Man how I wish videos like these existed when I grew up. When I was a kid I always wanted to be an astronomer but the lack of easily available visual content about it made me slowly forget my dream and kill that passion in me cause other things in life distracted me. Now I'm grown up with a completely different path in life as a game designer with astronomy as a passion that I never explored other than watching content about it every single day since content on it became available on platforms like TH-cam. Keep remembering your dream and pursue it! I'm rooting for you to become an astronomer.
I just want to mention that you can buy a pre-owned version of the Canon 1000d camera I used in this video for as little as $100. 📷 But please be aware that there are plenty of cameras that have much better imaging capabilities than the Canon 1000d, it just so happened to be the only camera I had at the time so I spent a lot of time imaging with it, there really isn't anything special about it! 😅 If you want to see what a real special camera looks like, then check out the SONY A7S ii, this is the camera I have used to film 95% of Astronomical, it has amazing low light capabilities. 😁👍

me too, I live smack dab in the middle of Los Angeles, and it takes at most 1 hour 30 minutes to exit the city, and probably a lot more if I want to get away from the light pollution.
I'm 58 years old. I still have my 3 inch refractor which I have had since I was 12. Clearly, I have had a lot of life over those years but I will never forget first seeing the seven sisters, Orions' nebula, Venus, Jupiter and Saturn with their visible moons and of course Andromeda. I could go on but just to say it's wonderful that Damon is as inspired as I was as a youngster and is pursuing his dreams, with all the knew tools available. With his engaging presentation skills, I wonder if we have the next Brian Cox here? I live in an area with a lot of light pollution. But I think I will unpack my telescope and see what I can in 2021. And maybe.....give myself a long overdue telescope upgrade!! Keep up the good work Damon and we wish you well.
The fact that there could be entire planets with civilizations of their own looking at Earth (or, what Earth was like millions or billions of years ago) gives me chills. And also that we may just be looking back at them, at what their planet was like millions or billions of years ago.

It is my dream to retire back to my village in future and observe the stars....with zero light pollution. So thank you for showing the way

That and seeing Saturn's ring, again with my own eyes was amazing! I've always been fascinated with science and space, but seeing those things in person through a telescope is something else!!
Great video Damon! You really did a great job describing the emotions that every astronomer or astrophotographer experience, by looking and understanding the nightsky, and it's wonders. I'm an amateur astriphotographer from Lima, Perú. 8 years ago, I bought my first telescope. It was a Celestron Nexstar 6. Literally, a time machine as you perfectly described.

