You should probably get that checked at an Apple store, because that isn’t normal. Had this overheating issue with my iPhone 11 a few years ago. So far my iPhone 15 Plus hasn’t had any overheating issues
Get it checked out; probably at an actual Apple Store I had a launch iPhone 15 up until recently and just lived with the overheating because my case blocked it; turns out the phone had a bad logic board and replaced my device for free.

Absolutely 100% agree. I ran a ROM hacked Note FE (rebranded Note 7 body with smaller battery meant for the Asian markers) for YEARS and loved it. Bonus points for not weighing a ton like my S24U does.
In Vietnam, the iPhone 13 series also have a display issue, especially the "white screen issue" on the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max after updating the software due to the 120hz display on those models, that can be fixed by jumping wires I guess
I would place the blame on a different cause: rushed development. This insane idea that every freakin' year we need a new model won't leave you with more than... one year to release the latest tech, even if the idea was that you start developing like 3 years ahead of time, by the point it releases it's outdated. You can't really do much properly when rushing it. It's no wonder these things cost fortunes now when you see them inside, not just for lots of tech, but for lack of any opportunity to sensibly shave off costs that can be shaved off without compromising the quality, same as the issues that pop up.
I remember when I was little, I had an iPad (I believe a 2013 model- the 4) that suffered from a weird issue when it got old that would permanently disable the transparency blur in the UI. This was on its last supported version, iOS 10. To this day, I still don't know why this happened. If anyone knows why, I'd be glad to hear it.
I am a phone repair technician and can contribute a common issue we see so often coming into the shop. The iPhone 13 series (ESPECIALLY the Pro and Pro Max) is absolutely plagued with camera issues that require the camera to be replaced. We also work with a refurbisher and thus buy from trade-in/return auctions from providers like Verizon, T-Mobile, Cricket, Mint, etc, and the most common issue we see on the 13 series, again mostly the Pro and Pro Max, is cameras. Last week alone we counted over 40 13 Pro Max phones with camera issues. It is absolutely ridiculous.
6:31 wait so i’m not the only person with a broken microphone on my iphone 7? I couldn’t see anything about that issue online. In early January of this year randomly the microphone broke but the rest of the phone still works resulting in voice memos not recording, headphones can’t be plugged in, and videos containing no audio at all. I can still use the phone speaker tho. I was getting a new phone anyway so it doesn’t matter but the phone still works to this day.
Also I had an iPhone SE (1st gen) a long time ago and the charger failed. It doesn’t charge and the only way to turn it on is to replace it with a battery that already has some charge on it. I managed to get everything off of it when it only had 9% left. So for all the reading lol
Hugh, please next time make a review of some popular chinese brand. Not Welcome phones, but obviously like Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, Reno, Realme, POCO, etc. Maybe some teardown and comparison to western smartphone about its inside. It might be little politic about US vs China tech war but well, it's completely about quality between their smartphones.
Sorry Hugh, I have to say that I disagree with you on the implication that Apple is "good" about warranties. They are notorious for basically needing to be forced to issue a recall by countries or by user revolt. I think it was the G3 or G4 Powerbook that suffered a major rash of logic boards dying just days outside of the 1 year warranty and Apple wholesale refused to cover them. Also, the 1G iPod Nano screens cracking left and right and Apple staunchly refused to cover it til someone pointed out that they did nothing more than Steve did in the demo by pulling it out of their shirt pocket. Also, given their strong anti-repair stance, whatever little they do for warranties is at best a placating joke.
1-2 year warranties on expensive items such as iPhones are effectively outside the law in Australia. Sony fixed my 4 year old TV after initially saying "out of warranty". Also had toasters, phones, laptops, microwaves etc. fixed or replaced outside of the official warranty.
Absolutely agree with you. I've noticed Hugh tends to be an apple sheep. All macbooks from 2009 to 2013 had so many issues and apple denied any wrong doing. Louis Rossmann on youtube has so many videos on apples crap products
My friend got a brand new Galaxy A71 (wasn't at launch but close) from his workplace, which started randomly shutting off less than a month in. And he needed to connect it to his PC to "revive it", effectively factory resetting the phone each time. We went to our closest Samsung Store and they fixed it through the warranty program, it took like 2 weeks and they replaced the logic board. It still works flawlessly to this day after that.
Iphone 6 was the worst. Even to the point of Apple settling the class action lawsuit for "manual" slow downs with iOS updates. After repairing several iPhones over the years, the iPhone 6 was the most common one. I still have a box of about 25 of them.
