Everyone who worked there sounded like this, the Irish and the Italians. Since going to university and working out in central/western MA, I lost some of the accent. Sometimes I feel like I've been acting this whole time and speaking the way people expect me to out here to blend in. It's always been there, though.

i highly recommend his earliest movies like the very dark/grim "Basketball Diaries" to see a real young. highschool aged Leo. Even earlier then that, he plays an impeccable role alongside Johnny Depp in "What's Eating Gilbert Grape". Leo looks about 14-15 and plays a severely mentally challenged child with a personality of like an 8 year old.. it's really impressive.. (I'm not positive if it's Down Syndrome only bc he doesn't have any form of the usual physical traits associated with DS.. but he kills the role despite how highly difficult type of acting needed for any age, esp a teen). Leo was born to be an Actor.

Great reaction! You guys were really into it. I love this movie, I'm so glad you did it. Vera Farmiga is the actress you recognized from The Conjuring. She's in another movie that came out the same year as "The Departed" called "Running Scared" with Paul Walker. It's another good one that you guys should check out. I look forward to whatever is next!
Martin Scorsese is alongside Clint Eastwood my favourite movie director of all time. 💯 I really fear for the future of Hollywood´s continued quality, when these American treasures aren´t alive anymore.😑
They’re already starting to decline in quality. I think they are using a popcorn method in trying to mass produce these shows and movies and still think that people always want to see big , poorly written movies. But I do feel like movies like Pearl and X are examples of standout movies with great performances. Hollywood is fighting the audience and still thinks that they can fully direct our attention to where they want it.
It's hard to catch it on the first viewing, but in a number of the scenes in which a character is about to die, the letter "X" appears somewhere in the background. When Captain Queenan (Martin Sheen) is plunging to his death from the building, there are X's on the windows of the building as he's falling. When Matt Damon's character finally kills Costello (Jack Nicholson), there's a big X on some building structure behind him (Matt Damon). At the end, when Matt Damon comes out of the elevator with grocery bags in his arms, there's a big X taped to the floor of the hallway.
So a fun Easter egg, every time, right before a main character gets killed off, they pass next to an X. The most obvious times were a next in the elevator with Leo, and Damon walks down a hallway of Xs.
Been wanting you to see this since you started movie reactions. My favorite Martin Scorsese film. The Frank mob boss is based on real life Boston mobster, Whitey Bulger, who was a FBI informant and protected by dirty Feds, State, and locals cops for 19 years, while he murdered, stole, gambled and did all kinds of criminal behavior. He finally got ratted out and was charged with 19 murders. Happy New Year!
YES!!! Its not unheard of for high ranking crime bosses to also be CI's for the feds or to collude with them. In fact, any criminal willing to give a steady supply of info on other criminals can do it and gain a certain amount of leniency or passivity from the law enforcement. A personal example is, I knew a guy that was with two friends and they were pulled over in traffic stop. The driver should have faced a dui charge and another a gun posession. But the third guy got out and went back to the police cruiser to have a conversation with the officers and they were let go. They had no idea what happened but a year later the guy died for health reasons and it came out that he was an informant. Not snitching on his friends, but snitching all the same
Not sure if you caught this but the baby is insinuated to be Costigan's kid and not Matt Damon's character. Earlier she makes a comment about Matt Damon having trouble in bed, she then later sleeps with Leo's character and after she finds out about the tapes she says "I thought I was the liar" likely referring to the baby.
Ahhh another great reaction from you two! I’m from Boston, Mattapan to be exact! That line with Leonardo and Anthony in the beginning always tickles me since I’m Black and experienced some crazy racism growing up in the 90s and 2000s especially. That’s what the slight was about, “Already f*cked” lol. But I do love my city otherwise and still here. Happy New Years to you guys ❤❤

@@TheCrazyCanuck420 The original is called "Internal Affairs". Don't be put off if you have to read subtitles. It is a genuinely remarkable film. Hence Martin Scorsese's love for a American... interpretation?
In all honesty I prefer the original , I found it to be superior to the Hollywood remake, perhaps, because having seen the original years earlier and therefore knowing the story , I found the remake lacking in the tension featured in the original. Not dissing the Hollywood version would just encourage other to seek out "Infernal Affairs" . p.s. there are also some sequels to the Hong Kong original which are worth viewing.
