    I had never used a fish finder before, my family grew up fishing "the ole fashion way" I used your tips and settings on my garmin striker 4 and got on a school of crappie 1st trip out, must have caught 20-30. Love kayak fishing now! BTW the weather was 38 degrees with wind 10-15.

    Lol. You've got me geeked for my Striker 4 to get here. I blindly caught about a dozen bass on watts bar today, but only about half were better than 14". 3 inch white yum grub and 1\8 oz jig head. If I could only have one bait to use for the rest of my life, that'd be it. I caught a catfish that was about 22-24" too. That was fun in the yak. Thanks for the vids. I feel like I have a great head start already on my striker 4 unit already and it's not even here yet lol. Take care man.

    Thank You! for your series on the Garmin Striker 4.
    I am *brand new* to using a fish finder. Your videos have helped me understand what my Garmin Striker Vivid 4cv is showing me, and why. After watching your Fish Arch Interpretation video, I was actually able to see a fish being painted in the A-Scope pane before the alarm sounded and it was painted in the "history" display pane. Also, just as important, what it's not showing me i.e. the position of a fish after it's out of the cone and in the "history" display pane. What I haven't seen in any video is how to *use* the information the Striker is giving me "to catch more fish".
    I am using auto scroll speed. Are there any videos that will help me understand:
    Is there a way to know if the fish is moving (both if I am moving and if I am stationary)?
    - If the fish is 5ft above the bottom with no structure nearby is it likely cruising for food?
    If the fish is moving, is there any way to tell what direction, how fast... ?
    Ultimately, how can I use the display to help me target a fish that just passed through the cone?
    - If I see a fish painted near structure (including the bottom) how do I target a fish that was just painted on the display?
    - - How do I tell where - how far the structure is at at the moment I see the structure painted on the display from my position in relationship to the A-Scope cone width?
    - If I am trolling or just underway, how do I target a fish that was just painted on the display?
    Thanks

    • @1Cast1Fish
      @1Cast1Fish  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      These are all great questions, however the answers to these questions are best answered with more advanced sonar such as Live Scope, 360 Imaging, Live Target...Ect. This gap is what these sonars were built for...however for this increased knowledge they want you to pay pretty dearly.
      Now some questions can be answered with the 2D Sonar to some extent....
      So lets go back in time a bit...anglers used to use a buoy they would toss out to mark structure when they went over it for casting reference. Same holds true today....you can see the structure and toss a marker or mark the area as a waypoint.
      Now with the trolling aspect, in general, the fish you see will end up behind you, so if you are trolling and see a fish, and you know your cone is 25ft...you can assume the fish is behind the boat within a 25ft wide area. (Not always 100%) but a general assumption.
      Like I said, as anglers wanted more data to pin point fish, sonar has advanced...with the newest live Scope Sonar you can watch a jig hit the fish.

    Just bought my first fishing kayak and was lucky enough to get a Striker 4 with it. I have zero experience reading fish finders and your videos have been life savers! Thank you so much! I do have a question. Once you know the area of coverage, how do you know where (which direction) to cast for a fish that has came across?

    • @1Cast1Fish
      @1Cast1Fish  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I get this a lot, and unfortunately there is no real way to know when using 2D sonar...you need side imaging or 360 sonar to determine this.

    Great videos! I'm new to fishing in my kayak since last season. I got this setup for Christmas last year and love it. I hope this isn't a stupid question but when i see fish on my garmin, how do i know where they are? under my kayak, the side, the front? I'm confused with this

    • @1Cast1Fish
      @1Cast1Fish  ปีที่แล้ว

      That is the difficulty with standard 2D sonar...it is very hard to know where within the cone they are. This is why new technologies have emerged such as side imaging, 360 sonar, and livescope.

      Use the 77kHz beam (wider beam) and up your sensitivity (gain) I like to put my gain in manual and adjust it about 75+% for jigging sometimes up to 95....just depends on water clarity and noise.

    Any chance you could show the differences and comparisons of the striker 4 transducer generally sold with the unit compared to the ice fishing transducer that's sold separately? Many use the traditional transducer on the hard water with make shift T's to keep it level in the hole but no ones done a comparison to show the differences or advantages the actual ice transducer can have. Luv the channel. Thanks

      Yes, It is the most use item on the screen IMO...it tells me that a fish is directly in my sonar cone....this is more important if ice fishing or vertical jigging.

    Since I’m sitting in my recliner and won’t be going out for a few days maybe you can answer this for me before I hit the water again. Does the A-scope feature work on the split screen? I am usually in waters greater then 50 feet on my kayak.

    • @1Cast1Fish

      Sorry I missed this comment somehow, but yes the A-Scope is active on the split screen if you turn it on. I like the split screen for 50+ feet depths as well.

