Hi, do you know why when I go back from gd77 to normal baofeng firmware, the morning monitor squelching stays on without being able to stop it? on gd77 it works normally
Thank You Kevin O'Reilly, excellent tutorial, it worked perfectly for me on x2 of DM 1701. Initially Windows 11 said their was no firmware file then I spotted the drop down menu to the right of files name box, and selected legacy driver then it showed the driver.
I have been having serious difficulty installing the correct driver. Where can i find it? tried every option and just cannot get it to work. any help is much appreciated
Nope,i downgraded to win 10.i leave this radio to another ham, there where cable problems too,the cable from Aliexpress had reverse polarity so he mod the cable so now it works but with win 10,havent tried win11pro yet.but anyway its a decent radio for 50$. 😀
@craniumjunglist8934 you can keep Windows 11. You just need to get an older driver. I was able to download the Prolific 2302 driver. Google search was a huge help.
Just got a 1701 and I've flashed it with GD77 but Im having an issue where it will pulse transmit for a couple of seconds then warn of time out, make any menu change then go back and it will transmit fine the once then go back to refusing to transmit, any ideas?
Im using windows 11 laptop and in the firmware loader its saying its not picking up the radio and its not in dfu mode . Any tips how i can sort this out ? Thanks
I am about to do this (just waiting on the radio arriving). I assume you can use the same cable as a Baofeng FM handheld? I happen to have one of those with an FTDI chip in it so its really easy to use. GM4SVM
Olá, tudo bem? O meu 1701 ao ligar está pedindo uma senha de dois dígitos. Esta escrito assim: "Pin Code". Já coloquei todas as combinações possíveis para dois dígitos e nada. Sabe como resolver isso?
Not sure on encryption as its illegal to use encryption on amateur bands in the UK and in any case I can't really see the point of encrypting an amateur transmission.
it ain't easy with this radio... i've done the upgrade without problems, but after that the cps software does not see the radio anymore... no clue why. however thanks for clear instuction and links! Edit: different driver is responsible for communication with the radio when not in blinking led mode. Win7 seems not to work with the other driver properly. But running the cps as administrator i got the connection right just once(!) and managed to load the list of repeaters. I will upgrade to win10 and see if that help.

I haven't much knowledge on the standard Baofeng firmware on this Radio. I can't get on with it at all.

Thanks again, I’ve just programmed my second 1701 from your instruction, 73.
Glad it helped

Kevin, thank you for the video. My DM1701 gave me a few fits with the COM port and win11Pro. I installed the Dfuse_3.0.6_drivers.zip and it worked!!!
Hi !
Have the same problem, can not get the 1701 work with win11pro,where can i find this driver ?
Many thanks '73
@@maidenjohnnywere you able to find the driver for Windows 11? I'm doing my leg work before purchasing a 1701😅

Im using windows 11. When i try connecting in firmware loader i get radio not connected , or in dfu mode . Is that the problem you had ?

I'm looking forward to flashing mine. Thanks for the great instructions!

You need to put the radio into DFU mode
@KevinOReillyswl yeah its in dfu mode .
@@Cranium1210 didi you install Dfuse_3.0.6_drivers.zip
Im getting an error, the baofeng cant connect to the software pls help
Sounds like a driver problem.
@KevinOReillyswl the cable they included in the package was an serial cable......
@@cojo_1 did you install Dfuse_3.0.6_drivers.zip
Is it possible to flash the original firmware of this radio? I screwed up and forgot to save a backup. 😮

Hello. DM-1701 cables don’t use and FTDI so you’ll probably need a different cable but most orders will include one. :)
@@CC-ty6hn Thanks. There was a correct cable in the box when it arrived.
Actually the same cable as the DM 860, DM 1801 and RD5R

I will have to check this out when the radio arrives, thanks VK3CDE…
Question: Does the DM1701 receive FM broadcast radio too?
No
I have the Baofeng DM 5R with the gd77 installed. Is the 1701 a better radio?
Yes I think the 1701 is a much better radio
Does it offer the same compatible encryption? I know how people feel about encryption, but I just like it as an option.
Not sure on encryption as its illegal to use encryption on amateur bands in the UK and in any case I can't really see the point of encrypting an amateur transmission.

I thought I read that the features are limited to amateur radio frequencies only. Does this lock down the Tx to stay within ham bands?
No
No you can set your band plan .
