Pentatonix has a fantastic way of blending their vocal talents to create unique renditions of popular songs. While they haven't released a specific medley titled "The Evolution of Michael Jackson," they often cover various Michael Jackson songs in their style.
If they were to create such a medley, you could expect a seamless transition between hits like "Thriller," "Billie Jean," and "Beat It," showcasing their harmonies, beatboxing, and dynamic arrangements. It would likely highlight the evolution of Michael Jackson's sound and style over the years, capturing both the energy of his earlier work and the depth of his later hits.
Kevin Olusola not only beatboxes, he's also a superb cello player. He has created a form called "celloboxing".
This is very early Pentatonix. The three in the back were in high school together - Mitch, Scott and Kirstin. They added Avi (bass) and Kevin (beat boxer, tenor, cellist, saxophone player...he does it all!) when they entered The Sing Off show in 2011. Mitch is called a counter tenor...the highest male voice there is! The group, to this day, tries to highlight all the singers during their songs. They really weren't trying to sound like MJ, just honoring his history in song. I would recommend one of their most recent videos, Kiss from a Rose, a live Vevo performance that has Kevin (KO) playing an electric cello. If you're interested in sound mixing, I'd also recommend "Down" by Kevin (Olusola). It's amazing!
This!!! Exactly my comment!!!
They made me feel, happy.🙂 Those voices!! RIP Michael. ⭐️
I think it was a great expression of M.J.'s songs. It was easy to forget the long road to becoming that man in the mirror he ended up being. For all the contoversy about his life and lifestyle, you couldn't deny he was the voice of America for decades. People waited to see/hear where Michael would go with his next musical creation. He is truly missed.
Avi Kaplan left the group in 2017 and was replaced by Matt Sallee. Kirstin, Mitch (EMO) and Scott went to high school together in Texas.
Loved watching you guys enjoying and chair dancing....like I was!!!! These acapella groups, PTX and Home Free just blow me away! Such amazing talent!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
They were in a competition called The Sing Off, an Acapella group competition. Check it out and see their cover of Let's Get it On
A brand-new experience for my ears!!
Have to listen again to catch what I'm missing...
I really enjoyed your reaction! I suggest a more recent release by them to see how they have evolved (Daft Punk was 2013 and Evolution of MJ was 2015). Their 2023 Vevo studio live performance of their "Kiss From a Rose" cover would be a great choice. So far, you have only heard Avi, their original bass (the rest of the band is the same as it was when they founded it in 2011, Avi left in 2016). "Kiss From a Rose," includes their current bass, Matt, and also Kevin sings, beatboxes and plays electric cello (at the same time as beatboxing for some of it - he calls it celloboxing, lol). There are a ton of Pentatonix cover songs, amazing original songs, Christmas songs, original Christmas songs, collaborations, mash-ups, medleys, and solo side projects, (Mitch's solo music is under the name Messer; Mitch and Scott have a duo called Superfruit; and Kevin, Kirstin, Avi, Matt, and Scott have original songs and covers under their own names). This rabbit hole is HUGE and I'm here for it, 100%.
Thank you so much for this. Always on board for PTX. And to do this in one take. They do a few in one take and decide on one. They are amazing and make my heart sing. And who doesn't love MJ? Supposed to sleep but my feet are dancing. Appreciate you. Greetings from South Africa
The dude with the high voice is Mitch, a counter tenor
That was fantastic!
Great reaction! I will never get tired of hearing Pentatonix, they are amazing. All of them are important to this group. Take one person out and it would not sound the same. Scott is an amazing singer, they were not trying to sound like MJ, this is more of a tribute like they do with other artists. They even add something that the original singer does. Would love to see you react to Scott Hoying by himself on his channel singing "I Should Tell Your Momma On Ya" holy crap is he talented! Avi is amazing too, he went on his own and tours all the time. Kevin Osuala has his own channel, react to "DOWN" he is incredible, not only beat boxing but singing, plays the Cello and graduated from Medical school.
"Emo dude and Shorty"...I don't think I'll ever get that out of my head lol
Thanks guys-- Fun Reaction!!
One of my favorite mashups by this talented group!! 💜💜💜
❤❤❤
Great reaction! They are super talented.
Get it, Corey!!!
