- Siege Crabs are monstrous crustacean beasts, originally crafted by Kua-Toa magic in the Underdark of Farun. They have also seen use among the Sahuagin and the Triton peoples, not to mention Storm Giants. They are D&D's premier living weapon, and one heck of a way to take down a coastal city in battle.

I like the idea that instead of bigger crabs for the APC type siege crabs, turn them into siege lobsters they would have the same stats just they're a lobster now
My man, my aquatic campaign needs giant monsters in a merfolk war. But I didn't want to unleash the kraken yet.

They are underpowered for the CR, so I might use it as a ticking clock objective of "find the commander".
Or to stat out the giant lobster submarine I gave them a few sessions ago...

Finding a magic coral circlet in a second hand shop the wizard buys it and puts it on.
She feels through the link this giant crab, severely damaged, in pain, all alone. It wants to live, to be useful to its master but it doesn't know where he went.
She must find it, must help it, but the way is dangerous and she is not experienced enough to go on her own...perhaps she can find some decent adventurers in the tavern.
Imagine how scary a Siege Krab would be. I mean a synthetic substitute siege engine from Wish? What could go wrong?

I honestly didn't realize that the siege crab wasn't already part of 5e. That's honestly crazy. I love this monster so much. It's such a fun monster/way of travel. I was actually part of a campaign where we got one as treasure to use for the rest of the campaign. We had to use it to fight against Myrmyxicus from the 3.0 Fiend Folio. That'd be a fun build to see done for 5e.
For a story, maybe a side quest where the crab has escaped or it’s weilder died in an ambush and you are sent out to retrieve the crab but it’s agitated and attacking anything it sees
I wonder how much butter Asmoranomardicadaistinaculdacar author of "The Underworld Cookbook" in Magic The Gathering would need if she made something with a Siege Crab. That's also going to be A LOT of lemons.

A mantis shrimp battering ram. A battery of pistol shrimps. The possibilities are endless
How about a hermit siege crab, with a siege tower for a shell? Or a platform for siege engines? The creatures masters could create a variety of "shells" for it to use in combat. Also, it'd be fun to have one that looks like the cabin of a ship for travelling.

