    I find it so hard to cope with feeling powerless, especially because people look to us as health professionals to help them. Thanks for being so raw and open about these things!!

      10000% it's so hard to sit with isn't it, especially when you're "supposed to" be able to help. Thank you for the lovely comment :)

    It must be so incredibly difficult watching all this damage occur when it could have easily never happened if the government were competent. Great video as always. Stay strong, you're doing important work!

    Thank you so much for doing this. Seeing the highs and lows of the doctorate is really helpful! It helps to break down the 'Instagram effect' where we post only perfect images and content, so thank you so much for being so honest. I can't imagine how hard it must be in ICUs regardless of the pandemic but particularly at the moment.
    I completely resonate with the drive to help people and having to accept that help might not look like what we want it to look like, it might just be a conversation to lift a mood, rather than some sustained lifestyle, behavioural, cognitive change.
    Going through the same storm as everyone is so tough. Everything is so unprecedented. It must make training so so much more difficult as there are so many more uncertainties. I really resonate with what you said about being more politically engaged. I think this pandemic has engaged a lot more people because you're right, the decisions they make MATTER. People lost their lives, their loved ones, their jobs...
    Thank you again for putting this content out there. Your channel is fab!

      Thanks so much for this comment - you've got exactly what I was trying to say. What you said about help not looking like what we want it to look like... that hits the nail on the head. Really does make me realise how much the job does for ME and my self-worth/sense of purpose, which is really interesting, because it's often framed as something super "altruistic" haha

    As a fellow trainee im sending you a big hug! ❤ the last year has gone by for me in waves of motivation to feeling completely frozen and stuck. There is no right way to get through this! I keep telling myself one foot in front of the other! Let's not kid ourselves though it's been incredibly hard! Sending you love xx

    • @TheWorryPeople
      @TheWorryPeople  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Owww sending you a hug RIGHT back. Agreed - it's baby steps and everything is so subject to change at the minute that it's important not to write off the rest of training 😂 hope you're finding yourself in a positive wave right now :) xx

    Even tho I love your ‘energetic’ side with the funny intros, this was equally as enjoyable and super relatable! It’s good to sometimes stop and reflect about everything going on and I’m glad you decided to Vlog about it and share your thoughts.
    Personally, maybe it’s just my personality or my support system or a combination of both, but I’ve been super grateful that I’ve managed to get through this difficult period without having a total mental breakdown but I might be in the minority 😂😂
    Glad you’re coping with it well 😁😁

      That really means a lot Usman - was a bit nervous about doing something different, so I really appreciate the positive feedback :)
      So glad to hear that you've avoided a total meltdown - GO YOU!!! If you can get through this then you can get through anything 😂😂

    Compleeeeetely with you on the anger - if I let myself think about it it's overwhelming, I can't even imagine what it's like to be seeing the effects irl. Sending you so many virtual hugs.

    • @TheWorryPeople
      @TheWorryPeople  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sending you all the virtual hugs right back. You are so so right - just need to find the sweet spot where the anger is energising and not exhausting.

    This definitely resonated with me. It's definitely startling to be confronted with the amount of power placed in political figures, especially when they're not in touch with the reality of the consequences of their actions and when there are others far more educated on this reality. The environment you're working in really sounds like a centralised manifestation of the harm that others have the potential to cause. It's an interesting place to sit in, this powerlessness when it can comes as somewhat of a shock, and harm when it comes from people entrusted to support us.
    I resonate too with the idea of having negative emotions and also coping, though. If anybody challenges this then the thought that comes to mind is 'it's better to be emotional and genuinely coping, than avoidant and 'coping''. The hardest thing about lockdown for me was not having 'unstructured time', spontaneity, new things to do etc. As someone who's really creative I found that just looking at new aesthetically fab things helped a lot - working at art and changing the furniture around etc., that helped.

    • @TheWorryPeople
      @TheWorryPeople  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gaaaaahhhhh, all of this Kara. So much yes, and so eloquently put. Think I'm going to have to give the changing the furniture around strategy a try 😜

    Great video. I really enjoyed hearing your honest and authentic reflections on how things are for you at the moment. I too have felt that anger which you described in your first point. During the first covid wave, I encountered a lot of challenges (being redeployed at work, loved ones in icu etc) which made me feel so angry at the government. I kept thinking, "if they had done x, y and z differently then none of these things would have happened". You are right about psychologists needing to get more involved on a wider systemic level. If we truly want to help people then we should be involved in politics. I try to get invovled Psychologists for Social Change as much as I can.
    Keep making the vids!! They're brilliant 👍

      Thanks so much for sharing this - this 100% resonates. It's so easy to get completely frustrated and angry... which I think is needed, but it also can lead to resentment which is less productive. I haven't heard about Psychologists for Social Change? Is that a group? Sounds v cool!! Really appreciate your lovely feedback, means a lot after a bit of a BLEUUGHH week last week :)

    Another great video, very relatable! I'm not a trainee CP but I'm a qualified PWP so very much feel that helplessness at times when clients are going through covid related distress.. And the strangeness that comes with also going through the motions with covid at the same time. It brings a lot of additional layers that weren't really there before the pandemic. And emotionally the work feels a lot heavier a lot more frequently than before-that's just my experience of course. It's really good to hear your share and to have a voice to some of the challenges involved in being a mental health professional at this time!! Thanks Miranda!

      My pleasure Ashley, have to say it's been comforting to hear that other people like yourself are feeling the same things. Stronger together!!

    Thank you for such an important video Miranda and choosing to take the more serious/reflective route even if its easy to think TH-cam want smiley/happy/lighthearted all the time.
    PS - Anyone else obsessively watching the feather on her jumper as she moves her hand?

    Thanks for sharing, here are my thoughts
    1) I liked what you said about whats Happened and Happening in ICU
    2) I share your emotions and I don't want to say no more on the 8 mins
    3) Glad you feel energised and that's a good thing, we need that
    4) Thanks for reflecting this and being honest.
    Keep up the good work!

    do clinical psychologist get night shift duty?

  • @noornass1988

    I think you should spend it in prayers and worshiping jesus... that time alone of God to be one with your creator would be the solution. Try it u have nothing to loose but I guarantee you that you would win.
