You can also cook it! You tossed the jelly, which is also good. Pick younger eggs and wash them while they still have the membrane on, remove the membrane, put the jelly in a glass dish, wash the remaining jelly off the middle of the egg, remove the slimy membrane, slice and cook it! You can eat the whole middle, not just the white part. I fry it in butter, after salting generously and adding pepper to it. Yum! It's my favorite mushroom. If you ask what you can do with the jelly, you can use it as a mask for your face, apply on burns and you can store it in the fridge or even freeze like ice cubes.
I ate the stem of the stink horn many years ago after pulling it from the egg, I fried it, it was crunchy and delicious, I had very deep dreams of the forest and a stag, quite profound and nature connecting, a deeply sensual mushroom.
Now I can say that I've heard someone talk about a mushroom while looking at the top of his head and watching him wave it vaguely about, somewhere south of the camera. But you looked like you were having a lovely time.
In German, we call this the Gemeine Stinkmorchel (common stinking morel) and the juvenile form shown (and eaten) we call the witch's egg. It was the fungus of the year in 2020.
Hello!! I had a nibble on one of these on Sunday! Been on a couple of your foraging courses in the last year. I wouldnt have eaten stinkhorn egg if it wasn’t for you guys! Simply tasted of radish, surprising considering how awful it smelled! 🤣👍
J583 Because it looks like an erect human penis. I know this because I got way too many of these things growing in my front lawn and I decided to do research on how to eradicate them.
@@TheNeXusCore9032 by the end of the day they look like victims of erectile dysfunction. I've got these stinkers all over my garden beds - they are GROSS!
in my (absolutely non-expert) opiniom it's probably because of the jelly (and potentially the spores) that you see when you cut it open. i think it's easier to confuse young puffballs with young amanitas as they really look fairly similiar
You cannot confise it with the death cap , as the death cap has a skirt. The stinkhorn in its egg state is jelly-like. Even when the membrane covers it, you can still feel the jelly. If you see a stinkhorn that cas come out of the egg, chances are there are eggs nearby. They like really cushioned terrain and they peak out just a bit. What he picked was already considered an old egg, preparing to come out.

What do you mean? Did you become a stag in the dream?
@@jidoorifalcon in a sense all creatures in our dreams may be aspects of ourselves, but in this case the stag was a seperate entity in the dream.
thanks for letting me know im not going to die.

You are a brave man than I.
In parts of Europe the stipe is eaten too ...
The grown version is a delicacy in Asia, it’s delicious.
Different species
I wonder how it got its name.

I have never once had anyone complain after eating my amanita pie.
This is not amanita, this is a stinkhorn egg.
😂
How can you be sure it isn't a young amanita ?
I never eat mushrooms raw these days, but I seem to recall supermarket agaricus tasting radishy....

I’ve watched loads of your videos and there so good... but I wish you would use a microphone with your camera.
Charles Darwin had a third cousin who would be up before dawn in season to destroy all the stinkhorns "lest they corrupt the servants"
I get them every year in my garden, you smell the stink before you find it.
To be clear, the mushroom is only considered food when no other food is available.
It's considered a delicacy lmao. Unless you're an expert, don't go mushroom picking