The woman who played the therapist and was in the Conjuring was also in a move with George Clooney called "Up In The Air" which is a pretty good film. Had never seen this one before. Thanks for sharing.

Costello is very loosely based on Whitey Bulger. Bulger was a Boston Irish Mafia boss and he worked insanely closely with FBI agent John Connolly. Connolly grew up in the same Irish Projects that Bulger operated in. Bulger gave Connolly information on the Italian Mafia, essentially using the FBI to take out his competition. Connolly rose quickly up the ranks of the FBI because of the information given to him by Bulger. This mutually beneficial relationship also included protection from local law enforcement provided by Connolly. In the early 90s someone made a big enough stink about it all and the FBI came for Bulger. He managed to evade arrest until the early 2010s.
@tileux are you incapable of realizing something can have multiple sources of inspiration? Damn, people who do that drive me nuts. Yes, its based off the hong kong film Internal Affairs, but they changed up the script and characters and based Costello and his situation off of Whitey Bulger and his criminal empire. It's a mix, not just one source or the other.
Quite often, movies can be overshadowed by the cast and fall short of the mark. The Departed is most definitely not one of those. Fantastic cast, fantastic director, and the finished product is one of my all-time favorites 👏👏
People always talk about the Italian Mafia, but sometimes they forget about the Irish gangsters in Boston. Some of those Mic guys were every bit as brutal as the Italian brothas. That’s Vera Farmiga. She’s mostly a scream queen (Insidious series, I think). I think she is very underrated. My favorite role of hers was as Norma Bates in the Bates Motel (tv show that is a prequel to Psycho, and , incidentals stars Freddie Highmore as Norman Bates, another underrated actor). I think Vera is very beautiful as well, and happens to be the older sister of Taissa Farmiga, who is part of the Amazing American Horror Story reoccurring cast.
If you guys want to hear something wild, the actor who plays Fitzy (the guy with the super deep voice and an Irish accent) played the crazy guy Stephen in Braveheart.
It was the best of moles. It was the worst of moles. No rats. All moles. True traitors. Anthony Anderson plays the MOST IMPORTANT person in this flick. Not the biggest role, but the most important role in the entire movie.
Once again one of my favorite couples reacting to by far one of the greatest endings of all time they certainly don't make like this anymore specially in the late 2000s where everything started going downhill for the Entertainment industry for rare gem 💎 gangster masterpieces like these with all-star heavy hitters like Sopranos did before it ended that year learned from the best with all these actors from old to youngest all putting one of Marten Scorcees last rare gem all-star cast from rookies to highest position you can go in cop world and gangster directed and written by one of the greatest of all time
Glad you did this one, because the movie is incredible. I think the movie is trying to tell us the baby is Costigan's. Remember, Sullivan was having problems performing in the bedroom. That wrong address wasn't just the number..they were in Wash street but he told Billy to meet them on Washington street. That scene where Jack tells dude to not laugh, I'm pretty sure that was a character break by the actor, but Jack stayed in character and the scene came out great so they used it. One more thing, that woman from the Conjuring is also in a great movie with George Clooney and Anna Kendrick called Up In The Air. You should definitely check that out.
Matt Damons character suffers from ED, which is why the girlfriend asked if he wants to talk about it. Her being pregnant could possibly be Leonardo DiCaprio's character's kid.
@emilykeegan4345 The look of shame on his face when they're talking and she saying a lot of guys have the same problem. And she wanted to tell William something, which was most likely that she's pregnant, but he told her to wait and tell him in 2 weeks before he was killed.

I love Running Scared!
Martin Scorsese is alongside Clint Eastwood my favourite movie director of all time. 💯
I really fear for the future of Hollywood´s continued quality, when these American treasures aren´t alive anymore.😑
The therapist is Vera Farmiga and if I haven’t seen Up in the Air with George Clooney I highly recommend it
It's hard to catch it on the first viewing, but in a number of the scenes in which a character is about to die, the letter "X" appears somewhere in the background.
American Gangster (2007) with Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe should definitely be on your list of movies to watch if it isn't already. ✌🏽🎄❤
Everyone should give you a 👍 for doing this movie❤ CHEERS and Happy New Year 🎉!
There are so many plot twists in this one! I'm really glad you made it to this one. Oh, that was fun!
