Thanks for sharing your strategy. It's been working for me, although I get rude comments from other players at the table. However, I don't listen to them, especially since I always have stacks of cheques, and they have 1or 4 cheques total :-)
As much as I have to agree that side bets are sucker bets, it's the side bet that won me a blackjack tournament in the final round. The side bet paid something crazy like 30 to 1 on drawing doubles. On the last hand of the round, I drew a pair of 8s against the dealer's blackjack. I lost the hand but won on the side bet. As I was certain to be eliminated based on my chip count vs the rest of the table, I bet only two chips for the regular hand and put the remaining 20 or so chips I had on the side bet. Best damn lucky decision I ever made lol.
Thank you for the video, very helpful. Especially i liked a "critisizing dude" part of it, now i know what to reply to some1 who is being rude at the table.
I played in jersey city many years ago and this one player next to me bitched like a mad bitch claiming I took his card of course I won the hand and he went bust but if I ever go and play again I'll just play me versus the dealer and you don't have no asswipe next to you to disrupt your playing enjoyment which was just totally RUDE of that crazyass DUDE !!
During this "Voluntary" isolation period, I have observed that some people are not dealing with it very well. So as a self-designed indicator of my own condition, I still consider myself to be relatively stable. I am taking stock of my actions. As long as I can talk to myself and not break into an argument, I am doing fine?
Yes you are and don’t be persuaded by zombies Who say that if you answer yourself you’re crazy. My mom taught me that it’s impolite not to answer when someone is talking to me. (In psychotherapy this is known as internal dialogue, and it’s healthy).
So,how does the strategies or odds change if it is a full table, or one or two players at the table? Do the odds change when a shoe of 8 decks vs a auto shuffle of 6 decks?
I just played blackjack for the second time today and that scenario @ 12:30 happened to me. The pit boss scolded me, one of the card dealers scolded me and other players scolded me. I left feeling bitter and turned off by the game. Funny thing is 3 different people came to my table and they all busted before me while trying to give me advice on how to play and they all blamed their ill fortune on me. Apparently what none of these videos teach you is that there is a way to play when it's just you and the dealer and a different way to play with a group according to the pit boss but as I politely told him as well as another dealer told him that I was winning. Anyways another player that lost told me that when you're playing with a group that we all have to band together to force the dealer to pull the bust cards but I thought that was strange since that was what I was trying to do. Apparently I thought the game was just between me and the dealer but it seems I have to hit my cards while considering the other players cards. 2 different players told me they didn't like playing with me The first time I played I wasn't the focus of the other players and played no different than that first night but a friend of mine that was playing for the first time was going through what I went through tonight. He was scolded that night like I was tonight. Before playing this game consider that the table will be controlled by people who believe in rabbits feet and goat entrails.
I been dealing back jack for over 10 years. Always play your hand. Don't worry about what the other players tell you. It's your money. It's up to you to play to the best of your ability. So kindly tell them to play their hand and you play yours. If they do t like it, they are free to go to another table.

Hello Mr Shackleford, I want to thank you for your great tips on Blackjack strategy. My question is, what is the industry standard for tipping a dealer after a large win. Recently I won 3rd place at a BJ tournament $500. I tipped the dealer $75. While I am not cheap, I also don't want to go overboard!
Thanks! That was a good size tip you gave the dealer. The "industry standard" for tipping a dealer is between 10-15% depending on the customer service received.
If you can count cards, you can doing awkward splits and take insurance. But that puts you on the spotlight very quick. Especially if you are doing table max bets lol. I'd know. 😂 Splitting faces against dealers 8s lol. You just never so SIDE bets.
Thanks Michael for creating 10000 gambling addicts through your affiliate portal. Just think of all the homelessness, despair and misery you caused in making yourself rich. Well done!
Michael, I've played your BJ game on your site and had a 17 with 3 cards an (8, 5 & 4 card) against a dealers (10 value up card) and the advice was to hit. Can you clarify when to hit on a 17+ hands?
It's much easier for card counters in a single-deck. Even if you don't count cards, you can easily get a good idea of what kind of cards (high/low) are left in a single-deck or even a double-deck. When you start playing a 4, 5, 6-deck shoe, it becomes much harder to determine what's actually left if you're a casual player. That's where perfect basic strategy and card counting becomes a must in order to gain an edge on the house.
All of these rules are only mostly true, as many have small exceptions. Namely 12 against 2 Pair of 9's against 9 Low soft hands against 5's or 6's Still great advice for a beginner.