The top center singer (Scott) sang the lead for some of the song fragments for 3 reasons... 1) What made Michael a great singer was that he had a pure tone in his higher range (replicated by the two other singers) but also had grit in his lower range (Scott covers that lower range and has the grit... the other two singers have pure tone and would not sound good singing those particular leads). ... 2) song arrangement, some of the instrumentals for the song fragments needed tight harmonies which the female and higher male could cover, leaving Scott to do the lead... 3) PTX is truly a "group" and nobody is set up as the main singer of the group, even in a Michael Jackson medley the beatboxer and the bass get a turn singing the lead
AWESOME!!!
I actually live down the street from the one in the front with the beard ‘s parents ( the really low base ) his name is Avi Kaplan . The family is pretty nice. He’s no longer with the group but he does his own music and it’s pretty good too.
You're loving it, Corey...
My hubby introduced them to me several years ago. I forgot how great they are, so thanks for the reminder. 🤓 If you liked this, try Home Free - Man of Constant Sorrow. When I first heard it, I needed serious convincing that there weren't any instruments in it...other than their vocal chords. Haha!! Much love from Oregon! ❤
I'd love to hear your reaction to Home Free, another phenomenal acapella group, sing "man of constant sorrow." I think it would blow you away.
The tall guy in the middle is Scott. And you're the first and ONLY person that I've ever heard complain about his voice not just on this cover, but EVER!!! Are you kidding me??
He’s amazing. Mind boggling
I mean they not wrong
It's his opinion! And he wasn't questioning if Scott could sing, just that he didn't think he should do as many high solos. Finally, he's not the only reactor or commenter to say that Scott has, at times, sung parts that were not in a comfortable range, and sometimes sings louder over the others. In my OPINION, Kiss From a Rose is a perfect example of both.
i know plenty of ptx fans who don't love scott's voice in certain ranges, or have similar preferences and opinions about the other members of ptx. different people just like different things - c'est la vie !
You should take a moment and consider the possibility that people are allowed to have a dissenting opinion. No one said it was bad, no one was disrespectful or unfair. They simply gave their opinions about what did and did not work FOR THEM. Scott Hoying does not need you to defend every note that comes out of his mouth, and it is possible to enjoy an artist, and not be totally on board with everything they do.
This is grat love it ❤️👑❤️Michael will love this ❤️❤️❤️
Recommend their cover of The Prayer.
Would love to see a reaction to MJ‘s Full 1988 Grammy Awards Performance!! Much love from Germany, huge MJ Fan here! 🐐
This just shows how many Hits Mike has, it’s crazy! And they ain’t even include all of em! 😮💨
Emo dude is Mitch and Shoty is Kirsten. Who sings depends on the sound they're going for. They all do get their time to shine and know how to step back when they should.
wow that was amazing, just fire
PTX are the masters of the mashup
MJ&PTX for this week's playlist😁
I was a little annoyed they left out "In the Closet" that's a song that doesn't get a lot of love, but it's definitely one of my favourites by MJ.
Ollie knows how to best put things in perspective sometimes!
(My wish is for the real Michael Jackson songs put into a "best of", short and sweet!)
Thanks for the reaction. Check out Kissed from a Rose and 90s Dance Medley.
There is the evolution of Beyonce, Rihanna and Ariana Grande.
I agree with OlllWooDDA's assessment of Scott. I love his voice, too, but it was just a bit offputting.
My favorites (I've watched almost everything they've done) are Over the River, Bohemian Rhapsody, Hallelujah (both the older version and the newer one), Seasons of Love where Kirsten (shorty) REALLY shines, and Imagine.
Kevin Olusolo does sing when he isn’t using his mouth to beatbox. He is a tenor.
Sound of silence by PTX is a MUST !!
Check out bohemian rhapsody the official video or the live version they just released and check out KISS From a Rose.
😅👉OHELLNO!! The oiiidooda guy is WRONG!!! LOL! so here I'm sending my daggers/arrows to you😁....
Scott, the tall guy is a baritone with a HUGE vocal range, plus he is extremely soulful and is known as the King of riffs and runs. And he did his leads justice!
YES NONE OF THEM are trying to SOUND like mj .
👉👉It's an Evolution , A tribute.
