I might be the minority but I absolutely loved this video. Not many folks out there doing bike revives so this is a breath of fresh air. Really great stuff Derek, thank you.
I agree 100%. I've never owned a Harley but back in the 70's one of my employees had a chopped hard tail with a raked neck and he let me take it for an afternoon of riding. 4 or 5 hours on that one kinda cured me of my desire to own one. Yeah,, I had a ton of fun but the vibration feedback through my forearms let me know IF I felt the burn to get a full size bike I would lean toward a (sorry) 4 cylinder Yamaha, Suzie or Honda.
Best comment because it's soooo true lol. When I read washing machine I heard it like Derek and my grandpa would say it... Wurshing machine?? Idk how to spell it but I hear it and understand it. 😂
1 minute and 12 seconds in and just wanted to say how nice it is to click a guys video and see 300k+ views in 17 hours. Our Feller here deserves all the success in the world. Thank you for all you do Derek 👏🏻
I’ve been into motorcycles since I was young, my dad made a homemade chopper in his automotive class at school in the late 80s and he still rides it. I would really like to see you make a series of returning this bike to how it used to be. It was such a beautiful bike before it was butchered.
That is a VERY expensive proposition. Harley parts are NOT cheap even if you can find decent used ones. I did a restoration on a friends Harley and trust me he put way more into that bike than it was worth. BUT, it would be interesting to see that bike stripped down to parade rest and built back up to attention.
In my youth I always kept a trusty iron horse as my primary vehicle. Suddenly I found myself a full time single dad. No time or money for riding or maintenance, I lost a piece of myself. 25 years later, and 5 sons grown, I'm looking at bikes and seems like I'm priced out of the game. Love this episode, living vicariously through your exploits once again. I really appreciate you sharing your adventures.
@T0tenkampf my biggest regret was not buying a cheap Japanese bike sooner. They are honestly better bikes in alot of ways. Cheap to fix, and you can buy 10 of them for the price of a new Harley. Hell the NEW Japanese bikes are half the price and have all the features.
Yeah, it doesn't matter what it is, I like watching the work. It's also nice seeing videos like the show blower and this bike. Shame I always seem to catch these videos after I spend a week troubleshooting my own stuff first though. Haha
I'm a Harley guy, so seeing you take on this project gets me so stoked! Would love to see more bike content from my favorite youtuber. Cheers from Canada!
There are 2 tensioners. Inner and outer. The inner cam tensioner wears faster. You need to look at it with a dental mirror. They don't make any noise that you will notice when they are bad. I've had them in the shop with 30k miles and they're worn past the pad down to the metal yet the bike ran fine. Easiest upgrade is hydraulic tensioners. I've changed a few to S&S gear drive.
A guy was out on his bike yesterday thinking, gosh darn it would be great to see another vgg motorcycle revival. Here you are answering a guy's riding day dreams!
I’m not a bike guy by any means but that bike was beautiful in its original form and I’d love to see it shine again. Great video to man enjoy watching a lot 😊
Love this change up!! And REALLY love the long videos!! I swear I could watch you tinker with a golf cart for 3 hours straight and not get bored. Keep up the wonderful content!! You bring joy to so so many people!!
Yeah at first I just watched the videos on the cars I like but eventually I realized it doesn't matter. Just working on engines/cars is cool. I like his approach to everything.