The basic strat charts are true and if you follow them faithfully you will do the best. You should realize that this is the age of computers and there is no arguments anymore about what is the best thing to do on a BJ hand. That includes splitting 9s against a 9, for instance. But just logically, having a 9 against a 9 is better than having a 18 against a 9
I always hit my twelve against a dealer 2 or 3. There are only 16 cards that will bust you and 36 that won't. Thats 2.25 to 1 in your favor. That said, I hate 12.
Mohegan Sun has those good rules he cited. With basic strategy and counting I can go down 200$ on a 15$ minimum table, but I can also go up as much as 400$ on the same night. Without counting, I lose more, coz I can't deviate and I feel like a blind kitten. Comps have gotten worse but still they add up to my bankroll. Basic strategy is a great thing; it might seem that u are losing sometimes with it, but those doubles and splits get u back on the track pretty well. I have seen many people fall down at tables where I managed to stay afloat for hours till my brain started to boil of all the counting. Playing without counting is more enjoyable, but there is a price! Is it worth the months of investing into practice? Yes, if u r a frequent player. No, if u r one of those who play side bets.
Ilham H, When and where do they have $15 blackjack I don't think that I have ever seen a table there for less than $25 is this new or is it weekends vs weekdays ?
Coz u were there on holidays and weekends. There are only 2, 15$ ones on those days and there are crowds around them. U have to go on reg. days, mornings and stuff, The least busy times.
Hey mike I have a question I just finished reading Knock-out blackjack by Olaf Vancura and I'm trying to learn the playing deviations the book does include them but the chart is not so intuitive can you provide a list of these plays under the KO count and please make them clear
Even money on a BJ is exactly the same thing as taking insurance on a BJ. If you take full insurance on a BJ, no matter what happens after that you get even money. I did not see anything confusing about what he said.
Michael Shackleford In your Q&A (Great website!!), you declined Cacarulo challenge for the "betting strategy challenge" (no card counting). So you believe a $1-$1000 could be beatable? My question; did you ask him and would he except the same challenge but with $1-$500 bet spread? Does he think that's beatable? Let us know, thx.
Yes it does change. Basically you don't hit a 16 against a 10 if the count is 0 or greater. Or 15 against 10 if the count is a little greater. Also, a small negative count will let hitting a 12 against a 5 or 6. Many, many more examples. Rarely I dbl an A9 or split 1010 when the count is right. Usually when I do it the count is very high, and there is a lot of money on the hand. Either a big loss or a big win.
Michael ,im a bit fuzzy on this. Is it eventually possible to win in blackjack and make money with it or is this actually also the rule of "in long term house always wins" ?
Hello Mr Shackleford, is it true that if the minimum bet on the BJ table is at last $25 or more, the table will attract more skillful players, and using this logic it is better to play higher steaks?
Which basic strategy chart did you show in this video? I cannot find it on your website. I have also seen some charts that say the rules include doubling on a split but it doesn't show when to double on a split. How do I know when to double on a split if the chart doesn't show it?
When you "Split" you are then playing 2 individual (separate) hands. Play each of them according to the best Basic Strategy for the Game (Table) you are playing at.
No, never. It says in the video always play on a table where it says 'dealer must stand on all 17s'. Also ALWAYS ONLY play on a table where Blackjack pays 3 to 2 and NEVER on a table where Blackjack pays 6 to 5. If it doesn't say on a table what Blackjack pays, then always ask the dealer.
fuck learning how to play we all can look at a card and get a little weird here and there when were feelin it. how do you size your bets to win money bug and fast
If there was a double deck game and a six deck game w/ equal rules but the six deck game had a very high penetration and the double deck game had a very small penetration which would be better for a relatively confident hi lo counter
allaboutdisneyworld depends on how low the penetration is on dd, and how high the penetration on 6d is but for a counter, the 6d might be more favorable
assuming same rules, 6d is probably better. I am a BS player but did try counting at home. So this isn't my forte, take this question to www.wizardofvegas.com to get a better answer.
You can check my website about this topic : wizardofodds.com/games/blackjack/card-counting/introduction/ and wizardofodds.com/games/blackjack/card-counting/high-low/
@@37rainman I think you misread this. Hit a hard 12 vs. a dealer's 2 or 3 and stay on any other hard hand in that scenario. Makes mathematical sense (in standard six-deck BJ).
