Just back from a trip to China since they’re giving everyone visa free entries, and I’m astonished! 60-70% of the cars are EV in cities with 20M+ people. A 100% cashless society with everything integrated with smartphones. Self driving buses, robots delivering goods and food to hotel rooms that are fully “smart”(voice controlled lighting, TV, AC and curtains). And boy did I mention cleanness! Sparkle clean streets and huge malls without any trash, no homeless everywhere. We felt safe even at midnight walking outside. And hospitality of the locals was just mind boggling.
Last week I went on vacation from China to Phuket, Thailand. Feeling the intense car exhaust pollution and noise in high traffic areas such as Patong Beach, I suddenly realized that I rarely feel this way anymore in my hometown, a city of 20 million people in China. The EVs do reduce environmental pollution.
CCP is one of the most polluted regimes in history what with rampant over production, over building, cheap products mass produced… nowhere to put all this junk…now what….people are jobless and penniless and banks scam left and right…the great leap backwards. Give me free Thailand any day.
Thailand is also rapidly adopting Chinese EVs, so hopefully a lot of the pollution will be reduced soon. The main problem is that most vehicle in Thailand are trucks, and there aren’t any ev trucks for sale here.
As an engineer, I visited China a few months ago to attend a convention and I was astounded. They are already ahead of us in many key technologies and the gap is widening very quickly. We Westerners need to get our act together RIGHT NOW, because the Chinese are not slowing down, in fact they are accelerating ahead. If this continues within 5 years China will be soo far ahead we will not be able to compete. After my trip, I finally realized why the media has to constantly lie to us about China. Because if they told us the truth, we'd see how much tax money our government and their corporate masters are wasting without any real benefits to the people. The Chinese government collects much less in tax revenue from their citizens and businesses, yet have to support a population of 1.4 Billion people, and is still able to provide at least 5x more benefits to their citizens than ours. I became REALLY angry at the government and it's lobbyists after I went to China, and that's when it clicked for me; THAT'S exactly why we are not allowed to be shown how well China is doing, it would foster way too much criticism and dislike for the ruling elites in the West. China's success is a major threat to our political establishment, and it doesn't matter what the Chinese do, their existence as a successful state will always be a threat our corrupt political systems.
You are very brave. Because all Western media are controlled by American NGOs. The US government is very politically hostile to Chinese socialism.BBC and CNN's reports on China are all negative.Western media always describe China as: "backward smoggy cities, where everyone still rides bicycles and wear grey old clothes because they are all poor and starving! The streets are full of police and soldiers, and people live in fear."Oh........All of my western friends who made visits to China came back with extremely high praises on China. All cities are modern.clean and very safety. There are no guns, drugs, homeless people, LGBT, delinquents, thieves, or violence in China. It is a very safe country. This the true.True you can not see it in Western media when they speak about china.
Thanks for showing the reality! 25 years in China and counting. Every time a friend or family member visits, dazzling occurs because western media keep distorting reality! Fact is I worked in import/export and over 20 years ago, designs and ideas were coming from the customers. Nowadays most of the ideas and designs are ALSO made in China. I now work in IT and on this field too the local services are just impressive and competitive compared to the west. It is not just about factories and pure production anymore.
Yes, like they say China has no innovation, but that's the time when the market is in the west and the companies in the west were close to the customers in the leading edge and whatever they improve would be the innovation, now the market is in China!

All the owner did was 'informed' the car to drive to a higher level. The car self-drive to a higher level, 'looked' for an empty parking lot, parked itself and updated the owner of its new location! The US uses the Tanya Harding strategy to compete with the Chinese. Instead of performing better, we chose to hobble the competition with threats, bans, tariffs, and sanctions.
Well, Most of the Chinese would like Trump to be the president, So that he can ban more Chinese companies and push more sanctions. It seems like bad for China but actually it's not. Here is the reason: 5 yrs ago: - Engineer: Hey! Why don't we use Chinese chips on our product? It is better! - Leader: If it goes wrong, who can handle it? You? Now: - Engineer: Hey! Why don't we use foreign chips on our product? It is better! - Leader: If it banned by the US, who can handle it? You? So,China has become the world's largest producer of semiconductor circuits in this insane 5 yrs. Its chip export value even exceeds that of electric vehicles.

