@@stevekinlough588As a Vietnamese, I think Starbucks must have real value when it is so successful. There are 20 million international tourists coming to Vietnam every year, there are several million investors, foreign experts and overseas Vietnamese here. So Starbucks still has a certain number of customers. Vietnamese people still go to Starbucks to communicate, to prove themselves. Objectively speaking, Vietnamese coffee is too small compared to Starbucks on a world scale. Do Vietnamese people like Starbucks coffee? Oh, it's so boring.
Hardly. I went and checked another video "Why Starbucks is struggling in Vietnam". The other video at least did an analysis, actually walked into a Starbucks, presented data, talked to Vietnamese about Starbucks and competitors, and mentioned the pluses and minuses. First of all Starbucks is the second largest franchise after Highlands and is making money so I would hardly call that failure. On the other hand local places like Highlands Coffee get more traffic -- a major metric to look at if you are going to judge success or failure. I live in Ho Chi Minh City and have been to several Starbucks here as well as Highlands, Phuc Long, and others. Starbucks does quite well with all, or most tables taken at peak times. Personally, I like Starbucks which has filtered coffee and high quality Arabica beans from Ethiopia, Rwanda and other places and does a hand pour. In the US I almost never went to Starbucks; but in Vietnam it is a different experience. The only thing that I do not appreciate about Starbucks is them bringing their woke BS to their stores - for one month they had "pride month". My guess is most Vietnamese were oblivious to this stupidity.

@@socialsamy sorry for the typo. Forgot ehat I was talking about but mainly most SBUX bashers don’t understand the target customers of SBUX. In many parts of Asia, especially a coffee centric place like VN, you don’t patronize SBUX because it is the best coffee place. You go there for the status and atmosphere not commonly found. It is the same as staying at a high end hotel at a nice destination when a cheaper place will do. You are paying for American ambiance, which for a typically VN is the opportunity of slow mode everything around you. That is the same reason why western tourist, both white and many younger VK, pay 3x-5x to hang out in the hotspots along Bui Vien in VN. For people like me, that is cheap atmosphere that I got in college, lower end places like French Quarter New Orlean, or non-water access places in Baltimore.
