Shame they've ditched I drive controller, I always applauded BMW for keeping it, I don't know how touch screens can be allowed, we can't have mobile phones and touching a screen is really the same!Great review and great reviewer.

The iDrive controller attracted criticism when first introduced. The touch screen facilitates added functionality. Use of either when driving is not ideal and should need little use if set up correctly or adjusted before starting journey.

@@grandiebob2500 for all the wrong reasons, i don't know what it was like
for you all there, but here in the US it was excellent.
some people just didn't like the way it looked, but that's why it's called idrive.
it's intelligent smart shifting, and when has BMW ever built a car that
they didn't know what they were doing.
now reliability is a different matter, but you would never confuse a BMW
for a Lexus or Toyota anyway.
i would say the new DCT is less reliable, than the outgoing idrive,
but some people may like it better, since it no longer looks like
a joystick. but that joystick was pretty reliable, though not at first,
but for how long they used it, the more you work at something,
the better it'll get long term. but now BMW is replacing much of the lineup
with DCT's, and dual clutch transmissions have always been clunky.
i don't think they wanted to change, but everybody is forced to play by
the EPA and the governments rules these days. atleast that's the way it is here, DCT's are more efficient than a step automatic,
      but they're not as reliable.

@@Jeymez That’s an interesting perspective. We’ve actually had this model for 18 months now (mild hybrid version). We’ve had many vehicles over our long life (70+ years) , including a number of BMW models. We’ve been very pleased with it. We upgraded to Driver Assist+ which is a very useful for longer trips. The switch to pure electric in the UK, if anything, is even more fraught than in the EU with a number of unintended consequences. These include an inadequate charging structure and the prospect of sharply priced competition from the Far East (eg MG, a loved UK heritage grand, now wholly Chinese owned). There has been one recall notice for our particular model X1 xdrive23i which may differ in spec from the US versions.

    • @Jeymez
      @Jeymez 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

@@grandiebob2500 yeah i do hear things like that, i can't comment about a place i don't live at, all i can give you, is what it was like here. there's always been some differences between the UK versions of cars from the US, and also from Europe itself to.
but to be honest, other than the drivers seat position and steering wheel,
the way the cars are designed and engineered, most likely comes down to,
the political system of the country you live in.
like here in the US, diesels are almost exclusively limited to super duty trucks.
Volkswagen has made a few in the past, but they were few and far between.
others aren't even allowed to make diesels, because they claim the diesel we use
      isn't very clean.
i don't know what the truth is, I've never been a fan of politics on either side of the aisle, because they both lie about things.
now im not completely against efficient vehicles, but i wish it didn't come
with the cost of reliability and strong quality care. I think the industry has strayed
too far from the days, you can call an auto transportation vehicle reliable.
everything is built for efficient standards,
so you just have to hope some makers still care about reliability and quality control.

I sat in one at a dealer and found that the armrest flips up using a hinge on the righthand side to allow a driver sitting in the left seat to easily see inside. However, it's near impossible for any driver to see inside it from the righthand seat without headbutting the passenger and I couldn't see any way to switch it over to a left-hand hinge to make it useable in a RHD car..

I like it. Even in the green (ok, I’m 63) and at least it doesn’t have a baby vomit interior. We have an X1 25d which I love other than road noise which is obtrusive especially on the dreadful concrete sections of the M25. Our recent 2,650 mile trip to Slovenia and back gave close to 50mpg but I don’t see great figures for the new range. The X1 to me is so much smaller than the X3 yet has very little less in terms of interior. On my list.

