You are the person I wanna talk to. I wanna put an old screaming Detroit in a box truck for work. What are things that I will need to look out for if I go through with this?
@@_.incredible_magnum._291 Decide what Detroit you want to fit in and make sure it’ll fit. Then you’ll have to fab all the mounts etc as there are no kits. Transmissions are another consideration depending on what housing your engine has. Allison for an auto and an Eaton 6 speed or even more gears for a manual, lots of options there. If you can weld and fab, then it no big deal.:).
@@detroitgarage9430 I either want a 6v53 or a 6-71. I'll have to do compare block dimensions to a 5.9 Cummins or a 7.3 powerstroke. I was considering a 6 speed eaton with a 2 speed axle. Is the engine reliable and where would I find parts?
@@_.incredible_magnum._291 A 6/71 would be very impractical due to the sheer size and weight. They are a BIG engine. You might be able to cram a 3/71 in a pickup and that has been done. With a turbo it makes decent power and quite a lot of torque. Parts are still available. They are pretty simple all in all. There are 8v53's too if you want something unique and special. Mostly used in boats but that would be a tight fit but very unique and cool sounding.

The Coast Guard used twin 6V-53 T engines in their 44 foot motor surf boats with steel hulls.

All 53 series are dry liners, the 71 series and up are wet liners. You have a 6v71