Derek: love the fact that you got the HD running! The wife and I bought H D s back in 2005 when we were 57 , 47 respectively we rode all the time! Unfortunately I contracted a deadly cancer in my left kidney! Which I have been fighting off and on for the last 5 years because of Agent Orange from the time spent in Vietnam! You riding down the road reminded me why I, we have those HDs ! The wind in your face! It’s a feeling that is hard to put into words! If you have not experienced it for yourself! I know you know of what I speak! It’s a great feeling of “ Independence “ ! There it is again “ Independence” what being an American is all about! Thanks for making me feel it again! So far I’ve been fighting the battle against this lousy Cancer! This type of renal cancer is very aggressive! I’ve even had it close to the right kidney fought that off, then last year had it in my pancreas! Fought that off with some of the latest cyber knife photon therapy! So far I’ve been clean for the past year! I get checked every three months with labs, cat scans, and MRIs . If I’m clean with the next sessions of scans I can shift to scans every 6 months! I’m not telling you to illicit sympathy I’m a veteran Marine at 75, retired automobile restoration technician! That’s why I and there are many thousands of people like me that watch your videos! We follow you because your reverence toward this country, the USA , and all the thing the founders of this great country went through to establish a country in which you and I can live in freedom and independence! Your show epitomizes this! Keep up the good work son! We love you and your family show! Some of us like myself live vicariously through them!!! Regards Mad Mike S. …………
Mustard rider here. I'm glad to see you finally get back to working on a motorcycle! It's nearly the time of year where I start riding and watching this got me even more excited to do it again. I don't ride in the winter, and around spring time every year I start thinking about selling my bike, but after the first ride of the year I instantly change my mind. Happens every time. As far as your bike goes, you could do the easy route and just return it back to a decent looking bike, or you could totally mad max the thing, make it safe, reliable and keep it ugly. It stands out like that, and I'm not a big patina guy but that would be pretty slick.
Restoring back to original reminds me of when you would hear that to build an old Chevy Impala from new parts the cost would be over 50k. At that time they were about 17k brand new.
Derek. That was excellent. I'm 62 years old and watching this reminds me of when I was a young man riding with my 3 brothers. One of us on any given day would be cobbling something together so we could go riding. Most of our early bikes weren't much prettier than this one! Thanks for the memories!
So glad to see motorcycle content again, the old video you did WAAAY back Episode 8 is still one of my favorites. Thanks for the motorcycle content for us out here who also ride!
Man, I love all these videos, but this one is one of my favorites! Would love to see more bike episodes. I think since it was your brother's bike and something you've ridden along side of, a new set of tins, wiring harness, and bars would be a perfect way to finish it up. Or throw a turbo on it until the rest of that fluid is nice and shiny.
Absolutely love the motorcycle content! If it was me I’d still check out those cam chain tensioners as their inspection interval is every 25k miles for the Twin-Cams, and the previous “owner” wasn’t exactly nice on the poor machine. You might not hear any chain slap now but with those older spring tensioners once they are metal to metal with the cam chain they will fly apart and all that metal will recirculate through the rest of the motor and it’s toast. I only say this as I’ve done a bunch of cam chest inspections at my shop with motors that sound clean and smooth but were at the brink of tensioner failure till we took a peek at them. Cheers and ride safe ❤
Been a Harley rider for many years, Really enjoyed this video! Not sure I would've approached 100 mph with a rotten front tire, but what the hey! Keep up the great videos!!
You are the only mechanic that I would ever trust to work on my vehicles. Pure talent sir, I hope to one day have the extensive knowledge on different vehicles and engines that you have. Until then I'll keep watching your magic. God bless and stay safe.
@@GillyTheKid99 I understand time restraints but its pretty absurd to tell some random youtuber you trust him lol. Also realistically speaking, you could pull an engine and reinstall it in a day.
I'm a motorcycle enthusiast this is a great video. Bike sounds great . good job ,worked at Harley for many years. I would love to see how much life the cam chain tensioners have left. for the dead spot in the throttle, try testing the throttle position sensor. thanks for all your great content 👍
That excited reaction when it fired might be one of the most excited to hear an engine turn over I’ve seen on the channel! Beyond great video, great job Derek.
Lol. That was a startled reaction at first for sure, then total excitement, all in the same 2 seconds after realizing something didn’t explode, and it actually fired up😂. My favorite part
This was right up my alley, so to speak. I'm a gear head through and through. Like you, I've owned many bikes over the years and I really enjoyed this change of pace. You always keep us engaged and entertained so I once again thank you. Keep the wind in your face!
Great video Derek. Some of my favorite videos you’ve ever done have been the off-the-beaten path ones, like that Ford tractor you got running in the middle of Minnesota winter, this one, or the New Years schoolbus field bombing 😂 Always fun to see you having fun doing something different.
Being broke down in his foot arena I am just happy to see him put out something. There was a lot of humor in this video which is great. God bless you and your family.
I'm not a bike guy by any means, but I thoroughly enjoyed watching this. Knowing that bike has been to hell and back I'm sure whatever you decide to do with it will be great.
