As a 40 year old who has lived in Mexico my whole life....yeah THAT sound brings back memories, and my gen is probably one of the last ones that can pretty much guaranteed to have driven one/in one at some point, either yours or a friend for whatever reason, and that model you're driving fixes the 2 main things I that always stressed me out about driving these, the character building brakes and the "yeah that's probably in gear" transmission, the vagueness of both elements always unnerved me. I feel like I did something as a car loving dad in that my 2 kids, who have never ridden in an air cooled VW both would LOVE to drive a classic VW bug, and they know full well I'd teach them to drive cars with "that lever you keep fiddling with".
What a gorgeous example. My mom drove a bug back the 1960s - it had a factory-issued folding canvas sunroof. As little kids my brother and I would take turns laying in the small deck behind the back seat, staring up through the back window. Though I have never owned one, there is a purity to the Beetle that I will always admire.
Hi, Mr. Topher; I actually learned how to drive, in an original VW Beatle, when I was 23, years old; before moving to Paris, France. All the very best, Shaun🦉 of NYC🗽
I have owned aircooled VW’s for 40 years. The plight of changing seats has never been figured out. There is a reason people generally stay stock. Repad and recover. They feel great when you do. Also, this car has survived 60 years mostly unmolested. Why do you want to be the first? There is no need anymore to strip its uniqueness. Let it be what it does best. Simple and slow.
In 1986 I had an opportunity to buy a '64 fully restored Bug for 2,500 Could kick myself for passing it up. There's nothing like driving an old VW. The journey is more fun than the destination.
I think they called this paint color: "Savanna Beige". Such a beautifully restored, cool, fun car, it brings back memories of my sisters 1970 Formula Vee bug that I used to take (and passed) my drivers test with.
Beetles are awesome. I have driven a lot of cool stuff over the years and a '61 Beetle rented from Turo was one of my favorites. They are so easy to drive.
There was one Beetle in my area on sale and it looked so nice. Like it has custom wheels, beautiful red color and lowered. It looked nice, unfortunately someone had bought it and it’s no longer there. I wanted that car :(
My first car was a1966 Bug I had a 6 volt Abersparka gas heater installed… back then I built an small inverter to produce12 v for my 8 track car stereo … the cold winter in Canada made me have the gas heater put. My next car was a1975 Corvette. Good video this is.. the owner is a bit off 🇨🇦❤️
Man, that sound. Transports me to when I was 16, driving my yellow 1972 standard Beetle, with one rear fender a different shade than the rest of the car because I was too broke to have it painted by a pro.
That was the first car ive ever driven in 1999, i was 10 yo, my dad just told me "get the keys, i'll teach you how to drive the FUSCA (how its called in Brazil) today" and the rest is history...
I bought a 1970 beetle in 1979, and drove it 30K miles before it was killed in an accident. I replaced it with a 1974 super beetle and drove that 120K miles. One thing about driving it in the winter is that since the front is light you could brake or you could turn, but you could not brake hard and turn if the roads were snow covered. Also, the brakes really sucked and didn't have automatically adjusting brakes like most cars had at the time - you had to use a screwdriver and manually adjust the brakes at each wheel. One time visiting my sister in Ann Arbor I had to do that because the braking performance had gotten so bad on the trip there. The car in the video is a 1966, which was the last year for that style of bumpers which is probably why that year is more collectable.
I guess is that he has never owned a Volkswagen beetle before so my suggestion would be to get some hot VWs and -VW trends magazines and read through them that's how I knew what parts that will fit what cars and what years now I could tear down a car and rebuild it from the ground up like my 67 bug that I'm just about finished with and go with EMPI seats they do recline but are pricy about $1,000 bucks ..
Love the video and Mr. DK a set of seats that I would love to get for my 69 Karmann Gaia and I think would fit nicely in your beetle would be the Ricardo expert seats
I had a 66. Drove it 1500 miles to Florida with all my sh#. Was in 2nd gear going over Jellico Mountain. Had people laughing at me, pointing. Scarred for life
i have a 70 model, lots of fun though the gearbox is a bit cranky, it likes to crunch when going into 2nd gear most of the time it appears the one in the video has a different gear ratio because mine gets really high around 40 mph in 3rd i usually shift to 4th near 45
Someone needs to put some sense into that man for slamming doors, hood, frunk... smh. You don't do that to Beetles, you'll bend things and create rattles for no reason. If panels are lined up (which they seem to be in this car since it was just restored), it should take minimal effort to close doors, hood, and frunk. Take care of your car, please...
I'm glad he called out the rubber steering wheel cover at 25:00, that would drive me nuts. I do like the color, but there's something about the stance that looks off to me for a '66, perhaps it's the wheels.

