Watched this as a kid in the 80s and repeatedly in the 90s. Hong Kong movies are huge in Singapore. This is an all-time timeless classic. Joey Wong is also timeless. RIP Leslie, you'll always be remembered.

I must respectfully disagree. I no more want to see a remake of this beautiful film than I do of Star Wars or Casablanca. One of the great things about the internet is that it makes classics of the past - music, literature, art or movies - available to everyone. ACGS doesn't need a remake to keep it alive... just good word of mouth.

There have been several remakes, most notably the 2011 remake starring Liu Yi Fei aka Crystal Liu (Disney Live Action Mulan). There was a lesser known remake that came out last year. It came up on China's streaming platforms and didn't have a wide release compared to the 1987 and 2011 versions. With that said, none of them were as good as the original.

@@KiseiruYoshioka Ah, very cool! Thank you for that information.
An old girlfriend from Hong Kong once called me Gwai Tsai [ghost baby] when we were dating. Her father was afraid I'd be offended because it sounded too much like Gwai Lo [used as "foreign devils!" back in the day, but it really means something along the lines of "old ghost man."] Anyway, I liked it and the name stuck!

@@atlanteum Your welcome, I am a mixed japanese and taiwanese living in Taiwan thus not very versed in canto or much exposed hong kong language nor film at first up until I saw this movie where Joey Wong were casted together with Leslie, from then on I started to explore more of his song and his tragic background story including his struggle in drugs addiction and mental depression. It was an outmost unfortunate event that his singing career was cut short due to the intense clash between his fans and Alan Tam's sparking way too much of a controversy that leads to his ultimate departure from music during the vertex of his singing vocation to avoid further fan's altercations. By the time I get to know about him, he had long gone for his journey to the afterlife but for his short life which was as brief as a candle and the endless scuffle against depression in which he receives shorter end of the sticks for mostly but nevertheless he shoned brightly despite of all the odds throughout his life in order to convene happiness and entertainment to others, he hungs the moon truly.

@@atlanteum I hate to say this but Leslie had way too much of shortcomings within his life and most of it only contributed more to his stress.WuMa (the old actor whom casted the daoist swordsman in the movie) once stated in an interview that during the filming process of this movie, Leslie was trembling all the time especially his hand and having speech disorientation while resting at the filming set allegedly. This was noticed by few other actors whom present during the filming as well, a trace of his mental and physical fatigue also an accumulation of stress and depression state. He kept these well hidden though, during the filming process.