The iPhone 7 audio issue did have a service program for it. I worked at an AASP at the time and processed a good amount of them. Then, one day, all documentation regarding it disappeared.
That was an unusual one, also worked for an AASP and remember the documentation just about vanished without a trace overnight. I think they were hoping we would forget about it and pretend it never existed.
HTC made quite a lot of phones, often for other brands like the T-Mobile mda, Vodafone VPA and O2 xda series smartphones with Windows Mobile in the late 2000s, they even made the Xperia X1 (first Xperia) for Sony-Ericsson. And also the HTC Dream aka G1. But I'd rather call the Nexus One the first Google Phone (also made by HTC), however the Nexus devices felt more like cooperations with manufacturers like Samsung (Nexus S, Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 10), Asus (Nexus 7), LG (Nexus 4, 5), Motorola (Nexus 6), Huawei (Nexus 6P). The Pixel devices feel more independent compared to the Nexus/Nexi(?) 😉 they even have their own SoC now.
Dude, cover LG phones. LG G3, G4, G5, V10, V20, V30, Flex, Flex 2, had THE SAME issiue over the years - bad SoC underfill which casued those phones to die after 1-2 years. And I am SURE that other LG phones had same issiue, because my fiends of colleges with other, cheaper LG phones had same dying phones!
I have a G4 that bootlooped after a year. I had it replaced and the issue never came back. I used it for 5 years after that. I should also mention that I played a lot on it before the issue and the phone became HOT all the time. After that I was cautious not to run heavy games or not for that long time
I got a Nokia G11 last year to serve as a backup phone for accessing my accounts, just in case I get locked out somewhere (which did happen later on). It has a major glitch causing rapid battery drain. When it starts draining, nothing can stop it other than a reboot. Plugging it into the charger slows it down so that you lose a percentage of battery every few hours, and it does that instead of charging.
I've been a pixel user since 2018, and my pixel 1 did not have any audio issues. I have heard many a horror story of the pixel 6 experiencing multiple types of failure.
It was day one units. People like me who bought them the first day we could were affected, google really just sent us all new phones. Both me and my dad were affected, I initially had the 32gb model, but they actually ended up upgrading me to the 128gb one, so I didn't have to wait which was nice of both google and Verizon.
dude the pixel 3 xl was horrid too. I had 3 of them. One of them was bricked, one of them often softlocked. It was issues with snapdragon security hardware.
I went through 3 identical iPhone 6S phones which all had some of the same and some different problems. The first one got a ton of dust under the screen (through the mute switch) within 3 weeks of getting it. The second had "unexplainable hardware failures" as Apple put it (it was actually the battery issue that later got a service program). The third also got dust under the screen, but I didn't bother replacing it. That phone then lasted 7 years of regular use and still works, albeit with a replaced battery and an excessive amount of dust under the screen.
Surprised you didn't bring up the Nexus 5X boot loop issue. I had no less than 5 Nexus 5X phones, and every single one of them eventually ran into the dreaded boot loop.
That model and quite a few lg models from that era had that issue. Shame since they were one of the only alternatives to Samsung as HTC was slowly losing our in the flagship scene
Good recent history piece but one you missed was with the Google Pixel 2 XL and many users reporting excessively blue tints in its OLED, particularly when at an angle, and concerns about burn-in. Though Google didn't really say anything was "wrong" per say, they bumped warranty coverage on those to 2 years everywhere else that 2 years wasn't already mandatory (like Europe).
on the topic of *reliable* devices, my ThinkPad T410 has survived falling down the stairs at school inside my backpack. one of the RAM sticks came loose, but no big deal.
Actually iPhone 13 Pro, 14 Pro has widespread problem that the screen will just turn green, rendering unusable, even 15 Pro also starts to get the same problem.
My brother actually used the repair program for the 6S battery. But weirdly enough, when he was coming back home from getting his 6S back from Apple (they sent it to a central Apple location to get fixed), his Crown Vic broke down on the highway. Luckily he was able to get a tow, but he had to get another car
4:57 i have an iphone 5 with that exact power button issue since almost a decade ago. no way that that was such a common issue. i dont live where the recall took place :(
Not even a mention about faulty storage chips in the iPhone 6 series. Tons of iPhone 6 and 6s phones randomly suffered corrupting of data, making it impossible to enter recovery mode or even unlock the phone. But the horrible battery life was luckily mentioned. While being 14 hours in the specs, it barely lasts for 6 hours.
iPhone 15 Pro - bottom left microphone fault resulting in being unable to record voice or the other person on the phone being unable to hear you. Despite having a load of microphones in the phone itself, only the bottom left microphone is used to record sound. Repaired under warranty.
