Great job man , I’ve practiced this for 11years and I still enjoy it, looking forward to seeing the dimple ports done, I normally use paraffin oil to keep the tools from clogging up and it’s works much faster
So glad Brent said what your TH-cam channel was Phong and I definitely plan on seeing what content you have on your truck and loving the porting video ✌🏼💚😷
Hello Phong! Remember you talking about porting job when you visited PFI and said something about how to shape the ports and make them perform well without access to a flowbench. Just wish I remembered exactly how you said to do it. Well, you are one of those people with the 'feel' on how to do such things and its nice of you to share how to. Looking forward to see 'dimple' part!
Thank you Phong for the lesson... I was also porting my K24 head... glad to know I can shave the guides down just a little. Also thank you for the ECU.
Great video Phong, thank you! P.S. Good choice of goggles. I was porting a cast iron head several years back and I was wearing regular old safety glasses. Bad choice on my part, a piece of cast iron flew up, ricocheted off my cheek, and stuck in my eyeball. After that experience, I wore full goggles like you are using.
Nice job on the K series head , that's absolutely perfect and beautiful!! Gonna do the same to my Saturn S Series and run dual intake cams and 14-15 PSI of boost at .20 over. :)
So many times when folks get head issues, it turns out to be keepers, (collets in UK). Fascinating look at lapping out the channels though, great cam work, that must be frustrating when you are concentrating on getting a smooth finish, before shining it. Cool stuff to watch, thanks :)
There is a product made by Orlube for Boeing called Boelube..They make a soft, medium, firm carbide bur and mill bit dip, keeps the double cuts from loading up and any bit u put it on it keeps the bit sharper longer..Boelube 70302 is the softest dip.. Also for combustion chamber use a little Tap Magic Aluminum..It is made by Tap Magic and is a drilling and milling lube that keeps the bits sharp and won't let the bits hop on the surface..
Great job Phong. Love watching and learning from your videos. I ported my head and am looking forward to your video of how to dimple it. Great channel dude. Keep it coming! : )
I've always put the intake gasket on the head and get it lined up correctly then take a marker and color in the surface inside the gasket and do the same to the intake so you'll know the intake, gasket, and head are all perfectly matched so there isn't a big lip at the gasket between the head and intake
I have a 04 k24 head that I'm going to be porting in the next week or so, never done porting before and it's basically the worst k24 head so I figure it will be good to learn on.
How do you know what your heads are flowing and if you took the material out in the right spots to make more horsepower where are you coming up with your measurements?
I always lap the valves not directly to the drill.. but with a piece of fuel hose in between. That way you get even pressure on the stem. Also a good measure for checking the valves seating is colour it with a whiteboard pencil and then lap it.. that way you can visually see the parts that dont seal or bent valve. No 3 angle valve job on this one Phong? Awesome job, takes forever to do that stuff.👏
It was Phong Built headers on The Batrod that got Brent from PFI Speed the win at the Summit Racing Burnout Rivals. At least 2 feet of that 7ft trophy belongs to Phong!
Nice work, but do you use templates to gauge the ports at certain distance that they are all equally shaped, and do you measure the port volume for consistency? Or do you just go by feel and eyeballing it? You would gain 15-25% of flow on low valve lifts by cutting radius valve seats.
I am porting m k24a2 RBB head for turbo use and am wondering about your valve guides. It appears you have cut them off. I have never seen this. I typically see porting around them making a knife edge in the front then smoothing them out. My concern is that it will destabilize the valve because it cuts the contact area in half . If it is okay and does not negatively impact them I would cut them off like you did. Also what are your guides made of? They look silver. I believe mine are brass/ bronze. I have cleaned up ports before but I have never done a serious porting job. My first intake, exhaust and combustion chamber took a long time and is a lot rougher looking than yours. All I have is short bits and I have no sanding bits yet. I have watched numerous porting vids but getting your hands on the tool and doing it is very different. I am going to keep at it. This will be a turbo build (gt3582r) so I am not too worried about messing it up losing velocity etc. If I were going all motor I probably would not be doing this. Thanks for your time.
Question dudes! If you were to port and polish a stock head would the ecu correct for changes? New to the performance game but can turn wrenches like many diy folks. Would a person see a noticeable performance gain on a stock engine?
Great job on the porting look amazing continue push true, God bless you and your family.
Thanks 👍

Did you tune it after porting? Any result?🙂
thank you for sharing your knowledge and skill, great to watch you work Phong!
That porting job looks Phongtastic.
Awsome video mate hello from Rotorua New Zealand
Awesome work Phong
Great video Phong, thank you!

