"Banh Xeo" "Nem lui" "Beef with lốt leaf" "Grilled pork noodle"... are delicious Vietnamese dishes that tourists must try when coming to Da Nang.Thank you
Brother welcome back to Vietnam thank you for doing Vietnamese food absolute justice. There’s still so much food out there you must try hope to see you back as often as you can cheers🍻🍻👍👍
No worry you don`t speak the local language, i love vietnamese food and you bring it so close, i could nearly smell it😋lol ! Great video in Vietnam, Thanks Gary for new tastes ! 👍❤
Totally agree what you said about not being afraid of entering somewhere without the language. In my early days in Japan we’d go into places, not being able to read kanji, and just randomly point at the menu and say in Japanese, this one please.
Great to see you back and eating your way through Vietnam. Danang is a great town -nice beach and good eats. Looking forward to seeing more Vietnam food vids!
Aha, I thought you had said you were going to Viet Nam, and I'm glad you did. Those dishes you had in this were something else, particularly the pork liver sauce and that big leaf with the slices of beef. I actually made a big bowl of pho yesterday with what I had on hand, so it was a combo of beef stock from Germany, rice stick noodles from Korea, green chili paste, tamarind paste, galangal and makrut lime leaves, Red Boat fish sauce from Thailand (and a healthy dash of Isaan/Lao fish sauce), double fermented soy sauce and Hoisin sauce from China, toasted sesame sauce and furikake kimchi seasoning herbs and fish from Japan, plus some Italian basil leaves from our home grown herbs. I also put in some mushrooms from around the world that I reconstituted along with the dried galangal, plus some torn up meat from a baby back rib that we had barbecued with apple bbq sauce, some cut up mini cucumbers, and sliced tomatoes and shallots. Lettuce leaves on the side to cool the palate. I know its not what some would call authentic Vietnamese pho, but having done some reading I get that the trick is to do what you want with what you have on hand. And it was so freaking delicious, I surprised myself so much I'm still talking about it. Anyhow, I'm waiting for those posts you teased with about the two foods that farangs or Westerners will never eat.
@@theroamingcook I do have what basic herbs, spices, sauces, pastes and condiments I can source locally or online, not only for Thai and Asian foods, but Latin, Caribbean, Italian and Eastern European, but have more difficulty getting fresh produce like lemon grass, cilantro, and other specialties, so I often have to make do. That makes cooking creative though, so I enjoy it, especially when it turns out better than I could have expected. I still haven't stopped talking about that pho, enough so that Carol, my partner, says she wants to try it the next time I make it. Of course I never do precise measurements, so it'll be same, same, but different. Looking forward to the rest of this Viet Nam series.
I have to say, as a Da Nang Local, the first shop you saw in the video is the best out of the 3, less touristy too. I've been their regular for the last 15 years.
Yeah, no eggs in them (although someone somewhere is putting eggs in them just to be different). I'd call them Vietnamese sizzling crepes vs pancakes. Crepes are thin and have a bit more texture vs pancakes that are fluffy/thick and soft.
Another great review in central Vietnam Gary. Banh xeo is a must eat anywhere when in VN. Watching your video early in the morning and made my mouth watering 😋. Love to see all your videos eating your way thru VN brother.
*Why do I Do iT to MYSELF?* Watching this early hour. You did great. You did not embarrass yourself. I am growing cucumbers. I have had over five lovely sizes off one plant already. Got six on the plant growing nicely. If you have the space plant one, your weather you will get loads. No garden is needed big pot will be fine. Love your videos. Mark Wiens, step back. No other whities. Haha. That is so Harrow. 555. If you are reading this, I hope you all liked and subscribed. See you in the next one.
I’m from the south of VN I used to wrap bánh xèo with lettuce & mustard green leaves and dip it in diluted fish sauce, every regional cities in vn cook and eat differently
@@theroamingcook I loved it...hogged it all up. Everyone was smiling at me as I guess they had never seen an Indian eat all that good food before. Haha. Thoroughly enjoyed the Ban Xeo as well as the pork skewers spring roll as I call it.
I watched this with my family and was just talking about how at a restaurant here in southern CA they give rice paper to wrap your banh xeo! My mom was surprised to hear that and I was even more surprised when you had rice paper to wrap it in the video too! Love eating it that way now.
So Vietnamese cuisine is based on the broth and the sauce you don't need to taste anything, just the sauce or broth, texture, and flavor are the base of it.
About banh xeo: most places in Vietnam will cook it up and serve it with the shrimp shell left on it. I'm not a fan of eating shrimp with the shell on, so I ask them to take that off before cooking it. Otherwise you'd have to go dig through your banh xeo and remove it yourself, get your fingers messy. Most places will probably accommodate you, if you're like me.
Next time I’ll ask! It’s not something I’m usually a fan of which is why I was surprised in the video when I bit in and wasn’t bothered by it here. Must be good haha
Oh, yeah the places I've gone for banh xeo, they didn't have the rice paper wrap, just the lettuce. Also, I haven't seen that darker sauce with banh xeo. I'm in Saigon, so maybe they do it different here.
While Vietnamese food is amazing; you have to be careful not to get scammed. Vietnamese vendors see foreigners as ATMs and will charge more than locals while giving much less. I'm sure that you're not gonna catch it in the video bc Gary is filming so they won't do any shady stuff😅. My message to all of those interested in Vietnam; don't overpay and don't get scammed. Never take a menu in English but instead take the Vietnamese menu and translate it.
Hey mate you can just ask the price of something before ordering and then shouldn't have any problems, most places I've eaten show prices anyway only markets you need to be on your game and even then I find Vietnamese people to be extremely honest outside of tourist zones. Can't say I've ever been treated as an ATM here or paid more than locals honestly. Fingers crossed
Why we love Gary Butler, he's friken awesome 👌
I bet you can’t guess what I can’t pronounce today 😂
omg it was so funny seeing myself in the video!! the family photo turned out great :)
Ah that was you! Nice to meet you!

