What I find interesting is how these, "The Evolution of....." videos were integral to Pentatonix rewriting the model for how to succeed in the music industry. The old model was a band plays small clubs and pitches their music to the record publishers who sign them to a contract where the record company calls the shots. Pentatonix, having been dropped by the record company, gave these very complex, high quality recordings away for free on the internet to build a fan base. With an established following and millions of views for their videos PTX then had the muscle to negotiate a contract from a much stronger position. The business model they used to get where they are would be an interesting case study on how social media is changing the music industry.
This medley is just wild!! As amazed as I am with Mitch's high notes, what really gets me is how he can seamlessly jump down from head to chest/mix! Totally insane! Great reaction! I don't mind your pauses because a lot of cool info is learned then.
There's a great concert, Popspring 2016, that is 4 songs, about15 minutes long they do three originals and this evolution. It's fabulous, sound is awesome and it's amazing how they do this live in one take almost exactly the same. Plus the originals are also awesome. I recommend it if you want to are some live performances.
Definitely worth the time to view/react to...not only is it a chance to see the MJ evolution live but the sound quality is awesome. All PTX members really shine!
Yet another vote for Popspring - really is epic, plus you get Mitch doing the rap in "Can't Sleep Love" that Tink does in the studio version and is missing in the official video, PLUS Kirstin leading in "Water," which she wrote and there is no official video for. There's quite a few reasons so many fans request this one.
There are those who only want to see facial reaction, hence, no pause in the video. Most of us prefer content describing how you feel, your thoughts on the musicality, harmony, etc. You do a great job and can stop as much as you feel is appropriate for you to get your content across. I mean after all, we follow you as much as Pentatonix. Keep up the great work.
Don’t apologize for pausing, especially when you have such great comments! As for why the second 🎤, I always thought it was because they could finally afford a better setup.
Watch Aha Singapore Star Vista! Live cell phone video of Mitch and Avi going off!! I’d LOVE to hear your reaction! I really enjoy the pauses and how you educate while enjoying the music!!
I don't mind your pausing at all. I like hearing all the details and all the things you notice about such a talented group. I appreciate hearing what you have to say. Thanks for your reactions! Take care!
My thoughts exactly! She is talented, and maybe it is because I am too old, but I literally cannot understand her when she sings, her style is so breathy. I love PTX performing the song because I can actually understand the words and I love how into it they are, especially Mitch and his rapping!
Great reaction as always! Don't apologize for pausing. I think the way you do it is perfect. I like how you usually rewind a couple of seconds when you pause so that you don't miss any transitions. Keep it up! :) I saw them perform this evolution live on stage. It sounded amazing. The ease with which they reproduce this is just crazy. To us humans it seems impossible but they do stuff like this without breaking a sweat.
I’ll admit your reaction style took a few vids to get used to, but now I really like it. You pause because you have something to say that adds value beyond the “wow that’s amazing” reactors which are fun to watch for different reasons. Don’t apologize or change!
Their "evolution" mashups are even more amazing when they perform them live in their concerts. They performed their "Evolution of Ariana Grande" during their most recent concert tour - stunning!
Your comments and insights are refreshing coming from a true musician. The Popspring 2016 performance had this Evolution live. It was in Japan where those Japanese sound engineers did an excellent job balancing their mics. I think they include one of their Evolution in their concerts. For 2019-2020 tour (pre-pandemic), it was the Ariana Grande Evolution. Putting all these songs together? It's genius! Why do Avi and Kevin each has a mic..maybe they can afford them by this time lol. (That was a joke) thanks looking forward to the next one
I’ve never understood comments complaining about reactors pausing, especially ones that have such interesting and informative insights as you do. But I suppose you can’t please everyone, there are even some people out there that don’t like Pentatonix 🤷♀️. I love watching your reactions, I always learn from you - keep it up please!
I love when reactors pause the video to remark on things, then back up and play it again so we can hear exactly what they're referencing. It helps us to appreciate the genius of PTX even more!
I love that you pause. I listen to reaction videos to get reactions. My favorite reactions are by people who are able to make educated comments about music, production, etc. So keep pausing!!! I really enjoy your videos.
One thing that blows me away is the talent. Not just in one group but think about the three members from the same high school. Mitch, Scott and Kirsty were singing together at Arlington Martin HS in DFw Tx.
There's so much, on so many levels, to love and be amazed by in Pentatonix "evolution of..." videos, but what I especially appreciate is that they choose to end them all with, of all the lyrics available, something that is uplifting and positive, and in this instance (MJ), profound and poignant. It just speaks volumes about who they are.
Thanks for the evolution videos. My favorite is EVOLUTION of RHIANNA, and I thought I didn't know any of her songs, but I did ! Mitch's parts are amazing, and they are all having fun. Their blending, change-ups, and key changes are fantastic.