Don’t know if this was common for others who had an iPhone X, but just 3 weeks into mine FaceID stopped working altogether. Took it to Apple and was told one of the IR sensors for scanning your face was defective. They swapped me over to a brand new phone in less than 2 minutes. No cost no paperwork. That’s been my only iPhone issue despite being on 4S, 6, 6S Plus, X, 11 Pro and 13 Pro. Since 2011.
The only phone failure I've had is my HMD built Nokia 8 having the charging port and headphone jack both fail within a month of each other, was a very poorly built device like many HMD built Nokia's that didn't do the name any justice, it's fascinating in hindsight how many issues the iPhone 4 had in particular however. Great video!
I’ve never used a repair program, but I had two iPhone 7s and an iPhone 7 Plus. One of the 7s had a defective audio codec and could not properly communicate with the earpiece and front microphone. The other 7 developed the “No Service” issue after it was dropped and was repeatedly having its cellular connectivity disabled over the course of a week. That was unfortunately before the repair program started, so I traded it in and upgraded to an XS. The 7 Plus, meanwhile, developed an issue where it could not use FaceTime due to a defect somewhere on the logic board (I think it was the audio codec, although like the first 7, it was different from the problem you mentioned).
4:40 this reminds me of the xbox 360 red ring of death days. the cpu got micro cracks in the solder balls and wrapping your xbox in a towel and leaving it on to overheat would fix it temporarily
its hard to grasp how hard it is to design such a small working device with so many features, which all have to work (together sometimes). The fact that it mostly works is already incredibly impressive.
Weirdly enough, the most durable device I ever had was a foldable, a first generation oppo find n. I used it for quite a long time and by the time I moved on to another device it had a few scratches on the front display and nothing more. I don't keep my phones in cases ever, and the folding display was in perfect condition.
I had a Motorola Droid Turbo 2 back in the day with a "shatterproof" screen. What they didn't tell you was that the screen ribbon cable was faulty on a lot of them and the display would get lines in it with normal use. Their screen warranty didn't apply to the display either and was never recalled.
I've worked at a repair shop that dealt with Google warranty repairs so I can name a couple pixel phones that had known issues that google ended up having extended warranty programs for. First is the Pixel 4XL. That phone had an issue with the battery connection that sometimes resulted in the connector melting the battery connector to the motherboard. The pixel 5a initially had issues with the display being very fragile and breaking even though the glass/digitizer layer above it was perfectly fine. Later on though the motherboards began to fail which required a replacement. Google eventually stopped supplying us with us with boards and had us refer the phone's owner back to them. Lastly the pixel 7 and 7 Pro's back camera lenses are prone to breaking easily which requires the whole back housing to be replaced.
2:50 yep, I still have that old MacBook model as a backup computer, still the best notebook apple made in the intel era. Funny enough I took advantage of that battery recall program as the preexisting battery passed like 1500 battery cycles.
Iphone 7 also had a SIM card issue, where it failed to detect the sim card. There was also a repair program for it. It was due to a faulty network chip.
The iPhone 7 I had along with other 7s of my friends and family had a problem where you could hear the rapid little clicks of the A10 chip when you put your ear to the phone. You could hear it the most in videos that were filmed on the phone, especially when the phone is in a case. My iPhone 7 (which I got used) served me well and had no issues, except for the clicking sound of the chip that bombards the sound in videos…hated that part…
Technically, the first Galaxy Fold was recalled as well. Not the models that were sold, but the ones given to TH-camrs and other testers before putting them on sale. A defined given out for testing basically means it’s the final product.
I was on my 3rd iPhone X screen in regards to that touch issue. Got mine around 2017, first one failed after about 2 years - Apple were really good about it actually. The touch screen had completely stopped working before I was going out one night, and by next morning it was working again. Even though I couldn't prove it on the day they still replaced the screen (which at the time was $850 AUD+). Then it happened again, 2 years later, to my friend who I gave the phone. And Apple upheld the warranty again - I was really pleased. But I know a lot of people who have the same issue with the touch screen on the X so it seems to be a bit endemic.
