A pal of mine loaned me his Gold Star. I was amazed by how much motorbike he got for his money. I love my BSA GS 650 after 6000 miles. If the bike is leaking fluids and it has had the health check, sounds like a dealer error. The washer on the reserve oil tank may not have been replaced/nipped up properly. Coolant leak sounds odd, but may be from the same service issue. My bike handles well,if a little slow steering, check tyre pressures and crank up the preload on rear shocks to suit your riding.

Hi Bill. This perfectly encapsulates what I am meeting with owners, their bikes are okay, perfect and trouble free. But for the rest of us we have defects in the machines. We have extended wait times for warranty and extended wait times on parts that are on back order. - I did check the oil tank O-ring on mine as its a known issue. What I am seeing is a percentage of bikes that are produced badly, so if it were a confectionary bar, how many defective chocolate bars does it take to do a recall? One in five? One in five hundred? - Its a logistical nightmare for BSA I am sure. I suspect this isn’t the end of my troubles as the bike had been off the road now since i got it home with an even bigger issue which i am editing, plus I have been sure to show owners what to look for before their bike succumbs to the exact same fault. - I really wish this BSA was reliable like yours.

they come as standard with a good toolkit, but you have to borrow an allen key! Your bike has certainly had a number of previous owner mods, irrespective of its low miles. Good luck with what are minor niggles potentially caused by the first owners mods, but your post certainly attracts the haters. I've ridden mine on some atrocious roads this winter, gravel in the wet and find it very confidence inspiring. Its early days for the new brand. I wish them well, we're in a major recession here and the first batch all sold out quickly and the second batch. Will be interesting to see how they go in India where RE have fierce brand loyalty. You brits got the first ones and the company is making these bikes in tiny numbers until they establish into the bigger markets like India, North America and Australia. @MotoTingle  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

This is a very common statement that "its under warranty". I think from an owner’s perspective, trying to achieve warranty is the issue. An example is my local dealer had over 4 weeks waiting just to get your bike into their workshop. And I am seeing even longer waiting times, its all multi franchise dealers but you’d think they would expand their workshops if they were so busy, so to test this, I booked in my sons Kawasaki. 7 days! That’s right Seven days and his Kawasaki is into exactly the same workshop. My BSA I get to wait a month. Seeing this mentioned online where workshops are prioritising their workload to favour whatever they like most. So today ill do a phone around and see if this is true for dealers further away. - Again, from an owners perspective, you have a fault (could happen to any brand) then you get an extended wait for warranty. Plus I was told this bike has had its recall but he didn’t have any paperwork as the dealerships are all putting it online. So now im "did he tell me the truth?", to be fair, he was a nice guy, hasn’t lied about anything else. I would like this ownership experience to improve, lets see how it goes

I bought a 2004 Kawasaki zx10r, had to return it because of dodgy handlebars clamps and a recall for a front wheel but 20 years on the bike runs like it did from day one so no reason to pull a manufacturer down, it may take time to sort it but insure they will.

Water cooled Rotax has no character, and the massive radiator completely destroys the looks of a big bore 1960s single.
It's not home maintenance friendly and Triumph make better modern retros.
Royal Enfields with both the 350 and 650 have hit the classic old school retro nail on the head .

As a GoldStar owner since March 23 I've had only a few minor irritations but it's the company that stink in my opinion, the way they deal with their dealer's and their customers leaves a lot to be desired. The discounting over the last few months has played havoc with second hand values, i paid 6800 for my version its got 275 miles on it and a Honda dealer offered me 2600 against a bike costing 9 grand. Nobody seems to want it.

    • @MotoTingle

Lukas Distribution offered to help, said they'd have it resolved quickly. They have not done anything to assist me, front of house its all "Contact us, were here to help" and behind the scenes its "explain your faults to your local dealer". I agree the bikes have little value in the trade. The only "value" is in the stories owners tell themselves about BSA heritage. The trade know these are made in a Jawa factory and have priced their PX value accordingly and correctly. I've never not shared photos with family and friends as a new bike enters my life, until now. I would like to sell this motorcycle and be done with it. For now, I just have to wait until its repaired.

