IRL Keyboard store… Worth it? (ft.

  • We went to a IRL Custom Keyboard Store where we can pick parts on the spot and build it ON THE SPOT, all instock but it costs a little more, is that really worth it?
    Afterwards, We had a challenge to spend the same amount of money we did at the store to determine how big of a difference it makes in terms of the parts you would get if you purchased them all online!

    i’ve been to this exact keyboard store before, the guy who helped me out was super nice and we chatted for quite a while. i think really even though the prices may be a little bit higher you’re still paying for the experience of coming here rather than the items itself. i found it worth it because i could talk to other keyboard enthusiasts and test out keyboards instead of coming here just to buy something. so worth it. 10/10

    Mecha Store is another option actually, they might be better so if you guys checked them out that might give SG peeps more options too. I have never gotten a build done with them (because I don't believe it's custom unless I do it myself) but you can pay them to do the build for you.

  • @chronosagenyt2620
    @chronosagenyt2620 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Additional info about the store, I did ask them before about their variety and why they didn’t have like the common and popular switches and/or the boards and they told me that these companies wouldn’t want to collaborate with them or like give them stock to sell to others cause they just didn’t find it beneficial. So I guess it’s mainly aimed at beginners they even say it themselves that their mission is just to get more ppl into custom keyboard, maybe not for professionals(although I have personally built 6 keyboards from all the parts I bought in their store) though it’s for my friends and since you can test out the switches and key caps combo and all.

  • @uxiii9537
    @uxiii9537 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I think idea of that kind of shop is amazing! Imagine if you could hire tools/lubing stations, you could also buy lube in smaller batches for a reasonable price (since online small tubes of lube are not that great priced compared to bigger ones)
    There is also a way to test new switches without shipping fees and waiting time. Imagine keyboard building service, stabilizer tuning, being able to get custon cut foams depending on your keyboard and many more things! They could even have spray painting service! If the shop was popular imagine if keyboard companies were donating their keyboards as samples for store clients! It would bring a lot more pepole into the hobby and many more things! The possibilites are limitless!!!

    idea and place is great.
    i went on vacation to singapore and decided on the perfect keyboard beforehand to buy. Turns out they didnt have the board, switch or keycaps that i wanted in stock. I settled on another board, switch and keycap. After having to spend an extra $100 than i wanted, it turned out they dont accept credit card payment.
    Quality of the keyboard is great and everything works perfectly.
    its just better to order it online, everything is in stock on their website.

  • @Ari-es3sc

    bought a prebuilt from them at the recent IT show for a pretty good price so i could use the base. i think the fact that its so convenient and u can actually check out the product and feel it plays a big part, less risk compared to online.
    didnt buy a custom from them cus i dont like their switches and keycaps LOL.
    ngl was gonna say you guys were kinda biased during the store trip but in the end you summarised the reasons why beginners would find it so useful (even with the markup) perfectly. keep up the great videos!

  • @J7T800
    @J7T800 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    There's so many sound tests, reviews, and build guides everywhere on YT, but you lack the interaction factor in real time. Asking for advice on what to get and immediately getting an answer is what makes physical stores worthwhile. Cost to convenience value is debatable, especially for those deep into the hobby, but it's a good outlet for those starting out.
    No sponsorship/affiliation to the store means no names mentioned. That's class.

    It would be cool but in the US it would only work in very big cities, it's like building a computer as well. So many places now are having issues financially because people test them then go home and order for a cheaper price. Would definitely be a great place to visit though and get to try out different keyboards! Great video!

  • @mr.guillotine3766
    @mr.guillotine3766 ปีที่แล้ว

    This was a fun video. I'm new to the whole keyboard scene (well, like a few months ago is when I finally got a cheap mechanical of my own...I'm poor, so these are all just way out of my budget) so new to watching these vids. So far, I've been enjoying your vids. IMO both of your boards sounded really good. I don't know if I have like a favorite sound though, I sort of like them all, but that might just be because I've just recently stopped using horrible membrane boards, so to me, even the worst mechanical boards sound so much better lol.

    Physical Store: You can TRY stuff and combinations. You get your stuff RIGHT AWAY
    Online Store: Cheaper, You can order whatever you want as long as it is available.
    Cons:
    Physical Store: More expensive, sometimes the employees don't really care about helping you
    Online store: You must wait a lot, sometimes customs go crazy and you end up paying way more than expected, some stores provide limited customer support

  • @nymowo

    "hello"

    "are you squashyboy?"
    edit: Last time I went there some time last year, they also have a $10 discount for every $100 purchase, I think it's just like that all the time. You were also saying how it's more expensive at the IRL store, but it was actually cheaper than me buying it online in Indo, maybe import fees ._. Cool video though.
    Even if it's more expensive I still think that it's a good idea if you're going to the store for the first time building a keyboard, testing out everything is just way better than looking at reviews and sound tests. I feel like MASH lack options on kits though.

      this looks like our SHIRAKAWA keycaps that we designed and released in June/July 2021, but the one in the video appears to be a clone version (and for double the price at that) 😢

    I wish you would do a budget 1800 or fullsize. For poeple that work from home need the num pat or people the perfer that set up. I perfer 1800 there is not a lot of good youtubers that give any atttention to the custom in sizes bigger then tkl.