I love the way, like you said, that they keep up with tempo and key changes so perfectly. And there is also the way they know when to be loud or soft, who should be the focus at any given moment. I have listened to these Evolutions so many times, trying to focus on one person at a time. It's amazing when you single each one out, how much they're doing, even when the main focus is elsewhere.
Great reaction, as always. I don't mind the pauses, I like to hear your opinion. 😉 If you like their evolution videos I think you might also enjoy some Superfruit (Mitch and Scott) "Evolution of Lady Gaga" , "Anti Medley (Rihanna cover)" , "Beyonce" , "Empire Medley" "Defying gravity" and "1989" .
I enjoy your Pentatonix reactions and I appreciate you for sharing your musical knowledge with us. I just realized that I had not yet subscribed. Subscribed.
I watched an interview with Scott filmed last year and he said the evaluation videos were by far the most difficult to put together and learn. The evaluation of music was the most difficult of all according to him. Great reaction and info!
I've done some mashups with my band and just to mashup 3 songs we break our heads for one whole day😂 I don't know how ptx does it! But they always nail it!💯🔥
In concert, their tempo is 100% controlled by five synced click tracks with cues and pitches. If they can all hear each other like when this was recorded they leave off the "in ears" and it all comes down to talent and PRACTICE.
They never need more than three or four takes in the studio, that's how well-prepared they are. Even more amazing, the studio people say that as time progresses, they get better and better-prepared, I don't even know how that's possible. There's a very recent video of them collaborating with Little Glee Monster called "My Dear Friend" and they did a "first-take" video of the song on The First Take channel on TH-cam. No retakes! You might want to check it out.
Ben Bram did a lot of their arranging but not sure if he did on this one. He is a musical genius. He co-founded Avi's brain child, A Capella Academy. Avi, Ben and one other gentleman have done absolutely great things with the young people in that group when it comes to all things a Capella music. Not sure if I sent you a video of the choir singing, but they do a song Avi wrote titled; The Seed. It would not be a reaction song, but beautiful to listen to and get an idea of the dedication of Avi and Ben. I d not keep with the new PTX but in these videos, the "trio" were probably late teens so the voice of Mitch was still very thin.
They can do this because they all have a great musical instinct, rehearse a lot and are singing machines. Lol. When you watch their tour videos, guess what they do when they’re not giving a show? They sing, yep! just for the fun of it, and then they come up with new ideas. I agree with your observations, I think pretty much all Pentaholics feel the same way. Thanks. 🤗
Scott and Mitch did some evolutions and medleys as Superfruit too. They are amazing too. They also did Hip Hop goes Broadway part 1 and 2. They are awesome and hilarious. If you ever so Superfruit, always watch the outtakes after the Subscribe screen at the end.
@@JacobRestituto loved it, I love learning about all the music stuff, I've listened to pentatonix since 2013 and it's really interesting finding out more about the production side. They do wonderful medleys. You should check out the Superfruit medleys with Mitch and Scott. Brilliant
Mitch's voice is actually a bit too high for a lot of Michael's songs. Scott fits most of them, since he's closer to Michael's range on the majority of his songs
The inconsistency (for lack of a better word lol) in the number of mics they use has always been really interesting me. i’ve noticed that the more demanding an arrangement might be, especially for the bass, they’ll usually do a personal mic im assuming to make sure everything is heard as intended. not sure tho, just a guess. love the videos!
I can't remember if you've reacted to Aha! Live Singapore but if not you should. Watch the Aha! official video first and then watch that. Mitch is so good
Jacob, I know this recommendation will be a little different, but you should react also to Todrick Hall's "The Wizard of Ahhs" featuring Pentatonix. It is a short retelling of The Wizard of Oz with a modern twist. Todrick is so amazingly talented. The video really is a mini production and just one of many, many, many Todrick has on YT. If you don't know Todrick, he has been on YT for a long time, has performed on Broadway (Waitress, Kinky Boots, etc), and has worked with and produced for many artists, including most recently with Taylor Swift on her "You Need to Calm Down" song/video that won them many awards including a Grammy, etc.
Also if you are worried about pausing. I seen a great format. Watch videos twice. Once watch it and react quietly. Second time pause and explain. It works
Many of their earlier videos were the 5 of them on a couch singing in to a one or two mics. Their produced videos are amazing but don't hit like these raw couch videos. Spend some time in some of these early live on a mic videos. Some good ones are "Evolution of Music," "Thrift Shop,'" "Wide Awake" and there are so many more. Also Mitch and Scot's side project Superfruit have some really good live recorded evolutions of Lady Gaga, Miley Cirus, Beyonce's Lemonade album and some great original produced music.
& final points 1~ its your channel you can oause away lolz 2~ they jus got their ✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️on Hollywood Walk of FAME 🥰 & 3~ Mitchust be protected at ALL COSTS ❤️🔥🙏❤️🔥
I would rather you pause, rather than talk through the singing and I want to hear your thoughts and notes. Great fun! I love their evolution of Rhianna.