Recently, many people in the auto industry have slowly seen this trend in the development of the auto industry. These cars are not cheap products. Their design, configuration, quality and price have been tested by the global market. As a person who has been traveling between the East and the West for a long time, when I saw that most people in the comment area of this video have no understanding of China's development and have serious misconceptions, I just think they are pitiful. Your video may awaken some people to take the initiative to explore and enhance their cognition, but in fact, most people are used to enjoying the spotlight from all over the world as Americans, and do not want to really understand what is happening in the world. After reading a few anti-China media articles, they closed the webpage contentedly and held a negative attitude towards everything from China. This is really funny, but it doesn't matter. Nearly every thing the west accuse China of doing, they are doing. But those accusations have no evidence and whatever "evidence" there is, have been exposed as literally made up, or deliberately misrepresented. Forced labor is so absurd, when China is ramping up to be the most robotic and mechanizied manufacturing superpower. There is no way you can forced labor hundreds of millions of people to get this kind of efficiency in manufacturing. The only answer is China's manufacturing is that efficient, and their input that cheap because they have all the supply chains figured out. From ore to cars, everything can be made in China.
you know china is much more then just the cities and new companies tryna replace human labor right? outside the big cities people are still farming with animals and carriages and a lot of businesses still use fax machines with lots of paperwork, not to mention you can't do everything online on the government's site.
China has established their dominance in EVs, they have entire supply chain inside China and if any country thinks they can manufacture EVs without using Chinese manufactured parts, and be competitive, they are absolutely wrong

I'm in China now, and I agree 💯 with everything they said in this video!! As an American, I feel so ashamed of how behind we're. My $107k Ford F150 lightning is already falling apart, and I see $20k Chinese EV has much better design, materials, and performance!!
I am glad you mentioned upfront the actual problem. The auto makers whine and cry because the management isn't making double-digit returns on their investment. They tout things like legacy pensions and rising health care costs as the main drivers of the price of their products. Meanwhile, the labor hasn't enjoyed the same wage increase for nearly 60 years. Something stinks everyone can smell it. Nothing is being done about it.
Usually, money goes to the top management, not even the shareholders. Workers are totally replaceable, they are not the company's assets, they are just costs.

As a Chinese, I assure you, while the Western media constantly seeks opportunities to smear China politically, fabricating Xinjiang concentration camps , Tibet issues, and creating chaos in Hong Kong, the Chinese government just quietly makes plans, improves plans, implements plans, gets feedback, revises plans, and continues to implement plans. All successes are not achieved overnight. They require a comprehensive plan, bold attempts, careful verification, and decades of consistent implementation. China's current success in the electric vehicle field comes from government planning in the 1990s. China has been devoted to research in this field for 30 years.

The Western companies have long appreciated the manufacturing prowess of China. Those outsourced factories have been able to produce goods at the lowest cost, thereby maximizing profits for the Western brands. This has started to shift as Chinese companies have begun to climb up the value chain. They are now competing in high-profit sectors like design, branding, sales, and distribution. When you visit China and find out the true cost of goods manufacturing in China and the significant markup they have been applying when selling the same products made in those Chinese factories.
Thats right. And the shittiest part is that all the ridiculous mark up that went to those western companies, are then counted towards trade deficits against China. As Chinese I am furious about how we are portraited in the west, its just unfair.
Like the message gun? It costs less than 20 bucks out of factory. When it is sold in NA, the first time i saw in bestbuy, it was 500 dollars. After these many years, it is still priced around 100. When people says junk chinese product, do you know how much you REALLY paid for the product. Chinese factories complains that Amercian are cheap, they only want to buy cheap products, so we can only make cheap ones. Good quality products, we sell in China because US distributor would never import them. Just think about how much premium they put on even cheap products. Of course good qaulity things will be too expensive.