I suspect Michael knows you should take insurance if you know how to count cards, but he didn' t wanna over complicate the situation for the average viewer just learning. In that case, only take insurance at a true +3 or higher
Also I wanted to know in a 8 deck game with good rules..whats the best time too rise my bets.. I mean at what positive value of the true count should I rise my bets at +3 +2 just to have an idea.. thank you
I have to say after playing blackjack last night at Pearl River that happened to me. Not did a player accuse me of causing them to bust, they criticized my basis strategy play. They tried to insult my integrity because I WAS WINNING. I new they were just messing with me because THEY WERE PLAYING THOSE CRAZY 🤣 SIDE BETS.
Lee Allen She was playing correct basic strategy, but not the simplified version that is described in this video. That particular situation is one of the areas that are fudged in order to make the simple strategy a lot easier to remember (at the cost of worse odds). Definitely check out the basic strategy calculator on his website, because it also changes depending on the rules of the version you're playing.
Michael would do so much better if he took some presenting classes. His content and knowledge is worth so many more subscribers. And the words you need at the beginning, "This is my beautiful assistant, Angela" or "This is my beautiful student, Angela".
Many mistakes with the provided info:. Correct Basic Strategy is as follows: 12 is a hit vs 2 or 3, 9 vs 2 is a hit not a double, soft 12-15 is a double against a 5 or 6, 44 is a split vs 5 or 6, 77 is also a split vs 7, 99 is also a split vs 8 or 9, surrender is almost never allowed
Michael can you possibly run a simulation to prove that card counting actually works in the long term or if you have ....I can't find the link. Years ago I did it manually with a 5 card deck and 1000 simulations (calculator on the side) ...dotted every result on graph paper and after 1000 trials I came up negative. So I don't believe card counting works.
I have run my own simulations on millions of hands. In theory, it works, but I would not recommend trying it for real due to the high risk and the casinos’ countermeasures.
How much were you betting when the count was negative, and how much when positive? A fact that surprised me: the so-called dealer edge of roughly 0.5% when player uses perfect basic strategy, is the edge in terms of expected value, expressed as a percentage of amount bet, not the edge in terms of the likelihood of the dealer winning any given hand. The dealer wins closer to 52% of all hands, but the player wins more per hand on those 48% of hands that he wins, so that the house edge narrows to 50.25 vs 49.75. This fact of the dealer winning a higher percentage of hands, doesn't change, unless you are "Wonging", or playing only when the count is good. But provided you play the entire shoe, counting cards will not increase your odds of winning any given hand. The dealer still has that edge. What the counter exploits is that he knows when the dealer has the edge and when he has the edge, and bets accordingly. He is able to win even more when he is winning, and minimize what he loses, so that his expected value comes out positive. But he is still winning only 48% of hands! A simple example: I offer you a dice game. You get to pick your two favorite #s out of 6. Let's say you pick 3 and 5. If one of those numbers comes up, you win, otherwise I win. Would you play this game? Not at even-money betting, if you had any sense! You will lose, in the long run, 2 out of 3 plays. But what if I gave you payout odds, paying you 3x your wager when you win? This is akin to Blackjack, exaggerated to illustrate the point: you can make a lot of money playing this dice game, because even though you lose more hands than you win, your earnings on the hands you win exceeds your losses on the hands you lose. Expected value is what counts, and EV is the product of two quantities, so what matters is how the product of those quantities changes.
I'm sorry, but according to basic strategy, you only HIT a hard 9 against a dealer's 2, and double a hard 9 against 3-6. Don't double 9 against a dealer's 2 (according to basic strategy) ALSO, You only split 4's against a dealer's 5 or 6, WHEN doubling after a split is allowed. Otherwise, it's just a hit.
Never bust, never get insurance, never double, never double to run after losses........all this is the advantages of the casinos. Stay close to 50/50 chances. The dealer must hit 17 its your 5% change to win some money.
learned this in about 30 minutes on my drive to Wendover and did great in the casino. would recommend

Why does the number of decks affect the house edge
It's much easier for card counters in a single-deck. Even if you don't count cards, you can easily get a good idea of what kind of cards (high/low) are left in a single-deck or even a double-deck. When you start playing a 4, 5, 6-deck shoe, it becomes much harder to determine what's actually left if you're a casual player. That's where perfect basic strategy and card counting becomes a must in order to gain an edge on the house.
I’m done with 6:5!
All of these rules are only mostly true, as many have small exceptions.
Namely 12 against 2

When did you start having to pay to take even money on your blackjack vs the Dealer's blackjack?
