Absolutely! Just like any of the other bikes on the channel, I've created a playlist. I'll be adding to it as I tackle a lot of the maintenance and getting it back to a daily driver status.
I just finished restoring a 1976 GL1000. Great bikes. Get yourself either a Clymers or Honda factory service manual as that is invaluable. Randakk’s Cycle Shakk sells complete carb rebuild kits for your original carb setup. Replace your timing belts soon. Enjoy!
Great suggestions! I have a Clymers, timing belt on the way, and Randdaks is out of stock on full rebuild kits until mid-February. Glad to hear you enjoyed your '76, looking forward to the first rosd trip.
Hey, thank you! I really appreciate that. I've been trying different things, seeing what works and what doesn't. I've been seeing other channels have success with minimum editing and longer format and it's something I've wanted to try. I believe the BMW R90/6 "Will it Run" video that I'm currently filming/editing with be closer to 50 minutes. Thanks again!
Timming belts are the number one thing on these old wings . If you don't know the maintance history on the Wing replace the belts . These engines are what is called an interference engine . Meaning if the valve and pistons get out of time you at least end up with bent valves ... On the left back of the engine there is a cap on the alternator is a cap/plug that comes off . With a 12mm wrench you can rotate the engine ...There is also a drain hole in the spark plug well that is plugged up causing the issue you have with the one plug .. Nope starting fluid bad for a gasoline engine . Use only carb cleaner or brake part cleaner .That stuff is for diesel engines only ...
You will get it running, It's a goldwing. I bought my 76 goldie over a year ago and it's been wonderful easy to repair and it's been totally reliable for me goin on 300+ mile roadtrips
Man I'd love to find a used GoldWing for a good price around here. They're either so beat to heck they're good for parts, or waaay overpriced. Great work saving this one!
I do believe those are interference engines. The timing belts aren't that expensive, or hard to replace. It has been determined that motorcycles are a lot more fun to ride, than push home.
Yep, they're interference. The timing belt is the first bit of maintenance that will be getting done, unsure when it was changed last. Thanks for the tip!
I bought my 1980 GL1100 for $700. Carbs in a box. Put back together synced carbs, new accelerator pump and it purred. Great bike. People have been known to get a million miles, literally.
A cool original. I loved these bikes since they first come out. I remember being amazed when i learned of the fuel kept under the seat. I'll be watching this job for sure. This is one bike i wish i had to ride now. One here and there pop up occasionally for sale where i live.
I did a conversion like that a few years back. The main initial issue I had was that the manifold I built had a low area in which raw gas would accumulate causing serious ridability issues. After addressing that issue the bike ran great.
Yes, the tubes and that single carb has to be perfect. That VW carb is the best. Lot's of Europeans use single carb but again the tubes and that carb has to be perfect in size and those tubes smooth as a baby's butt LOL.
I noticed that the electric choke wasn't connected, maybe the green wire that you found not connected was for the choke, just saying. The vw carb is the best option for that engine, but the bottom of the body of the intake manifold should be perfectly aligned with the bottom of the intake tubes, i.e., no ridge in front of those tubes. Someone posted a video about it on youtube a while ago. Have fun and good luck.
Amen, you said it. If you have a good professional set up for having that single carb the tubes need to be perfect lined up also beside that special carb. That VW carb is the best.
I got beat ! Only it wasn’t listed. Bought in 1990 I bought a 75’ Z1b for $50. Cleaned carbs, bought a new battery and it ran. Went on to replace sprockets and chain and new tires. Value today is $10k or more.
I got rid of the points on an old '77 GS750 Suzuki and installed a Dyna S electronic ignition and that bike never ran better! The change over was done at 36000 miles on the clock. After 13 years and turning 108000 miles on the clock the Dyna S was trouble free for all those years. The only other thing I would recommend is, if they are not already installed, order up the Dyna high energy coils and install those, the coils go great with the Dyna S. Good Luck if you decide to keep the bike!!😁
Sweet! Happy to hear that and was stoked to find it already had an upgraded ignition system. It does seem to have the stock ignition coils, I've heard good things about the Dyna coils so they will be getting added once some basic maintenance is caught up on. Thanks!
Those single carburetor conversions definitely had some issues. Atomization of fuel was pretty bad in them which could cause drivability issues and I think they would freeze up sometimes too. Definitely do timing belts on it as these are interference engines and if a belt breaks it's trash.
Thr spark plug wells should have wells for water to drain, they are small, but should be able to clear them out with a piece of wire and compressed air. And on the starter, there is a interlock switch on the clutch lever, it has to be pulled in to crank the engine
Why would you place those other carbs since that bike already has been converted to that single carb. Many take of those 4 original carbs since they never stay synced and the bike runs bad. In Europe you see these bikes with that 1 carb setup but those setup is set up with professional setup meaning that the right single carb and tubes. This one has some kind of home work funky home made again funky set up that they welded together and a old bad carb. Ok, sounds like you are going to place back those 4 original set up so go ahead and hopefully you get that bike running good. Amen said Jesus.
Do you plan make additional videos on the bike? I would like to see them!
Absolutely! Just like any of the other bikes on the channel, I've created a playlist. I'll be adding to it as I tackle a lot of the maintenance and getting it back to a daily driver status.

