He attacks Terra at her home one day in an effort to get revenge, and Terra kills him out of self-defense.

Yes, at some point you have to take a deep look at yourself and the energy that you generate that attracts this type person (man or woman in any relationship).
The mom can choose whatever she wants for her life. However, she doesn't need to involve all the men she's dating into the lives of her children. Although it was a horrible experience, I think this family is still very lucky the abuse wasn't far, far worse for her daughters.
Why do you think she left him? They should’ve got protection or reported him to the cops but it’s not the moms fault. That’s just my view point of this.
Her "child" was 24 years old
She's been on other shows that shows the whole story. I think that she was on I survived. She's a strong young woman.

The mom needed to take a break from men instead of going with these men -Each one worse then the one before..You were lucky to be alive. Your so brave and strong.

I just don't get it. HOW can you go through so many relationships with vile predators and not LEARN anything from it? HOW can someone keep choosing the EXACT SAME kind of monster over and over??
That's the definition of insanity. Doing the SAME thing but expecting different results.

Each man was ultimately disgustingly bad, but in varying ways. She was set on finding a life partner, and she is lucky her daughter Terra didn't get murdered by the last winner she took up with. It seems ridiculous that he got away with passing himself off as an MD despite having dirty nails. If I went to see a doctor who had dirty nails I would get up and run out of his office.
I swear I don’t get it either. She knew everything they found on him & she goes back!! Watching her interviews I still think she doesn’t get the severity of the situation. He attempted murder. It’s like she’s still in denial.

Not only was Debra married 4 (or 5?) times before John, but she also conned some of them just like John did to her (look up her court documents - one divorce in particular sounds just like her relationship with John, only the guy wasn’t a “dirty John”). She’s got a long track record of toxic relationships and her daughter Jacquelyn has an extensive criminal history. The Newells are not the “victims” they want you to believe they are.
@@pinkpugginzI think Terra fantasized about killing John from the get go. Her dreams of stabbing him are a clear giveaway, as is her body language and the way she laughs when telling this story. She often has dupers delight on her face, too.

@@lizza4975I don’t believe her story. I’ve watched several of her interviews and her story changes. And if you visit her social media, she constantly has some tragedy going on in which she’s the “victim.” It’s like she thrives on chaos and the attention and pity it brings her. Plus, in this very interview she admits that she held John’s body and head while he was gasping, which tells us that she had time to get up and run away and call police. But instead, she chose to go for the final stabs to the head and eyeball, aka going for the “zombie kill” as she says in her interview with Megyn Kelly. On her Instagram, she posted a video of her feigning a weird, maniacal type laugh while advertising some of her latest merch - a shirt that says “Keep Calm and Kill Zombies” with blood spatters on it. WTF!? From what we all know about John, he was a bad dude, but she did not kill in self-defense. She murdered him. It takes only a couple stabs to ward off a threat. She stabbed him 13 times. AND, it’s highly unlikely that a 5ft woman with no fight training would win against a 6ft+ man who was trying to push her into his car. C’mon…..
You're extremely brave and smart in how you managed to save yourself from that monster, but you're also a hero saving other women from future harm by him, because he would had never stop and the justice system doesn't always bring appropriate justice. He got exactly what he deserved although it would of had been better if someone sweet as you didn't have to endure trauma for this to happen. I'm glad it is you who's alive, not him and hopefully you & your mum had learn necessary skills to scan and protect yourselves from this kind of dangerous, toxic men in the future.
This story was made into a film .he deserved it ! You did good terra .
What movie
She still suffered with trauma that got better but is still something she contends with. Terra is spiritual and God was definitely with her that day. It looked like he planned on leaving the country after killing her, but she quashed that plan. One thing we can also learn from this is trust your dog's advice. Her dog was telling her they were in danger but she paid him no mind.
States it was made into a film and doesnt provide the name of it..
Netflix did a really good job with this. The series is done well.

Never choose a man over your children! They arent worth it because, if you know there is a choice, then you have to know that man is a bad man. Theres no choice, always put your family and children before anyone. I saw a documentary about this and this daughter was so brave, she knew there was trouble and she had to save herself and she did what she had to do to stay alive..very brave!
She never have been put in that situation in the first place. Having to murder someone to stay alive is a bad thing to have to go through.
I had a therapist that didn't understand trauma. It wasn't good. Luckily I stepped up for myself and found a therapist that does understand trauma.
Please Lord tell me her mother gave up men after that because clearly her picker is broken...
Her picker or just that she was manipulated? Do you say the same thing about victims that have been murdered? Well they shouldn't have trusted their mom, dad, brother, aunt, uncle, husband or wife, or that kind stranger down the road?

After only 2 months she marries him. 2 months of MEETING HIM. Hid it from her family because she knew it was insane. She had 2 daughters, a huge business & she didn’t even bother to check anything about him, ran off & married him after just 2 months. Ignoring her children’s concerns, ignoring everything they told her they found on him. I just don’t get it. I don’t. How could she be so irresponsible? Terra, u’re my hero!

This girl survived being stabbed by and KILLING the man stalking their family. Think she’s been through enough, and the mom has constant guilt, rest assured.

