I am extremely skeptical anytime a politician says: "everyone wins." Someone will always be paying more or at a disadvantage. The Coliseum is falling a part and in a section of Oakland that has defied all odds and actually gotten worse over the past three decades.
Shao says the $$$ from the sale will fund police/fire. What happens when that runs out? There is no guarantee what ASG builds there will be sufficient to fund those necessary city services. In addition, notice it's always police/fire that get put on the chopping block, not other lesser services.
I was wondering the same thing. Businesses are leaving/closing in droves and it’s population is declining so the tax revenue for those services will continue decreasing.
Thanks for the interview, Brodie. It's great that the AASEG was able to acquire the property and bail out the city this year. But what happens next year without that windfall? There is obviously a huge structural deficit within the city and it would be nice to know how the mayor plans to resolve that. Sure, development of the Coliseum and HT may help in the future, but even if they get great revenue-producing uses for those sites, it would be years away from sending money into the city coffers. I sure hope that the mayor and rest of the city government has a plan so that those fire station closures won't simply be put off until next year.

I watch The Sacramento Republic and they kick off at 8pm sometimes because of the heat. Not easy to accommodate the MLB schedule that way but you know what? There has been a AAA baseball team here in West Sacramento for at least 25 years. I see this Las Vegas thing getting messy, no-one there wants the A's.
Brodie ,I realize its too late to question Mayor Thao but....I was listening to an old Lee Hacksaw Hamilton video that he did on the A's going to Sacramento . He mentioned that in the lease extention talks , Oakland offered the A's $96 million for 3 years . My question to you Brodie....Do you feel that there is a chance for Oakland to bring that back up somewhere down the line ?
If the AASEG and the A’s came up with a plan to save the team from moving now you need services at the stadium. Can the city of Oakland afford to place Police and other essential services at the Coliseum on 81 dates?
There are a lot of real problems in Oakland that can rightly be tied to the leadership - or rather lack thereof, of Sheng Thao. But losing the A's is not one of those problems. Let's be clear - John Fisher was always going to try to move the team out of Oakland regardless of who the mayor was. Anything the team officials were saying about Howard Terminal before the Vegas announcement was a smokescreen and a sham. She said she wouldn't change anything about that. Well she is wrong. The city has to open up the talks again and secure the A's in Oakland because las vegas or sacramento is not a for sure thing.
Shes actually part of the problem. As long as they keep electing incompetent corrupt people to lead that city they will continue to spiral downward. Anyone being honest knows it will be a very very long time (if ever) before Oakland gets another major professional team
Shitting on Sacramento's viability as a major league city is a real shitty way to go about this when she was a big part of causing this situation over the last 2 administrations in the first place.
I support mayor Thao 💯% even if some issues are delicate n sensitive.... she IS tryna to make Oakland better for everyone makes me have hope once again
Her personal story is also inspirational (regardless of your political leanings). That's why the whole investigation allegations were so disheartening. People need people with her type of background to believe in.
Oakland fans, this is why your teams left. You voted for these irresponsible politicians, you’ll never learn. At the end of the day, it was you the fans that ran your teams out of Oakland.
You're wild, dawg. John Fisher is the common denominator. A mayor can only do so much to appease a greedy owner. 1. Joe Lacob got private funding to build Chase Center because he didn't want to deal with John Fisher. 2. Fisher sat on his lease and pissed off Marc Davis resulting in the Raiders being lured by Sheldon Adelson's billion dollar funding package. 3. The Howard Terminal stadium could have been done by now but Fisher didn't want to cover the 90 million shortfall. And so he walked away to find some suckers to fund his stadium. And now he's willing to give up equity stake in the team to fund his Vegas wet dream stadium because nobody wants to do business with him.
I would rather the billionaire move his team than I continue to pay for stuff...the Raiders are gone and I am still paying in my property taxes for Mount Davis to be built to bring them back here from LA...screw that shit...I am with the City for not agreeing to insane bribes to keep them... The city worked out over 400M in funding for Fisher that wasn't based on debt financing but he wanted 90M or so more and they couldn't figure that out. F John Fisher...he wanted a bigger hand job...
