    Spot on wes, it's sometimes the overlooked strategy that cost us failure.

    Good stuff Wes. I added a new wildlife pond this year and it’s been active. We need the rain! I am waiting before broadcasting rye and oats! Good luck!

      Great year to add a pond, I’m
      Sure that has been a great asset to your farm. Looks like we have something brewing down in the tropics that might change our rainfall outlook. Thanks for watching

    Thanks for the great tips Wes! Brother, it has been hot and dry here too. I have gotten 1.1 inches of rain over the past 14 weeks and everything is burning up. We will not have a Fall this year because most of the trees are shedding leaves now.
    We are expecting between 1/4 to 1/2 inches of rain later this coming week and nothing more in the foreseeable future, so I will be holding off again this year before planting Fall food plots.

    Good comments Wes.....I believe the water is most important as the crops dry out and then the movement of the bucks pick up with pre rut and rut. You are correct the deer avoid the beans as they start to dry out and turn bitter to their taste. Once they dry out completely they will start to eat them again. Our deer are currently targeting our clover and alfalfa, and will continue to during our early bow season, just our thoughts and observations. Bob

    I agree that having a fresh water drinking source, does work, for drawing game/deer, EVEN on smaller pieces of Land. 👍🏼🤝🏼Great info Wess! Now we reap, all the hard work that we put out all Summer. Here in N. Florida, pretty much, most all Hunting season opens up in September😁👍🏼❗ My 16yo Son and I have about 6 new plots to hunt this year.
    3 new deer plots
    2 new duck plots/ ponds
    1 new dove field
    *All under 1.5 Acres (small)
    But we worked our butts off and it's going to be a Great Hunting season! Good luck to you Wess and All my fellow hunters🤝🏼👍🏼❗God bless 🇺🇸 Sorry, I'm a little excited😁

    Drought really starting to set in here in southern Michigan. Another week of no rain and 90s coming. My plots are struggling to stay alive. Bad EHD outbreak here also. 😢 Looks like it’s going to set us back a couple of years at least.

      Man!! I’m so sorry to hear that! I’ve been holding my breath here lately thinking about ehd. We had some isolated places last year, but any at all is too many. Wish yall well and hope the herd recovers quickly. Thanks for watching

    Ok Plot Professor, just wondering if all that really matters if you hunt "travel corridors" rather than right over specific food or water sources? Just catch them going and coming to whatever source the deer are using. This all wrong or just as good??

    • @DIYfoodplotpro
      @DIYfoodplotpro  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes sir I believe it matters, even when hunting travel corridors you have to know where the deer are feeding in order to get in the middle. Good luck and thanks for watching

    Hi Wes, just need your advice on my situation. I have a 30 acre woods and their is a 20 acre woods connected to mine and they bait deer in that woods. And to the south of my woods, just off my property, another group baits out in the field trying to lure deer off my property. In the center of my woods close to bedding, I planted an 1/8th to 1/4 of an acre whitetail imperial oats plus food plot. I have my stands 70 yards away from food plot in both directions and my thinking is they will stage in the plot and make their way to ag fields as it gets closer to dark. Am I taking the right approach or should I be dumping corn piles as well since the neighbors are. Does bait piles trump my food plot? Not sure if I should be baiting or strictly just plant the food plot. Just curious how you would handle this situation. Thanks

      @DIYfoodplotpro  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      In my opinion it would be hard to not bait in that scenario. They will 100% go to the corn piles as well as the oats. The option is up to you, but in my opinion a bait pile in a food plot is a big plus.

    • @craigwagner327
      @craigwagner327 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @DIYfoodplotpro ok. I put a bait pile out. Not right in the food plot but about 100 yards from it

    • @craigwagner327
      @craigwagner327 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @DIYfoodplotpro I'm trying to not hunt right on the bait piles. I'm about 50 to 60 yards off piles trying to catch them coming to pile and I scattered the corn so it is not all on a pile

      When you bait I assume you use a cellular trail camera. What setting do you put your trigger delay on? Mine is on 30 seconds