My Iphone 6 was a total nightmare. The first one just died after a year while charging it over night and the replacement phone had an expanded battery just after one year. That was my first and last ever apple product.
I've fixed at least a dozen ear speaker issues (can't hear calls) on the iPhone 15 Pro Max, which seems odd, but could be just a coincidence. Another common one is replacing one of the MEMS mics (on the dock connector assembly) on the 11 Pro Max & 13 Pro Max (the primary symptom being crackling and/or static on calls recieved from said device). With the first few, I replaced the entire dock assembly, but now I replace just the mic. It's a much faster repair, and (so far) it's always fixed the issue. I've done at least 20 of those, so a bit odd as well, especially since it's ALWAYS one of those two models (none had any obvious signs of liquid ingress). Other than those two issues, newer iPhones have been okay, aside from having to transfer ICs with display swaps (although I just got the serialization transfer board for my R200 that can supposedly transfer all three encrypted IDs instead of just the two that keeps True Tone but throws the 'original part' message, so no more IC swaps? Maybe? We'll see. I do my own refurb'ing, and only use OEM panels, so I am all for any solution that can lower the risk of losing a panel).
my iPhone SE third gen experienced severe overheating issues plus a battery that quickly went bad aside from that it also started experiencing a bad touch screen with the home button starting to fail thankfully despite me having dropped it and having told apple that they gave me a replacement model free of charge complete with free shipping one things for sure apple earned my respect and loyalty with that move
I’ve always found the 7 to be very reliable. It was my favorite device. The fact that developers are already ending app support for it even though it just lost official support a year ago baffles me as it is running iOS 16, a modern OS
Agreed. Unfortunately I had no choice but to update to an SE-3. For me, there was zero difference between the two phones, other than better battery life.
Definitely remember servicing a couple of the iPhone 8 no power / intermittent restart phones soon after its release while working for an AASP. I suspect the issue was down to the CPU soldering - at least on the couple of examples I saw, the phone would become more and more unstable the more it warmed up (shortening the interval between intermittent restarts until the phone just wouldn't boot at all), and removing the screen and applying a moderate clamping force directly to the A11 package would allow the phone to start up and run perfectly stable as long as the clamp was applied. Just a theory of course, but I successfully used that method to recover data from them (and making some customers very happy) before sending them in for repair. It seemed to only be on the earliest production units though, because once they'd been out for more than a few months and that initial few had come through, I never saw another affected unit again.
I have two friends who have an iPhone 12, in less than 9 months, the first one died while it was charging (with original cable and brick) and the second one in inserting a travel e-sim shredded the physical sim and now when you try to put an e-sim in it doesn't show the data symbol but the e-sim still works
5:58 didn't accepted at first then agreed in sometime at 2018-19 that yes the 6&6+ design were flawed because of the softer aluminium frame used yet they never accepted it and recalled it while that generation and it's minor upgrade the S models suffered bend gate
I bought a Unihertz Jelly 2 in January 2022, and 6 months later, the rear camera failed. I got in touch with Unihertz, and they sent me a replacement phone straight away. 👍🏻👍🏻
Hard disagree on the 5S being reliable. Almost every single one that went through my hands had the Tristar charging chip knackered by a less than ideal charger or computer, which led to extreme heat and battery draining within a few hours. My personal one was affected too - at first I thought it was the battery, but after swapping it, it dropped in health to 70% after just half a year.
I had a similar issue with Apple with my MacBook Pro when they did the recall on the keyboard issue. I asked them if I could have mine done which they said yes it’s for free, but when I asked them about the display issue they said and I quote: ‘If your MacBook Pro has more issues other than the keyboard the service won’t be for free and you’ll have to pay for the repairs including the keyboard issue.’ I soon refused the replacement program.
not one of those issues, but my iphone 5s got stuck in a bootloop. eventually it spitted me out in DFU mode, and when i tried to restore (via itunes on both pc and mac) it gave an error 9 or -9... something like that. exiting dfu kept going to the bootloop. through my research i've chalked it up to bad nand.