Kirstie is an Alto /mezzo soprano, and Mitch is a counter tenor SO DUH!! of course their pitch is higher but the whole thing would sound WEIRD with just high pitch voices so Scott's vocals in between makes this evolution more interesting.
And like someone said. NEVER have we heard anyone complain about Scott's leads in this. ESPECIALLY coming from someone who obviously doesn't know music because you can't even express what your trying to say or know any musical terms.😂
The reason this group is THE GREATEST and set. the bar SKY HIGH is how they arrange and lead the songs.
They have an INCREDIBLE vocal blend every one of them is EXTREMELY TALENTED.
Back row left to right is
Mitch Grassi sings counter tenor, tenor
Mitch changes his look A LOT!!
Scott Hoying, sings baritone, sings bass when the bass has a lead, hit HIGH falsettos.
Kirstie (Kirsten) Maldonado sings mezzo soprano, Alto
Front left to right:
Avi (Ah-vee) Kaplan sings bass, baritone, overtone. was og member from 2011 to 2017 (left on good terms)
Kevin Olusula (Olu-shu-la) or (K .O) beatboxing, tenor, plays cello
......Matt Sallee ((not in this video)) (replaced Avi in late 2017) sings bass, baritone
Home Free is my favorite of the Acapella groups. Avi Kaplan ex Pentatonix member has a great song Change On the Rise. Please delve in to both groups.
I don’t care about anything, I love Micheal Jackson and will forever
Please react to Boz Scaggs “JoJo”.. It’s about a Pimp on Broadway!! You will LOVE LOVE IT!!
Remember the time was so short was because, that it all they could clear my MJ’s team. Same happened when they covered Aaliyah’s Are You That Somebody. Timberland holds that song close. As he should.
Hey fella's it George's wife.😂 request JJ Jackson-But Its Alright (rare video footage) you must see his moves and the white peoples out of time clapping. I can say that cuz im white😁
Much love! We got yall!!!
You might enjoy PTX performing live at the 2017 Grammy in a tribute to Jackson 5. th-cam.com/video/i4b2lWEujbY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=QRT-pIt-bJ32Sjhq
Scott (tall blond) is a baritone. They all try to switch off, just because Michael sang in a higher range doesn’t mean others cant sing it in a different range. This was done in one take, so they can’t do every song. You might learn their names before you insult the fans with your nicknames.
You might watch/ react to their Evolution of Rihanna.
The shorty (Kirstin) in Latina, not Asian.
calling mitch emo dude 😂roast his ass
Alright, Fenom...
Please check out Home Free
If they ever do use instruments, they are front and center.
Well, you gents are about to experience the consequences of saying ANYTHING that isn't a full throated worship of Pentatonix. The cult will come for you. You will learn that you are NEVER to criticize Pentatonix. Because God forbid that you be allowed to say that something didn't exactly work for you, yet still be a fan of the group. Pentatonix can do no wrong, NONE. You must love every note of every song you hear.
LMAO! We get that a lot of push back from people when we keep it real! We are prepared!!
Avi...
Mitch is great but Scott is the star. I felt he did a Great Job. You guys need to research what each person sings. throwing out tenor baritone emmo crap . They have a team that selects who sings what and what songs to choose. They also have to be able to transition smoothly and they did a fantastic job. If you keep going on all songs, you can find something to critisize. Also by the way they did do Beat It. If they did all the songs they would still be singing. sorry they didnt do all the ones you like but maybe next time they will confer with you guys to get your approval. smgdh. I have seen this reviewed by at least 50 reviews and you guys had the most critisism by far
Unfortunately Fil over on the Wings of Pegasus channel just proved that Pentatonix is autotuned to ridiculous levels. They simply do not sound that good normally.
Yeah okay
Guess you’ve never seen them live?
@@chrispavlich9656 go take a listen to the Wings of Pegasus channel and you will see incontrovertible evidence of autotuning and pitch correction. It has unfortunately become an industry standard now. What they are singing into the microphones is not what you are hearing come out of the concert speakers. It has been tuned so that they always hit the perfect notes every single time even when they don't.
@@cpmf2112 How many records has he sold?
@@chrispavlich9656 how many would it take to convince you that autotuning and pitch correction are being done with Pentatonix? 🙄
I am sorry if you didn't know but it is unfortunately far more common than most people realize.