True words typed. As I read that I was afraid I was gonna hear a blame game of political parties and who is or was president. In america, we have gone off the deep end so far in the culture of "cool" and "being dumb is cool" that we can't turn back. Idolizing the negative aspects of certain types of people instead of cherry picking the positive aspects. For example, in America, we idolize a hillbilly bearded fool for his religious words of wisdom and superstition instead of observing and highlighting his brilliance at agriculture or outdoor survival. When observing this hillbilly, we could point out why the hillbilly is in the situation he is in (as far as negative stuff) and then point out how he has made the best of his situation and innovated with his limited resources and education. But no.....the hillbilly becomes some sort of celebrity and people want the same overalls, with rips in jt, the same beard, the accent and dental appearance as if it's a "style" and aspiration. I remember as a kid of the 1980s...movies like "revenge of the nerds" really made a smart kid feel inferior. In school, girls didn't like the smart kid. She liked the bully, the bad boy, or the football star. We have set up this idea that ignorance is something to be glamorized. Kardashians? Kid Rock? Honey BooBoo. Wrestling? Here is the thing...there are different types of people in society. Some people can watch a Superman movie and realize you can't jump off a building and fly in real life. But there are some who don't know the reality and will try it. It seems that nowadays we have a large percentage of people who can't distinguish betwee n reality and make believe. So we end up having to protect everyone. In China (I assume), they put a high effort in to making kids be smart. Now...I'm sure it can be a little abusive too. I have visions of parents scolding kids, scaring them in to making straight a's, making them work long hours in sweat shops. Or, slapping them with rulers in the wrist if they don't play violin perfectly. But nonetheless, what we are seeing in this video is a lot of engineering and math and science coming to fruition in a society of motivated workers. In the USA? It's hit and miss. Long hours by farmers, but the son is in the basement playing video games and not learning from that dad.
4:09 wow... that hurts... felt really bad for American tax payers who are subsidizing the EV transition but ending up fatten up share holders/exacutives and also paying more for fat old gas guzzlers.

Just watching this video makes it seem like China today is what North America was in the 50's and 60's. Before a bunch of people in suits and a corporate office needed to justify their jobs sending occasional emails, holding meeting about topics they don't understand, and going on "work trips"

it's ignorant when you thought the cheapness comes from the forced labor, the core reason of their price becoz China has complete supply chain in EV industry, such as BYD, from tyres to battery, either they own a supplier or they are shareholders of the supply chain.
You can't compare Chinese prices with western prices, an VW ID.3 costs in China €18K and in Europe it is €35K, Building, logistics and sales are just a lot cheaper. As soon as you start shipping or building in a western country it becomes a lot more expensive.
@@justinlynch6691 Costs are still more expensive in the west, just think about the ground prices for the factory, or all the materials to build the factory but even electricity. You can replace "cheap" labour with automation but you have to hire more expensive engineers to maintain the robotics in the factory. Automation will help a bit but will not make the price difference go away.
@@buddy1155 I think that's a lot of speculation. Good automation doesn't need engineers to run it, just design it. It needs calibration, but those are tech jobs, and honestly the UAW wages would rival even some engineers salaries. There is no cheap labour in building cars. UAW has been milking us dry. I'd speculate they have blocked automation everywhere they've been able. I know businesses who maintain their own general contracting and building divisions even though that has nothing to do with their core business. The construction industry is so far out to lunch that it's more cost effective to do it that way. It was actually cheaper for them to buy a crane than rent. I agree, that industry needs a makeover as well. You may be right, but with the cost of labour I'm not so sure. I'd like to see the breakdown of factory overhead, electricity, labour, raw material, etc of the build cost
@@justinlynch6691 I don't disagree that automation is the way to go. Don't know about labour unions in the US but in Europe they are a very good thing.I never heard them fight against automation. I tell people that all of the time. Start traveling within your own country first and you’ll find out real quick where your assumptions or things you’ve seen, read or heard may not be all what you believe.
In America we have been convinced to believe that government run projects always fail or are too expensive but here we see not only cheaper good quality products produced with some government direction and subsidies while on the other hand in North America our government cares more about shareholder profits than good affordable products for consumers.
it's plan, and competition. When our chinese government decided to introduce Tesla to our market to have more competition, and develop electricity supply chain in 2010, it's plan for next 20 years.

