If you ride across America try to stop by Baxter Cycle in Marne, Iowa. A fantastic Triumph / Royal Enfield dealer in a small rural town who may be a BSA dealer by the time you get there ( they are working on it ). At any rate you will be treated as an honored guest and will have a great time !
I'm the same the more you ride the GoldStar the more you love it. The character of the single needs some gelling with but you soon get it. Also its fair to say that after its first service it gets better and better. I upgraded the shocks simply because of my weight and the crazy rural roads in Lancashire.
Well BP you paint a very good picture of life with the BSA it seems like it's a bike with character like many Royal Enfield owners say of their 350's and same horses as the Interceptor hmmm sounds good👌👍
Glad your that happy with your goldie my friend. Your living proof that you don't need an expensive, 5 modes & 100 plus ponies bike. I'm another living proof with my 2022 Kawasaki W800. It does everything that I need it to do. I would like to straddle that Gold Star however. I like the idea of a single cylinder (thumper). Have a great day my British friend!! Illinois, USA
It's no mystery as to what they have done to the engine to smooth the vibe, that engine is fitted with two balance shafts which is why it's so smooth 😉
Hi Chief, I sold the BSA a couple of months ago. I still miss the Gold Star. It is a great bike. You can get a brand new BSA Gold Star with a 4 year warranty for £4999. Look on eBay. The BSA bike is wonderful. Only negative, keep and eye on the tyre pressures. If they are at the correct pressure, the bike handles like a dream. What are the negatives for the BSA. The business. Thats the problem. BSA as a business (owned by Mahindra) are doing a piss poor job of looking after their customers. Their customers being the dealerships across the UK. And because the dealerships are being abused, the dealerships are stopping sales and their support to buyers is not great. Would I buy another BSA Gold Star - yes! But I would want the dealer to make sure the software on the bike is correct and current. This then stops the engine light coming on all the time and the odd stall of the engine. Once that was sorted (and the engine light being on does not affect performance - and the occassional stall stops after 15 miles of riding when the engine is up to temperature), I wouldn't think twice about taking the BSA to the Alps 👍.
Ten seconds that might save your life. Study the clip between 35 and 45 seconds in. " cars in the queue were signaling right, how did you know they would not turn into the side road on the right. There was oncoming traffic and no-where to pull in safely then you overtake the estate car while it is making it`s overtaking of the parked vehicle. I have been a n Advanced instructor in both car and coach driving-retired now, and TBH drivers who do what you did are a nightmare and a perfect example of the phrase, "well the car driver turned right in front of me, never used his mirrors, honest guv!" I would suggest taking a more defensive way of riding......please. Could not watch the rest if the vlog, sorry.
Absolutely. Cars are indicating right and a myopic BP overtakes. A quote later in the video was " This Goldstar takes you to a different place ". Hospital, maybe?
Hi Mike, thanks for the comment. In context, you are correct. However, the move to the right of the red car (initially) was executed due to a vehicle coming up from behind me at speed. I felt sure that if I stayed in that position, I would have been shunted. Based on the silver vehicle coming up in the opposite direction, I took the decision to move forward as the car indicating to turn right was far enough from the junction ahead and, there was an 80% chance that the right indication was to overtake the parked up truck. Completely agree with you. But I was more concerned about being shunted from the back. 👍
Hi Andrew, it is a strange problem. That said, I need to recover some of the value from the bike for the next bike. Difficult as i think she is wonderful 👍
Not bad mate, I can't understand how you do this... you wanna go to America plus take the Bike with ya, and that all as a Pensioner, and a Broke one at that. I'd love a Goldie, but i'm a Pensioner and i'm Bankrupt, so know how that is like, to be in such a position! That means, at least in my eyes, that you are not being very trueful with all of us here. I demand an explanation!
Hi Steve, The link below is a vlog on why the channel is called BP. It is a future state, not a past or current state. That said, I understand your situation. In 2015/2016, I lost everything through the breakdown of a relationship which virtually left be bankrupt. I was advised at the time to claim bankruptcy of which I rightly ignored (in hindsight). To pay of debts etc, I moved to Qatar to work which allowed the debts to be paid off and savings to be achieved. Hard work, not easy work however. Moneys earned from that period allow me to buy the BSA and the Tiger and plan trips accordingly. Trust me when I say, I know where you are. Nothing worse than having to sleep in the back of the car 👎. Take a look at the video 👍. All the best Steve, and when I have 50K subscribers, I will come and help you out 👍. I guarantee that! th-cam.com/video/sdiWyTkCVWo/w-d-xo.htmlsi=FKubCAEt5AuGla66
Hi Ken, You are right. I am trying to connect with BSA to help out on the potential trip. Have local engineers available along the route etc and maybe shippable parts as they are required. you are right in mentioned this point 👍
Hi Lee, I am trying to work with BSA to get the bike over to the US. BSA over the last week have gone quiet. I assume they do not want me to ride on US soil 😆
I emailed BSA UK the other day. Got a reply from a bike importer in the USA that they are now (at this time) doing the emission testing of the G S 650. And are setting up dealers as of now? I asked what month will it be available? Will see if they respond or not. I am going to travel by motorcycle this summer. If they don't have it here by spring at the latest, I will purchase another bike. They have had plenty of time to get the bike here. Emissions could have been done 2 years ago. No excuse as far as I am concerned. I am sick of America not getting some bikes at all, or getting the bikes 4-5 years after they have been out in Europe/India. @@bankruptpensioner
@@leehart1498 bureaucracy stops the world moving at a reasonable pace Lee. So frustrating. If BSA start to sell in the US within the next three month, then my option would be to hire a machine. Let's be honest, the BSA Gold Star 650 is not a BSA Gold Star, it is a crappy cheap third world imitation of a once great British marque, the only thing that is a BSA Gold Star is the name, not even the plastic tank badge reflects anything of the BSA heritage. Purely aimed at sad old wrinklies trying to jump on the nostalgia bandwagon. Cheap to buy yes, but try part exchanging for a new model, used values drop like a lead ballon in a bucket of water and most dealers of other makes just turn their backs........

If you do the America trip go the other way, CA to NY. You won't fight headwinds all the way!

For America, have you considered buying a Sportster when you first arrive, using that for your trip & then selling before you return home.