Gone Baby Gone, Mystic River, Killer Joe are all awesome movies you should check out.
Mystic River is so good but a f'd up movie.
So a fun Easter egg, every time, right before a main character gets killed off, they pass next to an X. The most obvious times were a next in the elevator with Leo, and Damon walks down a hallway of Xs.
Nice. It's a reference to the original Scarface.
Did not expect this reaction today. This is my all time favorite movie! Let's goooo!
This is in my top 10 no matter what my mood or what I've been watching.
Omg Asia spoke it out!! 37:16 "It's sideways calm on the elevator..." Wow.
Not snitching on his friends, but snitching all the same
I will never get over how good Scorsese films are.
One of the best films of all time in my opinion. The more you watch it, the more layers you unravel. Glad you guys enjoyed it!
This is my favorite Scorsese movie. I recall watching it on the come down of a few all night acid trips.
"inside man" great bank robber movie. DiCaprio underrated movie is "body of lies"
Loved seeing you both fall in love with this film. Man that ending too :)
I never thought Martin Scorsese would ever make another crime movie as good as Goodfellas... then The Departed came out!
You need to watch Infernal Affairs
Casino, The Irishman, and Wolf of Wall Street are all fantastic as well
And after that, he made an even better movie than Goodfellas.
“The Town”
Renner is masterful
There will never be another Jack Nicholson. He is the best! I absolutely love this movie.
"DONT LAUGH!!!! THIS AINT REALITY TV!!!!"
@@TheGillenium huh?? It isn’t 🤔
@@alishaharper5860 it’s a line in the movie lol
@@TheGillenium haha. Missed that line.
@@alishaharper5860 it’s one of the best, he pissed they didn’t dump the body in the marsh and his cronies laugh at him.
Scorsese has been making masterpieces for 5 decades and he's still doing it today. Another movie director you can think of that accomplished something like that?
I will say that in "the scene", everybody in the theater was silent for the first two but laughed at the third shot.
your reaction to the end was literally everybody watching the movie.
There ya go guys. Killer film. Love Alec Baldwin, Leo, Jack, and Matt Damon. Great cast and superb performance in this one. Lots of twists and turns with this one. One just has to really enjoy both your 100% authentic reactions. Thanks guys. Keep em coming. See ya on the next. Shoutout from the mountains of East Tennessee. Happy Holidays. Peace. Later.
The ending to this was non-stop, like BAM BAM BAM🔥🔥🔥
Such a good remake it's actually on par with the original. Not very often you can say that. ❤
Does the original have a different title? I went searching for it and could find it.
@@TheCrazyCanuck420 The original is called "Internal Affairs". Don't be put off if you have to read subtitles. It is a genuinely remarkable film. Hence Martin Scorsese's love for a American... interpretation?
The original is Infernal Affairs. Not "Internal" @@muninraven3327 The Departed, as a remake, is pretty good, but the original version is a banger.
WOW I totally forgot about up in the air.. haven't seen it since it came out. Such a good movie
Yeah, she was Oscar nominated for that one.
8:34 Asia she looks from familiar she's from conjuring universe it's Lorraine her real name is Vera Farmiga her sister plays in the Nun 1&2 as sister Irene real name Taissa Farmiga
Ya'll should check out Carlito's Way if you haven't already
Another great choice. What a Cast! What a Movie!👌👏
One of my favorites. Didn't realize you guys had never done it and so glad you have now... Asia during that elevator scene though!!! 🤣🤣
This is such a great movie!!! Ur reaction on the elevator scene & then the ending thinking WTF he’s gonna get away wit it but not quite. Major twists & turns
@@KrazzeeKaneresearch the producer and director comments.
Apply what you want, facts are facts
Costello's character is based on Whitey Bulger, who was a long-time crime boss in Massachusetts, and ended up being an FBI informant as well.
I thought he looked familiar
One of the all time great movies. Thanks for the reaction, and happy New Year!
Phenomenal movie. Always also seeing people's reaction to Leo lol. Shocking everytime. Great reaction y'all.
Ayyy thanks for doing this movie Asia and BJ . One of my favorites.
P.S.-Nice Raiders Gear y’all. Happy new year to yall and your family ❤
It was the best of moles. It was the worst of moles. No rats. All moles. True traitors. Anthony Anderson plays the MOST IMPORTANT person in this flick. Not the biggest role, but the most important role in the entire movie.
