@@saguntum-iberian-greekkons7014 I don't deny the fact that German Americans were treated badly, during the 1st World War. But likewise, Catholic Irish, the Polish, and the Chinese were treated very badly prior to WW1. In fact, the German Immigrates had it fair more easyer time, immigrating to America, since most were protestant, and had a working culture. It was only during the first World War, that Germans were treated badly of the first time. Plus, many did fear that German Americans would riot, and revolt against America for going to war against Germany. I can't blame them if they wanted to defend there ancastral land from, the Soviets. But America was there adopted Country, and they fought against there fellow country man. If that's not traitorous, then I don't know what is.

One of my elderly friends (passed away several years ago) was a forward artillery observer under Patton's army. He was apparently really good at snatching prisoners, and often got that job. He told me one time he grabbed a German soldier around the time of the Bulge......got him back to their rear area and started talking to him.....turns out he was from Wisconsin, about an hour or two from our town here in NE Iowa. Same deal as mentioned here- the parents packed up and moved to Germany in 39'. He spoke perfect english, graduated from high school in Wisconsin, and moved with the family. After the war and spending time in an American POW camp, the guy from Wisconsin moved back here and he and my old friend became lifelong friends. My older friend met a german girl at the end of the war and he brought her home after they did their hitch occupying Germany after the war. Super neat people, got to meet them all at the VFW as a kid going to meetings with my dad.
Wow, that's such a nice story, it's good you kept memories like that alive, many were lost because not many people bother to listen or the vets didn't like re living the terrible days. They truly were the greatest generation.
My grandparents emigrated from Germany to the US in the mid-30s. When the US joined the war my grandfather was drafted and sent to Africa to fight. When it came to invade Italy they sent him home because he was a full blooded German and the Army didn't want to cause an incident (someone thinking he's a spy, him defecting to the other side, etc) so they sent him home.
A third of Americans have German ancestry, People from over 50 countries fought for Germany and not necessarily of German descent. A million Russians fought in the German army and a million other foreign nationals fought in the German army and the waffen SS, including 60 thousand fore-skinless ones. The U-toob algorithm would not like that at all.

The Santos Patricio's. The ones who were captured during the war were dealt with in two different ways: If they deserted before the war, they were branded and released. The ones who deserted during the war were court martialed and hung when the American flag was raised over Chipaltec(?) after it was captured. Mass execution under Winfield Scott's direct orders.
Here is something for you all. My dad was 1st generation German/American. He served in the U.S. Navy in WW2 and served the Pacific. One of his great uncles served in the Afrika Korps. My mom was born and raised in Nova Scotia, Canada and 1 of her uncles was in the Canadian army and landed on Juno Beach during D Day.
An American bomber crewman (Jewish in fact) who bailed out of his damaged plane over Germany was approached by a youth, who asked in very good English if he was one of the airmen the Germans were seeking. The crewman said yes and how come he spoke such good English. The youth replied that he had gone to high school in Milwaukee.

That reminds me what Pierre Clostermann, French top ace fighters pilot during WWII, wrote : one day he had a mission over France, before the D-Day, and after he landed back he learnt that a German pilot named… Klostermann; one of his distant relatives, died in combat a few miles away from where he flew the same day. USA: Treats German Americans poorly.
German Americans: Side with Germany.
USA: :-O
They were traitors, since they fired at there fellow country man, and that one who stole a plane.
I can understand if wanted to fight the Soviets, but against there own country man? No. Just no.
Americans: But why did they joined the very enemy, we don’t get it! »

Well seems like he’s lucky, the allies did a lot of trials it seemed on otherwise innocent people.

Nice story thanks for sharing

The Santos Patricio's. The ones who were captured during the war were dealt with in two different ways: If they deserted before the war, they were branded and released. The ones who deserted during the war were court martialed and hung when the American flag was raised over Chipaltec(?) after it was captured. Mass execution under Winfield Scott's direct orders.