You got me hooked - your mechanical ability is amazing.
Wouldn’t mind longer or multiple videos. Their really well made and you’re great at telling what you’re doing.

You scored man the old goldwings are truly golden

That's awesome! It's definitely a good feeling to get one up and running.

I have a 1976 GL 1000 that I can share pics of. It is going to be in its first show this summer hopefully. The first gen wings are my favorites.
I'd love to see them! If you have an Instagram, send them over to Dispatch Moto!

Hard to beat $50! Do you still have it or did you end up selling it?
Please check the connectors from the generator to the rectifier, these often corrode as well as the solenoid , main fuse area.
Will do, thanks for the tip!
Still can't find
These things look great full naked without all the racks bags and fairing
Agreed!
Yes. I agree also.
A real plus for this generation of G Wing is the auxiliary kick start. 👍👍👍
I LOVE the removable kickstarter. Currently sourcing some additional parts and that's one of them.
That condenser is a voltage regulator rectifier, aftermarket and in the wrong place
Excellent troubleshooting! If you aren't concerned about originality, the VW carb should serve you well.
love it , makes me want another one, good snag..

She's a Beaut Clark.
Jeez 650 bucks. That's a 2k bike where I'm from here in Europe... and 3-5k done up
Right? It's a lot of bike for the money, and not really even an outlier here for these Goldwings. I do think they're undervalued at the moment.
Those single carburetor conversions definitely had some issues. Atomization of fuel was pretty bad in them which could cause drivability issues and I think they would freeze up sometimes too. Definitely do timing belts on it as these are interference engines and if a belt breaks it's trash.
They are a nice bike to ride will do a mono no prob a bit of a jem there ol mate...

Got good deal man good luck ❤
I think so too! Hoping to get this DD status before Spring.

You will do it man
1:39 was the best part

Dude that’s sick!
Yeah!!
Got 2 wings. I want 1 from each generation. Love the gl's
Please do the timing belts, cheap and easy but so very important.
Very collectible. All the tinware is there.
Where in Florida are you? I'm in St Petersburg and have 2 1983 1100 parts bikes not sure what to do with.
I'm up in Tallahassee, I'd be interested in the mechanical fuel pump. I'd have to see what else is interchangeable.
Great bike😎👍
Blessings
I can't find one
Hello brother
Europeans: imagine Honda Goldwing being one of the cheapest used motorcycles to get...
AND people saying I paid too much for a non-runner. They're everywhere over here.
@@DispatchMoto in Baltic states cheapest bikes are old 600cc sportbikes (japanese bikes) and old barn-find soviet-era IZ, Jawa, Dnepr etc.
First Gen has a kicker...
@orionhumberger8648 A removal kicker, which wasn't present when I bought the bike.
you get exactly what you pay for
I had a GL1100, the GL1000 was a better bike.
@@markmeador Happy to hear that! In your opinion, what made the gl1000 superior?
😎🤧😎.

Cheapest huh looking at several 300 doller bikes
10 years ago that bike would be $150 max.