Vera Farmiga is a great actress, she's in The Conjuring, Running Scared, Godzilla, & Hawkeye. This movie is legendary
Once again one of my favorite couples reacting to by far one of the greatest endings of all time they certainly don't make like this anymore specially in the late 2000s where everything started going downhill for the Entertainment industry for rare gem 💎 gangster masterpieces like these with all-star heavy hitters like Sopranos did before it ended that year learned from the best with all these actors from old to youngest all putting one of Marten Scorcees last rare gem all-star cast from rookies to highest position you can go in cop world and gangster directed and written by one of the greatest of all time
If I remember rightly, that line "She fell funny" and the laugh was an adlib by Nicholson!
It did work as a silencer. you can use a couple soda cans fused together as a silencer too
One of my favs. Maybe check out "THE TOWN" sometime. Boston setting as well, great story & performances. 🍿🥂
"what was in the envelope?"... I'm so glad Marty told us without telling us.
37:45 yup ! Perfect reaction
The best Irish Mob movie ever made!
Matt Damons character suffers from ED, which is why the girlfriend asked if he wants to talk about it. Her being pregnant could possibly be Leonardo DiCaprio's character's kid.
What?? I never heard that about his character? How do you know this? Genuinely want to know
@emilykeegan4345 The look of shame on his face when they're talking and she saying a lot of guys have the same problem. And she wanted to tell William something, which was most likely that she's pregnant, but he told her to wait and tell him in 2 weeks before he was killed.
@@AbeViciousIt's pretty weird cause Sullivan was getting weird cause.of the job and threats to his life, seems like they had alot of sex. She slept with Billy once so him being the father is not realistic. Movie logic.
@@christofferjenzen78 so getting pregnant in a one night stand isn't possible?
@@AbeVicious I never said that. It's just comparing a one night stand to having sex alot often...the percentage is on Colins side. Even if his junk malfunctions sometimes,it doesn't always cause then she wouldn't be with him.
The neat thing about this film is that it was based off a Hong Kong film named internal affairs which starred Tony Leung and Andy Lau! This film more or less shares some of the same beats that internal affairs does such as with characters and plot! If you guys decide to watch a foreign film in the future this would be a good one to watch!
I was in a film club in high school and 2006 was the first year of the club. When the Oscars came around the next semester we did a big betting pool on what was going to win Best Picture. I was the only one to pick the Departed while everyone else picked either the Queen or Babel, and I absolutely relished my win.
2 litre soda bottles work surprisingly well as silencers for a few shots. To the point that having an adapter that threads onto a soda bottle and a firearm is treated as a suppressor by the ATF and requires a tax stamp to be legal.
KING OF NEW YORK PLEASE.... CLASSIC
What movie were you two watching? When she opened the envelope, the was a CD inside with a note that said "play me now"
The Baby is Leonardo's, and Walberg knew who the rat was because she passed the envelope on to him... tada!!!!
The baby is not Leo's for certain, that's movie logic. He fucked her once, I'm pretty sure Matt shot alot of loads in her, he started having problems performing when he got threatened and Job went to shit.
If you liked this movie and you liked Thief, then I would definitely recommend The Way Of The Gun as well as Blood Diamond.
Oooh oooh oooh the Departed. Great cast and killer soundtrack. Can’t wait to see your reaction at the end.
BODY OF LIES - probably the best movie with dicaprio on it... just amazing...
In terms of pure suspense, I would rate this movie in my top 10.
She is also from" Up In the Air" with George Clooney.
What a nice post Christmas gift, this reaction vid.
Keep the awesome vids comin! Cheers & happy new year!
Finally the best movie reactors on you tube have reacted to this monster of a film.
this movie is freaking incredible, THANK YOU
Such a great movie!!! The end scene was so satisfying I jumped out of my chair and yelled YES!!!!
Your reaction and shock to the elevator scene was delightful.
Love this movie so much. I'm scared to see your guys' reaction to this ending!!! Happy holidays Asia and BJ!
Great job keeping up. I loved it immediately, but I had to watch this movie like 3 times before I noticed every connection.
13:02 is the guy that played Stephen (the mad Irish guy that joins Wallace) in Braveheart.
i saw the title and skipped right to the elevator at the end :) great reactions !!
Another classic! Y’all are killin it
