Thank you kind sir I just bought a cheap small telescope (I'm a beginner) and this video helped me a lot
"You look through the refractor... everybody knows that."
What's a refractor?
refractor is a type of telescope, the one you probably think of when you think "telescope" -- its lens is mounted on the "bottom" and you look through that (in line with how the scope is pointing), a reflector uses mirrors to bounce the light to a lens typically mounted on the side (makes viewing things high in the sky easier/possible)
Steve Smith he/she is asking what is a refractor not reflector.
They were explaining both
@@Nobody-ty1il The refractor is the one on the left the reflector is the thicker telescope on the right. 0:10
brilliant intro to astronomy Will ! Good on you for showing what can actually be found with a small scope - a lot of people don't realise they can also enjoy a lot of objects with simple 10 x 50 binoculars.
Thank you for your help. I just bought a bushnell sky chief 1 telescope at Goodwill for my son and you made this adventure much easier for this 46 old kid : )
yes, the moon is very bright.when you want to see nebulae try to do it on very dark nights with no moon.
This was really helpful! Thank you!
Thanks for the great advice! I'll definitely use it the next time I use my celestron
Thanks for this. I'm going to put my first telescope together tomorrow. And this has really helped.
Thank you for posting this. Very helpful!!!!!
Bless! I appreciate your video the most from my the rest of the internet.
Thank you! That was very informative. Now my hubby and I can tweak a few things we're doing wrong with our new telescope.
Thanks so much for this video I am just getting into it and am really excited.
Thanks just what I was looking for
Learned a great deal. Thx
I have a telescope precision optics 262.5 and used it tonight for the first time under clear skies below zero, which is rare for some parts of the UK. Thank you for your tuition on, how to use a telescope. I will definatelty take your advice on-board for future references
I am so glad you posted this video. My son and I are new to this hobby, and after finally obtaining a telescope, we used it during the day and found it to be easy to use, but come the night, completely opposite. Your pointers are very helpful and will try them very soon and will keep you posted on how it goes. Thanks again for your time.
Very helpful, thanks!!
Thank you this has helped me a lot !
I have that small one
I've seen the moon and a small circle of Venus
+1 for this - very helpful. Thank you..!
Thank you for making this video!
Thanks for the great tips!
Thank you this is very helpful 😊
Great! This is helpful. Thanks!
Thanks for the video!
This is going to help a lot, thank you so much.
The best things ive seen with my little 4.5 inch reflector would have to be the lagoon nebula, double cluster, and jupiter. Small scopes are fun to have.
Thanks man lots of good info for a beginner!
Very informative, thank you. Yea, I just hauled this telescope out of the closet a couple hours ago - somebody gave it to me over 15 years ago, never learned how to use it. Need a finder scope. I have 3 lenses, + plus a 2x barlow lens, 1.5 x erector lens, and a diagonal.
Nice general information, people making "how-to" videos need to talk slower and as distinctly as possible.
Once I got past his crazy cadence, I was able to understand. I agree that he's not an award winning speaker. (Lookthroughthefinderscopeuntiltheyare seeing the same image.)
@MegaRocketLaunch great comment.thanks!
Congrats on the new telescope!
New to this....this was super helpful!!! I was going crazy!
Great tutorial
Thx you helped me a lot just starting out and I'm enjoying it but needed help thx again.
@svupster You are very welcome. That's a nice telescope. You be sure to spend some time with it and have fun!
Thank you very much, mine arrived today will do all of this tomorrow. Would of always been putting it on hard floor or not using both eye pieces
@MANNY222 I love astronomy. Go with a telescope made by either Celestron or Meade.
good purchase, thats a nice first telescope. Enjoy the night skies!
This video really help. Thank you bro
Thank you
Now I know what the different sized eyepieces for ! Very informative. Audio is good on my end !
Thanks!
@Goalatio Nice, I love those dobs. You can get some good light gathering power for a reasonable cost. I got an eight inch mirror and will be making the scope for it. Might do a dob.
