my opinion on golden rooms is that it's just an extension of final room syndrome. The golden is likely the final final thing you'll ever do in the map, so some creators feel the need to keep you just a bit longer. Also, choking on a golden room feels terrible, even a tiny chance of that isn't worth a super extra bonus final conclusion. If you want a golden room-like experience, try just changing the dialogue, or making a museum of sorts, or a thanks for playing room. Don't have an extra challenge.
Something that the vanilla game got right that modders may have lost sight of is having restraint with what you add. The original golden room in Farewell is interesting because it's a surprising, one-off thing. But if it becomes common in maps and the mechanic is fleshed out as far as you can take it, that cheapens the idea.
fun fact, I toyed with the idea of a golden room in cosmic column c-side, but ultimately ended up scrapping it because the ending was already pretty climactic and there wasn't really a good reason why there should be a golden room. While messing with ideas, I did make a very silly room that still exists in the debug map though (which was definitely too harsh for a golden room but I decided it was funny so kept it)
15:31 9D actually technically has this in its platinum run. After reuni, there is usually a mandatory death-warp to start PONR (the start of the map’s recon section) but when you have a platinum there’s a block placed that allows you to skip it, pretty neat

As for Open Sea, it gives you a bino at the start of the silver room so you can analyze the room when you get there, but the room does feel a bit difficult to execute on a first attempt. Since the map is so short though, it’s a nice additional challenge and is funny.

I've only made one map, but I like to make a hard room behind the start of the map that holds the golden berry; So you have to do a challenge room before starting attempts. (It gives a re-spawn, so you only have to clear the gold room once, for any number of concurrent attempts.) It has some drawbacks, but is also a great way to implement a room that would otherwise be a bit to hard for a normal strawberry.
That idea makes a lot more sense & could potentially even help mitigate the difficulty gap between beating a long level normally & beating it deathless, which is the main thing that's likely to make a player lose interest in golden strawberries. Normally, there's no interesting goal between beating a level normally & beating it deathless, which can make getting the hardest golden strawberries such a grind that it wouldn't even feel climactic to someone who's not extraordinarily patient.
I haven’t even golded Farewell yet but seeing the golden room awakes a sense of deep anxiety 😅 Great video btw! I remember Arphimigon's 6D forcing you through the badeline fight sequence if you have the golden, which is otherwise a part that's entirely optional. When Arphi added that forced route, the wall blocking you from the easy path was skippable though, making that golden much easier than it was supposed to be. It was quickly patched though :D
IF i make a map wIth a gold room, im going to make it optional, and have a three path way thing, one for credits, one for the heart, and one for the gold room (and yes im going to label them)

@@snolls105 death warping is part of double moon berry golden, it doesn't lose the golden strawberry. I haven't done any level editing but I'm sure you can ask someone how to add it :)

An extra unmentioned room in a golden strawberry run is a great way to remove all the satisfaction from eventually getting the golden strawberry. You won. You did the challenge. And then they just take it away after you already succeeded. As for using tools to practice in advance, that just highlights what a disrespectful & garbage concept the golden rooms where you can actually die already inherently are. Playing them without practicing them is unreasonable. If the only reasonable way to do something removes the whole point of its existence, the dev should've just left it out. Imagine if you finished an all SSS run of Devil May Cry 3 & then the game autosaved & put you in an entirely new room where you have to fight some scythe enemies & you won but you got a SS so the game just put you back on the title screen & when you checked your save, all your ranks were blank. Capcom employee's lives would be in danger.
