The original series 7 was so good, that series 9 sales were lagging. So Braun discontinued the original series 7 and redesigned it with a new series 7 that is supposedly inferior.

Thanks for the video, I baught Series 7 in 2013-14. I was thinking about upgrading to Series 9. But when I visited a store even the guy in the store told me the new ones are not good as the how they used to be. My Series 7 is still going good. I see lotof the comments here align to that. I will be not upgrading.
Ive had the series 7 for many years since 2011-2012 ish. Its so reliable and offers one of the closest shave i had from electric shavers. For that many years I’ve only changed 3 blades for it, unfortunately my series 7’s trimmer broke and I’ve been using it for many years without it. I’ve recently upgraded to series 9 and felt somehow the materials used are not as great as my old pal series 7. Hope time will prove its reliability but i am skeptical it would last as long as my series 7. Parts feels cheap to the touch and construction feels not as solid as well.
I have found that many of the CEO's in the USA have only bottom line profit in line so they can make 22 million dollars at the end of the year maybe it is the same in Europe or maybe not? 40 years ago America produced the best products (quality first), today they out source in many cases just junk that at most will last the warranty period if then? Taiwan seems to produce decent quality and China is a crap shoot sometime good the next time???
Exactly the same experience. I have had a Braun 7, "Pulsonic" model for many years, I couldn't resist the Christmas sale and bought a Braun 9 Pro+. I don't understand how the Braun 9 can have so many excellent ratings when the thing actually gives a very poor shave. Luckily my Braun 9 is covered by a 90 day refund if you are not satisfied, so it will go where it came from and I have to apologize to my old Braun 7… I have changed the battery and trimmer on my old Braun 7 over the years, I hope that replacement parts will be available for a long time and I will be able to use the old Braun 7 for as long as possible. What happened to the world that stopped making better and better things, instead the new things are worse than the old.
series 7 is the best shaver hands down. mine is about 10 years old and works like new. the battery still holds a charge for solid couple of months when not even plugged in. to make the shaving even smoother you can use shaving cream or soap, rinse it off after shaving and run it additionally on the clean station.
I had the chance to check out the Series 9 in person. I have to say, being a Series 7 owner since 2014... that I wasn't impressed enough to see real value in the cost difference. Now in this video I see your Series 7 suffered some silver coating loss near the shave head. Have you been using the cleaning station on a regular basis? As I understand it some non-OEM replacement cleaning cartridges can be more caustic to the plastic. I rarely run mine in the cleaner, because I tap & rinse my cassette periodically. I do a deep clean maybe 4 times a year. My Series 7 is still going strong. No need to upgrade.
You're comparing a shaver (which quite possibly with blunt blades) with a brand new shaver with laser sharp blades, do you think it's a fair comparison ?
I just ordered the Series 9 pro. I think I will give it a 30 day trial and return via Amazon and do the same with the Arc 6. that will let me know what works best for me. My budget is not endless.
It's taking WAY too many passes with that series 7. That's the main reasons most guys don't like using it. When they finally make a one or two "pass" electric razor, then we'll know we've finally "arrived". Great demo though!
Interesting, as I was not satisfied with the Series 7...my neck is problem area for my series 7. I want to try the Series 9 but I am not sure. I do like the Series 7 with the limitations I mentioned.
i have a series 9290 cc with cleaner i can say it is good shaver and very smooth on skin BUT it is really the worst shaver ever this product can't be trusted in serious needs it mulfunctioned many many times i sent it many many times to service center just few months and send it again to service center again and agian and still some indecats it will mulfunctioned sooner
I've had both Series 7 and 9. I much prefer the 7. Closer shave faster with the Series 7. I always try to get German replacement heads for both. They are better than the American ones. I hope Braun keeps making things in Germany but with Proctor & Gamble now owning Braun now, who knows.
I am a bit confused, since you said you had to take so many passes with the 7? Are both motors about the same strength? Never got a clear idea about what you like better about the 7. But I did read some replacement head reviews, that said the original 7 heads were better than the replacements.