Sounds amazing Willie, you’ve got a stacked pantry! Next one should be out tomorrow with a bit of luck!

Food looked great, so fresh.
Thanks for encouraging us to be brave on our travels Gary. Dont want to miss out on the best food.
So good!
Ohhh man. That looks absolutely delish. Heading to Da Nang soon, and gonna hit this place for sure.
How was it?

I’ll have to go back and try them all 😀
As always Gary enjoyed the vid and looking forward to the rest you got me intrigued with the food we may not try
Cheers Malc, I’m glad you enjoyed it
Man those Vietnamese omlettes look amazing! I remember having that my Vietnamese friend introduced me to them
These pancakes do not contain egg. The yellow colour comes from turmeric

I do love the mustard green leaves. Vietnamese food is so diverse
@@theroamingcook for me living in the US for such a long time now, I love American food more than Vietnamese food 😂 seems little bit strange
Gonna go there today. This looks like my kinda food. Drools.

Yeah I was surprised how many of my Vietnamese subscribers are saying they haven’t seen it either. I’ve definitely never had it in Saigon
Pork , Prawn and Egg is where it's at 👍🤑
Always!

Come to Da Nang, you should try the food bánh tráng cuốn thịt heo chấm mắn nêm, verry good
So good!
Your eyes said it all 😅
😂😂
😀😀😀
😎😎😎
If you add more chilli/satay to the sauce (until it turns red), it'll be more delicious.
Thanks for the tip!
♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Looks like its enough for 3 people
Easily!
Get out of the kitchen 😂
Can’t wait to try those pancakes
😂😂😂😂
I like bánh xèo at Da Nang because it's smaller and the sauce, tell me about it. It is way much better than the South
Soooooooo good

Always a jerk to bring his shit back in the comments.🤡
Outside of central Saigon around the tourist spots, I’ve always been ok touch wood 😅
Vietnamese food is both food and madicine
Definitely!
The fish herb is definitely tastes fishy. Personally, I don't like it; anyway there are lots of other nice herbs.
I love it!
