I'm looking forward to purchasing and playing this game! Thanks for the video preview! It looks like it will be available from Renegade Studios on 10/24/18. So at least I won't have to wait long. I know that my friends and family will enjoy playing this and it looks like it would be easy to setup and teach others how to play at some of my regional gaming events. Also, I wonder if there is a rule/penalty about trying to "Spell Smash" with a made-up word. I'm thinking something similar to challenging someone's word in Scrabble.

We’d been looking to pick up a word game, and picked this one up at Gen Con and have played several times since. It’s quickly become one of our favorite games, however I do think it works best with less people due to analysis paralysis.
I also get what you mean when you say this is a niche game, however throughly appreciate the differentiation. Overall, another wonderful game from Renegade!
I think it'll have a wider appeal than people realize. I know a lot of the guys in my gaming group also play Words with Friends and Paperback was appreciated by my group.

I loved the Idea, the theme and the look of the game! I'd like if this game got published in my country, especially in my native tongue. Nevertheless, I'm still thinking about importing it.
I love the unique mash up of mechanics and theme. There are tons of lore out there where wizards and witches tie complex magical spells to simple words. It's perfect. Zantana has to say everything backwards! I can't wait to play this
It appeals to me! I don't know why it does, but it's interesting. I think i can play it a lot.
I like this game, but I’m having a hard time getting it to the table. I tell people what it’s about “you spell words to kill monsters” and they are not into it. So I definitely agree with Tom about it appealing to a narrow audience. It will certainly alienate those who are not good spellers or have learning disabilities.
I also don’t like how short the game is. I want to make words and kill monsters! But you are only making one word per round, and that’s only 7 words per game! I’d like it more if you tried to reach a certain score to win, or if your goal is to kill a certain number of monsters for a higher score.
I think it can easily be house ruled to continue for longer - "first person to reach x monster trophies" or "let's play until we kill them all and then see who got the most" etc. =)
This reminds me a lot of playing Letter Quest: Grimm's Journey on my phone and PlayStation. I highly recommend playing it.
I know a few people including me that would love to play this game. I will be picking this up in the future, thanks Tom!
Agreed, thought of Letter Quest immediately. I don't get the "who's this game for?!" comment, many hobby board games are still niche.

Great review Tom, but when you were giving the game your "seal of approval" you should totally have spelled out Approved with the cards.. Missed opportunity here
Who is the game for?! Me! And some other rad folks in the comments. I think most word games I've purchased recently are still niche: Paper/Hardback, Word Domination, Letter Tycoon, Wordsy, Snippets, etc. Dungeon crawls are pretty dang standard, too. Most of them look too serious or convoluted to me, so getting a good looking dungeon crawler game that's a word game to me looks like TREASURE at he HEART... of the dungeon.
I was expecting a Game Night in a Can, but this is anything but GNIAC. Spell Smashers gets two thumbs up from me after watching this video. A Dungeon Word Crawl that's no where near the arguments that can ensue from Scrabble? Count me in.