@epicfantasy I started with a 4.5" reflector and moved up to an XT8 (8 inch reflector/dobsonion) after about a year.
Thank u, i just git one as a gift but did nit jnow how to use it now im gonna try again.
Thanks I've had one of the Zennoxes for around about a year now. I've not taken it out once but intend to start doing. I am a lot more confidant in doing so after watching your video. Cheers Mate.
Cheers and enjoy the telescope!
Thanks for this video! I just purchased my very 1st telescope. (Celestron 50mm -refractive) very basic and yet no instructions came with it, so this video was a big help!
I cannot wait for rain to stop and warmer temps to get here so that I can go check out the moon!!
Hi, i just got one also and i used the small power lens to look at the moon. It was pretty interesting.Have fun!
Thanks man
@Goalatio thanks! You are right about this. These are just some general rules for beginners though! What kind of scope do you have? I have been looking at some big Celestrons, that would be soooo nice!
@200smike I can't ask for more! You have fun!!
Great tips
Great video and cool channel, subbed.
Thank you so much. I finally knew how to use it. I just saw the lunar eclipse using it
Outstanding! Great to hear you got to see the lunar eclipse.
@chieftaster just start out with the plain 20mm lens. That should be helpful. Are you able to view stuff around the yard? Check the telescope like that first.
thanks great help :)
Great video, the only thing is the sound was a little difficult to understand. Thank you very much for explaining how to calibrate the finder scope.
@epicfantasy Very nice :) you'll love it.. 8" is some serious light gathering power, definitely not to be underestimated.
wow thanks. i bought a telescope today. out it together but have no idea how to use it properly. you gave some small tips but done properly im sure i will get some big results. thanks again
You are welcome. I am working on a book on how to use a small telescope. Enjoy it the best you can!
Pretty cool video!
help all I see is white light when I look at the moon at night.
Sametcan Kaya does telescope only. work at night
ashlycutie gamer - you can use it anytime depends on what to see. but its not a good idea to look at the star during the day
you can't look at the sun at night either.
You might need to focus the telescope. I had the same problem and figured out that my telescope had a little dial that could be turned to put objects into focus. Look for something like this on your telescope. Hope this helped.
Sametcan Kaya i
You are very welcome. Enjoy the night sky with that little bushnell!
This is a fantastic video thank you
You are very welcome. Thanks for watching!
You did a great job and saved me a lot of agony. Thank you
You video was very helpful I'm just getting into astronomy and got a powerseeker 50az for christmas but have NO IDEA how to use it and the instruction disks it comes with are totally useless, by the time I got half way through a paragraph I've forgotten what I read because it gets into extreme detail on how the it actually works (the insides)
I just purchased the same telescope. Did you ever figure out how to use it?
I want to buy a telescope for the first time. This is very informative. Thanks for posting.
Thanks for the advice, are there any books you could recommend for some just entering astronomy ?
I just ordered a Celestron PowerSeeker 70AZ Telescope. I've been wanting to get into astronomy for a long time now. I think this will be a good starter scope for me.
How did you like it mate?
@@jsueaud For the price I paid, it wasn’t bad. I was able to see Jupiter and the 4 big moons. I actually saw Saturn one night too. If you’re looking for crisp picture book images then you will be disappointed. Just being able to see those far away planets from where I was standing was amazing to me. I have since given the telescope to my brother. He wanted it for his daughters. I’ll probably get another one in the near future. A better one.
@@ih8suvz awesome! I honestly dint think you would reply lol 😂 it has been a while since you posted this comment 👍👍👍
Thx.
@Aresftfun I think Andromeda is M31. You do some astronomy though.
I bought the small Celestron telescope and had no idea how to use it. Thank you for this video!!!!
Outstanding! Thanks for watching and enjoy that telescope. Celestron makes excellent telescopes!