I think it's more of a trauma thing rather than a love addiction. Maybe the mum suffered abuse or neglect as a young child or teen so she may have abandonment issues when it comes to relationships. She should have tried to heal herself and made sure she had a proper mother daughter relationship with her daughters first.

I feel so bad for Tara even through she did nothing wrong she has to live with the trauma of what happened that day and the guilt of taking someone life and it’s all because her “ mother’s” selfish decisions and her mother selfish desire for male companionship.
Put her mum in Jail too and save that family

I went through something similar. My mom married a con artist and I knew it right away. Thankfully, I did not have to kill him, thankfully. You went through a LOT more. Praying for you and your family!
this poor girl SHOULD NOT have been so involved with her mothers dating life since her childhood.
I think her mom wanted love so bad she was willing to ignore some pretty serious red flags. Tara you are amazing. You looked out for your mom and you saved her life. That violent narcissist was going to kill her for her money guaranteed. I am happy that you and your mom are safe and you saved many more women.

This story reminds me of the movie The Stepfather. Her mom sure had a bad habit of falling in love very quickly
When I first listened to the podcast "Dirty John," I thought that only the hand of God stopped that deviant from killing Terra! This real-life story was incredible! Blessings to this young lady!🕊💜

her mother chose John over her daughters, and she was warned many times, she even took him back after the first time when she found out who he really was and didn't even tell her daughters, she didn't tell them even when she married him after a couple of months, her mother is a lost case, she put her daughters in severe danger. I consider her to be a really stupid woman! Glad this girl was able to fight back and kill the asshole, she was lucky but not everyone is lucky, mothers should never pick a man in place of her kids.
Im getting a sense of generational trauma. Her mum needed to heal herself first so that she and this strong lady could have had a better life and attract genuinely loving and caring relationships.
It’s ridiculous Deborah 2 favorite excuses for ignoring the warnings from Tara and her siblings are “ they never liked like anyone I dated before John” and “ I never saw it as me choosing over them” let’s take a look at just the short list of times when she made her choice.

Before she met and married John she dated and married guys who would use and abuse her one of those guys by the way was OJ Simpson is it any wonder they had no faith in her ability to chose a good a good man?
The night before thanksgiving she saw John going off and Tara and didn’t tell him “ don’t you ever speak to my daughter that way and get out of my house HOW IS THAT NOT A CHOICE? Later that night he told her “ I don’t want Tara here for thanksgiving” and she told Tara not to come HOW IS THAT NOT A CHOICE?
Before Christmas she knew her kids didn’t want anything to do with John and she knew how bad thanksgiving turned out because of John. But yet she told them if they were going to have an issue with John being there it be better if they didn’t come. HOW IS THAT NOT A CHOICE?
She agreed to stick to perfectly reasonable boundaries with Tara but she didn’t honor them and when Tara got upset she told Tara deal with it go in the other room and she blames the kids for the disaster that Christmas became HOW IS THAT NOT A CHOICE?
When things were staring to unravel and she found out what the private investigator found about him she could no longer deny that this man who she knew hated her kids
was a possible danger to her kids she stayed with him because she was still clinging onto her fantasy that they would eventually be one big happy family. HOW IS THAT NOT A CHOICE?
When John was in the hospital her kids and her therapist where telling her don’t talk to John and her therapist told her don’t go see him in the hospital but yet she want right ahead and did HOW IS THAT NOT A CHOICE?
After she got back together with John she could no longer claim that she didn’t know that he was a danger to her kids yet she stayed with him and still wanted her kids to be willing to be around him so she could have her dream happy family HOW IS THAT NOT A CHOICE? And if she was willing to ignore that John was a danger when she had the facts in front of her how is it remotely believable that was NOT WILLING to turn a blind eye and a deaf ear to the red flags she saw before she saw the PI report?
His dirty nails and scrubs should have tipped her off he was doing a very poor job of pretending to be a doctor. Her daughter's picked up right away he was a gigolo and seemed to be appraising items in her home. Yet she allowed him to get away with yelling at her children and telling them theycouldn't spend x-mas with her and her new dreamboat psycho.
I remember in the podcast that Tara’s boyfriend at the time told Debra, “I thought Thanksgiving was was about family and not boyfriends,” before he and Tara left
Yes in her book Deborah whines about how she was in tears most days because her kids were not coming to see her and keeping the grandchildren away from and wants sympathy because she was so heartbroken. She basically told her kids she created the estrangement by telling them if you want to see me and have a relationship with me you have to accept John.

Women; seriously, if you got kids, and it didn't work out with their dads, just FORGET IT. Leave relationships alone til the kids grow. Never been more serious about anything in my life. The feel good once in a blue moon good relationship is absolutely the VERY rare exception.
I worked at a bank 1/2 mile from where he was stabbed. I helped him a few times and found out he was a liar haha. He was dating a woman that was a dr n claimed he was guna have kids w her. I helped that same woman 2-3 months later n brought him up & her face turned so quick 😳 she said none of what he said was true & was disgusted talking bout him. Dude was a crazy pathological liar

By her body language and the way she’s speaking you can tell she’s not telling the full truth, she added way too much unnecessary information to the story in the beginning. There’s something off about her.
