Last month in Bali, I met with an Argentine stranger, I told him about high speed rail in China, he asked:”do they crash often?”. Such is the world’s stereotype about China.
In China public transport does not seems to have any vandalism in them, which means AI-driven robotaxis can work if the public choose to show respect. However, in most countries vandalism often leads to property damage and in the case of AI-driven robotaxis, first thing first the internal display will get stolen or damaged and in worse case scenario rear seat will get damaged beyond repair and resulting replacements which will further increase cost to run the AI-driven robotaxis in the first place. Stereotype is one thing, but what if all they known is chaos? You are talking about experiences they never had.
I think autonomous vehicle would be more viable for mass transport like bus where it can drives faster on dedicated bus lane and less stop except bus stop
driverless taxi is just one of the options. Nobody is forcing anyone to use them. I have seen plenty of people seems to be happy using them. These robot taxi are probably station in a parking lot somewhere in the city. They are not like regular taxi that drive around looking for customers. So it depends where you are, it may be faster for some location than another location to pick you up. But the nice thing is they could pick you up any time of the day.
I worry about the reporter's wife and children (if he has any). The constant whining and irritation he shown is amazing. Maybe he should have chosen a different profession like debt-collector something.
It’s in Test stage, isn’t that obvious? Like all inventions. The sour grape vibe is full in this video, and does Singapore has any Robotaxi? Oh you don’t have? Sorry we are ahead of you
SCMP is from Hong Kong btw, not sure why SG catching stray bullets here lol. And Jack Ma owns this paper so yall Chinese people having some internal dispute.
Yes some Hong Kongers who think they have some sort of freedoms with democracy Probably not smart enough to know they move to the west that democracy means sheet with all the problems we have out here. Yall is trippin if you don't know what I'm talking about
It's weird that they just wanted to test these robo taxis, but didn't try them in Shenzhen where they are have probably been the longest, and I would assume have the most issues ironed out. Instead tried one out in Shanghai where they were rolled out recently according to the narrator, if that's the case I would assume the volume of robotaxis per capita would be low and the wait times longer, again Shenzhen would probably have a much higher per capita.
scmp being passive agressive and biased in this video, if im not wrong, the taxi has been commercially rolled out in wuhan and chengdu and many other cities already, their speed is also not slow unlike what this reporter said.... Shanghai is just one of the last ones to roll out
The main factor in how fast you can get to a destination is traffic flow, not the speed of your ride. If it drives slower but traffic congestion and "red traffic light waves" can be avoided, the journey should still be as quick or quicker.
Nice summary of the issues. Still, it's incredible seeing it out on a legal street turning and carrying real passengers. As a Tesla owner, we have been told that fully autonomous driving is in the "final testing stage" for half a decade now. Unless these cars in Wuhan are more expensive than I think, there is no excuse for these repeated failed promises
In my opinion, Elon's continued demand that Tesla be a camera only system is the leading cause of the delays. Enhancing video with lidar gives a much richer picture of the surroundings and much better data.
Actually I feel like looking at a normal middle class Indian descendant in your country makes you jealous because your condition prevents you from working and you can’t even afford that lifestyle. Moreover, your favorite country China doesn’t even consider you to be one of them.
I can already see taxi drivers abusing this car. They will be like "AI taking away our jobs." Honestly, there isn't just driving jobs in the whole world. People exaggerate and cry about it too much.
The safety person hardly ever has to take the controls. It's a pragmatic solution while the AI learns exponentially more each month & year. Eventually the safety person will be no longer required and there won't even be a steering wheel. Also, the central operations have a live view of every AV in operation. They could take control remotely at any time. There will be a button passengers can press to get live help in case of unusual situations.
@@LoganPhillipsIsCoolI don't know how wymo work internally, but we'll never know how they work internally. for example, amzn automated physical store was actually 20% AI and 80% human (remotely), while the customer think it's 100% automated. that's why they close it now.
@@YSKWatch a service like cruise had around 1 manual driver intervention every 5 mi or so of driving. Last I've heard waymo is a lot better and most rides don't need manual intervention at all. I've personally used it a lot and while you can't tell when it's remotely being driven versus autonomously, it's an amazing service
@@LoganPhillipsIsCool too much to explain, basically if waymo increase their presence 10 fold (more cities) or more in 5 years, they might have the technology, otherwise their technology are not mature enough.
Robotaxi is working in progress. But AI learns much faster than human being. Hard to image what it can do in next 3 years. Today , I will not take robotaxi if I am in hurry. But will do to experience it when time is not an issue to me.
Then it wouldn't be autonomous vehicle (AV), and the artificial intelligence (AI) wouldn't learn anything so it would all be useless effort. The safety person hardly has to touch the controls except for unusual circumstances or a bug in the software or training. The AI will probably add the safety person's interventions (if any) to its knowledge. That AI is learning at exponential rates and the safety person and even steering wheel will not be required eventually. Its pragmatic solution while the AI learns.
Geo fenced, not real driver less tech. Doesn't scale, and when a part of the city is changed? Then what? Is there no service until the city is remapped?
heard that most of the time, it's not really AI that's driving but rather a human driver that's connected wirelessly to the car from the localized control center. maybe it's AI in highway but in urban city definitely not AI because of how complex traffix signs are.
This is an interesting scenario. One solution could be that central operations has access to all AV telemetry, logs and live interior cameras. They likely already have a live map of every AV in the central operations for the area. So they could try to intervene via loudspeaker. If the passenger continues to be unresponsive, they can send a support crew or contact the local police. Or they could direct the AV to drive to the nearest hospital while they contact the ER department to expect delivery of an unresponsive passenger.
Chinese Robotaxi has been operating for some time now. Tesla Robotaxi has not begun operation yet. But you say the Chinese Robotaxi is a copycat of Tesla Robotaxi. Really funny.