Dustdigger - A giant desert starfish that burrows in the ground and creates a Antlion-like trap.
Trilloch - A negative energy parasite, looks often like a black will o wisp.
Metalmaster - A giant snail that controls magnetism.
Deepspawn - A giant strange orbs with tentacles with eyes and snake-heads, can spawn any creature as a child that it has eaten.
Darktentacles - Much like the octopus-creature form Lord of the Rings.
Dharculus - A strange creature that has tentacles ending in moray-eel heads that is “fishing” from the ethereal plane.
Silt Horror - Much like a bigger Dust Digger, but more like an octopus.
Darkweaver - Giant black spiders that weave and controls shadows and darkness.
Ripper (3rd edition creature) - Much like monster-like version of jack the ripper.
Phthisic - A Tulpa created from an insane mind.
Ethereal Slayer - Much like a giant purple mantis that hunts from the ethereal plane and is found near portals. (I would turn it into a more mantis-like horror)
Vermin Lord - A creature that looks like a human bug and which controls all insects.
Lodestone Marauder - A giant monstrous megatherium sloth that controls magnetism.
Quanlos - Bizarre wasp monsters based on the Emerald Wasp which control victims minds after they sting them.
Ethereal Defiler - Another ethereal creature, this time like some monstrous T.Rex.
Shardsoul Slayer - This golem-like creature turns others insane.
Swordwing - Cool dragonfly-like humanoids that collect trophy’s.
Witherstench - A skunk without fur that stinks horrible.
Crimson Death - A bigger and more awesome version of the Vampiric Mist.
Hullathoin - Giant undead dragon/crocodilians that are covered with diseases and which control undead.
Ulgurstasta - Giant maggot/caterpillars undead which eat you and spit out your animated skeleton.
Boneyard - A creature made out of bones, can take any form and collects more bones to grow in size.
Marrashi - A flying jackal-headed humanoid with bird-feet and wings, it shoots with diseases which turn the victim into new marrashi.
Fetch - A mirror demon that hunts from reflective surfaces.
Jarilith - Much like the bebilith it hunts for other demons, but it looks like some fiery, demonic Manticore.
Advespa - A wasp demon, the name is just so cool.
Draudnu - A horrible demon insect-like thing, if you look at it you think parasites are invading your body and you go insane.
Skindancer - Much like a ogre-gorilla which skin changes depending on the damage you do to it.
Quarrak - Small gremlin-like demons that are always born twins, very high level small creatures are fun!
Crysmal - Scorpions made out of crystal, they create more of their kind from other gemstones/crystals.
Feyr - Like an elemental of fear, born from the fear of an entire village.
Gloomwing - Giant beautiful moths born from horrible caterpillar-like horrors.
Avalancher - Giant crab-like horrors that create shockwaves to create avalanches from rocks.
Bonesnapper - A boring dinosaur that collects bones, can be changed by you, maybe give it the ability to control it’s own bone-growth, creating weapons from it’s own bones.
Rock Reptile - A giant chameleon that can change the structure of it’s skin, turn it into rock for example if among rocks.
Ahuizotl - A mythological creature from Aztec myths, like a giant otter/monkey/opossum hybrid with an appetite for eyes, nails and teeth, also has a claw on the end of it’s tail.
Zezir - A fiery deinonychus.
Steelwing - Much like a Roc with metallic feathers it can shoot.
Hatori - A giant sand-swimming crococile/Mosasaurus hybrid.
Werefox - Very vain lycanthropes, mixed in with the Kitsune from Japanese myths.
Gray Jester - An evil fey grey/black/white jester that drains away happiness around it and turns everybody into negative behavior.
Ragewalker - A cool elf-like fey entirely covered in metal, weapons fly around it.
Splinterwaif - An evil dryad covered in thorns.
Frostwind Virago - Much like a nymph of evil and ice.
Deadly Dancer - The most awesome creature in looks, it limbs end in spikes and it dances into battle (search the image on google, so awesome)
Ravid - A strange drake-like creature of heavenly blue that animates objects around it.
Sunwyrm - A giant yellow dragon of sunlight and light, looks very awesome and can turn into light itself.
Xaver - Much like a mimic, but is a living sword.
Gravorg - A giant Lemure/Monkey/Fossa creature (I would turn it into a fossa) with gravity-control powers.

I already had giga-biga crabs as a part time of my world and mythos, surfacin’, destroyin’ towns, dying and having their carapaces turned into towns. So this is great! Finally have a stat block for em’
Monster Manual III from 3.5 had some of the coolest aquatic monsters. It's one of my go to books whenever I'm putting together underwater combats.
POV: You see a massive crab casting finger of death while also bashing the poopy out of an orphanage while it cackles "EASY ZOMBIE ARMY"
For the APC variant you proposed, my mind jumped straight to a lobster
I just found the beast my semi-aquatic dwarves are going to war in (think Disney's Atlantis but dwarves in an undersea mountain range lol)

I love this video since it kinda sounds like he's advertising it to you. Like I'm at the local car dealership and he wants to tell me about the new siege crabs they have in stock
A different take on the "Personnel Carrier" variant... rather than trying to be inside the crab, you put a howdah on its shell... there's enough room up there for troops, ballistae, you name it.
This would be a great monster for the Kua-Toa to use in a campaign with Dagon as the big bad. Maybe his forces come from the depths to claim the surface world, and one of these creatures comes up to show just how big the threat has become.
If a yellow dragon ever gets a hold of this,all other dragon races will be endangered

I don't actually see text in the google doc on your 5e conversion that says anything at all about the coral circlet, the wielder being able to see through the crab's senses, or anything else regarding it. Nor any mention of sending spells through it. Likewise, since nothing about the circlet is mentioned, it doesn't seem to name the kind of action required (if any) to command it.
I suspect a section is missing.
a giant crab walks up to the city gates being pelted by Canon fire. it stops abruptly as it approaches the wall and raises its massive claws above its body and slowly let's them back down to its side as it shoots fireworks from its claws before studding off to never be seen again
The crab could be in the battle, or could be the McGuffin the PCs are sent to retrieve to swing the tides of battle. Getting to drive this beast and slam it into the enemy's Giant Scary Thing menacing the gates would be a fun way to pay off a siege story, and letting the players temporarily punch above their level.
Going to have my players discover half a coral crown in the ruins of a vault of a civilization that stole artifacts from others (think the British Museum), then give them a tip off that the other half is still in the Underdark somewhere and see if they want to go on a heist to complete it.
My players are about to face tha arch-final-boss, a Storm Giant with a Sahuagin army, I could've not watched this in a better moment
So reverse idea: there's a coastal city that wants to invade an underwater city because they have natural resources and capture crabs and raise them to be APC into underwater cities.