Hi Damon, as someone who watches Astronomical Videos and Channels on the Internet almost every day for years, this was the first time I have come across your site. I have to say that I was immediatly, Impressed by your enthusiasm, and Passion of the subject as well as the presentation etc of it all. I loved how well you explained things, which im sure will inspire younger Budding Astronomers of the future. I liked it that you explained it all, without all the Fancy, often Silly Imagery and Gimmiks, also No Loud overpowering Music where you often cannot even hear whats being said. So thank you for just keeping it simple, Please Please Please keep it just as it is Simple, Explanatory and Educational. I immediatley Subscribed and Liked and will now regularly watch your Channel from now on. Thanks once again and wish you all the best with your Channel.
Firstly, I can't thank you enough for the actual images, shown so realistically and second for ending my search. I've seen so many videos trying to visualize what I could see with a telescope. Not one of the 100s of content out there, showed an exact picture and I'm thankful once again for that. I share the same passion or maybe more, for astronomy. Keep gazing mate.
My friend and I talked about space, galaxies, stars and the likes a few hours ago. I thought how wonderful would it be to see it up close through a telescope. I'm so glad I found your video. the feeling of wanting to do something new and exciting just hit me. You have explained everything clearly. Hope to see more videos of you. What can you recommend for me to start with? I never even owned a binocular before.
I did astronomy in the final 2 years of secondary school and it is quite possibly the best time of my life. I would sit out in the garden with a beer on the weekends and just watch the stars for hours (usually freezing cold) but it's so so unfathomably amazing that more people should appreciate it.
It is a real delight to see how this young scientist enjoys watching the stars and how much love he puts in his quest to understand the mysteries of space. But must of all, thank you for sharing these wonders with us.
I can’t thank you enough for this video. Well done and very much appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to make this video and in the language very easy to understand.
Braaaaaaaaaa did you change your channel name ?? heheh I was locking for this vid to show a friend how simple you made to understand basics of our universe and i couldn't find you .. Excellent vid and edid
Thanks for this video, man! I have been attempting to find a good scope for a couple years, but have never pulled the trigger on getting one simply because I didn’t know just how well I’d see anything. I knew it wouldn’t be anything like Hubble, but didn’t want to end up only being able to see craters on the moon. Thanks again!
Wow, this was perfectly edited. Really nice how you put it all together and the way you made pretty complex subjects, easy to comprehend. Will use parts of this in education for my students. Regards from science teacher in primary school. ..
I looked through my first telescope (8" dobsonian) in early 2020 and at 60 years old it was the first time I used a telescope able to see Jupiter and it's moons close up and clear. Since then I started deep sky imaging with an EQ mount, refractor telescope and a lot of electronics and have created many images of deep space objects and what a rush to see these these things... Great video....
Lovely video! Your presentation is crisp, interesting and inspirational. I also realise how patient one must be to be chasing these millions of tiny dots of light out in the cold! All this cosmic grandeur makes one very humble. Thanks again for your informational video!
thanks you so much for this video man. i am an amateur of astronomy but seeing your passion for it is truly amazing and makes so happy to know all of this
This youngster is actually an excellent, interesting teacher. Newly retired I just bgought my 1st scope used and can't wait to figure out some of it's complexities. Really a good job here.
No matter how much info I stuff into my brain from countless videos, I feel like you understand or at least can put in to words that are easier for my brain to comprehend. It’s so hard to wrap my head around looking up and zooming into a star and reversing the time so to speak..
I love the view of a true starry night🌌..it feels ethereal.. 💜 Sadly, I live in a city (Seoul)which is shrouded in light...😔 Anyways, I always have stars here..😇😇 The hard work you put in shooting and editing is incredible!!❤❤❤
Your work is remarkable. How beautiful would it be if you could also share which camera settings did you use foe beautiful night-sky timelapses.. i am a filmmaker and learning cool stuff like this... Like at 6:47, is this the bokeh from stars? How could the stars and sky behind youbappear so bright? Are the ISO values so high? I can cdrtainly see a lot of noise. Plus did you reduce the shutter speed a lot to make it brighter? I cant believe how beautifully you captured the stars literally twinkling behind you here. Also, at 4:16, the same thing. Stars twinkling. Secondly how did u take the timelapse at 10:53 ? Similarly, the composition at 2:12 is beautiful. Is it simple video compositing with Masking? or did you put some green-screen flag up there? Amazing work man! It is just wonderful imagery you created. I would immensely appreciate if you could give some tips..
This video has inspired me to take up astrophotography again, last time I was so frustrated with my scope since I couldn't get it to align properly, thus I couldn't take any photos. I got some new things that I have yet to try so I'm waiting for the weather to clear up before I get to work! Awesome video.
This video just made me realize that we are eternally experiencing the near-past and that as far as our senses go there is no present . Light and sound all take time to reach our eyes and ears . Thoughts take time to form, smells take time to register, etc . So we can never experience the present although we exist fully in it . Another irony of the universe .
Fun fact, its totally possible that we are seeing the universe in real time. We have only ever measured the two way speed of light. In Special Relativity Einstein states that the speed of light could be instaneous in one direction and any variation of velocity in the opposing direction without breaking physics :) if we bounce a light off of mars and it takes 20 minutes to get back to us. We have no idea if it took 10 minutes in both directions, or 19 mins there then 1 minute back.... It could literally be anything. We only assume its even in both directions because its easier for us to comprehend that logic.
I cannot possibly state how truly awesome this is. It's awesome! Amazing! Crazy! Phenomenal! Educational! Insane! Wait, wait, no. This is truly.... Astronomical. Mic drop.

