If we're doing Mafia stuff, I think the best follow-up would be the mafia's involvement in Operation Gladio. You guys briefly mentioned the Mafia's help against the communists in Sicily, it might be interesting to expand on that.
As the old saying goes “war makes for strange bedfellows” another good one would be “The enemy of my enemy is my friend” and finally “ sometimes you have to except a lesser evil in order to kill a greater one”
Well Al Capone better not try to mess with a trailer park mafias cuz they're known for two things being crazy and being violent but mostly batshit crazy
After the establishment of the republic, the rule of the mafia would continue relatively unchallenged until the magistrates Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino, now martyrs of the motherland, reformed the Italian stance and tactics against the organized crime syndicates. The magistrates decided to fight the mafia with its own weapons, deep infiltration being the first and foremost. So, like the mafia would infiltrate the state, the men of the magistrates would infiltrate the mafia remaining silent and acting like loyal mafiosos for years, often decades, until the order to strike was given. they, as much as any man under their command, knew that this meant that sooner or later they would be killed by the mob, and It happened, but the organization created by Falcone and Borsellino was meant to be, like the mafia, resilient, capable of surviving the death of its Leaders and carry on no matter what. today the tactics of the two magistrates are the utilized by all anti-mafia polices.

2:12 "The mafia were exposed to severe persecution-" Can't they just..Oh i don't know, Stop being criminal thugs with some trappings of "honorable conduct"? Imagine a CoD game where you're some sorta US military rep and you're in the room with Luciano organizing Italian assistance. Then you eventually fight a campaign in Italy and work your way up through Italy and to Germany. Actually would be a great change of pace for a CoD ww2 game
The M1938 Beretta is without a doubt the best submachinegun of WW2. Also, when a criminal organization fights an organized and well trained military force like the Wehrmacht, you know they mean business.

The mafia helping beat the Narzis was like. "Professionals have standards."
You're damn right they do. And it makes a lot of sense that they would have issues with the Nazis as well as the Axis Powers.
call em the Nastis
We got in bed with the Soviets. The mafia is something of an afterthought by comparison
@@hagamapama And we saw how that worked out for us when we had to tango with the USSR in the Cold War.

Well Al Capone better not try to mess with a trailer park mafias cuz they're known for two things being crazy and being violent but mostly batshit crazy
I forgot to mention this he could also wind up being underneath a brand new trailer

Grandfather *yes but actually no *

Yes, I agree
He should have teamed up with the trailer park Mafia They're known for being batshit-crazy and very violent but mostly very batshit-crazy
S to spit on mafia graves

How they managed to make Lucky Luciano into a Cartoon is absolutely amazing
The reason that I loved ❤ this episode a lot is that it brought me back to the year 2011 when my dear ❤ mother brought me an Xbox and I spent the vacation with my brother playing mafia2 😍 such good days that I hope and pray 🙏 to God that they come back again.
Such a great game👍🏿

“Subject to persecution” is a weird way to describe being arrested for Crimes.
Its persecution as long as da evil natsee or fascets are doing it. Not if my good boy allies are doing it *looks at internment camps for the japanese in ww2*.

Wow this is a really an interesting and amazing story I heard this tale long ago but didn't believe it. Thank you to simple history for uploading this episode.
If you're learning italian watch "in guerra per amore" a comical WWII italian film about the invasion of Sicily
What a legend. He voiced that perfectly at the start.
Tremendous documentary filled with facts I've heard nowhere else !!! Bravo, I've found a hidden jem in this channel ❤
2:12 "The mafia were exposed to severe persecution-" Can't they just..Oh i don't know, Stop being criminal thugs with some trappings of "honorable conduct"? I'm pretty sure thats the only reason they were "persecuted" in the first place. If your goal wasn't to drum up some kind of empathy for these "good fellas", Then you probably should've used a word like "Arrested".
Mafiosos were a minority, thats why they got persecuted
So this is pretty much "The Enemy of my Enemy is my Friend "
more like the enemy of my enemy is my client
Mobster steps on a land mine:
HEY! I’m walking here...
So, basically, the Allies ruined my country in the process.
Grazie, Americani! :)
Ur welcome lol
Fascism is way worse than Mafia rule lol
The mob is more honorable than politicians
Sorry
The allies couldn't have ruined Italy any more if they tried. As Churchill said, Italy was Europe's soft underbelly.
Speaking as a Canadian, i feel i can say they've ruined a lot of shot
My grandfather told me all about this he fought in WWII and was from Sicily he was a Translator for the US army
You remember that old saying? “The enemy of my enemy is my friend”

Was at a gun show and saw a US marked revolver that was given to the Boston mobsters to protect the sea ports as the Navy was mostly in the pacific theater. Was stupid expensive, but had all the paperwork proving it was verified. Way too expensive, and not my type of firearm, but had a cool story nonetheless.