Absolutely loved this episode. The story and family connection to the bike is crazy. Definitely would love to see it made yours aka. customize it , doesn't have to be nothing crazy, but a nice paint job and clean up/ finish the maintenance on it, bearings , forks , that kind of thing.... a reliable ride. Thanks as always for bringing us along. Really do love your channel and looking forward to getting to meet you one day at an event.
This episode made me smile from start to finish. Hubby is a long time rider, owned more bikes than cars and can recall each bike he's owned, plus the regret sales 🤦, was even a motorcycle courier in Sydney for a few years, yup, still owns two bikes and brings him joy each time he goes wind shopping. (I like cars, a heater and comfort 🤷). You always make me giggle, great job, personally I'd slowly clean this ole girl up and make her sparkle, she's still got it. Thanks for sharing.
This video inspired me to get to work on my 2007 Ultra Classic that I have had an issue when shifting and reaccelerating. Just like you said I used all the exact fluids you did and saved a bundle. I then took a closer look and realized the belt from the transmission to the rear wheel had way to much play in it. About 3” to much play letting the belt slip. I took a couple hours and took things apart and tightened the axle bolt and got the belt to the correct specs. I took it for a quick rip and the problem was fixed. I have since out over 150 miles on it with no issues. Thank you so much for this video you have now got me inspired to work on my other projects in the shop.
I would concur with everyone else that this video was an enjoyable change. If you’re looking for recommendations for what to do with it next, what about a ‘take off’ rebuild series? There is so many ‘take off’ parts for HDs available, I’m sure it would be entertaining to see how many eBay take off parts does it take to get it looking good again? Regardless, thanks for all the great content Derek!
Really enjoyed that one Derek! I'm 4 months into rejuvenating a 2007 Harley Street Bob and she's almost there. I'm in the U.K. so parts can be tricky to find, I'm working in a lock up garage with no light or power but seeing you riding down the road on the old '05 gives me the push I need to get her finished. Thank you, and best wishes to you and yours!
I've had two bikes stolen. One out of my garage and the other out of my living room. Some people are just nasty. I'm talking about bicycles though haha. Never thought it would happen. Now I'm looking for a cruiser motorcycle because I love riding them when I get the chance. That's awesome you guys got that thing back!
Downright shameful what was done to that beautiful bike. I don't know what your plans are or if it's a financially sound decision, but I'm betting a lot of us would be thrilled to see you restore it to its former glory, paint and all. Whatever you do, we'll be watching and cheering.
That shot at 51:30 was awesome!! It's funny that we all kind of think of the "Sloppy Midwest mechanic" persona that we all know and love, but the content and production quality, as well as the genuine solid advice, backs it up. Keep up the good work!!
I learned in the 80"s to ride in the left most part of the lane, so that oncoming traffic could see you, but I agree about the modern "self driving" vehicles, people are too dependent on the technology to be paying attention to what they're actually doing. So I ride center left, now. Better have eyes in the back of your head nowadays. Great story and great storytelling.
I can't believe it took me a year to find this video. I've been riding for 50 years and it never gets old. I had an 05 Heritage. I put 94,000 miles on it. Big bore kit and cams at 52,000 miles. It looked and ran like new when I traded it for my Electra glide. Great video, as always.
Derek, cheers for an awesome bit of motorcycle content! Nothing beats the revival of a bike with a personal connection (your brother), only to have it stolen away, and then recovered and returned to you, after many years, and 30,000+ miles later, holding the secrets of its sordid past! (... is this a content comment, or a film script pitch ⁉) I'd love to see more content on the bike, as you bring it fully back to 100% (in any way you choose👍‼) Keep doing what you do 👍‼
This episode reminds me of helping my dad tinker around with his old Harley when I was a kid around 9 years old. It is so fulfilling to see old iron brought to life and back on the open road again. I currently don't own a bike, but it makes me want to get so I can ride with you, Derek, and maybe a cold snack or two. No dui's 😂. Thanks for the trip down memory lane cause my dad is no longer here, but the the channel and your wholesome family, sir.