This video actually really helped me get an idea of what images I could actually see based on the telescope
It is a real delight to see how this young scientist enjoys watching the stars and how much love he puts in his quest to understand the mysteries of space. But must of all, thank you for sharing these wonders with us.
Thank you! 😊
I love how passionate you are 😊
I can’t thank you enough for this video. Well done and very much appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to make this video and in the language very easy to understand.
Zooming into the Andromeda high-res image had me mesmerized!
I’ve just seen this in my recommended. This was a really informative and very well executed video. Beautifully explained. I’ve just subscribed
Thank you! 😊
Braaaaaaaaaa did you change your channel name ?? heheh
I was locking for this vid to show a friend how simple you made to understand basics of our universe and i couldn't find you .. Excellent vid and edid
By his teaching skills he doesn’t sound like an amateur at all. Bravo!
Thank you very much! 👍
Great vlog. Astronomy is so interesting and yes it’s so hard to comprehend the time and distance of objects in our universe. Mind boggles 🤯
And this was phenomenal!
Regards from science teacher in primary school. ..
this is one of the underrated youtubers that deserve more subs
I looked through my first telescope (8" dobsonian) in early 2020 and at 60 years old it was the first time I used a telescope able to see Jupiter and it's moons close up and clear. Since then I started deep sky imaging with an EQ mount, refractor telescope and a lot of electronics and have created many images of deep space objects and what a rush to see these these things... Great video....
💪🏾Your Channel will now grow substantially💪🏾
This video is one of the best videos I've ever seen, this taught me a lot about astrophotography!
Lovely video! Your presentation is crisp, interesting and inspirational. I also realise how patient one must be to be chasing these millions of tiny dots of light out in the cold! All this cosmic grandeur makes one very humble. Thanks again for your informational video!
Thank you! 😊
Woohoo waiting for the video
yeah
Yaah
Hey man, keep up the good work! Love the mysteries of the universe, the vast deep endlessness, sends the mind into overdrive!
Largest scopes I have ready access to are 12" in aperture, LX200 and a Skywatcher Dobsonian.
Amazing stuff out there.
More than anything else I love how passionate you are about astronomy! ❤️
thanks you so much for this video man. i am an amateur of astronomy but seeing your passion for it is truly amazing and makes so happy to know all of this
6:00 seeing that made my heart skip a beat. Seriously so beautiful and terrifying
12:27 that's just so incredibly beautiful
Mind blown. I finally understand science thanks to you
we could potentially be taking photos of entire civilisations but we would never know because the resolution is horrid. love this content so much!
This youngster is actually an excellent, interesting teacher. Newly retired I just bgought my 1st scope used and can't wait to figure out some of it's complexities. Really a good job here.
Thank you! 😊
No matter how much info I stuff into my brain from countless videos, I feel like you understand or at least can put in to words that are easier for my brain to comprehend. It’s so hard to wrap my head around looking up and zooming into a star and reversing the time so to speak..
Congrats for the astronomy photography of the year award :)
I love the view of a true starry night🌌..it feels ethereal.. 💜
Sadly, I live in a city (Seoul)which is shrouded in light...😔
Anyways, I always have stars here..😇😇
The hard work you put in shooting and editing is incredible!!❤❤❤
Tbh every city's shrouded in light.. I live in (New) Mumbai and here I can't even see starts clearly.. due to pollution tho
@Ale+X great! I just shifted to Mars.. just relaxing now

6:20
That's what she said!
This video is just simply beautiful
Mic drop.
Ahahaha, well said, Syed! 😂🙏

This guy needs to be my science teacher. Then I would actually enjoy space again.
You stopped enjoying space??? What a stupid statement.
@@CooManTunes yea I stopped enjoying it, I told my family how interesting space was and how much I’m into it. Then they just didn’t stop talking about it, showing me videos buying me all this weird stuff. They just brought me out of it
Why don't this guy have his own TV show???
Amazing knowledge.
For anybody wondering how is our solar system over 1 ly in diameter. Our solar system doesn't extend only to Pluto or Kuiper belt as probably most people think which is almost 40 AU. It actually extends as far as Oort cloud which could be even bigger than 1 ly.
A round of applause. Thank you sir! I must say, with all due respect to Neil De Grasse Tyson, I get tired of Neil's love of himself and his rock star status. Neil is a nice guy who simply loves the spotlight. But Damon, I enjoy this video because you are out to help the novice and educate the uninitiated into Astronomy. I look forward to watching more of your videos. I think you will do your best work and attract the most interest because you simply enjoy Astronomy. Thank you.
But Neil De Grasse Tyson is an astrophysicist.... lol astrophotography isnt even a science. I get what you mean though
It feels so good to learn and have things broken down so well. I have bad ADD and this was so engaging for me and I learned so much about the process of the photography of stars and systems. I always wondered. I definitely would love to go back to school and study this
This Video is Really inspiring! I'm a 17 year old Astrophotographer myself! Loved the Video! Space Never ceases to fascinate me!
How far away is betelgeuse? There seems to be no definitive number, the last updated distance i found is 548 ly. Are all other distances for stars just rough guesswork or can we accurately determine distance?
