Hey! That’s my old “A Nightmare on Elm Street” Klik ‘N Play game shown around the 0:52 mark. I made edgy games too! 🤣 Those were special times in the late 90s. Being a teen.. desperately wanting to make games with next to no coding experience. My games had a little cult following (the internet was a smaller place back then lol). I recently got super nostalgic for my KNP slasher games that I learned how to code for the Nintendo Entertainment System and demade all 4 games as NES roms that you can download and play for free. Jason, Michael, Freddy, and Candyman. It was fun going back and trying to remember what I crammed into these games and making it work for the NES. Porting these was a great exercise to build my knowledge in 6502 Assembly (NES programming language). But KNP will always have a special place in my heart. I’ll never forget all the websites and aol newsgroups filled with peoples KNP games they made. Simpler times! Thanks for taking me back.
Oh nice! I used to download loads of those Klik and Play games but when I went back to do some research for this video I could hardly find any of them. Not surprising really but it'd be nice if there were an archive for these things. All creative projects are worth saving somewhere.
@@davidfirth It is for sure hard to find them. There was a website I would go to about 7-10 years ago called the “Klik museum” .. “Klik archive” or something similar that had tons of KNP games. But that was only the tip of the iceberg. Wish I was smart back then and backed up everything like i obsessively do now.
@@Djboi89 TH-cam keeps deleting my comment because it thinks I’m spamming. How can I word this? Possibly ..My channel bio is the source to find the KNP & NES versions? Crossing fingers it doesn’t delete again 😁
Ooh "A Nightmare on Elm Street" was one of my childhood games! I thoroughly enjoyed it as a 12yo and remember getting the "crappy" ending during my first attempt and not realising what that word meant 😂 I still remember the rooms and the steps of the game quite vividly, thank you for making it!
Mind blown that Mel Gibsons safari and the washing machine emulator we’re real games. You are internet royalty. Can’t wait for The Milkman (the game) to come out
Yeah, that's some insane David Firth lore.
More Urban straight-line missions please ❤
Geowizard's 16-bit music would lend itself to the milkman probably
Oh hello there, speaking of your music GeoWizard, what do you use to emulate the master system YM chip? I used to use a yamaha keyboard in the past that is now broken but I assume a VST is far more sensible.
*Mel Gibsons safari 3
I’d kill for a point and click adventure game set in the Salad Fingers universe.
SOMEONE MAKE IT HAPPEN NOW
That was a thing, though
Already happened
Yes! It could be a mystery adventure game where you could hunt for rusty spoons!
dude hell yeah
I just wanna say thanks for putting Boards of Canada in Salad Fingers. It changed my life, no joke. Got me into electronic music and now here I am, my entire life revolves around synths, building them, selling them, playing them... thank you

There is something so completely unique about David's kind of creativity that I just love with a passion.
He's keeping the 90s Gothy Grunge alive.
What a freakin creative genius he is! It's nice to check out his stuff once again.
100% agree.
It is not edgy at all, but super creative
It’s creepy to me
having a friend you can riff ideas with is honestly so important
I hope to find one too. My artist side needs a passionate and energetic environment that I was unable to find yet.
David and Christian combine in the most hilarious way. Loved pretty much everything they've done from the cartoons, waller FM, devvo, and even the indie rock band
South Park (Back when it was good, anyway).
It really is. Otherwise it's hard to develop or even have motivation for the craft.

