Thanks for the update Lee. I'm not surprised that it flies well, considering the many MiniHawks that perished to get the aerodynamics right. To provide the community some properly sanitized news for how things are going on my end, Jumper has indeed reached out to me via email..... if or when my concerns and wishes are resolved, I'll make that known.

We had such a dry spell without many new planes for the past few years, it must’ve been tough to have both this and the Swordfish around at the same time. These two models really bring us into a whole new world of production planes.

Hi Lee, Well, it's 2023, and Jumper still hasn't released any manual, but I have just received my XIAKE in, and I didn't get the model that came with the T-PRO, so I ordered the Radiomaster Boxer. Thanks again for the information on how to set up a different radio. I can't wait until I can fly it.
hi lee, great video, thanks. Small correction, it is not the speed of updates to the ESC that is changed with bdshot, they are already using dshot, so speed of update is the same. The bdshot change is to make the dshot protocol bi-directional, which means the ESC provides RPM feedback to the flight controller. With normal dshot it is one-way, so the flight controller doesn't know the motor RPM. Having the RPM feedback means ArduPilot can setup notch filters properly to filter out gyro noise in a much better way, which means we should be able to retune with higher D and P gains (as the tune is probably noise limited now). That should result in a better tune
The much bigger change will be if we can get EKF3 to fuse vertical GPS velocity without a compass during the initial takeoff. That would allow QHOVER to be used which would be easier to fly

Hey, I've been a long time fewer and subscriber of your channel and after about 6 years I'm getting back into the Hobby and I'm a bit overwhelmed, there's a lot of very new things and I'm used to the old style simple fpv setups and all that kind of stuff I know my old gear still works but there's a lot of new gear and new technology I'd love to see a recommendations video to kind of bring people up to speed on what to get and how to just simply get up in the air with a simple fpv setup. Lost of love from the us
Hey Jayde. You haven't missed a lot. COVID really stopped a lot of the innovation and new toys so everything you had/have is still relevant today. In the past 6 years there have only been two things that have come along of any note. HD FPV (available in lots of versions - DJI, Walksnail, HDZero etc.) and VTOL models becoming more and more common (as shown in the video).
80% of my viewers are still flying analogue FPV with 60% only flying analogue. So, it won't take long to get back up to speed as everything you knew is still relevant! Best of luck!

Hey Lee. I did a quick test yesterday. Unfortunately I just took off a bit in qhover, it was too windy and I didn't have the guts to try transitioning to normal flight and it also felt too unstable, probably need some tuning, I'll try again another day. Anyway, I was able to make yapuu work, I just had to select the CRFS protocol in its configuration.

The aileron servo cable can be made to fit in the miniscule space provided as long as you fold wires in the correct order and kink the wires beyond normally considered safe. I added a couple of photos to the ArduPilot forum (hopefully) showing the way the wires need to be folded.

@@Painless360 Either a suitable recess or a proper connector would be better than the present method. I like the connectors used by MakeFlyEasy (MFE) like ones in their Fighter and Freeman VTOLs.
That would have made a ton is sense. I am a fan of connections that are made automatically when things like removable tails and wings are attached. Happy flying!
Does it have a barometer for altitude hold? Thanks Lee. (If it doesn't, a barometer, as well as a compass, might be added via UART and I2C connections, respectively, if of course, the flight controller has those connections available.)

Hi Lee What ! I am in love with the JumperXIAKE, Iamorderingmine tonight. Wonderful choice of radio. I will have to do my Xlite, Nooo not ARDUPILOT! BUT no problem, I have a friend who is way smarter than me when it comes to the computer. That reminds me, I'm going to need a new camera and vtx, im still analog. So my favorite camera is the Caddx Ratel starlight, and the AKK DOMINATOR V2 3w VTX, woW it fliesmy what script ? Im pretty sure I don't have it. I'm so glad you like it. I just can't wait until I can get everything together, for I can order it and the video system. By then, I hope you will have some time to get the settings dead-on. Hello Lee, great review! Planning to buy my first vtol aircraft. Which one handles the wind and flies better? T1 ranger vtol or jumper xiake 800?
i just orderd the PNP with elrs. just waiting on a ranger module. i think im going to throw in a aanlog i already have to make sure i liike it before going didgal caddx vista. this will be my first vtol to set up. doesnt look to terrible difficult

30 mins is listed in the specs for the model but how much time you spend in hover makes a huge difference..

Hi Lee excellent video as always. Since I’m new to VTOLs, do I need to be at mid throttle on arming, or just at zero throttle? How about at transition and landing?
Wouldn't a manual be good! :D I transition at hover throttle and back about 50% throttle. Seems to work ok.
Lee - when in forward fixed-wing flight, is the Xiake800 throttle 'fixed', as in other recently released VTOLs ??

Hi Lee, I fly multirotors and I'm trying to get into wings/planes/vtols mainly for long range exploring and mountain surfing. Would you recommend this product for that use or would you go with something like the atomrc swordfish. Would use them with caddx vista. Thanks
The first models you try with fixed wing will take a lot of damage so I'd choose something that is cheap and easy to fix at first. Painless - you say CG 30 mm behind the leading edge. So about 2mm forward of the track for the aileron wire? With a 4S 18650 pack, I have to add about 20 gms of ballast under the tail motor to put ithe CG there.
I needed a touch of ballast under the tail using a much lighter battery.... Happy flying
Lee, I think you couldn't get Yaapu working on your TX16 with EdgeTX. You need version 1.96 and it will work fine!