It is just absurd to think the the west would ever compete with China. They produce more engineers. They have a very integrated factory-production system. The gap will only wilden in term of innovation and technology. China has invested heavily in its youth education system. They have more competent politicians. They manage 3 time the west population in a more cohesive and progressive manners with less crime than the whole west. I graduated from an engineering university in the US and most of the students in my school were chinese or of chinese descent. The only thing the west have is the edge of what it had gained in the past but it will fade away really fast. I kind of enjoy western arrogance and sour attitude as it knows competition is futile and defeat is certain. It is just a matter of time.

This video kinda made my decision, I am going to China to see what is going on there, I want to be an industrialist, not a finance quant like half of my classmates.
Come on, man, China welcomes hard work to get rich. In fact, the competition between China and the United States is a microcosm of the competition between engineers and unearned financial practitioners in the world.
I have lived in China for 17 years, I am originally from Germany, but also lived in the USA for 20 plus years. So I have a pretty broad spectrum of experience in the 3 major technological areas of the world. China has surpassed Europe and the USA in many technological aspects. It ranges from EV's, Infrastructure such as high speed trains and everyday electronics. I suspect the USA and Europe have lost the race a few years ago and the gap will increase. Every sanction on any technology will only spur china to accelerate faster by focusing on that technology.
US and EU can not accept Chinese are smart in Manufacturing and Exports too. Global market needs china for sustainable development of countries, Not by providing IMF WB loans to countries.

Poor American "we are better attitude". Why not just admit that US cannot march-up to the Chnnese competition. If you don't want Chinese cars why you spending so much time in them. Your forcefully trying to look for faults but you cannot find any.
This technology is next level. If they release in western markets for that price all companies may shut their business . I wonder that’s the reason they increased car taxed from china
All NA manufacturers have been given AMPLE opportunity to make cheap cars but they will ALWAYS put profits before people. Until we can force companies to take losses (in this case simply make not as much profit) this will not stop here. How much money have we given them? and they act like 40 grand is super cheap. But then the government is in a tough spot because those companies can just up and take the factories overseas or down south if they're taxed for regulated too much; it happens all the time here in Canada where companies leave the market due to high operational costs, But they're only high in the sense that they can't make more and more billions every year.
Giving the government that much power is a terrible idea. Customers need to be smarter, if r3t@rds just said no thanks to overpriced junk as much as possible and didn’t vote for the leftist environment worshipers (aka tyrants that just want control), we’d have more affordable vehicles.
You do realize it's not just cheap Chinese labor but they cut corners in the build quality you can't see like cheap metal quality in the frames. Cheap bearings in the electric motors. The blade batteries are junk. Do a simple search and look at the videos coming out of china and the horrible quality. Airbags that dont deploy. These clowns didn't do any real research they are basically saying look they look at the interior and cheap prices. 😂
We have to outlaw extreme wealth. Tax everything over $1b at 110% with jail time for a second violation and break up "the stock market" into 1000s of new companies and millions of new jobs. Create new laws with salary caps and severe penalties.
Costs rise not because of profits. Costs rise because YOU not only want to have decent pay, but YOU also want so much safety there is not even a chance of YOU getting hurt. And YOU demand clear air because air pollution is unpleasant and makes YOU sick. YOU demand proper waste management instead of just dumping it in nature. And then YOU complain about things being expensive. Well, newsflash! All those western standards cost a crapload of money and that makes products expensive as hell. And since china is way less strict things are cheap there. And then you start complaining that companies stop producing in the west because it’s to expensive. Guess what, you HAVE TO CHOOSE between all of the above or cheap. You can’t have both. The “YOU” can also be replaced by “I” if that makes you feel better. However I don’t complain about the prices because I am absolutely sure I want all those wonderful western standards and I realise i have to pay for those western standards.