Sorry, I'm just trying to focus. I meant to say get a bike to ride with you. I also meant to say I love the channel. My dad was a veteran, and so am I. The veteran bike rides mean a lot to me to remember my dad. Thank you sir.
Hey Derek! Love the channel and that you got this bike back in the road! I’m a police motorcycle officer and instructor up here in Washington State, if you’re ever in the area I’d be happy to show you stuff from the police riding world, cool slow speed turny stuff, tips n tricks, and the whoop whoops… basically just stuff to show off in the tavern parking lot… anyway love the content, hope your foot heals up ok, and left side wheel track all day!
We all love you Derek, your the best, you've became a big part of everyone's lives, we're all total strangers but your basically family at this point. 😁
Glad to see the bike ended up back in your family Derek. I would love to see you restore this bike back to the original condition it was in when it was stolen. Anyways great video as always. Please ride carefully and keep those great videos coming.
I just sold my 1999 Harley Softail Night train witch I bought in year 2000. Have been living in Thailand this time and been driving around with other bikers or alone all these years. Your video reminded me of my bike even if it's a newer model with bigger engine, mine was a 1340 CC (82 cu in). Great video and thanks for sharing.
Bless your heart Derek, working on a bike without a injury can be aggravating, just shows how much you love your fans!!!! Kudos to you from a fellow bike affectionado with a basement full of old Honda’s😁
First gear, it's all right; second gear lean right, third gear hang on tight. Was there a line for 4th gear? I've owned bikes on and off since 1967. From a 66 Honda S90, to a 74 Sportster (a real vibrating experience for your hands!), an 03 Harley Sportster, a 97 ElectraGlide then I added a sidecar since my sense of balance went with the breeze. Ran out of storage, had to sell the 'Glide- no free storage space. ☹
I'd ride with you anytime, Derek! I'm a mustard kind of a guy, so we're a natural fit! Ride safe whatever you ride. Great work as always. Thank you for being so generous with all of us. Greatly appreciated!
Another awesome episode! If you could get that onto the ramp truck with a car, you should make that into a custom VGG pit/T2T bike. Also, I personally am more of the mustard kind of rider, for two reasons; 1. I want to be fully visible in the mirror of the car ahead and not hidden from sight for oncoming traffic who might try to turn behind that car, 2. I like in Washington where the mayo is usually covered in glass car parts, trash, and most likely water
I'd love to see you do a semi/cabover revival 🤔. No substitute for cubes 😊 This is cool tho, always up for something different. Always love your videos, big thanks Derek.
Looking forward to watching this. My Harley was stolen years ago when I was away playing in the sand somewhere. I recovered it but it’s sat since. Maybe this will motivate me to tear it down.
Takes me back to Yuma MCAS , 1974, when I bought my basket case 1967 Shovel head former Georgia State Police Bike! I put it together, got the worn out crank pin replaced, painted it with several friends with a California Kid flame job on gloss black and rode it all over Arizona and later Ohio and Virginia. You’re the best channel on TH-cam Derek! Add to it that you’re a fellow Tennessean and what more could a feller want? Thanks for the transporting experience!
Love to hear the bike's story, and I'm glad it's back in the family! I think of Valvoline VR1 as "Centrum Silver ". It's got all the vitamins and minerals an old boy needs!
I love the bike episodes, being a harley tech (twin cam is the best cam kinda guy), it's fun to see what you're doing that I do a little different. ATF goes in the primary if it's got Barnette clutch or an aftermarket. The atf type f makes the clutch grab better.... anyways a little manual impact and a small Tonya Harding works great for those derby cover bolts! I used em everytime... just in case 😆. LOVE THE VIDEOS KEEP UP THE HARD WORK!!!!
Hey Derek, LOVED this episode. PLEASE fix this bike up and BTW, do MORE bike episodes. Maybe some bike rescuse like you do car rescues? That would be excelent! BTW, I'm a mustard guy, myself.
As an owner of 2 Harleys I can’t tell you how much I loved this episode Derek , I’m half way through and hoping you at least repaint the tins . Thanks mate great way to spend a wet and windy February Wednesday in the UK .
