unless you cut out the tweaking, those diamonds aren't at full strength at around the 8 minute mark: They only go red on one half, which means they're asymmetrical, and one side bearing more of the load means it breaks faster; you can squeeze more strength out of them by tweaking the red side outwards or the pale side inwards, whichever works

Just wanted to give you a tip. If you arch the entire road at like 20° it is a milion times stronger than the straight road and makes the long bridge relatively easy
Imagine you are the guy that sets the budget, and your bridge engineer returns to you saying "Im feeling generous today, so here is your 1 dollar left from the budget."
Don't think Polly Bridges updates is what make some bridges not work, it seems like it's dependent on playback speed, some bridges are so borderline that one versus two x seems to mean the difference between the bridge breaking or not
I think we need a comparison to the price using the foundation to not using the foundation. Foundation would be useful because while you were always under budget, you cut it close several times. If you could get it cheaper without the foundation then they would be mostly useless, with the use being to help beginner players.
Many people can't / don't have time to come up with solutions or just try to replicate the cheapest idea in the gallery, foundations are still useful for any casual player.
OP is right, 45° is the best angle for an object with constant speed, the cars, however, do lose a lot of speed going uphill, so the trade-off has to take the variable jump speed into account. Another thing that has to be taken into account is that the game simulates the energy transfer between the car and the bridge, so the bridge flexes and therefore the slope changes. Building ramps is a little more complex now, but in my opinion the levels are easier to compensate. Or at least they're intuitive.
The fact that there are currently solutions in the gallery where the non-foundation answers are losing to the foundation answers on budget makes me happy that they got it about right. And of course the presence of foundations makes this challenge interesting.
Now that 45 degrees is only the optimal launch angle for the cases where the launch point and target are at the same elevation. In the case where the destination is lower, a shallower angle is desired.
Did you try to reinforce the first bridge with the 18k you spent on delaying the cars? I thought it was a weird decision to go for that solution without trying it first, maybe it was edited out.
You should definitely try making those simple trusses a lot smaller early on in the build. They add unnecesary load to the bridge which leads to having to overcompenste in your supports.
Foundations are extremely useful when you're just trying to beat the level and not do a crazy challenge. They're not ALWAYS necessary but they come in handy A LOT
"the fact you can do all the levels under budget without them" YOU ARE A PROFESSIONAL POLYBRIDGE PLAYER AND YOU STILL STRUGGLED WITH THAT CHALLENGE, I'D SAY THEY'RE A FINE FEATURE
In the video you mention that 45 degrees is the ideal launch angle, but that’s not actually the case. 45 degrees is the ideal launch angle when the projectile does not experience air resistance and lands at the same altitude, so for poly bridge it’s a decent guideline but only sometimes the ideal angle
Every Level without foundation? Where's the tanker truck jump from the secret world? Or does that not count as regular campaign? Still amazing and beautiful solutions.
Should I make a flywheel launcher next, or do another campaign challenge?
can you do something in Legend of Zelda Lost Tears? seems right up your alley!

Hello Nile Red of games.
unless you cut out the tweaking, those diamonds aren't at full strength at around the 8 minute mark: They only go red on one half, which means they're asymmetrical, and one side bearing more of the load means it breaks faster; you can squeeze more strength out of them by tweaking the red side outwards or the pale side inwards, whichever works
Yup I edited most of the tweaking out, good eye though

Poly Bridge 3: We've added a new piece for your enjoyment, FOUNDATIONS!
Reid Captain: Nö.
These are the real questions we should be asking.
The long bridge is extremely impressive
Thanks, I was happy I got it working!
Agreed!
The level "back to foundations" was so impressive! I can't believe you got it under budget!
Don't think Polly Bridges updates is what make some bridges not work, it seems like it's dependent on playback speed, some bridges are so borderline that one versus two x seems to mean the difference between the bridge breaking or not
I'm surprised you didn't make more road arcs so the roads support themselves better.
He has a lot to learn