  • @gabrielg1001

Few things - X3 is smaller inside compared to X1 ,the seats of X3 are smaller than X1,the boot is the same, the height is 2cm higher, clearance is the same..its just wheelbase and overall length thats bigger and thats due to to inline engine placement.Yes comfort of X3 will always be better because of the wheel base and some suspension settings..but what does engaging means?
Is x3 20d engaging - not, lets not forget it depends on driver and what u look for.
X1 35i /40i will be the one to engage ;)

Oct 23 I live in North West Uk I've owned A BMW X1 2020 18i petrol 2 wheel drive (front only) with Sunroof M Sport for 2.5 yrs. This car come specced with M Sport Pro has mahoosive blue brakes and 19 inch wheels, sunroof and electro tail gate. Having owned 3 BMW over the years now BMW seem to pile on the electronic gadgets on newer cars obviously to sell them. The storage space on the newer version is about 40 ltrs more about one medium size suite case larger. I've previously taken 5 people including my self in my 2020 X1 version with admittedly 5 or 6 very large soft sided bags to the airport for a one week holiday abroad with out a real problem. Re two wheel drive my car is occasionally driven over rough muddy wet ground. The front two whee drive (remember) has the heavy engine over the front drive wheels that helps to press the weight down to pull the vehicle through snow or mud. Obviously the lack of four wheel drive on my X1 made it cheaper but I didn't really need a 4x4 that would be more expensive and slightly more expensive to run and not a feature I would want unless I lived in a very snowy or hilly area, which I get would be required. With Mocha leather heated seats adaptive cruise and comfort access the reversing camera is handy my X1 also has a self parallel park feature I don't even use. Why? Because by the time I've sat waiting trying to remember how to use it, a parking space has come free. Whether I would use a the other reverse parking (standard Car park type bay feature) If my car had it I don't know, probably not. This is is because I like to park my X1 in a space where people can get past a lot more easily and other car doors are less likely to be opened in a car park damaging a car door. Also because any car parked in a supermarket is likely to get struck by a loose or careless shopping trolley I tend to be careful where I park the reversing camera makes it easy. With a sunroof, a very large touch screen (we don't use the touch part often) preferring the idrive scroller which to my mind is great. MY wife loves this car.

How’s the cabin noise? (Db levels)? We could hear the road noises quite clearly… have watched a few TH-cam reviews and in all of them it sounds loud… I had the old X1 and it was loud on UK roads… was hoping new version was quieter. Great video that helped me decide to get the new X1. Currently have a Mercedes GLC which is a good car but after 2 years ownership is just a little too long for me and the ‘crabbing’ doesn’t engender confidence in the chassis/suspension design. Dont have to take my eyes off the road to navigate or it is a glance if i do. It is a huge loss taking it away and now the centre of this car has a horrible open bucket to collect dust in. As always, great review Trish. BMW are doing what many Companies do. In the world of chocolate bars, they are getting smaller, at same or more cost. While vehicle manufacturers, like BMW with the new X1 is becoming the original X3 in size, X3 into the X5 size and so, on. Chocolate companies charging more for less, but unlike chocolate bars, Vehicles are getting bigger (Or is that because people like me in UK are getting bigger as eating more chocolate bars!) and charging customers more for it.
Some love, some dislike, some are apathetic towards BMW's. Personally, with many makes, models and types of vehicle driven, 'you always know when you are driving a BMW'. This is because of the safe feeling you gain from the BMW brand when driving (Along with a good set of premium manufacturers tyres) as ultimately, 'that is what family cars should all be about'?

Its not OK, at all, it looks awful.
It didn't need to be any bigger.
Don't like the floating console, or why do they have to have the triangle etching, to me it looks fussy.
The green paint is OK, I wouldn't spec it.
I think by the time its spec'd to a decent standard it'll be massively expensive.

Sorry bmw not liking this 3rd gen. Being an owner of the 1st gen, I can't seem to get it: lack of fog lights, funky gear shifter, why didn't she try to put the back windows all the way down, that itty bitty 3 cylinder engine. Nope! It seems bmw further cheapified the x1.

Personally, I would steer clear from any German vehicle especially from Audi, BMW and Mercedes. Way too many issues are being reported by people with new cars. I have an Audi 2020 S Line with 5900 miles on metre and it requires a new gearbox already! Expensive to maintain and horrible reliability with numerous unnecessary electronics crammed into the cars!

I don't get it. Big, ugly, not reliable and totally overpriced (you pay for the name, not for value for money). How the hell can this be ecological when you actually drive an armoire on wheels with the aerodynamics of a massive wall. It's loaded with useless crap that most drivers don't even use but love to brag about having it. In short, premium is for people with ego problems.