If Oakland is wondering what happened to all their sports teams maybe look at the last near 50 years worth of politicans elected mayor and remind yourself what the definition of madness is. I personally have zero sympathy for the sports fans of the Bay Area because the mess they find themselves in is partially of their own making. Watching Brodie's coverage has helped me better understand the views of the people who are affected by these moves but I ultimately understand the economics of the situation are undeniable.
I was sad to see the Raiders go and doubly so for the As but I am tired of Cities being raked over the coals for not giving bigger hand jobs to billionaires...enough already! if they can't be bothered to find their own pipe dreams then GTFO. I am still paying for the Raiders to "come back to the Bay" on my property taxes cause the debts we took on to fund building Mt Davis for them are still being paid in for even though they took off like a 6+yrs ago now...we don't need to find the play things of billionaires...we have schools, roads, and stuff to pay for instead...if we are taking on debt, let it be for something more important than a handout to the richest people around...
Sheng has been in office impacting Oakland adversely for more than 6 years being on council prior and prior to that chief of staff and intern to CM Kaplan. So no excuses or blaming failures on prior administration. #RecallShengThao
The Niners are sadly probably going to be in Santa Clara for a while. If anything, the Niners should move back to Candlestick, or at least somewhere in the peninsula closer to SF like Brisbane, Daly City, South San Francisco. Not sure if Oakland people would want the Niners playing at the Coliseum or a new stadium on the Coliseum site. Most Oakland people are still Raider fans for the most part.
@@86byrdman the biggest issue with Levi's is it is hard to get to. With BART, Capital Corridor, and it's proximity to the freeway the Colosseum is the perfect place for any NFL team. People in Oakland may not be thrilled about the Niners, but I'm sure they would rather an NFL team than the Roots and the Ballers. A dome would bring in a lot of big events. Santa Clara would be happy, because it would mean no more "amplified sound". Candlestick won't work because it is also not ideal to get to via public transit and the only Peninsula locations that may be available are the Brisbane dump which is really just the other side of Candlestick and not much easier to get to and Tanforan mall, which is a great location as far as proximity to public transit and the freeway, however it is pretty residential and very close to the airport and I don't think you could build something that tall.
Boras played on turf in the 70's. Construction has started in Sacramento. MLBPA has no veto power. MLB has made the statement, Sacramento is happening and MLBPA said all they are discussing is like what the inside design of the new clubhouses going in, in Sacramento will be like. Players have commented on how they are partaking. BEING IN A SEWAGE, RODENT, FERAL CAT AND YES EVEN MOLD WHICH IS HORRIFIC FOR THE LUNGS IS NOT IN THE PLAYERS' BEST INTEREST. I have turf, I live where it gets to be 100+ and the heat can be mitigated!
City of Oakland sells it half of Coliseum for $105 million and John Fisher sold his half(which he paid $85 to Alameda County) for $125 million . Fisher makes $40 million profit. Looks like City of Oakland left $20 million on the table. No wonder the City of Oakland is on its road to bankruptcy. If lived in Oakland, I’d definitely vote to recall Mayor Thao.
Comments like this always overlook the fact that there are always 2 or more parties to a negotiation. The end result is often a compromise between what each party wants.
@@jeremyd1869 You’re right. Just pointing out that Fisher got a better deal by $20 million or perhaps Fisher is just a better negotiator. I was a bit harsh in my criticism of the City of Oakland officials.
Fisher's half became worth more because he sold 2nd. It was the key to unlocking full site control. If you are selling a plot of land where you have to split control with another party it's obviously worth less.
I feel she jump the gun on her press announcement when the first LV news dropped and ranted on Fisher. Could have say less and not to burn bridges cause you never know.
Explain to me why when Finley brought the A's to Oakland (and immediately regretted it) the Dynasty A's 1971-76 couldn't draw? Under a million! I feel for A's fans, I'm from Montreal but the east bay never supported the A's and you will never get another team again Oakland is a shithole compared to Montreal. Rip baseball in Oakland
different decades are apples and oranges when it comes to attendance. bay area could have supported 2 teams in real competition. should the white sox be forced to move out of chicago? look at their attendance, even after winning a world series in this century.

