You have sold me on building my first rc boat . I’ve been flying fixed wings , helicopters , and drones for roughly $5,000 and love flying , it’s that landing part that continues to cost more and more as time goes bye . I’m now get much more flying time for my money spent by landing successfully. Boats have a special place in my life considering I live right next to Buckeye lake. Your gonna love rc boats, there fun to run cheap to maintain and maintenance is a peace of cake. Usually you don't crash them quite as much as an airplane, unless your BIG B. LOL.

Bought a $40 12" Ranfly on Amazon a couple weeks ago to get a taste for it cheap, figured if I wasn't feeling it I'd just give it to a friend who has a 9 year old son. Couldn't believe how much fun I had and how much I instantly enjoyed it! Been researching boats ever since and found your channel. Pulling the trigger next week on the Shreddy variant of the Recoil 2. That's the boat that called to me most within my budget, it's RTR, a good size, good speed, good components, looks shweet as all getout and it's self righting so it ticked all the boxes for a greenhorn like me. Plus I already have the 3S Spektrum Smart batteries it takes as well as the Spektrum S155 Smart Charger, picked both up when I scored an Arrma Vorteks. Absolutely cannot wait to get this ProBoat. Last hull I built was an ml boat works. I got out of boats a few years back, but I always prefer deep v hulls because it’s usually choppy here in New England

I am thinking about making a boat from scratch for fun, and I want to carry it on my back on a bike ride to the sea near where I live (the sea area is relatively calm behind tetrapods). It looks like a mono-hull would be best to cope with waves. Also, I want to have a boat that gives me the most fun to operate. Before I constructed a trimaran sail boat but it was a bit of a disappointment.
Just got a pro boat Veles 29 and this is my first real boat put a water pump in it to keep the motor cool because I’m running it on 6s. Wanted to ask about strut adjustment and props sizes. Thanks so much love you videos.

Yea I know a couple guys that bought the ul 19 as a first boat. Your gonna love it. Run it on 4s until you get the 2nd cooling run. It's an awesome boat, watch Temps with stock esc. You've been in the hobby so you know the deal flying basically carrys over to boating
@@IRONCLADRC Yes sir I got 2 new packs for it both 2s 9000mAh 120c. Those should get it on a plane. I have a Mojo blade and dual pickup rudder actually coming in the mail today. I feel the golden time has passed for fast electric rtr boats I remember 7/8 years ago you had the likes of the genesis/pursuit/ joysway super surge crusher..all discontinued never replaced proboat aside the rtr nowadays are rubbish,better off learning to build your own because even the proboat rtr have issues out the box usually poor cooling
Your probably right but whats the fun I'm having a rtr boat that is ready to roll 100% and there's nothing you can do to it at all. Like the v2 sonicwake that boat comes ready to go literally..... Darn wished I had ne a recovery boat this weekend twice I had to wade in to recover on time had to strip to my scivies and went in chest high to recover it in the cat tails.
I’m wanting to build my first boat, and I’m definitely the overachiever, like to experiment and usually get in over my head type of guy…my question is, is it possible to build a Hydro scale boat using an EDF or two for thrust? I’m pretty experienced with planes and trucks/cars, but never had a boat before. Advice is welcome
Yea I've seen EDF powered custom hydros,, one problem you'll run into is cg, keep the center of Gravity as low as possible so she corners well. You'll also want to keep the weight forward 2/3 the hull length.
hi big b love your vids i got my first boat last year a toy grade nqd tear into jet boat needless to say after watching a few TH-cam vids I tore into it fitted a brushless motor and 50amp esc and pared it up to flysky gt3c radio good fun in a pond but it really comes into its own going up small shallow streams no prop to damage on rocks jet boats are real bashers I'd love a thrasher like Dr jet mentioned but just can't afford one. so go on give a jet boat a try

Really depends on what size boat your looking for and your definition of competitive. Small race boat: The mini dom from oxidean marine is a great starter boat it's race-ready & easy to setup.. I'd stick with a mono hull as a starter boat. The proboat sonicwake is a great larger scale boat for all-around fun running, not really a race ready boat but it does self right

Out the box I'd go with the veles 29 she's basically ready to go i'v literally only upgraded the rudder & prop. Stock 67mph upgraded prop 81mph If your looking for a cheap fun and upgradable boat the that won't break the bank the bj24 is perfect, out the box she's a 35-40mph boat upgrade the power system and you'll have a fast boat 66mph upgraded

Still totally torn between a Blackjack 24 and the new Recoil V2 as a first boat... due to it being a V hull and having self righting I'm thinking the Recoil V2 may be better in some ways.... but the Blackjack would likely use batteries I already have... and is a chunk cheaper... Also briefly looked into the Arrow... So hard to make a choice...choice paralysis is why I didn't get a boat last summer...

@@IRONCLADRC There's a great salt water pond nearby that is specifically made for model boats. I once ran a boat there many years ago, and even though I completely disassembled, cleaned, re-lubricated, and re-assembled everything, I still saw corrosion. I can walk to the Pacific Ocean from my house, and that's the closest MY boats will ever get to salt water.
I run in saltwater all the time, when I get home I spray the hull with cheap household cleaner wipe down, and rinse with fresh water. then use a 100ml syringe to flush the cooling system with fresh water three times. use a paper towel to remove any water in the hull and spray all electrics with wd40, finally, I remove and re-grease the flex shafts. don't take long when you get used to doing it

What boat type do you like best? Mono hydro, cat? mono hulls are great all around boats & great for beginners. Catamarans are my go to for speed runs, hydroplanes are a little more complicated but amazing when tuned right Bashing, speed runs, or turning ovals? Or all of the above. Lol. I've got a couple boats in mind what's your flavor

Personally I like a mono or low vee hull. That's just me, I don't run in big bodies of water plus I like the way they handle

Don't add weight use battery distribution to change cg. Boats don't like to be heavy. Just a tip! Build it ironclad

Your right about a jet boat being a basher there fun to run. I've been meaning to get a jet boat I've had alot of request to get one on the channel.

I agree moving the strut up will plant the stern into the water more, try a little down trim on the right trim tab, Or prop down.

I don't use anything on the outside of my hulls, I do carbonfiber inlays on the inside of the boat before I install electronics

I think a 3660 2300kvish motor would be better than a 540 size motor.. the stock motor would be a better choice ove a 540 size

Sr 80 &85 are great starter boats. Plenty fast out the box and easy enough to upgrade

Yea, but saltwater isn't good for the electronics, a boat that gets run in salt water must be 100% water tight.

Why only 1 turn fin? Is it for turning only 1 direction
Yes basically, the fin holds the boat down so you can turn the boat at full speed with out flipping it basically hold the boat to the water

But where do you find drawings for building a boat hull from scratch ? Might want something to build during next winter (ohhh i got many months of building then) ;)
I found alot of plans online searching the boat type your interested in. Ml boat works has plans available

What boat type do you like best? Mono hydro, cat? mono hulls are great all around boats & great for beginners. Catamarans are my go to for speed runs, hydroplanes are a little more complicated but amazing when tuned right
Bashing, speed runs, or turning ovals? Or all of the above. Lol.

Wow... Im super amized for your different kind of rc boats.... For me the best is catamaran hull design... I have build that boat. But for now.. i have no esc and motor for it .. i have no money yet to buy it... Im hoping one of this day i have it all....