Good job phong! Looks great. Can’t wait to see the dimple process! Let’s rock!!
Just a quick tip spray WD-40 on the carbide bit every once in awhile and it also stop them from clogging up
And I think left and right if remember correctly 👍
Or regular cutting oil
Varsol is also good too.
Ordinary bar soap works the best , just run the bit ove the soap couple times and your good to go , have done many heads and intakes
@@prostreetdino7946 sounds legit
Awesome can't wait to see the finished product 🤙

Good Job Phong, hope the video brings in more business because your porting looks top quality.
Very interesting to see you port the head. Thanks. Phil
holy hell K series ports are crazy big
Phongs Unknown Journey, I've always wanted to port a head so these videos will be a great guide 👌
Can't wait to watch!
Great video man those intake runners look great you do very nice work man Glade your on TH-cam you have alot of knowlage to give

Amazing! Thanks for sharing your knowledge, man!
Good job! But I'm not sure cut the valve guide for exhaust side is good idea 👍🏻
Wow that’s so magnificent very nice work phong shiny squeaky clean ready to rock n roll keep pushing the content I enjoy the videos
Phong keep it up! I love the budget horsepower!
Hell yeah Rock on keep up the good work brother
THANKS broo nice Sharing...
Looking good mr. phong!
I was hoping you would upload something like this 💯👍 thanks
This is amazing. Very few people port 4V cylinder heads.
you grinded off the valve guide?
Your videos just keep getting better! Great work Phong I am glad I subscribed
Great job Phong!
Nice job
This is like watching Picasso explain how he gets the right color & consistency in his paints.
Cant wait till your car runs. Its gonna be a monster!!! Keep it up Phong!
This channel is going to blow up
Hope you come back soon Phong! You are truly missed!
Great job!
i also cut my valve guide still running good after 5-6years..ssssstututu

God bless you phong! You're the best kept secret on youtube!
Aaaaaaaggggggghhhhhhh. That sound reminds me of the dentist drill. My whole body clinched as soon as I heard that sound.
I would love to do this on my Suzuki k10A head.
Good job
Thank you sir
Keep it up brother!
That's nice of corliss to let you use his drill

Fantastic work
There's only 2 k-series head porting videos on youtube ...much needed..
Cool stuff Man shame so far away 👍
What type of flow bench did you use. What throat percentages do you aim for? What size is your mcsa and where did you locate it?
Nicely done, phong !👍 This is something I need to try for myself. I'm working on turbocharging a 4g15 and need the air to flow much better.
VERY informative video Phong! Looking forward to your 'Dimpling' follow up. Do you lap in the New valves before final assembly?
Yes I do!
@@402motorsports4 Thanks, jist checking! ...I do the same, haha

Awesome job, takes forever to do that stuff.👏
I've always taken a pice of 3/8 fuel line and clamp it to a drill bit then you can slide it in the valve and lap away
Love it Phong, ur a true artist and Diy professional. Admire ur passion as well, wish very big thing to happen for u.
Thank you so much phong
Phong your a beast
is it safe to grind down the valve guide?
Were theses heads flowbenched? If so, what are the numbers. Thank you.

You do professionally? How to reach you?
Phong, do you think dimple Porting would have a benefit on a single cylinder Honda engine?
Do you know how much i can resurface k24a3/2 head? If I will use high compression ferrea flat valves? Thank you in advance for your answer.

Hey guy is this on K20z3 head? thank3! I have a 2010 honda civic fA5 and think of porting the head but i hear they have wicked flow alread...
I took the bottom hump down on the intake side Towards the end of the valve Do you think this can hurt?
Im a new subscriber....so happy to of finally found out Phong has a youtube channel
I need my head port

Airflow numbers before and after porting? At multiple valve lifts?

Your crazy brother, id never think to flat deck the vlave guide! Imma do that on my next head build fo sho
May effect stability ? And definitely will accelerate guide wear
He dont mention using the reamer after to remove the sharp edge he created grinding the guide.if you leave it sharp it will damage the valve stem
@@pacific7775 grinding the guide is the area in the port that gains the most flow
On a street head you dont remove as much
Phong that looks a sweet porting job. Do you do motorcycle engine porting too ?
yes, I'm ports motorcycle cylinder head too!!!!!
Back then on pfi channel phong used to talked about he raced motorcyle back in the days.
is this for the tube frame car?
yessss!!!!
Do a video on those j series heads for brent I love porting won many races kart racing with ported heads and homebuilt intakes
Fantastic content
LOOKS NICE