@chieftaster that way we can be sure the telescope is ok. With bad skies you may have to go out to the country somewhere. Don't give up though. Make an evening of it, will be worth it.
thank u
@MANNY222 Get to know the constellations first with a good star atlas. Once you get to know the constellations just match the star your object is closest too and there you have it. A red dot finder helps alot in pointing your scope to your target. To see the deep sky objects, such as galaxies, you will need at least a 8" scope. For me, the dobsonian model is the easiest to use.
A few things to point out... Often times there will not be a bright star nearby, making starhopping impossible. Also, there are many times when you want to start with the highest mag lens, because some objects are very small (Ring nebula in Lyra, for example is near impossible to pick up without ~150-200+ mag) as well as the satellite galaxies of M31 etc.
I have an old Meade Telestar 60EQ-W and would love to find a manual.
@Aresftfun M42 is the "Great nebula in Orion", M31 is the Galaxy in Andromeda.
So I should avoid the moon when I want to see nebulae?
thanks that kind of helped but the finder scope on the vivitar series 1 has no crosshair
definitely the firstscope. much better. Unless...The big thing about the Astroscan is the great portability. Throw it over your shoulder and go. So, go with that one if you need great portability. lots of backpacking and camping etc. I have looked through both of these.
@Aresftfun Youare welcome, enjoy that telescope!
is there a specific way to look through the eyepiece? like distance from the eye piece or if I should have my other eye closed?
most definitely that telescope can see nebulae and galaxie, try the andromeda galaxy and the orion nebula. But... I am not sure about in the city. depends on how bad the light pollution is.
Hey friend I have a 700mm focal and 30mm something is this good? What can I see?
Ty for this video, i bought a telescope for my mum so im left to do the research on6how it works. Keep up the good vids
Thanks for watching and wonderful that you bought your Mum a telescope!
My beautiful thoughtful girlfriend randomly surprised me with a telescope this year for Christmas. Something about looking up in the dark sky has always intrigued me beyond words. As a noob I appreciate the work you put into this video oh so long ago. ❤
Greetings,
I'm a beginner and I'd like to know which telescope brand I could purchase as a starter. Thank you.
I cant really give a good opinion. I just looked at the capricorn. Seems good. I have used several celestrons including a 60mm, Good telescopes and good optics. It might be an even bet.
I got a small refractor telescope from Bresser with 70mm lens diameter, 900mm focal length, equatorial mount, viewfinder (6x25), erecting lens 1,5x and three eyepieces (20mm, 12mm and 4mm). Is this a good small telescope? I would be happy if you could answer.
Great question. That is normal for an astronomical telescope. Doesnt matter if moon or stars are upside down.
@alrhazer Yes absolutely. But please never point it at the sun. It would cause instant eye damage.
thank you ive been having a lot of trouble with the thing.\
What's the difference between a reflector and a refractor telescope? I just got a telescope and was wondering.
Super guide thank you very much. I just bought me one of those celestron powerseeker 70mm AZ refractor... i am totally green on this astronamy stuff..
and i wasnt quite sure if were doing it right with the finderscope thingy, but i got it sorted thanks to this guide. I will now get a good start an not shove the scope in my closet, as i almost thought of doing
When I look at a planet, I just see a white dot with like wierd green dots and it is like I'm looking into a microscope. How do I fix this problem?
Also, what telescope should to view galaxies and clusters etc?
But if I want to look at the Moon with my telescope should I still wait for a Moonless night? 😜 (kidding)
Welp sure best thing to do!
@epicfantasy hello thanks for the video what kind of telescope do i need to see photos like the one you told we couldn't see (the close up galaxy)
Wow! Thank you so much!! I'm new to this, I'm only 12 and this helped me so much! :)
You are very welcome! The night sky is amazing. Have fun with your telescope!
hey i bought a telescope which is a edu science astro precision 600 50mm refractor and it also says 50 - 600
i wanted to ask u what could i see at night? galaxies? planets?? pls reply
@MagicTheGathering300 Thanks!