I would take this over a lot of the new cars.
Your buddies commentary is great
Hi, Mr. Topher;

Paris, France.
All the very best,

Chris, What a missed opportunity, I expected the frunk to be full of watches. 😉
I love the noises this car makes. I've never owned an air-cooled VW, but this seems like a pretty nice one.
Please we need to see you film your dad's FJ cruiser
In 1986 I had an opportunity to buy a '64 fully restored Bug for 2,500
Could kick myself for passing it up.

Looks nice. My buddy had a Beetle with a gas fueled heater. Worked great on those cold winter days.
My first car was a1966 Bug

The smaller window at the front of each door are called vent windows.

Beautiful Well-Kept Old School Beetle!
If only it was bright yellow 🐝
Front vent windows aka Wings, designed for smokers in mind. Replaced by AC.Engine is sweet!!!
That must’ve been a real treat!
I love this! DK is the man!
My uncle had one of those. Great car!
What a drive 🙏
I like the unplanned accidental beetle coverage between this and RCR
The crest on the steering wheel means it was manufactured in Wolfsburg Germany
On the same day Regular Cars posts a video about Herbie. Some automotive stars certainly have aligned…
Great idea, great VW.

Beautiful ! BTW, it does have a tach, there are shift point marks for each gear on the speedometer
Technically not a tach
I swear every car I’m like hmm I wanna watch a pov drive on you have a video on it from like a day ago😂
Guy has an absolute pristine beetle but doesn't know all the controls?
The old is always Gold.
If VW had put an air-cooled engine in the rear of their "New Beetle" back in '98, I would have bought one.
It makes me think of lou reeds songs and roadtrips awesome ride
New Topher video? My week is made!
That was my first car, but mine was blue with a white interior.
Had one almost exactly like this :))
My father had a few and a Bus, in fact my mom learned to drive in a 65' baby blue bug.
bros playin forza horizon at this point 😭😭🤣

Request: 2001 Nissan Altima
Cutting up the old school Altima
Love the video and Mr. DK a set of seats that I would love to get for my 69 Karmann Gaia and I think would fit nicely in your beetle would be the Ricardo expert seats
oh man I love the 911
To me, this Beetle is just as cool as Topher's Type-R 🙂 (in a different way)
Gotta do the Rare Turbo S new beetle next
Scat Procar seats is the answer
Very cool video!
the little window is called a vent window
I’m not a beetle guy, but this one is sweet
Great Day. Herbie on RCR and another bug on this channel.

Very nice, id like to get a 74 super beetle.
Yeah. The little extras were worth it
Those cars last forever
1:28 Porsche, not Portia.
It's a german name that's how you pronounce it
Poor-she. And I have had one for the last 13 years. That’s what I call them, poor-she. I also have a ND MX-5 and that’s usually my go to fun drive.
That was a 1966 VW 1300 Beetle!
A classic vehicle awesome

Nah fr bro, why hes so mad with the door ? 😂😂
My Great Falls Green GTI and ND2 are always welcome for you to drive next time you're in the Bay Area. ❤
review the mirage!
I thought this was a Tedward video when I clicked on it lol
I'm glad he called out the rubber steering wheel cover at 25:00, that would drive me nuts. I do like the color, but there's something about the stance that looks off to me for a '66, perhaps it's the wheels.
The 66 model year had flatter hub caps. Not the rounded caps this car has.
Never been this early
hell yea
Please shift into 4th lol
good❤😅😊
My 66 Olds has lots of features but it doesn’t have hazard lights/emergency flashers.
Find a Honda N600
Sure it's in neutral?..lol
Vocho
Try to find a white 1963 bug and you can say you are driving herbie