Here is the reason:
5 yrs ago:
- Engineer: Hey! Why don't we use Chinese chips on our product? It is better!
- Leader: If it goes wrong, who can handle it? You?
Now:
- Engineer: Hey! Why don't we use foreign chips on our product? It is better!
- Leader: If it banned by the US, who can handle it? You?
So,China has become the world's largest producer of semiconductor circuits in this insane 5 yrs. Its chip export value even exceeds that of electric vehicles.
One of the govt official US govt said the bans and sanctions were not to punish China but to protect the US but how does banning Huawei's cell phone protect the US? The US cell phone industry consists only of Motorola and they've been bought out. All cell phones now are produced overseas.

The Western companies have long appreciated the manufacturing prowess of China. When you visit China and find out the true cost of goods manufacturing in China and the significant markup they have been applying when selling the same products made in those Chinese factories.

China has dream over capacity.. amazing.. world will thank to China for all affordable technologies
We Africans love Chinese products. China is ahead in so many things and the west knows and doesn't want to talk about Chinese advancement. But I'm happy for the Chinese people. Their hard work and their government support has made them stand out. Amerika and her allies are thrilled
Just watching this video makes it seem like China today is what North America was in the 50's and 60's. Before a bunch of people in suits and a corporate office needed to justify their jobs sending occasional emails, holding meeting about topics they don't understand, and going on "work trips"

Companies like NIO are making battery swapping EVs in addition to changing. How cool of an innovation is to make a car that swaps its battery in 3 minutes whilst the driver gets a coffee!🤯
our government and education system is infatuated with foolish social issues . our kids come out of school absolute idiots. getting anything done in Canada is nightmare, slow, and infuriating. we should be angry as a hornet at our governments
it's ignorant when you thought the cheapness comes from the forced labor, the core reason of their price becoz China has complete supply chain in EV industry, such as BYD, from tyres to battery, either they own a supplier or they are shareholders of the supply chain.
现代汽车工业几乎脱离了劳动密集型产业,生产线上都是自动化的,工人已经变得很少了
You can't compare Chinese prices with western prices, an VW ID.3 costs in China €18K and in Europe it is €35K, Building, logistics and sales are just a lot cheaper.
As soon as you start shipping or building in a western country it becomes a lot more expensive.
U could ship an id.3 from china to Europe for a F'n lot less than €17K, it's all tarrifs and politics
I think automation changes this. Then it just becomes cost of electricity and government grabbing their share
The labour unions in Europe are fighting very hard to keep manufacturing for Europe in Europe. And that is the way it should be.

It's all good. We the Chinese feel the same about y'all.
In America we have been convinced to believe that government run projects always fail or are too expensive but here we see not only cheaper good quality products produced with some government direction and subsidies while on the other hand in North America our government cares more about shareholder profits than good affordable products for consumers.

The same tribe that is destroying the west is ruling over your people. They will destroy you as well when it becomes convenient.
I study engineering in the EU but I want to do 1 year exchange either in Germany, Asia (China/Japan), or North America (McGill or Berkeley).
This video kinda made my decision, I am going to China to see what is going on there, I want to be an industrialist, not a finance quant like half of my classmates.
Good luck to you buddy.
Come on, man, China welcomes hard work to get rich. In fact, the competition between China and the United States is a microcosm of the competition between engineers and unearned financial practitioners in the world.
I've been really enjoying your insights and perspectives! I love the curiosity and willingness to learn.
100% correct, the race has already been lost.
US and EU can not accept Chinese are smart in Manufacturing and Exports too. Global market needs china for sustainable development of countries, Not by providing IMF WB loans to countries.
The interior design of that van is so luxurious!
It's all down to the greed of the people at the top. They could care less about our countries, our people, or the world. It's just a game to them. Who can pocket the most money and to hell with everyone and everything else. Protectionism is bullshit and it's dragging us down. If the executives won't accept a reasonable compensation package and put the money back into the company and the people then we need to let them fail.

You can't get gouged if there's proper and legal competition.
We instead have governments making the rules and picking winners.
The new generation of Chinese people with wisdom and hard work amazes the world
Very true, look at the young athletes.