    New to fish finders and boat fishing. So learning how to read and set up is a pain. I think i know but i dont. Also my vivid4cv has so much to learn when i still dont know what im doing with the traditional. Ive watched alot of your videos about my settings but still dont know if its a fish or something else or gow bug. Can u dumb it down for me on how to set up contrast and such so i can see better. Love the channel

    • @1Cast1Fish
      @1Cast1Fish  ปีที่แล้ว

      Best advice I can give for starting out, is leave everything at factory settings, hat gets you pretty much 75% of the way there most of the time. As for reading the info on the screen and fish, watch the video on using the fish icon feature...turn on the icon with the normal traditional sonar behind it. This way you can be alerted to fish or potential fish and see what the sonar returns look like as well for learning. Jope this helps some.

  • @Johmersimpson
    @Johmersimpson 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video. Did not know that about the depth on AScope. Thanks for the tip. Just picked up the Striker 4cv vivid but it’s still winter here by me. Can’t wait for open water.
    How does the GT20 transducer (the one included) compare to the GT22HW-TM or GT23M-TM for the Striker 4CV? I see these two are compatible with the Striker 4CV and wonder if returns would be “more detailed/crisp”?

    • @1Cast1Fish
      @1Cast1Fish  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The higher end Chirp transducers are definitely more clear. On the 4" screen it is tough to tell though...but on larger screens the difference is very noticeable.

    • @1Cast1Fish
      @1Cast1Fish  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So my trolling motor is bow mounted and I like then with the transducer rear facing the prop. Seems to get less water disturbance interference that way

    Got the ice bundle. What is the summer transducer for the Striker 4 Plus ... with contour mapping and gps

    • @1Cast1Fish
      @1Cast1Fish  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So the ice bundle basically comes with the cone shaped transducer, the regular summer transducer looks like a regular transducer. The contour mapping and GPS is internal to the main unit itself, meaning if you have a Plus model or above with it, the unit will always have it, and if a lower ended model without it, you can not add it.

    How do you know where, from within the cone, a fish is entering the display? The graph is running right to left, but given that we are dealing with a cone, the fish could be entering the display from any point on a compass.

    • @1Cast1Fish
      @1Cast1Fish  ปีที่แล้ว

      This is one of the downsides of standard 2D sonar, and this question paved the way for down and side view sonars, as well as 360 and live scope. Unfortunately without the newer more advanced and expensive options knowing exactly with 2D sonar is a bit touggh

    Great videos. From calculating i made in 200khz at 10 meters the radius is 2.62 meters and in 77khz the radius is 8.28 meters. And it is getting greater with the depth. It seems that the 77khz is the most efficient for fishing. If the striker 4 works simultaneously with the two frequencies it was great.

    I’m new to this so I have a really stupid question. What is the perspective of the screen scroll relative to the boat? When the screen scrolls left to right, what am I seeing? Which direction is the boat headed relative to the screen? Figuratively speaking, is it coming towards you (i.e. toward your face waching the screen) or is the boat moving to the right of the screen? Not sure my question makes sense.

    • @1Cast1Fish
      @1Cast1Fish  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Perfect question, but unfortunately a imperfect answer.. so the screen is a 2D representation of a 3D transducer cone...so it is hard to pinpoint exact locations within that cone on a horizontal plane relative to a boat. Plus as the screen moves left it is history, not current data. This is why side imaging and now 360 sonars are so popular...they address this issue.

    I was thinking about purchasing the striker 4 for my boat, the question is the lake I frequently fish is a peat moss pond and has a very soft bottom and is mostly a consistent 4 ft. depth. so is the cone range going to be only about a foot in diameter?

    • @1Cast1Fish
      @1Cast1Fish  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly, this is the part than many people do not fully understand, but you seem to get it...you are right...at about 4ft the cone will be very small...now I would not say useless as you can find and mark things like brush, waypoints, and even map the contours depending on model. All of which can be useful, but as far as trying to find fish in a mossy shallow pond, it may be tough. I found that in shallow water I am a fan of side imaging sonar as it works best to scan out and away from the boat even in shallow water, at 4ft of water you may be able to see 10-15ft to the sides.

      1st make sure the depth is turned on in the settings for your overlays
      I would check all the pins and holes to make sure nothing is broke, bent, or dirty (Both transducer and unit)
      Possible need to try a factory reset

    • @1Cast1Fish
      @1Cast1Fish  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The speed is able to be shown or hidden in the overlay menu.
      As far as the depth flashing, I will assume it is while on plane? Depending on boat hull, speed, and transducer location it sounds like you are just losing contact. The transducer may be in a dirty water (turbulent or air bubbles) area, it could be mounted to high, or it just is not making enough water contact due to speed and lift of the hull.
      Does the depth come back when you slow down?
      On my boat, when on plane at full speed, the transducer is literally out of the water....so no reading, I use a second in hull mount transducer for on plane depth reading.
      What type of boat and speeds you running?

    • @1Cast1Fish
      @1Cast1Fish  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So with SV you can get pretty close...take your cone diameter and figure it may be 20ft...now with just 2D sonar you can determine the fish is somewhere in a 20ft circle around the boat. Now with SV you can see the fish is either on the left or right of the cone, plus you can see if the fish is near the front or rear of the SV cone...so now you know the fish is somewhere within a 1/4 quadrant give or take....so you can easily determine where the dead water is.