There are many things that I didn't know I had an interest in until Derek made a video about it.👍 Derek is a very engaging presenter and has a very lively sense of humor.😂 Much love and blessings to all ❤️ Stay safe everyone 🤘😎
Derek, I enjoyed watching you get the Harley running. I have been a fan from the very first video you done 5 years ago. You do a feller's heart good with your humor and knowledge of vehicles. I look forward to your content on TH-cam and Roadworthy Rescues. I know it will be of the highest quality. Thanks, Melton Sloan
I know its been a while but i am just getting to this one. As a Harley MMI graduate and Harley technician for 5 years this is really fun to watch. I would love more bike videos.
Glad to see you're feeling better. Hope you're giving yourself enpugh time to heal up. I really enjoyed this one. Variety is one of the thnigs that makes this channel great.
24:23 I jumped just like you did lol! That caught me off guard there was no “BRING THE THUNDER” 😂 for warning, they really went full tweeker on that poor beautiful machine! So cool to see it getting love again, I hope your earth pounder is feeling better! And good luck and the danger ranger in Bristol, I’ll be cheering for you from Commifornia
Derek, really enjoyed this video, it reminded me so much of your old video working on the other dark red/maroon/whatever colored bike which inspired me to paint my whole truck in my garage. I believe you're inspiring people to work on their rigs every day and I hope I get down south to meet ya someday!
I'm pretty sure Chris is the brother who doesn't really have much to say at all on camera. He's a good brother. Nice of you to fix up his Harley for him - if he's getting it back. I'm just at the beginning but cool I love to see a Harley build!
Had to go back and watch several bits over again cause Dereck had me in hysterics so often. Probably the most comical episode on the channel. Love it! Keep it up guys.
What I love about your channel is that you do everything that has an engine you are not a picky guy not a lot of people do what you do Derick you are the best of the best and have the best channel, keep this videos coming you're bound to hit 2 million subscribers very soon good luck to you my funny friend 🤞😜👍
You had a fella going through withdrawals waiting 2 weeks for a new vidya. Had me checking the community page to make sure a fella was doing ok. Guess I need to turn on notifications for VGL so I don't miss anymore great content! Thanks for another great video and for bringing us along!
Great video, Derek! I think it would be cool to see this bike go back to it’s original flavor…some of the bling could be left off- just to streamline it a little bit, though. The original color is beautiful. Also, I tend to be more of a mustard feller.
I’ve got an 05 road king. I was worried about the cam chain tensioners when I bought it. The feller I bought it from said it was “rebuilt” and they were replaced. Of course he lost the paperwork. While doing the maintenance I tore the cam chest open and found the tensioners were brand new thankfully. The bikes got 87k miles on it now and runs great 👍🏽 loved this episode!
That was awesome! You're number👍in my book, Derek! So thankful you made it home in one piece. Hope your wheel keeps improving too. Great episode. Thank you, and have a blessed weekend!
Bikes aren't my strongest side, but I enjoyed this episode still! I haven't got any good suggestions about what to do with this particular piece, but considering the impressive history of it I think it deserves a makeover! Maybe not to stock specks ... just make it look good and be a part of the family again!
I think the bike has a lot of character and a real story to tell, just make it safe to ride and keep the looks pretty much as it is now. Really happy to see bike content on this channel, I ride a BMW r1150gs and she's been treating me pretty well the three or so years I've had her.
Wicked episode! Somehow you manage to keep a feller laughing while learning. I’m a bike guy and I love to ride ! Great job keeping that old girl alive and on the road ! Love what you and your family do brother! Be safe , god bless and take care !
5 years ago, I bought my first bike…a 2007 Ultra Classic with 47k on the odo. Traded it 2 years ago with 71k on it…on a 2021 Ultra Limited. 2007 was the oldest I wanted to go because of the 96” motor, the 6 speed, and the cam tensioner issue was “resolved”. While I really like the 114” M8, I miss that old Twin Cam barking thru the V&H pipes. It’s sad what that punk did to your brother’s bike. Glad to see you wake it back up.
Thanks for another great episode. I've been riding motorcycles forever myself and have had every flavor and persuasion as well. Watching this brought back some good memories of wrenching on Harleys in the garage and just how therapeutic it can be. Love the idea of riding with you some day. I'll be down in your neck of the woods with a group of guys next month, riding around in the mountains a little east of you. Take care, brother, see you soon.
