Tbh i feel like what most people forget is that a lot of weapons with 100-ish damage either have limited ammo/slow reload(like Grenade Launchers, Rocket Launchers). Strong damage fall-off/limited range(basically every weapon except the sniper rifle), and probably require high precision(Scout's scattergun, Demoman's Grenade Launcher). The Ambassador just deals at the very least 54 damage at a high range which is about as much as sniper bodyshot or Direct hit with stock launcher(but will you ever hit a direct hit with a slow projectile from a mile away?). This is pretty strong considering Spy's revolver is supposed to more so pick off low health targets you can't reach efficiently or as a last resort. The Ambassador has 6 bullets, reloads it's entire clip at once, and the most prominent downside is that it just requires high precision. While also being balanced out by the fact you can't just spam click heads for huge dps. It's literally just a normal sidegrade.
Also a point I forgot to bring up, even if you’re not a perfect headshot god it has some respectable body shot dps too. Not nearly as good as stock because of both firing speed and damage penalty, but still enough to have saved me a few times.
There's a spy main that compared stock vs amby and showed how stock outdps amby in near all ranges after nerf, and amby only one few categories and barely. That's why Spy mains and regular Chads who don't get mad at Spy unlocks were reacting negatively to the nerf. Only thing I'd add is that technically Amby is still viable in some cases. For example, if you just getting rid of one enemy, say, razorback sniper up close, then yeah it kills slightly faster then stock. Also in rare cases where enemy has below 100 h but above 60 hp, they can be one shot with amby so, amby is good as a backup tool, use it to dispose of one enemy pestering you and move on, while stock revolver is better for gunspy due to more consistent slightly better dps.
While I do think the Diamondback in the right hands can be stronger, that goes for spies who use knife far more than the revolver. A spy like me gets enough revolver kills to where it has crits almost never and I’m left with a weaker stock revolver 75% of the time. I also find it kinda boring, so I don’t use it for that reason either.
I would honestly trade out the 15% damage penalty in exchange for a 15% slower firing speed and 2 fewer bullets in the clip for the Ambassador, but that's honestly about it. This is because even with body shots, it still does more damage reliably than the L'tranger with most classes, except for Demoman, Soldier, Heavy, and Pyro. However, even then how you are supposed to play against those classes is honestly so specific to the point where if you are struggling with the Amby, why not switch on over to the knife and disguise and turn invisible your way behind their backs and backstab them. Or even just trickstab them? Gun Spy is thought of as a gimmick for a reason people, and that's because it is meant to complement the limited range of the knife, not be something you should solo dedicate yourself to using.
I see where you’re coming from, but I would rather have spy as a whole reworked before any weapons are reworked. Since the weapon balance would already be screwed up from that kind of rework there’d be no point in changing something now only to have to change it later anyway.
@indigomer In my opinion, if Spy were to be reworked he should just be given a wide variety of tools and weapons to be able to infiltrate or gather information from the enemy team. Maybe give him a set of binoculars. Maybe make the Sappers able to slow down cloaked Spies and slow down Medics and temporarily cut off their Uber by sapping the back of their Medi-Guns. Maybe give the Spy fake dummies to put down, you know, various other tools that may or may not be useful.
7:53 I really like how this turned out in the end :) Also, about the video, I agree Amby is still worth using. i use to run Ambassador all the time back in 2019ish, but i play more knife spy now than gun spy now. Great video, 10/10 :)))

10:57 Hey bro! Feel like I'd drop my thoughts on this. So I have ~800 kills on my strange DB, and ~200 on my Ambi with a 50% headshot kill ratio. I started playing with the Diamondback since it was basically a straight upgrade, and about a month in tried the Ambi, got a headshot and thought it was the coolest thing EVER. I played more with it and realized how fun it was, but honestly when I compare it to the DB I don't feel like using it really ever. The main draw of the ambassador is headshots, however I feel like you aren't adequately rewarded enough for hitting them. I find myself having more fun getting a few stabs, then going as far away as I can and plinking people for 102. It's really fun, and not to mention useful in a pinch. I feel like the Ambassador should be the best pick, since it's skill based, fair to fight, and respectable to die to (not to mention incredibly satisfying) but until the day valve removes headshot fall-off I gotta stay on the DB. Too much fun for me to drop
I do agree since Ambassador has been nerfed and the DB has not, one is definitely in a more powerful position than the other. But personally I find DB to be boring, and since I don’t get enough stabs to keep crits all the time I don’t benefit from it.
i love how TF2 is the only game, in my personal experience at least, where the guns you start with are almost all Meta, this game could literally have no unlocks and barely anyone would notice it lmao
Its still good after the nerf as it is still possible to absolutely dominate with it. The only objective problem with it though is there is an invisible line where the damage goes from 54 to 18 instantly. So I would say remove the max headshot range but keep the falloff allowing for 54 damage headshots at long range. It fixes the only issue and Spies can now headshot at any range be it at less damage and then the weapon is perfect.
As a "tryhard" myself, that's just how we have fun in-game. I personally like to tryhard because its fun. Playing with weapons that handicaps me doesn't give me as much fun.
You forgot one type of tf2 players. Not a casual or tryhard you have the "on and off" player aka me. I wont touch the game for 2 or 4 months come back to it for 2 or 3 months and rinse and repeat.

120 damage isn't enough for 2 less bullets and even slower firing speed.