If all this crap is common as you say then why did you buy it? Especially a used bike. I do not get it.If the side panels keep popping off how did you not notice it before you handed the cash over? When I buy a bike I am over the moon. Do your homework first. You should take someone along with you who knows what they are looking at. If the bike has cheap shite stuck on it that tells you all you need to know about the previous owner. Plenty of new deals right now and then you get a warranty. If it REALLY only has 800 miles then why was it being sold? Unfortunately sounds like you bought a right dog. Doesn't matter if it is new if the first owner was a butcher. If it's handling scares you why not test ride one first. Do not get this video at all.

Bike look nice but your review is of a second hand bike with 800 miles you say in your comment it has coolant leaks! this is the first time I seen this report by an owner. But you also go on about an after market chepo mini fairing being miss alighted fitting onto the headlight, this is do to another owner fitting capability and not BSA factory. Ive written this not to be rude to you but slagging of your bike is easy to do but you should include your bike is not new and have got issues because of other owners before you got it you say its annoying to have these issues with a low milage bike Its not BSA fault but the owners before you. Ive seen on low milage motorcycles before when the owner is not trained in motorcycle repairs This is the reason why you should buy from a dealer Then you have something to write about if you had the same problems Next time buy from a dealer and you should be a lot happier but then you will have to pay more.As for the side panels take your time and put them on properly and not with hard force again Ive seen it all before If you are not happy with it give it to a motorcycle mechanic to give it a PDI and not to a home mechanic not self taught person.Regards Andy Watts from Lowestoft

@@Andy588tt I hear you. BSA corrected the faults fully under warranty. NONE were caused by previous owner intervention. They were accepted as manufacturing defects way before the video went live. The tail tidy was fitted by the supplying dealer, the only part fitted by the previous owner was the front fly screen which I removed. I am unsure why anyone thinks the previous owner caused any of the issues apart from a poorly installed fly screen? I did include the bike is not new and had one owner. I like my Gold Star, another confusing thing I’ve heard is I dislike them, which is odd for someone who’s bought one 😂 I always buy stuff I dislike. Haha! It’s all good.

It surely came with a warranty? Nothing worse than niggly faults, though. On the upside, it's a pretty bike, especially in those colours.
On the upside, again, I've got a 1998 BMW F650, and the rotax 650cc engine is super reliable, and it's the engine this BSA is based on. I've had no coolant or oil leaks or any faults in 5 years, so I think, perhaps, you've been a bit unlucky, here? However, roast the dealer and be firm and ask how they are going to make this up to you.

@@T-Bone54 It’s true, I’ve seen F650’s with 50,000+ miles. Yes it has warranty but achieving it is the issue. It takes close to 4 weeks to get a motorcycle into a dealer. That’s the real frustration

@@MotoTingle Oh, tell me about it. Often warranties are as good as the mood of the dealer and determination of the customer. It often seems as if the costs of the warranty are coming out of the salesman's own pocket, such is their reluctance to follow through.
A maxim I always follow in this regard is not to get angry, but to be the squeaky wheel that has to be oiled. Pester them, at first every couple of days, then every day, and if required morning and afternoon. It works.
They are messing you around with this 4 week nonsense, too. Imagine if you told them you'd take the bike but due to circumstances out of your control, couldn't pay them for 4 weeks?!

This pathetic replica must really suit the cheapskate wallets, anyone with any sense (especially those ageing nostalgia seeking wanabee's) should save a bit more of their pension and buy a "proper" bike. Maybe an easy first purchase, but don't kid yourselves, you will try hard to convince yourself you have a nice "new bike", bit your joy will soon become dulled when you try to part ex. even for another BSA or Royal Enfield replica, used prices of these pathetic counterfiets are falling like lead balloons in a bucket of water.