Hey Lee and good day. What does your buddy Ben have to say about this model? I know he's the Vtol Jedi Master who prefers a larger plane in most regards. It just seems the simplicity might strike him as a Thumbs Up model.
I don't think this is his cup of tea as those guys are more professional UAV systems made from high end componennts for professional use. This definatley isn't that... Happy flying!

Answered my own question, apparently 30 minutes on 2200mah 4s 30C, source - jumpers advertising.
It depends on how much time you spend in the hover. Flying is very efficient...
Hi Lee. I can see the Xiake for sale on Aliexpress but no parts. I bet, eventually, I will crash and break the title motor assembly. Are Jumper going to sell spares?
Your guess is as good as mine. The tilt assemblies are copies too so you could probably print replacements if they don't offer them.. Happy flying

About 15mm-20mm from the leading edge. Pretty far forward..

Hi Lee, I would like to use the OSD MSP HD with an air unit... the XIAKE800 is coming with ArduPilot 4.2.2 and for the HD option needs the 4.3 at least. Do you know which firmware target to use? I don't see this FC listed in the ArduPilot firmware upgrade page.... any clue?

I noticed a few things with this .... When if i change the elrs packet settings from 333hz full ( which is default) to any other setting, the Yaapu script runs really slow and there is huge lag on the voice announcements. Really dont understand why. When i set the packet rate to 333hz full again yaapu goes back to working normally. Am i missing something here?

Me again!. Im curious what kind of flight times you were able to get with the gens ace 2200 mah 4s? (I know its depends on how you fly , but assuming you did 1 vertical take off and 1 landing , with the rest of the time flying as a wing )
I need a lot more flying with more 'typical' flights to comment. I'd say about 20mins from what I've done so far but I am hovering more than needed..

Hello 👋 Do you know if the pix hawk Fc has onboard Osd or if a separate module has to be installed for on screen display telemetry ? What type would be needed for analog system if a separate osd module is needed ?? Thank you for your time!
There are lots of 'Pixhawk' flight controllers so check the specs on the one you are using. Inbuilt OSD support for analogue FPV isn't usually included.. Happy flying
Hey Lee, I got the RTF version of this bird with the ELRS T--Pro, however, I am unable to bind it in its supplied state. Is this normal or am I missing something? I mean, this is a Ready-To-Fly product which I should be able to take out of the box and put in the air, right? But, without any RC link...
ELRS radio and receiver needs to be on the same major version to bind. See my ELRS series.. Best of luck!

Hi Lee, I followed your Tx setup video and everything works except when I disarm the model the motors keep spinning at idle speed. I would appreciate your input as it is a little nerve wracking sticking ones fingers into the midst of 3 whirling props to unplug. Cheers.
Are you sure that it is disarmed? I'd check that as step one then also check what protocol the ESCs are set for. If it isn't something like DShot then they will need calibrating... Best of luck

connected the polar caddx air unit to the jumper xiake 800 . on DJI Avata glasses , FPV does not output OSD . how do I display the indicators on the screen ? any suggestions?

Hi Lee do you know if it is possible to enable weather vaning or prop assist features that you discussed on your vtol build series with Ben at 3dxr... If so what flight mode would you need for takeoff... In quadcopter mode.. Because it says it weather vaning doesn't work with q stablize flight mode... Which is the preconfiguired take off flight mode... It flew OK and transition went well but it did struggle with the wind if you happened to get side on to it... When landing.. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks
I've not tried it on this. There are lots of reported issues with dodgy IMU measurements causing issues in wind. ardupilot.org/plane/docs/quadplane-weathervaning.html

I was asking about current draw because im struggling to find the gens ace battery you have and was considering building a lithium ion pack. Im a little worried that the current draw may be a bit too much for a lion pack, especially during vertical flight

If it would be to decide between this and a T1 with a VTOL kit, what would you choose?
Until I've tried the Ranger T-1 build and conversion I can't talk to the way they fly. I can say that the Ranger T-1 conversion is more expensive and needs a lot more expertise to get in the air.

CRSF is the protocol already setup in the flight controller. Are you referring to swapping to a Crossfire Nano RX ?

I finally received my Xiake 800, but I can't get it to work because I want to install my immesionRC ghost receiver and the flight controller doesn't recognize it. I removed the ELRS receiver that came with the plane and plugged my receiver (VCC-VCC GND-GND SRXL2-TX2 into the receiver). I need help, what am I doing wrong?
Does the reciever support CRSF? That is what the ExpressLRS reciever would have been sending...
Something is not right, I’ve tried a frsky xsr and the Sliders are not moving. Is there a parameter to change the protocol like we do in Inav?

@@Painless360 I've been experimenting with the different options for this RC_OPTIONS parameter but so far I haven't been able to get the receiver working. There are many options and I don't know which ones to choose. For a simple FrSky XSR which options should i choose? and is it just this parameter that i have to change or are there more? thank you
An XSR is SBUS. So choose SBUS... Best of luck

It's only the amount of worried messages I've had that has caused the making of the video. As I stated in the first video, the lack of a proper manual for any product is a major red flag.. Happy flying