Imagine tritons in a Theros campaign using several siege crabs to go up against a Nadir kraken, like some kind of mecha-godzilla's.

Imagine if after the ancient war, one Siege crab was abandoned in the lake [so the nemies cant use them or hijack them], for the army to take it back when it returns. But it never did. Insted milenia had passed and now in this cold and frigid land a human petty kingdoms life and wage war against each other. One of the kings recently got a new crown, given by an Archeologist, a court mage, an advisor or as a gift from a ambasador from a empire far away.
This new crown happen to be ancient Coral Circlet. And now every time the petty king is doing war council and issuing order over the map, the lumbering beast hack through the bottom of the lake creating earthquakes for whole kingdom (perhaps the crab is under the capital).
Proud King do not have the fainties idea what causing the earthquakes and continues to do so while plotting advisor or the far away empire observe the situation with a grin.
Or perhaps the Coral Circlet was given as a geniue [or forced] gift from guild of archeologist and whole thing is just a mistake from lack of knowledge [or they want to destibilise kingdom and the tyranical king].
A seidge crab ether hauling an armored submarine esqe boat for additional troops and supplies or an armored money hauler crab for intelligent crap people or dragons or some other sea people would be on brand tbh

So the average crab has a shell thickness of .5 inches to an inch! also the average crab is 6" - 8" in diameter!
So siege crabs are almost 20 feet in diameter, that would make the siege crab 30x larger than the average Dungeness crab.
With that math, you could say that a siege crabs chitin shell would be about 15 inches thick.
Soft wood can stop a 9mm shell with a thickness of 12 inches.
therefore siege crabs could deflect 9mm bullets easily off of its shell,
(it could vary depending on where the round strikes and the angle it strikes at.)

Great stats for reskinning. A drugar seige beetle. A drow seige spider. An ilithid seige..... something a brain perhaps (a pimped out ride for an elder brain). An ancient construct. Go wild.
Can you imagine how many crab cakes you could make out of it? This sounds like a lotd or king sending the oarty out to hunt one of these down for their upcoming banquet so they can serve it to this guest. Also it species of crab should be Dugeon-ous Crab.

While it has no mechanical connection to them, there is a Legendary Crab in MTG that can be used in most Merfolk decks
My world has a canonical, legendary desert crab... Might use this for that guy.
Somewhat inconsequential question, but if it has four claws, how many other legs does it have? Crabs are decapods so they normally have ten legs, including 2 claws and 8 walking legs. Are the front two walking legs modified into claws or does it just have two extra limbs?
Do they make an ointment to help with it?

Crabs scuttle, lobsters can swim. So a siege lobster is also going to be an anti-shipping asset. The troopship version (pun intended) with ten, a dozen troops aboard, that's a pirate submarine. Claw takes care of the rudder and any oars, then spells for any sails and the crew. Surface, and throw hooks. The boarding is going to be brutal, but if there is a second one with crossbow men(?) and more spells, you could climb under cover.... And yes, in my games, inserting with one time use featherfall items from a dragon has happened. "Three minutes out... One minute out, unhook... Over the LZ, get off my back!" with a barrel role.
to find out i wasted my time and there was no 5th edition stat block for this was a real bummer.
until 13:00 i wasn't aware i'm watching a big patreon ad.
at least i know now which videos to skip.

Oh boy. Lmao a seige crab. Lmao oh the ideas. A Dragon Turtle is swimming off the coast of Waterdeep in somewhat contested "international waters" and has one of these doing hit and run tactics on the docks to weaken the city as a whole.
Could have a mad tinker artificer build one. Just use the Lifecrafter "template" from the PlaneShift booklet from Kaladesh. Fun fun.