They would still be useful for lowest stress.
@@eclipseeffigy that'd be a fun condition. Lowest stress under budget
@@kevingomez3051 There is a leader-board for that in the game.
@@deathofallthingspotato9919 oh nice! I didn't know that. Was it in 2?
just so you know 45 degrees is the ideal launch angle for projectiles, not for things like cars which can gain speed as they drive up the ramp
Mmm good point, but it's a decent approximation since the acceleration at the end of the ramp is minimal
once a car leaves a ramp, it IS a projectile
OP is right, 45° is the best angle for an object with constant speed, the cars, however, do lose a lot of speed going uphill, so the trade-off has to take the variable jump speed into account.

Building ramps is a little more complex now, but in my opinion the levels are easier to compensate. Or at least they're intuitive.
@Reid Captain for polybridge a rule of thumb is that the right angle for a ramp is about 30-33 degrees as long as the car has speed
The fact that there are currently solutions in the gallery where the non-foundation answers are losing to the foundation answers on budget makes me happy that they got it about right.
And of course the presence of foundations makes this challenge interesting.
right and left part of the bridge: 😥
middle part of the bridge: 💀
Reid, you need to find bugs in this game quick, we need something to replace spring-suspension engine
Were upwards arches a too easy solution? Cause they were a better solution in most of the situations.
Now that 45 degrees is only the optimal launch angle for the cases where the launch point and target are at the same elevation.
In the case where the destination is lower, a shallower angle is desired.
I didnt know poly bridge 3 was a thing
Just dropped a few days ago :)

Lets celebrate polybridge 3 by not using the new features! (jk this video is really good)
Wow this is my first comment to be hearted! Thanks
Did you try to reinforce the first bridge with the 18k you spent on delaying the cars? I thought it was a weird decision to go for that solution without trying it first, maybe it was edited out.
I definitely could have, but it worked out after not too long messing with it and it was more interesting imo
I haven't even beaten the game yet and reid is already coming out with a video on beating it without foundations
17:28 For the one with the stop sign, I think the star makes the car continue forward, instead of the brakes just being bad.
You should definitely try making those simple trusses a lot smaller early on in the build. They add unnecesary load to the bridge which leads to having to overcompenste in your supports.
Foundations are extremely useful when you're just trying to beat the level and not do a crazy challenge. They're not ALWAYS necessary but they come in handy A LOT
need an achievement for this "Just truss me" or something
Imo completing that very long bridge without foundations should be an achievement like I would never ever think this is actually possible
i did a few of the early levels without any foundations and a really good way to get your bridge to be stronger is to make the roads in an arch.
1:00 question: cant a tension bridge (thing with 2 ropes connected to undersupport in middle) do the job?
that long span BILF made my day

Your intonation... NileReid.
*_B R I D G E_* (The long awaited sequel)
Is it possible to beat this entire game (including secret world) without steel (unless on levels where there's nothing but steel)?
You can use roads as supports on levels where you're only given steel, so it might still be possible.
In some levels it felt as though you had forgot that ropes and cable were available.
Poly bridge 3: Aliensrock simulator
In the video you mention that 45 degrees is the ideal launch angle, but that’s not actually the case. 45 degrees is the ideal launch angle when the projectile does not experience air resistance and lands at the same altitude, so for poly bridge it’s a decent guideline but only sometimes the ideal angle
The Wood Steel Conglomerate approves of this technique
Can't beleive they actually put a car driving a car with the 4 bar linkage wheel.
If youd put 5% of your effords to stop the top cars into the bridge structure it would be strong enough where you dont need to stop the top cars
Make your road arched that will make the bridges 20% to 30% stronger
with the amount of steel you spent on the second bridge, the budget could be use to strengthen the bridge, might be cheaper who knows??
surely speed maintenance means that you'll get more distance with a shallower launch angle for the jump?
You're awesome, man.
Seeing many strongest shapes in this video, quality engineering 👍

Try to beat with ONLY foundations!