I love it when Kevin and Avi are up front as you can easily see how hard they work with their transitions etc. Love Avi...Any chance you can 'react' to his first hit single as a solo artist? with Change On The Rise He creates all the sounds with his voice and except for the clapping he used an organ in one part. th-cam.com/video/382BTxLNrow/w-d-xo.html The cinematography is incredible. Thanks Jacob.
Thanks to the pandemic seeing them live is not going to happen soon. The next best thing, you should check out their 2016 Popspring performance recorded by/for MTV with top-notch audio and video. Because you get a triple dose of originals along with their excellent 'Evolution of Michael Jackson' medley. 'Cracked' has Scott (tall blond) bluesy soul lead, 'Can't Sleep Love' is just a fun pop song oh yeah and Mitch (high voiced brunette) raps, and last 'Water" is written and led by Kirstin. Link @pnzk
Personally I prefer you pausing and talking about things you notice. If I just wanted to listen to the song I'd go to their channel. I especially like when you pause and comment on something, and then especially when you rewind a bit and let us hear what you just mentioned
There's a video (I can't find) where people who shoot their videos says that PTX comes in well prepared and usually need only 2-3 takes. For behind-the-scenes videos, see th-cam.com/video/5yU9wFVzZoE/w-d-xo.html and th-cam.com/users/FifGenFilmssearch?query=Pentatonix
How do we realize the work 'they've' put into it? By being there for the last 10+ years and following everything they had scheduled. Watching The Sing-Off on NBC from the 3rd Season debut ALL the way through to the night they won! It's all flooding back now...lol...I'll bet there are a few others who would like to chime in! PTXofficial - it's their channel - drop by and learn something personal, a pet peeve perhaps, favorite food...fall in love. Pentaholics are the very best people... they'll be right on the spot with any answer you request. Always with a smile. I'm gonna quit while I'm ahead...with one suggestion. Try meditation. Now, sit, relax, and enjoy music for a change...just .l I s t e n. ☺️
Jacob, I like your reactions. I always learn something - or you hear something - that I didn't pick up. One note though. Do you realize you rarely single out Kirsten for comment in any of your PTX reaction videos? In this performance for instance, whenever she sings, you say, "nice." But you call out the male performers by their name with individual comments. Maybe it's 'cause I'm female that I pick up on it, but, just sayin'....
It makes me so sad to see just how underappreciated Kirstie is. Realistically I feel she needs to leave the group to fully get the kind of appreciation she deserves. All you ever hear from anybody is Mitch this and Mitch that and Scott and Kevin and Avi and now even matt gets more love than she does. I know in reality she doesn't care but the only way she will ever get the same recognition as the rest of the group has would be to leave it. It makes me sad how often things Kirstie does get automatically attributed to Mitch is super sad. She does so much for the group but nobody ever seems to see it that I think it would take her leaving for people to notice what she does.
She sang a lot of the leads on this year's Christmas album. Her high notes on Seasons of Love are C6 and D6. Higher than anything Mitch has ever done. They just didn't get to do videos because of Covid so most reactors haven't listened to it.
Hey Jacob, I truly like your reactions, because they are informative...however, I think you need to reduce your pausing by 1/3... becomes a bit frustrating listening to the song when it takes double the time to hear the music.
Please react to a filipino singers like: *Moresite Amon *Katrina Velarde *Budhakhel *Regine Velasquez *Jona Viray *Kz Tandingan *Daryl Ong *Bugoy *Micheal Pangilinan *Jaya And promise you will enjoy it and offcourse they have massive followers thats can help your youtube channel grow. Thank
This is my favorite Evolution video! I think you would enjoy their cover of "Gold". Mitch is unbelievable in it.
I agree. Gold is a masterclass. It is a live, one-take performance.
Gold! ✨🙌
Cool thanks!
Yes Gold!!
I'm amazed EVERY TIME they start passing around the lead only one note at a time! Totally Awesome! 💖
Not only do they hit those notes live, but for this medley they also hit them while doing a bunch of choreography....I LOVE your reactions!!!

Please react to The Dance of the Sugar Plum Faries. My mouth is still hanging open.
Pentatonix
U should react to their cover of Megan Trainer's No and their cover of Cheerleader.
By being
there for the last 10+ years and following everything they
had scheduled. Watching The Sing-Off on NBC from the
3rd Season debut ALL the way through to the night they
won! It's all flooding back now...lol...I'll bet there are a few
others who would like to chime in! PTXofficial - it's their
channel - drop by and learn something personal, a pet
peeve perhaps, favorite food...fall in love. Pentaholics
are the very best people... they'll be right on the spot
with any answer you request. Always with a smile.
I'm gonna quit while I'm ahead...with one suggestion.
Try meditation. Now, sit, relax, and enjoy music for a
change...just .l I s t e n. ☺️

Most of the "evolution of" mashups by them are a 1 take recording!
Kevin was singing tenor when he wasn’t beatboxing.
I don't know why people are watching you if they don't want your **REACTIONS**. They can watch the videos on their own with no interruptions.
LOL