She does daily/weekly interviews with every single local tv station. I’m far from the first or last.
@@brodiebrazil lol, I was saying it's the first I have seen in my feed - good to know she hasn't been avoiding it...I can always Google it I guess...I liked her; hopefully she survives this mess...some but not all of it of her own making as I gather from what's popa up on news feed...time will tell I guess...
i am a big heart person and very positive, but I still dont believe her about her letting the A's go, in particular, when she said that the city of Oakland wont let the A's use us as leverage and ended talks with the A's. She said she wouldn't change anything about that. Well she is wrong. The city has to open up the talks again and secure the A's in Oakland because las vegas or sacramento is not a for sure thing.
lol brodie being like "im just a humble youtbuer"
Shes actually part of the problem. As long as they keep electing incompetent corrupt people to lead that city they will continue to spiral downward.
Anyone being honest knows it will be a very very long time (if ever) before Oakland gets another major professional team
Greedy, cheapskate owners are 99% of the problem.
Yep.
How is it her fault? Please explain.
Why was her house raided? What ever happened with that?
I don’t trust one word that comes out of her mouth. She’s not even trying to keep the A’s in Oakland
Shitting on Sacramento's viability as a major league city is a real shitty way to go about this when she was a big part of causing this situation over the last 2 administrations in the first place.
New Oakland roots stadium
I support mayor Thao 💯% even if some issues are delicate n sensitive.... she IS tryna to make Oakland better for everyone makes me have hope once again
Her personal story is also inspirational (regardless of your political leanings). That's why the whole investigation allegations were so disheartening. People need people with her type of background to believe in.
All these negative comments....
@@kiroolioneaver8532 Still no official charges.
Oakland fans, this is why your teams left. You voted for these irresponsible politicians, you’ll never learn. At the end of the day, it was you the fans that ran your teams out of Oakland.
So-when is she resigning?
She really shouldn't be smiling about anything
Isn’t Dave Stewart part of that group?
he is not

Thanks mayor for letting the A´s get out of town..... now we´ve got nothing.... should´ve built a new stadium
@@djbttncrt let's enjoy then our Oakland sportless city then, routing for San Francisco and Sacramento...
@@jorgearizaga6787 We got the Ballers, Roots and Soul.
@@djbttncrt Thats sad ya...
How the hell is she still mayor.. for that matter, how the hell is she not in jail yet??? What a disgrace.
Joke!!!!
Why would you even have her on your show?
maybe to interview her?? 🤔🤔
She sold the largest amount of developable land in Oakland while she ushered in a swap of two baseball teams.
49ers dome at the Colosseum!
Candlestick won't work because it is also not ideal to get to via public transit and the only Peninsula locations that may be available are the Brisbane dump which is really just the other side of Candlestick and not much easier to get to and Tanforan mall, which is a great location as far as proximity to public transit and the freeway, however it is pretty residential and very close to the airport and I don't think you could build something that tall.
lol 😂
shes a good mayor.
Ok it doesn’t get 120 degrees in Stockton, like most politicians, she stretches the truth
Re read that all caps part. Tell me how it got that way?

I can see the Roots joining the MLS, and getting a UFL team. I wouldn't rule out a possible White Sox or Chargers move to Oakland.

I feel for A's fans, I'm from Montreal but the east bay never supported the A's and you will never get another team again
Oakland is a shithole compared to Montreal.
