Watched this as a kid in the 80s and repeatedly in the 90s. Hong Kong movies are huge in Singapore. This is an all-time timeless classic. Joey Wong is also timeless. RIP Leslie, you'll always be remembered.

Love this movie. It is the first Chinese ghost that I watched when my family migrated to the West. At that time, I think, I fell in love with the main Chinese ghost. Fast forward to 2023, and hearing the music still brings back old memories.

Visually it looks interesting but it sure lost the charm and humor of the original, wich got replaced with action. at least thats my opinion after seeing the trailer. Thanks again ~

Leslie's death was one of the most tragic ever, and I've heard many sad stories about Joey [Wong Jo-Yin] as well. Just like the movie, it makes you realize how short life is, and how precious the happy moments are.

Watched this repeatedly as a kid but I never got to fully experience it because the only available version was untranslated so I just watched it not knowing what they were saying. Wish I could find a translated or even just subbed version and rewatch it loud on my tv

I must respectfully disagree. I no more want to see a remake of this beautiful film than I do of Star Wars or Casablanca. One of the great things about the internet is that it makes classics of the past - music, literature, art or movies - available to everyone. ACGS doesn't need a remake to keep it alive... just good word of mouth.
There have been several remakes, most notably the 2011 remake starring Liu Yi Fei aka Crystal Liu (Disney Live Action Mulan). There was a lesser known remake that came out last year. It came up on China's streaming platforms and didn't have a wide release compared to the 1987 and 2011 versions. With that said, none of them were as good as the original.

Saw this when I was a teen, still in my all time best hong kong movie, but I saw the second one in a movie festival in Canada 2 months ago. They said that the third one is gonna be playing next year,I’m gonna be their…. But I downloaded the fourth one on TH-cam in 2011-2012 maybe with TH-cam downloader ( when it worked) the female ghost in this one s also a well known lady and really cute also !! …the Fifth one is on TH-cam right now under a different name .
While I hope you enjoy the third one, I would not hold out too much hope. For me, ACGS is a 2-part story. The second one is fantastic, and the first one is perfection. It's not that III is bad, it's just that, without the pairing of Leslie & Joey, I'm not interested. But... you may feel differently! Please come back and let us know what you think when you see it -

There were so many great films coming out of Hong Kong in the 90s and early 2000s, it's hard to keep track of them all. Do you know the Huang Fei Hung series starring Jet Li? They are amazing, especially the first two. Iron Monkey is another one of my all-time favorites. In 1983, before he directed A Chinese Ghost Story, Tsui Hark directed Zu - Warriors of the Magic Mountain, an epic sword and fantasy film. I think you will like it. Please let me know if I can suggest anything else!
I can't believe it's been TWO YEARS since I said I was going to put out a music video for ACGS II - sheesh!!! Well, I do now have a clean copy of the movie to work from, but I'm also in the process of moving. Her father was afraid I'd be offended because it sounded too much like Gwai Lo [used as "foreign devils!" back in the day, but it really means something along the lines of "old ghost man."] Anyway, I liked it and the name stuck!
@@atlanteum Your welcome, I am a mixed japanese and taiwanese living in Taiwan thus not very versed in canto or much exposed hong kong language nor film at first up until I saw this movie where Joey Wong were casted together with Leslie, from then on I started to explore more of his song and his tragic background story including his struggle in drugs addiction and mental depression. It was an outmost unfortunate event that his singing career was cut short due to the intense clash between his fans and Alan Tam's sparking way too much of a controversy that leads to his ultimate departure from music during the vertex of his singing vocation to avoid further fan's altercations. By the time I get to know about him, he had long gone for his journey to the afterlife but for his short life which was as brief as a candle and the endless scuffle against depression in which he receives shorter end of the sticks for mostly but nevertheless he shoned brightly despite of all the odds throughout his life in order to convene happiness and entertainment to others, he hungs the moon truly.
@@atlanteum I hate to say this but Leslie had way too much of shortcomings within his life and most of it only contributed more to his stress.WuMa (the old actor whom casted the daoist swordsman in the movie) once stated in an interview that during the filming process of this movie, Leslie was trembling all the time especially his hand and having speech disorientation while resting at the filming set allegedly. This was noticed by few other actors whom present during the filming as well, a trace of his mental and physical fatigue also an accumulation of stress and depression state. He kept these well hidden though, during the filming process.

It was an outmost unfortunate event that his singing career was cut short due to the intense clash between his fans and Alan Tam's sparking way too much of a controversy that leads to his ultimate departure from music during the vertex of his singing vocation to avoid further fan's altercations. By the time I get to know about him, he had long gone for his journey to the afterlife but for his short life which was as brief as a candle and the endless scuffle against depression in which he receives shorter end of the sticks for mostly but nevertheless he shoned brightly despite of all the odds throughout his life in order to convene happiness and entertainment to others, he hungs the moon truly.
@@atlanteum I hate to say this but Leslie had way too much of shortcomings within his life and most of it only contributed more to his stress.WuMa (the old actor whom casted the daoist swordsman in the movie) once stated in an interview that during the filming process of this movie, Leslie was trembling all the time especially his hand and having speech disorientation while resting at the filming set allegedly. This was noticed by few other actors whom present during the filming as well, a trace of his mental and physical fatigue also an accumulation of stress and depression state. He kept these well hidden though, during the filming process.
Back in the golden age of Hong Kong cinema.. when Korean cinema was still in its infancy, now everything we watch is from Korea 😂

实在是想不通,那时候的古装电影是那么好看,现在的都是什么玩意。
应该说一种真实感,可能那时候化妆技术不强,特效不强,画质也不强,所以只能演员强,只能真动作,只能物理实现特效。
现在演员一个个化的妆太不真实了,动作表情太浮夸,打斗全靠特效
