark on Thunderhawks, but not on this thing. Probably because it's a Relic and the Primaris Operating Handbook doesn't detail its use.

Their reason for land raiders not holding Primaris was that they were too big. But Custodes could, hence the joke above.