Wish I could handle the irritation. No doubt it's great, but not for most. I was trying out an Arc 6 and it gives killer BBS head shaves, but the Series 8 had to clean up with the Arc 6 missed on the neck. It's not great with past 2 day growth at least not with me and that was using shaving cream too to help.
I recently got the latest Arc5 at a bargain and it shaves the closest to wet shave in my opinion. So close that it gets kinda addictive. My problem with it is skin irritation probably because it shaves either so close or that the foil gets too hot or both, even though I always lubricate before use and apply pre-electric shaving lotion. My old series 7 never gets hot regardless of how long it runs or how much pressure you exert though it doesn't even come close to what I get from Arc5. I was gonna give series 9 a go but seeing this video, I think not. Though I wonder how the 9 Pro performs.
Funny you mention the Arc5. I'm new to electric shaving and had been using razors since I was about 13 for the last 25 yrs and finally wanted to get away from it to be able to shave daily. I started easy with the blue braun series 3 i think it is that I which seems to actually well, but I wanted to see if there was something closer now. After researching I settled on the Arc5 a few months back. But it didnt seem to want to cut some of my hairs that lay down and it caused irritation - both of which my braun 3 handled well, interestingly enough. So now after more research I just had this exact brand new Braun series 7 model show up from Amazon. Haven't used it yet though.
@@ronm4865 I also started with Series 3. It was too much of a hassle for me though. Needed too many passes to give a decent shave. My Series 7 was a huge step up in shaving time, quality and comfort. Though I found it has difficulties cutting the hair below a certain length, so it works best if you plan to shave every other day unlike Arc5 which can be used daily. I also have problem with my Arc5 not getting all the hair, specially around the neck and jaw line. I think the problem with these new shavers are the size of their cutting elements that makes them less "maneuverable". The old Series 7 has just the right size in my opinion.
@@mjt9592 I agree thats one of the other tjings about the arc5 I didnt care for was the size of the head. It made it a little too difficult like u mentioned. We'll see how the series 7 works for me. I'm hoping for the best.
He makes No Sence at All. And is full of contradictions. 10 passes with the 7 and area still feels bit Grainy. 4 passes with 9 and the are is much smother. Then shaves whole face with 9 and doesn't get the smooth results that his 7 gives him?? Wtf?? Makes absolutely No sense! Do Not Trust a man who thinks a 5 min charge can Ever give 50 min Shave Time.!
I got the series 9 pro and when I don't shave for 7 days and my hair is thick the 9 pro says it will cut a 7 day beard and it cuts flawless with the Long hair but when I shave a 2 or 3 day stubble I can not get a close shave and it cuts my face badly with irritation! I don't understand how that works but even shaving the 7 day beard is faster and 3 day stubble I'm shaving for an hour!
Where’d you get the gold series 9!?! I’ve used the series 9 for a few years and have seen other barbers use them and have never seen the gold option! That thing is sick!!!!
you get easily a 4x better and more comfortable shave if you use water and a light film of Gel/foam on your face when shaving with any of the Braun shavers, the diff between numbers is only Cuts per second, and more powerful motor. but if you know how to wetshave even the Braun series 3 gets you a Great shave...its not the machine, its who uses it.
there is massive difference between 3 and 7 and less with 7 and 9. The foil is totally different, better on 7/9. I used series 3 for 3 years and upgraded to series 7 when I could easily afford it. Haven't regret it for a moment. Also for me dry shave is better because I don't need to spend any minute preparing early in the morning. I can just cut to the chase and get a good cut with a lot of less effort than on series 3. Everyone has different hair so the opinion will vary. For me series 9 is more for people who also shave their head :)
The 9 is a beast with shaving heads. I am trying out a Series 8 and it does a good job with head shaves, but its really almost night and day with a 9 Pro. Question for many is is that difference worth an extra 150-200 bucks more?@@rapssss