The 7 was my first iPhone, had the service issue. Since then i’ve had the 8, 12P, 14PM, and the 15PM. Haven’t had any other issues since, hoping i don’t in the long run
I've had a Z flip 3 as my previous phone, and now use a Z Flip 5. My old Flip 3 never let me down in the near 2 years I had it. In fact, I sold it to my friend for pretty cheap knowing he would probably break it super quick (he's a mechanic that isn't so nice to his smart phones). So far though, couple scratches and nicks on the screen, but it's still working perfectly fine. It's not quite 3 years old yet
My previous phone was a Samsung Galaxy J7 (2017 version). The AMOLED screens were very fragile. I've gone through, I think, 5 replacement screens (original Samsung ones), and every single one of them broke from a drop that any of my other phones have survived just fine. Funny thing is, the screen glass was in perfect condition after the drop. It was only the OLED screen under it that was breaking. Every single one broke within a few months of the repair or the original purchase, and the longest I've gone without it breaking was 15 months. The cost for all the replacement screens probably adds up to 2x or 3x the cost of the phone.
I have an issue from a Samsung Galaxy J4+ where, after a year, the Wi-Fi connection had problems like when you move away from the Wi-Fi router for just one meter, the signal is only one bar.
Modern google pixel phones have issues where they can't call 911 (I assume the issue exists outside the USA without their respective emergency numbers too)
I had a bent iphone 7 plus. Still worked fine, but the water resistance was compromised as a result. Found that out when i took it swimming and it stopped working til i put it in rice. 🤦♂️
I have been affected by Crescentgate on my iPhone 6, Staingate on my MacBook Pro 2015 and the audio crackling issues on AirPods Pro. I only got the AirPods repaired (or rather replaced).
Very informative video. I still to this day have a functioning iPhone 7 Plus, and it’s been nothing but the most solid phone out of the ones I had - of course, only after I got its microphone replaced under warranty, because it did not function properly - it wasn’t stuck in a loop though. I also have a nonfunctioning iPhone 4, which sadly no one is willing to repair, because according to them it just doesn’t make sense to do so.
The worst phone I owned was the iPhone 7. I had one with a “No Service” problem. Got it replaced, and it ended up with the same problem. My replacement one did also have the audio issue as well.
And speaking of samsung, literally every samsung s series device after the s9 were prone to getting green lines across the display. The s20 series was extremely prone to this isuue, but it has also happened to my friends' s21 ultra and s10+ and recently, my s22
I had the 3GS battery expand on me during a flight. As in, the phone was in the bag, but by the end when I took it out, it had exploded. It was a throwaway phone, so I didn't really do much about it.
do you have some info on the galaxy s7 stopping powering on? Mine actually died about a month ago and I couldnt find any information on it, I wasn't aware of it being a particularly dodgy model until now I had powered it on about 3 times in the months leading up to it, nothing seemed wrong and JUST as i was planning to donate it to a charity it died that week
My 12 Pro Max had sound issues for a while that ended up just disappearing, I had no idea there was a recall for it either, could still prove handy if the recall program is still up I've also had a 1st gen iPod nano in the past with the battery issue
Common failures on devices years later isn’t a design defect but a design, component, or production weakness. There’s a huge difference. Eventually, everything with a solder joint will fail. The laws of thermal expansion require it.
Hugh Jeffrey Samsung Phones are forgetting its Password, pattern lock. The phone will say it’s wrong password even if you put tour correct password. I work at Phone Shop this happened to 3 customers with same issues. 2 A54 and 1 S20 FE. I checked online many have same issues 😮
iPhone 13 Pro - Dot projector lens glue is weak and the lens may have a bit of movement which causes Face ID issues. I had an issue that Face ID worked intermittently. When not working I had to knock the phone a few times and was working again. Luckily my phone was still in warranty and Apple replaced the Front faceing camera module which includes the Face ID as well.
I had a flip 3 that I traded in for a 23S ultra due to the cracking starting at the fold. My screen hadn't gone out yet but I wasn't waiting around for that to happen.

In Vietnam, the iPhone 13 series also have a display issue, especially the "white screen issue" on the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max after updating the software due to the 120hz display on those models, that can be fixed by jumping wires I guess
When I was a kid I was given a 3G or 3GS that did a similar thing due to being dropped in water.
Ended up meeting my golden screwdriver.
That's the problem with current gadgets. The more tech and features you cram, the greater the chance that something or some part will fail.
@angleisthebest that's not what the specs sheets say
I remember when I was little, I had an iPad (I believe a 2013 model- the 4) that suffered from a weird issue when it got old that would permanently disable the transparency blur in the UI. This was on its last supported version, iOS 10. To this day, I still don't know why this happened. If anyone knows why, I'd be glad to hear it.
Apple disabled it on older devices. You might be able to fix it in accessibility or by a jailbreak.
