Opel Diplomat V8 with a broken chassis. Restoration of Politoys model no. 521.

- In 1965, the Italian company Politoys began producing 37 different models on a scale of 1: 43, which are now very sought after models on the collector's market. Among these models was the Opel Diplomat presented by me today. The film also includes a fragment of a recording of me as a child. Cars from this series were characterized by very high precision of workmanship. Virtually all parts could be opened. My model did not have the rear part of the chassis and the two wheels that were there. I did the entire reconstruction of the missing part because the Opel deserved it, due to the fact that it is an extremely rare model. Opel Politoys were painted in two colors. I chose the darker, metallic sea green version. As usual, I made a box for it in which it was sold. Thank you for watching the video, I publish car repair videos on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Haha, not only do we see the results of Paul Restorer's brilliant talents, but Paul himself!!! The video of you behind the wheel of the Rekord as a child is magnificent! My Dad was somewhat of a camera enthusiast, but the photos rarely were any good! I don't recall any photos of the childhood "me" with an actual car, despite my similar passion. (Beautiful model and) another superb restoration! Congrats Paul! That resurrection job you practiced on the chassis was on point. (At first I said to myself that - if it was me doing the restoration - I would have probably gone with some sort of welding technique instead, but giving it a second thought, it is probably a too stressed section of the model for a welding to withstand, so good call on going for sure with the screws solution). Not only you de-scraped it back to life with that repair, but it also - after detailing and paint - ended up integrating with the original section even better than I had originally anticipated. I'm also so glad that you keep on pumping these - they are, generally speaking, a delight to watch - out regularly after all this time, specially when so many other channels with similar content seem to have ran out of steam these days.

👏 👏👏👏🙌🙌🙌🙌 what a beautiful restoration of the Politoys Polistil Opel Diplomat V8. I must say I am impressed how you restored the base. I like that you used an aluminum metal piece and not some composite material instead. I also like how you overlapped the two metal pieces and that it’s held or bonded together with screws and not glue. Why didn’t you use glue to hold the two pieces together? It seems easier to use glue however probably not as durable. I would have loved to see you use aluminum as well instead of plastic that holds the rear wheels in place. But again very beautifully restored

That's why I didn't glue these two parts because I thought that connecting them with screws was simpler and much more durable. screwing in the screws from the inside kept the chassis the same height because their heads didn't go below his. in my videos I try to show various techniques, so this one seemed very interesting and effective to me. In one of the upcoming videos I will also make the entire chassis from aluminum because the model does not have this chassis. greetings from Krakow

Wat een mooi model is dat. Veel werk, maar het eindresultaat is het zeker waard. Erg goed gekozen kleur ook. Het gevoel rond Opel snap ik wel; een grootvader van me had een lichtbruine ascona B als laatste auto, als kind wel enige keren op diens achterbank gezeten. Leuke video weer.

My first memory of my first car was the Gaz-21 Volga. It was a luxurious big car of the USSR, and I remembered it for its shape and beauty.
I loved the Volga Gaz 21 as a child. We had a few taxis here and I managed to ride in the Volga a few times. For me it was a very luxurious car. It had a beautiful interior finish and chrome exterior. Kind regards
Funny thing is, the early Volga looks like Opel Kapitän and the later Volga like the Diplomat.

My beloved Dad had a couple of Opel: a 1958 "Kapitän" in Black and a 1970 "Rekord 1900" Green with its ceiling in Cream.
Watching your remarkable work on this Diplomat brought me sweet memories about this outstanding German Brand. It helped me to study automotive mechanics, career that although I began to study too adult (I was 48 then in 2016 and finished with 50 yrs old in 2018) is something that makes me feeling proud of myself.
Congratulations, Paul. And thanks for bringing these beauties to life.

Very nice work. But have you painted the inner sides of the wheels? And you have left out the front indicators. Are youmissing out on the fog lights? It is weird to see that Politoys made a V8 with 12 exhaust manifolds. Moreover the Diplomat had always two exhaust pipes at the rear of the car! Nevertheless very nice work. Thank you for sharing. (I owned and restored a 1967 Kapitän A at one point.)

Never seen an Opel Diplomat IRL. Thought that kind of car was always painted black in the time, could not imagine another colour, but that's purely derived from B&W movies of course... Actually this metallic blue is a perfect match for the tan tone inside :)
I read "8 V" on the box, shouldn't it be "V8" instead ?
It also seemed to me when I was making the box that it should be V8, I don't know why the manufacturer changed these letters in this way, best regards