A lot of artists and companies could save themselves a lot of trouble if they took this to heart. No PR can be good PR.
I wouldnt mind more "youtuber" videos like this. After 2 decades, I think we all want to get to know a bit more about the man "behind the camera"
Same I wouldn't even mind hearing his views on things happening in real life. He's always been an interesting bloke. :-D
@@reddragon4482 he won't say a word, have you ever watched his streams? Every creator should maintain an air of mystery and privacy.
I was thinking the same! I really enjoyed listening to his voice and hear about his childhood
Yes!!!!
I was about to say.. I’ve been following this dude since I was probably 12 and I’m almost 30 now. I haven’t heard anything like this from him before. Low key guy. Him working with flying lotus and doing animation for the Kuso movie was unexpected. I love things like this to put some emotion behind a creator
i genuinely love the concept of jerry jackson lands and it would be super cool if it was a full game thing
Ya mum would love that
Hearing David speak normally feels like I entered an alternate timeline
Honestly just sounds like another one of his characters to me.
The timeline where Salad Fingers is a game instead of a flash cartoon.
I mean there easily could’ve been a salad fingers game where you collect spoons or something.
@rebelroar78 Or you could play as one of the finger puppets, like trying to get off his fingers maybe.
Its actually insane how creative this guy was being in his childhood already
teenagehood* ☝️🤓
So cool seeing all these guys living their lives after Newgrounds. Felt like such a cool little small community back then. Now we all in our 30's chillin
I think David's about 40 now, actually.
Im pretty younger than you guys but I also remember playing those games when I was young, Yall remember the Madness series? That was the shit.
@@syncaudio2758I think the guy who makes/made the Madness series still makes those. I think he's working on a big Madness game currently iirc.
I’m a 05 but absolutely loved new grounds and computer games period back then❤.
I remember finding that fantastic little hellhole in 2004 when i was like 5 or 6 and never left 😂
Meadow Man was a mad mystic memory of a miserable monk.
This is kind of blowing my mind. The "Mel Gibson" quote at 4:51 I have heard before, even though I've never heard of any of these games in the video. It was at the beginning of the Cheetahmen 2 video by The Adventures of Duane and BrandO. That's crazy that this is the origin of that very hard to understand voice clip. I've wondered what the heck that clip was for over a decade now.
love the raw intimacy. nothing showy or flashy, just a friend going on a nostalgic rant without much regard whether we care or not
Been a fan since 2004 and this was a fantastic look into your young creative brain. Would love to see more informal content like this.
Honestly it's crazy how relatable this is, and I love seeing all the little projects artists have done along the way.
Does anyone else find comfort in the surreal chaos? Maybe its just because i grew up watching firth's cartoons but everything is so charming and familiar in a fever dream type of way.
Reminds me of simpler times like the demented cartoon movie
I find the repetitive, algorhythm based trends of today far more menacing than whatever this is. Now everything is too polished, and has fake smiles everywhere. It feels sterile.
@@KINKYmustache Thanks to "community standards" even user-generated content is like that. It's creepy.
yeah, especially because his animations feel like dreams. the complete non-sensicalness somewhat sedates my mind from being constantly alert for real-life connections
I think I know what you're talking about, if you look at some of PilotRedSun's videos along with their music, it gives off a similar feeling (at least to me). The unexplained surreal nature of it all, combined with the nostalgic music creates comfort contrasting with the video, which again is surreal, unexplained, and at times, as you described, chaotic
But I don't really know anything and I'm just rambling.
WOW! An actual TH-camr style video! And about game development? So exited!
Bro I'm blown away! I've seen interviews (huha heroes of animation) and just about all his work but this is well and truly new territory. So excited for more
Lmao i was about to comment the same thing!
Right? I was thinking that too. Would love to hear more of his artistic process like this - He’s got such a creative and interesting mind.
Times change and early internet days are gone
That Jerry Jackson game... I've never wanted something so bad.
You are my favourite artist rn. Between the artwork, animation, music, WallerFm, and now games it seems like you’ve tried your hand at everything.
I’m blown away by how creative you are, you were at it even as a teenager
*Even?* Idk. I feel like when we are young, that can be some of our most creative years. Sure, the talent gets better, but creativity sometimes changes
When I was a kid I used to make flash movies, rpgs in rpg maker, drew, painted, sculpted - now all I do is work shit and sleep and hate everything
@@MasDoucbro same,

the reference to “the meadowman” put such a big smile on my face . Can’t wait to see if these projects come to fruition and will absolutely be there when they do
I could hardly believe that he alluded to the meadow man so casually after avoiding the subject for so many years. I wonder if we'll ever get to see it
@@SgtZook he definitively alluded to the Meadow Man at the end. But was talking about how he regrets announcing it in the first place. So the project is most surely abandoned

i've been documenting your lost media for a long time and it is absolutely wonderful to finally get insight into why so much of your oldest stuff is deliberately lost, being only in your possession. it's also great to get context for things like john 64, context that was previously also lost until you released this video
Just went through 20 years of my own art last night and am delighted to stumble across this today. Thanks for sharing, David, and your contributions to this world of FILTH and SMUT!
Video Games, as far as I'm concerned, are still magical.
How a group of advanced apes come along and make singular pieces of beautiful art is magic.

