42 yo American myself. I've been a soccer fan for the last three years. Took the plunge fully within the past six months or so and I don't even watch any of the four major American sports now. I love football/soccer more than anything else basically.
This video doesn't show it, but the U.K. has different leagues for its four Home Countries, with the Premier League being primarily English, although a few Welsh teams do play in the English system.
Swansea Cardiff Newport(where I'm from) and Wrexam the only one to play semi pro

Only 32 teams for champions league? It's much more than that. There are 22 teams who qualify directly to the round of 32 while five teams who finished in the final qualifying place from the top fifteen associations qualify as well as five champions of leagues rated so low they don't qualify automatically. So there's about 50 or so teams that have a shot at European glory while only 32 start in the group stage!!! Similar concept of Europa league except there's 48 teams at the group stage.
Also at various points in the champions league teams can crash down to the Europa league instead of getting the boot completely. Complicated? Yes very.

PL is the best league? Ever had a look on the UEFA coefficient lately? La Liga is dominating for years already. Just take last year's European Cup finals. 3 out of 4 teams came from Spain.

That league is becoming crazy, with great goals and so-called "legends" who've forgotten how to defend properly. You simply can't predict with any degree of certainty who will win a game ... It's great fun!

Yeah, it is true that, once broken down, the myth of an egalitarian EPL vs unequal La Liga starts becoming false. I mean, there aren't all that many teams at the top in the EPL. It's always MC, MU, Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham and Arsenal and virtually no one else. Against Real, Barca, Atletico, Seville, Valencia, and we can also add Bilbao and Espanyol, it's not all that different. I still prefer the EPL though. For some reason it just feels more alive than La Liga which I feel has stunted. I'm also tired of seeing Real and Barca win all the time.

Okay okay okay, I saw some comments asking why we get annoyed at it being referred to as soccer, so I'll say why. One: football, or "soccer" came first and therefore really has the right to be called football since they called it that first, Two: in "soccer" we actually use our foot. The foot is the main part of the game, you're literally kicking it around, in American Football they maybe kick it like once and then play like rugby, so we tend to get annoyed at the fact Americans call their sport football and ours soccer despite the fact "soccer" is more logically football. And yes, I already see it coming, yes we did make the word soccer, but the term soccer is used to refer to association football, in other words it's just a term to refer to a type of football, not the entire sport, and it was made literally as a shorter term of association football, so it's still called football. Anyway, I'm not bothered if you want to call it football or soccer, but that's why many will get annoyed

Champions League is during the week and League games are usually at the weekend. Only the final of the Champions League is at the weekend.
But beside that, there is also a cup in every nation. In England and France there is also a League cup. It's complicated to explain, but there are videos about it.
Yes, Real Madrid is the most successful team in Europe, but claiming they with Barcelona are the biggest is false. They are rich because they take 50% of the TV revenue which ends next year so are falsely wealthy and have massive debts. Man Utd and Liverpool are the biggest teams because they have the biggest fan bases globally. They Spanish giants only attract 50 million global viewers per game, the English teams get around 300 million so that shows the difference. Real and Barcelona promote themselves as biggest teams in the world by overspending to get many of the best and popular players to sell the myth they are bigger than everyone. So if you are new to the game or play FIFA who they pay to make them the best teams, you will think they are far bigger than any other teams. The truth is outside of the Latin world they are not as big as the English teams and actually earn less money than the English teams but because they take 50% of all the money in Spain that bankrupts other teams means Real and Barcelona are falsely rich.

It's fine to have a preference, but to say that another sport is "better" than another just because it's more popular...? The NFL is strict about keeping the sport in the US There is a reason the outside world doesn't care about American football because it's... only a thing in one country. Even with all things considered, 3 international games still happen each year and the seats get packed. About a month ago there was a game in Munich, toward the end the German fans started singing Country Roads in perfect English. Was quite a beautiful site, actually

EPL is not the best league. maybe the most competetive, the richest and probably the most watched league. but not the best in terms of the football played.

I, as a Canadian, where most people call it soccer... am still very annoyed that we don't call it Football. I mean.. it's just logical. Also, American (and Canadian) football barely use their foot a few times during the game. Would be better if American/Canadian football was called tackle ball or something along these lines, as there is far more tackling then kicking in the sport.
