    Well, just started with Planet Zoo a few days ago and played around with all the stuff you can build... and then there's the gizmo tool... as a 3d modeler and sculpter this is the point when your first thoughts are: " Ok, here we go...you left the gizmo tool in the game that's it creativity mode activated" :D

    Wow, I didn't know you could manipulate things in photoshop and add them to the game. This is incredible

    And again a magnificent enclosure!!! The work with Photoshop, the billboards and the "eggs" really paid off, it looks so realistic:D I also like the color of the water, nice greenish touch. If I were an otter, I would love to live in there!

    This series is exactly the reason why I love Planet Zoo! How realistic are you planing on building this zoo? Are there going to be research centres/labs/clinic/...?

    I think even the custom asset makes the billboard texture pops more to trick eye at the underwater level

    What do you do with the habitat once you've finished it? Do you save the whole thing as a blueprint to use later?

    I really have to take a look at the egg when I am in Planet zoo next time.

    Tesselation would require a complete rework of their rendering engine. Not sure they would spend the resources on it. On top of that, Tesselation is rather QUITE expensive in general compared to just utilizing a traditional Normal Map. Even in an Engine like Unreal, it runs to performant for my games to handle in large scale. Personally I think what their engine needs to do, is when you create a blueprint it bakes down the meshes into a single actor, no longer able to be separated.
    Beautiful build by the way. Your stuff made me want to get even more creative for my daughter to walk around in.

    • @RudiRennkamel
      @RudiRennkamel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually I exaclty said that "baking" already in the Planet Coaster days. With the addition, that the original file could be stored as seperate file, that is not rendered. So if you want to access it again, it would need to load in the data first. But this step would be so much better than having to deal with that insane lag haha.
      But still, a normal map would be neat haha

      @@RudiRennkamel One of the tricks I have seen at some studios is to build an external merge/bake tool. Basically it would function like a level editor in an RTS but once your done, it booleans/bakes the meshes together deleteing geo that is hidden and you have a much cheaper baseline mesh. The major issue they have, I suspect, is they weren't expecting people to put meshes under the world to the degree people do. Let's take the rocks as an example, if you put 95% of the mesh under the terrain it will still render the whole mesh which look pretty vertex dense. That means that performance wise, your never really solve the issue. A lot of companies will have visual culling, so placing objects in front of others, to mitigate some of this but while playing it doesn't really feel like they did that.

    To be frank I've got doubts when you used ice in the slide build, but it turned out extremely good!

    Love the video, but I do have a question. How do you change the direction the roof files were going while still building in a group? If I want to change the direction, I have to start a new group and then try to align the two groups and it's just super frustrating. I would love to know how you did this.

    • @RudiRennkamel
      @RudiRennkamel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I´m not quite sure what you mean exaclty :-) Here to help, but I need to unnaaastaaaaand :P

    • @MrsSalty-dd8th
      @MrsSalty-dd8th 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RudiRennkamel I'm trying to figure out the best way to explain it. While in a group build edit you had your roof pieces go 45 degrees instead of the 90 degrees. Does that help? Although thinking about it you may not use degrees.