Nicely done getting it back on the road. Surprised the heck outta me when it fired right up on ya. I think you should doll it up and rebuild it the way it once was. Surprise your brother with the fact you were able to get it all back to how she once was. I think you'd get one heck of a good reaction out of your family!
People who buy motorcycles don't have much time to ride, due to having a job and all. People who steal Harleys have all the time in the world to ride! And with all that running from the bad things you do, the miles add up fast! Good job man, great work as always!
@@zrxdoug My 2013 😊Ultra was bought the day I retired..87000 miles so far. Been slowed down a few times for two knee replacements, rotator cuff repair and since Jan this year for a ruptured tendon in my right foot. Therapy has gone far enough for me to head out tomorrow for the first ride in 4.5 months! 😊 It's never been on a trailer and doesn't leak a drop!
That was a BEAUTY Heritage Softail! It can be again, that is why they are so special. I have been to that Harley dealer out there - but not during the popular leather festival they have there - and you’re right, riding out there is a treat more special than words can do justice to. That is a Fatboy front fender on it, Derek. As for scrapes on the pegs, well, you’re not riding them right if they don’t happen. 😅 That switch behind the headlight on the fork tins was for the passing lamps that used to be on each side of the headlight. My wife has one of these so I have some experience with them. I like the bone rattle of the Dyna line; the Softails all feel like a big puffy marshmallow to me. We are older now so our Softail and Dyna are still here but we lean into our touring models more now. You were given a granpappy of a gift on the it is shiny inside fuel tank. As for the thief messing this bike up… …I’ll just stop at thieves are special kind of stupid. I had a barrel of fun watching you reincarnate this thing.
Wow - the story behind this. Be nice to see it get brought back to it's former glory, but I know shiny stuff would just scare a feller.... And realistically, it would cost far too much. Anyho, def nice seeing it brought back to life, and it is far far more important that it was found and that it can and will be enjoyed.
Go full bobber with it. Strip the tins and clean it up, maybe change the tank or cut a strip out to narrow them, swingarm mount a fender, eliminate or run a cateye dash, etc. That's what I am in the middle of doing to my old evo Softail that got laid down a few years ago. Pick a direction and run with it for fun, whether a 50s/60s style build, or since the front is tweaked, go 70s style chopper/bobber, etc.
I loved this episode and would like to see you work the bugs out of the electrical. I would also like to see how VGG would customize it to Derek's taste.
The kill switch probably wasn't making a good contact closure. After you worked it several times it did. Simple as that. Love your content Derek. Love the whole family involvement. Can't wait to see you on dirt in Bristol!
Derek, since you asked... If I am by myself or the lead bike in a group, I always ride the left side of the lane. Both to be seen by the vehicular in front, and the ones coming at me. If I'm in a group, I prefer to ride the right edge of the lane, staggered because it gives me options... especially in curvy wurvy sections of highway. (Current bike, 2012 HD Switchback FLD, fun, light, quick and great handling bike).
Hey Derek I love your content@ vice grip garage!! Thanks for doing a bike build its awesome to watch!! I think maybe a guy could bring her back to original the way your brother Chris had it. Then surprise him with it and give it back!!
He doesn't want it as he bought a newer one. That's why he was selling it the first time and then the second time to Derek. Plus, that bike was ridden hard, they road it like they stole it, because they did. That was a nice thought though.
I might be the minority but I absolutely loved this video. Not many folks out there doing bike revives so this is a breath of fresh air. Really great stuff Derek, thank you.
Thanks for watching
I agree 100%. I've never owned a Harley but back in the 70's one of my employees had a chopped hard tail with a raked neck and he let me take it for an afternoon of riding. 4 or 5 hours on that one kinda cured me of my desire to own one. Yeah,, I had a ton of fun but the vibration feedback through my forearms let me know IF I felt the burn to get a full size bike I would lean toward a (sorry) 4 cylinder Yamaha, Suzie or Honda.
I am, but Derek’s in a different class lol.
