Space shuttle from the movie Moonraker 007. Restoration of a 1979 Corgi model.

- In 1979, the Corgi company began producing the space shuttle from the film about the adventures of agent 007 James Bond from Moonracker. This ferry was very popular with children at that time. The Corgi company wanted to sell this model quickly, so it appeared immediately after the premiere of the film. My copy didn't have any cargo in the hold, but I managed to deal with it because I once managed to buy an incomplete cargo at a flea market. I added the missing part to it using polyurethane resin and thus obtained a complete shuttle. I also made the box in which it was sold. What a fun change of pace! So many rivets to drill, though. A plastic base to boot. Another trip to "Alladin's Cave" yielded the COOL satellite cargo. Maestro, you have a surgeon's hands. First the mold, then the part replicated, and finally careful sculpting into shape. This is like a watchmaker at work. The lovely paint job, but the skill to fabricate exact decals to scale is really a great skill. I love the finished model. Of course, the box project is the final colorful touch. When I was a kid, I had a classmate who had one of these and I was so envious. The thing that stood out to me was the retracting landing gears. My dad bought me one of the NASA Space Shuttle, but it had fixed landing gears so I didn't like it as much.

I can confirm that the tail fin on these makes an excellent weapon when being hit by the school bully. One of my favourites as a kid. Still have mine and the mini version.

That specific moment in time was a good experience from my perspective. I cherish the Space Shuttles and that movie. Space 1999 also had an effect on me. The name "Moonraker" is quite awesome. My dad was in the Air Force, so there was more to it. I am building a drone system up at this point as a finale or something. A car will do, but it's the same technology.

You did a great job of rebuilding this. I would just replace the screws on the wing with countersunk head screws... They wouldn't be as obvious from the side as they are with the cylindrical ones.

Love Corgi models very nice. My Space Shuttles Battery operated one with light & two with light & sound Playmobil. Moonraker my favorite film. Cargo bay doors open & close retracting landing gear. I like this space shuttle want for myself.❤😊🎉🎉🤗☺️😁😀🤩😇💯

Nice job .. ..I had the smaller Moonraker shuttle .. have you tried doing an Eagle from Space 1999 .. I would be interested on how you would get the Metallic Green / Blue to match .. i have both and i still cannot get an exact match ..so i am reluctant to restore them .. just in case it all goes wrong.. i would rather keep them battered original then refurbed in the wrong shade

I have to say that you spray your models far too much with paint. All the details in the model are filled with paint and completely lost in the process. Try a dedicated modelling air brush and uses thin coats.

Why would you use a file or a key to scratch the toy up worse before restoring it? Are you telling me that you couldn't find a trash-quality version of the toy?

That's a great restoration of that Moonraker Shuttle. You wouldn't know it's restored. I'd love to know the process for the decals. I have lots of models that the decals are starting to deteriorate because of the years past they desintegrate as soon as they go into water. The only way I managed to save some by applying Tamiya gloss coat and gloss clear also applied by paint brush. I have no access to a protection coat for decals that are old. The other issue white decals go yellow. On another note that's a superb restoration of a classic toy model. One of my favorite James Bond Movies Moonraker.👍🇭🇲🦘🐨✌️