Good point. He didn't explain himself on that bit properly.
Even money on a BJ is exactly the same thing as taking insurance on a BJ. If you take full insurance on a BJ, no matter what happens after that you get even money. I did not see anything confusing about what he said.
In the Blackjack casino survey guide, what does “RSA” Stand for? Also where can I view the guide?
Daniel Chavez Re-split aces. Since splitting aces is a quite powerful strategy, there are some casinos that would only let you split aces once.
Michael Shackleford In your Q&A (Great website!!), you declined Cacarulo challenge for the "betting strategy challenge" (no card counting). So you believe a $1-$1000 could be beatable? This strategy or basic strategy changes though when counting doesn’t it?
No you have to focus on the count while also focusing on playing perfect basic strategy
It actually does. Some card counters stand on 16 vs. 10 because it does not make sense to hit if the shoe is rich in 10s.
Can you use the strategy card while at table? I assume no but wasn't stated.
As long as you don't slow down the table, most dealers will allow it.
Yes.

My local casino does 90% on 6 deck and 40% on double deck
assuming same rules, 6d is probably better. I am a BS player but did try counting at home. So this isn't my forte, take this question to www.wizardofvegas.com to get a better answer.

Hi can you tech us ‘ how to do cards counting
You can check my website about this topic : wizardofodds.com/games/blackjack/card-counting/introduction/ and wizardofodds.com/games/blackjack/card-counting/high-low/
Always hit a hard 12 against a 2 or 3. Stay on any other hard hand. Other than that, agreeable strategy here.
If you "stay one every other hard hand" than a 12, you should not be playing BJ. Your game will have a hideous house edge.
Love the way you rationalize away bad advice.
Hi there where can I buy onr of those basic strategy charts?
In Las Vegas, you can usually buy them in the casino gift shop.
Yes.. good idea
Also I wanted to know in a 8 deck game with good rules..whats the best time too rise my bets.. I mean at what positive value of the true count should I rise my bets at +3 +2 just to have an idea.. thank you
Hugh hefner and Nicolas cages mom deffinently had some secrets.
I have to say after playing blackjack last night at Pearl River that happened to me. Not did a player accuse me of causing them to bust, they criticized my basis strategy play. They tried to insult my integrity because I WAS WINNING. I new they were just messing with me because THEY WERE PLAYING THOSE CRAZY 🤣 SIDE BETS.
where can i get his laminated card strategy?
Ebay
Was she actually playing correct strategy when that player criticized her? She had 12 and the dealer was showing a low card.
Lee Allen 12 vs 2 or 12 vs 3 in a H17 Shoe game is a hitting situation.
If you are not counting cards, why should you care how many decks are being used?
Michael would do so much better if he took some presenting classes. His content and knowledge is worth so many more subscribers. And the words you need at the beginning, "This is my beautiful assistant, Angela" or "This is my beautiful student, Angela".
great info thank you michael :)
How dare that man criticise Angela haha!!
Many mistakes with the provided info:. Correct Basic Strategy is as follows: 12 is a hit vs 2 or 3, 9 vs 2 is a hit not a double, soft 12-15 is a double against a 5 or 6, 44 is a split vs 5 or 6, 77 is also a split vs 7, 99 is also a split vs 8 or 9, surrender is almost never allowed
thanks Mike
Can you send me ur black jack strategies card
He never looked at the camera lol.
Micheal struggling to keep his eyes up.
Why is he there !!!!????
Angela has upgraded.
Angela is so gorgeous, I had a hard time concentrating.
I'm listening to him but all I see is her!
The man who criticized Angela shall die by my hand.
I'm sorry, but according to basic strategy, you only HIT a hard 9 against a dealer's 2, and double a hard 9 against 3-6.
Don't double 9 against a dealer's 2 (according to basic strategy)
ALSO, You only split 4's against a dealer's 5 or 6, WHEN doubling after a split is allowed.
Otherwise, it's just a hit.
@D T Thank you for this information.
I didn't realize the change based on # of decks and rules.
I appreciate this information.
Is that the Wizard of Odds, or a wight from the Night King's army? If we're gambling, I'd put my money on the latter.
When she said let's do it...
I had to go take a shower!
😂😂😂😂
Never bust, never get insurance, never double, never double to run after losses........all this is the advantages of the casinos. Stay close to 50/50 chances. The dealer must hit 17 its your 5% change to win some money.
Casinos must really like you.