@Vice Grip Garage it all most looks like your struggling for content 👍

Best comment because it's soooo true lol. When I read washing machine I heard it like Derek and my grandpa would say it... Wurshing machine?? Idk how to spell it but I hear it and understand it. 😂
Totally agreed.
I can hear it now... put a cup full of this Tides in.. dumps half a bottle in, Yeap that's fine.....I wonder what jake the snake roberts is doing...?
The fans speak and Derek listen’s!! He asked if we wanted a motorcycle, and here it is. Happy to see this bike getting another chance.
Would absolutely LOVE to have a group ride with all the VGG fans and you @ViceGripGarage Derek. Keep us posted.
Oh my goodness the look on Derek's face when the bike brings the thunder when he's figuring out the wiring.
That was a Kodak Moment for sure... lol!
1 minute and 12 seconds in and just wanted to say how nice it is to click a guys video and see 300k+ views in 17 hours. Our Feller here deserves all the success in the world. Thank you for all you do Derek 👏🏻
I got 86k out of a 88ci softail. Still ran good I just was ready to beef it up a little
I’ve been into motorcycles since I was young, my dad made a homemade chopper in his automotive class at school in the late 80s and he still rides it. I would really like to see you make a series of returning this bike to how it used to be. It was such a beautiful bike before it was butchered.
Yes indeed. Clean up the meth. A Harley detox if you will.
I agree 👍

I say make it look good again. It deserves it.
😂😮😮😮BURN OUT BIKE!!
Bike prices are ridiculous! I’m right there with you brother.
Similar here so I swallowed my pride and bought a metric bike...paid 100 bucks for a vulcan 1600 lol
Go find yourself an old Evo frame. You can build one for a couple months payments on a new Harley.

Used market Kawasaki Vulcan S 650. Sporty cruiser with some pep and good handling.
I'm a motorcycle enthusiast so this made me so happy when it popped up in my feed! Would love if you did more motorcycle recoveries!
For real more amazing motorcycles saved 🙏😎 bro knows or he can get are help 💙😎
Derek’s at his best when he’s bringing something back to life. Enjoyed watching this one for sure!
Ditto
It’s fun watching for sure it reminds me how fun it is to sit in the garage and tinker on my toys when I can find the time
That’s for sure!!
Keep it ugly I agree! Too many perfect, over chromed garage queens hogs out there. This bike has real character. It tells a story.
Restoring back to original reminds me of when you would hear that to build an old Chevy Impala from new parts the cost would be over 50k. At that time they were about 17k brand new.
@William M yeah, I was horrified to hear the prices of genuine Harley parts...makes em not worth stealing... Unless you want the parts
Yeah considering at the start he mentioned that he has to be mindful of it and then just sends it down the road lol
You are the only mechanic that I would ever trust to work on my vehicles. Pure talent sir, I hope to one day have the extensive knowledge on different vehicles and engines that you have. Until then I'll keep watching your magic. God bless and stay safe.
so until you get him to work on your vehicles, you can learn to fix them yourself.
@@BigBlockCaprice Well that is what I do, but I cannot always pull engines when I also have a job to do. Juggling time is difficult.
@@GillyTheKid99 I understand time restraints but its pretty absurd to tell some random youtuber you trust him lol. Also realistically speaking, you could pull an engine and reinstall it in a day.
@@BigBlockCaprice Derek is not a random TH-camr. We've been able to watch him and his technique for years.
I don’t think we could afford his rates
I'm a motorcycle enthusiast this is a great video. Bike sounds great . good job ,worked at Harley for many years. I would love to see how much life the cam chain tensioners have left. for the dead spot in the throttle, try testing the throttle position sensor. thanks for all your great content 👍
That excited reaction when it fired might be one of the most excited to hear an engine turn over I’ve seen on the channel! Beyond great video, great job Derek.
😊😊
Lol. That was a startled reaction at first for sure, then total excitement, all in the same 2 seconds after realizing something didn’t explode, and it actually fired up😂. My favorite part
Definitely would love to see it restored to its former glory! Love the bike videos! You do an excellent show!
Foot arena?
I'm not a bike guy by any means, but I thoroughly enjoyed watching this. Knowing that bike has been to hell and back I'm sure whatever you decide to do with it will be great.