"My urge to create was always greater than my urge to consume" mine used to be as a kid too, but it switched somehow. I have no idea how to get that back its so depressing.
I'm so happy to hear more about your life and inspiration. You have always been a huge influence on my creativity. I have really bad panic disorder, and just realized last year that I can animate by myself without anyone helping me or saying that I can. I don't know why I listened to the people who put me down, but I'm finally taking steps to work more on what I really want to make.
This whole video is like Christmas morning to me. My jaw dropped at the idea of the Jerry Jackson game. I don't care if you finish it, but just watching the gameplay was a magical experience. I also just love hearing your voice.
Great stuff! Klik n Play was my gateway in to making games from "scratch" too! I do it professionally now, but it took over 20 years for that shift to happen.
I see them as legends among your amazing portfolio, I find the early stuff hilarious especially the chav characters were funny. All your animations to present day are gold
I was literally just thinking about David the other day and wondering what he’s been up to. Just when he’s needed most, he returns.
Seek him, and he will congeal
Oh my God I'm so glad you're still making videos! You're one of my biggest fiction inspirations you have no idea.
Yeah, the other day I saw some art from an ex fellow student, I said that it looked like "early David Firth" and she replied: absolutely.

David, you’re one the main influences in my high school years that helped propel to making video games today. You’re genius ability to create eerie but cozy spaces with your work was such an inspiration
My brother and i bonded over watching your videos since 2004. Your humor and art influenced us at a formative time, it resonated with us heavily and we still find joy in your works together, send each other the news when something of yours gets released. Thanks for all that, mr Firth.

its edgy and often disturbing material growing up, but it always inspired my curiosity and made me feel like what i was about to watch was completely unpredictable and often deep and impactful sometimes just as it is on its own, and im always excited about your work. Your content has blossomed and so much of it has a deep place in my heart. Gotta shout out waller fm if its not too out of place if i can, hardest ive ever laughed, just gotta recommend anyone who wants to hear something incredibly unique of Davids, its cheered me up many times and im truly grateful!
To be honest, I’d listen to David explain anything documentary style like this.
I remember playing a few of these as a kid
Feels so fresh to hear david in long form talking about his peojects
i want more videos of david just talking abt smth, i rlly enjoy listening to him
I had The Games Factory as a kid, could never get my head around it sadly. But I did have and absolutely loved "Shoot Em Up Construction Kit" for the Commodore 64 and later the Amiga.
Though my games seemed to be about policemen going on rampages against hoards of grannies :S
On the Amiga I created an animated Apache helicopter in AMOS and a recreation of Dundee FC's Dens Park stadium in Deluxe Paint III, then I gave up when I couldn't figure out how to import my stadium into AMOS nor come up with a game plot involving a football stadium and a helicopter gunship.

Clickteam here, Loved the video and glad we where able to contribute to your Teen Edgelord phase. Let us know how the current projects go, Maybe we can help you get them on console should you get them finished!
This was quite a relateable nostalgia trip. I was determined to be a computer game designer when I was around 10. I wasn't so much into the gore and profanity though, I wanted to make things as bizzare and detailed as possible. My ambition ever outstripped my desire to finish a project though. Still does most of the time. I think the trick is to do as many projects as possible thereby ensuring at least one of them will get finished enough to release.
It's so weird to see a video from your channel. I've been thinking about Salad Fingers a lot, lately. I obsessed over those videos, nearly 20 years ago. This is the first time anything of yours has been suggested to me in any time since, so of course I had to watch. Feels like catching up with an old friend. An old friend who tastes like sunshine dust.
It’s so good to hear your voice again David. I’ve been watching your stuff on and off since I was a teenager way back in 2004. Seeing some of those old clips is a real blast of nostalgia for me, I even remember Jim’s story which I believe was one of your first cartoons. Anyway I hope life has treated you well and brings you lots of happiness. All the best from an old fan 👍
Thanks for sharing! Great to see your roots!
Wow...i was totally obsessed with flash animation back in the mid 2000s, including mr firths fine productions, but I haven't thought about that stuff in like 15 years. Im so happy youtube sent me this, and thst this guy's still out here making stuff!
After NEARLY TWENTY YEARS of watching your stuff, this is the most surreal thing you've ever made.
Love it. Thanks pal
The one element missing from my "I know absurd amounts of trivia about David Firth" was the early video games, and now here they all are in glorious detail. A feeling of completeness immensifies.
Your love for creating is just awe-inspiring.
Thank you for making this! It’s awesome to hear Buck’s good values and thank you for spreading the word on that
Love your passion and creativity in all you do. Really cool to see these old games expanding my knowledge of the Firth-a-verse even further!

You're such an artist, you can tell me you wrote a screen play and i wouldn't be surprised
I, for one, am happy to learn he's apparently just always been like this. Glad he matured past needless edge and just makes bizzare art with surprisingly deep meaning. I first found Salad Fingers about 18 years ago on newgrounds when I was like 12 and have been a fan since. I love the uncomfortable surrealism and macabre humor in David's work, it's been an inspiration to me as an artist myself. I just love creepy shit lmao.