Also also I still have a perfectly working iphone 4. So even if most iphones fail or don’t fail it’s really unpredictable
I’ve never had a major issue with any iPhone I’ve bought. I’ve personally had the best service experience with Apple devices.
Thats great, and that is the experience that 99% of people have, the problem is for the small number of people that do have an issue@@gliderman9302
Absolutely agree with you. I've noticed Hugh tends to be an apple sheep. All macbooks from 2009 to 2013 had so many issues and apple denied any wrong doing. Louis Rossmann on youtube has so many videos on apples crap products
@@josedasilva4433why does he tend to be an apple sheep?
My friend got a brand new Galaxy A71 (wasn't at launch but close) from his workplace, which started randomly shutting off less than a month in. And he needed to connect it to his PC to "revive it", effectively factory resetting the phone each time.
We went to our closest Samsung Store and they fixed it through the warranty program, it took like 2 weeks and they replaced the logic board. It still works flawlessly to this day after that.
Love your content Hugh!
As Dave Jones would say: No worries mate, never had an issue with my Shoe Phone!
I thought Google's first phone release was the flippy G1 with a physical keyboard.
HTC made that phone. The G1 or known as the HTC Dream.
I think that google devices are still made in htc. They bought htc phone department if I am not mistaken@@kuchenblechmafiagmbh1381
@@kuchenblechmafiagmbh1381 the 1st gen pixel was made by HTC as well lmao
@@TheJunky228 yea but they owned htc when they made it
Dude, cover LG phones.
Nexus 5X too, manufactured by LG.
@angleisthebest did you disable the big cores so you're only running on the littles? I heard that was the only bandaid for the issue
I have a G4 that bootlooped after a year. I had it replaced and the issue never came back. I used it for 5 years after that. I should also mention that I played a lot on it before the issue and the phone became HOT all the time. After that I was cautious not to run heavy games or not for that long time
Never had issues with V30 and it was 4 years old when I sold it
I got a Nokia G11 last year to serve as a backup phone for accessing my accounts, just in case I get locked out somewhere (which did happen later on).
Dust under the screen... WTF
Not to forget the nexus 6p boot loop as well!! I was lucky enough to have it happen to me after I had already got a new phone
1:34 god, that note was beautiful af.
on the topic of *reliable* devices, my ThinkPad T410 has survived falling down the stairs at school inside my backpack. one of the RAM sticks came loose, but no big deal.
My T-410 survived Cerebral Palsy wheelchair life with no problem, bounced a few times.
Actually iPhone 13 Pro, 14 Pro has widespread problem that the screen will just turn green, rendering unusable, even 15 Pro also starts to get the same problem.
Not to mention the huge overheating issue from the 15.
Never had a problem with mine 🤷♂️
@@SugnessBawit was a software issue that got eventually fixed with a software update... it was weird and only the early iPhome 15 pros had it
I've remember LG phones had quite an issue with their phone's bootlooping in the past, there's also lawsuit because of that.
3:56 yes! Both my mom and dad had iPhone 4’s with my dad giving me his to use as an mp3 player
Thanks to the S6 and the Note 7 we had the note 8, till this day an amazing phone
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the Pixel 5a motherboard issue causing a permanent black screen or no power at all.
its hard to grasp how hard it is to design such a small working device with so many features, which all have to work (together sometimes). The fact that it mostly works is already incredibly impressive.
Hey Hugh, what is your main machine? I remember you selling off some parts from your 2010 mac pro and im wondering what you replaced it with
Weirdly enough, the most durable device I ever had was a foldable, a first generation oppo find n. I used it for quite a long time and by the time I moved on to another device it had a few scratches on the front display and nothing more. I don't keep my phones in cases ever, and the folding display was in perfect condition.
My Xiaomi phones have also been by far the best I've had, no issues at all as they're far cheaper than a equivalent Samsung etc
I had a Motorola Droid Turbo 2 back in the day with a "shatterproof" screen. What they didn't tell you was that the screen ribbon cable was faulty on a lot of them and the display would get lines in it with normal use. Their screen warranty didn't apply to the display either and was never recalled.
My moms iPhone said there was a headphone plugged in but there was nothing in the aux port
Actually, the PIxel 1 also is prone to full board failure out of nowhere it also happened to me, Goolge didnt do anything about it.
It’s one of the best, the best was the mid-2012 unibody.