Great video! I’m wondering if that’s a different dash and those miles aren’t correct.
Awesome idea with the "take offs" build.
It's too bad that bike had to sit outside on the trailer after it was rescued!!😢
Just got my '06 Street Bob outta storage from a long siesta, and another state. Thanks for the inspiration and awakening my laugh factory !!!
Love to see this bike redone back to its former glory when your brother had it.
All those missing chrome pieces will be a wallet emptier for SURE... 😳
I swear this man can make anything into a loyal ol rig, I wish I had that kind knowledge and skill!
You and I both
Thank you! A motorcycle episode! I've watched pretty much all you videos. Soon to be a patron! Keep up the good work, Derek!
Yessir
Bless your heart Derek, working on a bike without a injury can be aggravating, just shows how much you love your fans!!!! Kudos to you from a fellow bike affectionado with a basement full of old Honda’s😁
First gear, it's all right; second gear lean right, third gear hang on tight. Was there a line for 4th gear? I've owned bikes on and off since 1967. From a 66 Honda S90, to a 74 Sportster (a real vibrating experience for your hands!), an
03 Harley Sportster, a 97 ElectraGlide then I added a sidecar since my sense of balance went with the breeze. Ran out of storage, had to sell the 'Glide- no free storage space. ☹
I've got an old 1977 Trail 90!! Mint! Haha only 1,368 original miles. Same tires from the factory 🏭
i would love to see vice grip do more motorcycles!
im 19 and about to start restoring a 1979 honda cb750K as my summer project
No substitute for cubes 😊
This is cool tho, always up for something different. Always love your videos, big thanks Derek.
Derek... I'm a MAYO man myself!!
You caught me by surprise with this one and I LOVE IT!!😊
Keep em comin' and we'll be watching!❤
P.s... maybe you ought to leave "ol Handsome" like he is...
Nobody will be tempted to steal it!!😂😅
Looking forward to watching this. My Harley was stolen years ago when I was away playing in the sand somewhere. I recovered it but it’s sat since. Maybe this will motivate me to tear it down.
So glad that you were able to recover the bike after so long, good luck on restoring to its original state
Takes me back to Yuma MCAS , 1974, when I bought my basket case 1967 Shovel head former Georgia State Police Bike!
This was a great video, reminds me a bit of the snowblower videos of the past. Nice to see this bike be revived and live once more!
There are many things that I didn't know I had an interest in until Derek made a video about it.👍
Derek is a very engaging presenter and has a very lively sense of humor.😂
Much love and blessings to all ❤️
Stay safe everyone 🤘😎
For hand grips, I always use extra-hold hair spray. I raced flat track, motocross, and cross-country enduro. I never once had one slip.
yeah, aquanet was what I would use
I was scrolling through wondering if anyone would mention the old lady’s hair spray for grips! First time ever seeing spray paint though lol
Wow this video really makes me appreciate my 04 softail heritage and the excellent condition it’s in. Just a shame what happened to this one.
Love to see a build series of you restoring/building this bike. Great video.
Nice ride. Can't wait to see what you do with it! Keep up the great content. Love all your videos.
That was awesome! You're number👍in my book, Derek! So thankful you made it home in one piece. Hope your wheel keeps improving too. Great episode. Thank you, and have a blessed weekend!
Loved this one! Love to see a build series on this bike. Been riding motorcycles since I was a kid! Own a 2014 Harley ultra limited now.
Glad to see you up and at em! Prayers for a speedy recovery fella!
I averaged 26,000 miles a year when I was riding..of course, my bike was a Kawasaki so it didn't get trailered, it got ridden.
😁
@@zrxdoug My 2013 😊Ultra was bought the day I retired..87000 miles so far. Been slowed down a few times for two knee replacements, rotator cuff repair and since Jan this year for a ruptured tendon in my right foot.
Therapy has gone far enough for me to head out tomorrow for the first ride in 4.5 months! 😊
It's never been on a trailer and doesn't leak a drop!
Bring it back to its glory Derek. It deserves it after so many year's and miles.
I can't get enough of your v videos, thanks so much you make an hour or two better every so often. Thanks again!
We love ya Derrick and your work ethic it's noticed and appreciated fella.