Iphone 7 also had a SIM card issue, where it failed to detect the sim card. There was also a repair program for it. It was due to a faulty network chip.
iPhone 13 and 14 have suffered Green/White screen issue and the issue is widespread, i am surprised that you don't know about this.
Because it was a software issue.
@@LordCoeCoe no it wasn't, the issue occurred because of software updates but the display had to be changed to fix the issue.
That was the longest advert for an app ever. Well done …
I think You didn't know about the Green screen issue on Iphone 13 and 14 series
This is why I neverrrr buy the newest tech, going 1 or 2 generations before guarantees others pay premium prices and suffer from factory problems
But I know a lot of people who have the same issue with the touch screen on the X so it seems to be a bit endemic.
imagine it was because of the charger 💀
The fact that developers are already ending app support for it even though it just lost official support a year ago baffles me as it is running iOS 16, a modern OS
iPhone 7 runs iOS 15
Agreed. Unfortunately I had no choice but to update to an SE-3. For me, there was zero difference between the two phones, other than better battery life.
Another issue that could have almost been included was
Iphone 5s - Touch ID, Error 53
I had a 7 with the microphone issue a little while ago. I didnt realise it was recalled and i just threw it away 🙁
I like this new direction, solid video Hugh
5:58 didn't accepted at first then agreed in sometime at 2018-19 that yes the 6&6+ design were flawed because of the softer aluminium frame used
yet they never accepted it and recalled it while that generation and it's minor upgrade the S models suffered bend gate
I have been through 3 galaxy s10s and 1 s20, 1 month new, it stopped reading the simcard and charger port stopped working. fml
why didn't you mention the issue for the 13 pro,pro max having a permanent with, yelloe, green screen?
Only problem I’ve had is the sound issue that Hugh described with my iPhone 4 and it was replaced under warranty.
I bought a Unihertz Jelly 2 in January 2022, and 6 months later, the rear camera failed. I got in touch with Unihertz, and they sent me a replacement phone straight away. 👍🏻👍🏻
No mention of the Pixel 2 XL? that phone was littered with defects
I got a note 20 that doesn't connect to a the cell towers unless it's right next to it or is connected to WiFi and that seems to be somewhat common
maybe you forgot to connect the antenna wires
@realcartoongirl I've never pulled it apart so I doubt that's the issue it's always been the same
My previous phone was a Samsung Galaxy J7 (2017 version).
Didn’t the iPhone 7 also have Nand issues? I had one that eventually died because of a bad nand
The iPhone 7 and iPad with the A10 chip also have a boot loop issue and error 4013 when restoring.
Due to bad solder under the actual SoC
Hi Hugh. I see you have updated the touch test with a line to follow your finger as well as the blocks. That's a nice addition to test the screen.
And speaking of samsung, literally every samsung s series device after the s9 were prone to getting green lines across the display. The s20 series was extremely prone to this isuue, but it has also happened to my friends' s21 ultra and s10+ and recently, my s22
can you do another video like this but covering the best/highest performing phones
I had the 3GS battery expand on me during a flight. As in, the phone was in the bag, but by the end when I took it out, it had exploded. It was a throwaway phone, so I didn't really do much about it.
do you have some info on the galaxy s7 stopping powering on? Mine actually died about a month ago and I couldnt find any information on it, I wasn't aware of it being a particularly dodgy model until now
I had powered it on about 3 times in the months leading up to it, nothing seemed wrong and JUST as i was planning to donate it to a charity it died that week
My 12 Pro Max had sound issues for a while that ended up just disappearing, I had no idea there was a recall for it either, could still prove handy if the recall program is still up
I've also had a 1st gen iPod nano in the past with the battery issue
Common failures on devices years later isn’t a design defect but a design, component, or production weakness. There’s a huge difference.
Eventually, everything with a solder joint will fail. The laws of thermal expansion require it.

Samsung Phones are forgetting its Password, pattern lock.
Luckily my phone was still in warranty and Apple replaced the Front faceing camera module which includes the Face ID as well.
how about IPhone 13 Pro/ Pro Max Green screen issues
the exact same problem galaxy s9 and note 9 series suffered. someone should sue samsung for making faulty OLEDs
I had a flip 3 that I traded in for a 23S ultra due to the cracking starting at the fold. My screen hadn't gone out yet but I wasn't waiting around for that to happen.
HTC one M7 I had the pinky/purple camera fault on mine. The sensor would get so hot it permeability damaged itself.
