    My "Steal" vs "Steel" typo was not done to take a dig at Apple's prices for the Titanium version of the Apple Watch. It's just a dumb mistake. 🤦‍♂

  • @FC000
    @FC000 หลายเดือนก่อน +13

    While making the device thinner helps reduce bulk, it’s important to remember that watches with a height nearly matching the width of a person's wrist often appear oversized. The original "large" Apple Watch was 42mm, which many found too big, and they were glad that a smaller 38mm option was always available. Over several generations, the "small" Apple Watch has gradually increased in size, and we’ve now reached a point where today’s "small" matches the original "large" in dimensions, aside from a thinner profile.
    I don’t quite understand the need for this size creep in recent models, especially since the Ultra seems to satisfy the demand for a larger Apple Watch. I’ve been using a 40mm Series 5, and I still have my original 42mm 1st-generation watch on a shelf. Trying it on now looks ridiculous, I can’t see myself upgrading to a Series 10.

    • @mlegrand
      @mlegrand  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Good point FC. I think the 'looks ridiculous' is somewhat subjective. I have tiny wrists and wear massive watches. And yeah, maybe they look ridiculous but I've grown used to the massive size. Maybe some day we'll all wear iPhone sized watches on our wrists / arms 😂 Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍

    • @FC000
      @FC000 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@mlegrand I should have been more specific, I personally find the 42mm 1st gen to appear ridiculous on my own wrist 😆. I switched to the 38mm and then the 40mm on a Series 5.
      Whichever size others choose and love, go for it!

      I'm not actually a watch guy but my observation is that big chunky watches are in style right now, at least for men. I agree though that there should always be a small option. Maybe it's time they introduce 3 model sizes.

  • @motorolas

    Per Apple: 40mm, 41mm, and 42mm bands are all compatible with 40mm, 41mm, 42mm case sizes. 44mm, 45mm, 46mm, and 49mm bands are all compatible with 44mm, 45mm, 46mm, and 49mm case sizes. Glad to see the rumors of a new band size were unfounded and I can use my old 44mm and up bands.

      @mlegrand  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    • @motorolas
      @motorolas หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@AdamSmith-fe9jfIt's that overlap of the Series 1 42mm and the new Series 10 42mm that started confusion that Apple didn't make clear when I checked. 9to5 Mac posts: Older Apple Watch bands, including 41mm and 45mm sizes, will be compatible with the new 42mm and 46mm cases, and all new 42mm and 46mm bands will be compatible with older Apple Watch models.
      However, Apple has introduced a new band size that better fits the new 42mm Apple Watch Series 10. Customers can choose between the universal fitting or the new one. Now, when you buy a new Apple Watch band, you’ll see the following sizes:
      40mm: compatible with 38mm, 40mm, and 41mm (also fits the new 42mm case)
      42mm: designed for the new 42mm case, but also works with 38mm, 40mm, and 41mm cases
      46mm: universal size for 44mm, 45mm, 46mm, and 49mm cases (also works with the old 42mm Series 3 size)
      49mm: designed specifically for Apple Watch Ultra

    Fantastic, thoughtful video. I'm excited to see some comparisons to the AWU-2. If the S10 and S9 SIPs are extremely similar, then I feel like the AWU-2 stands out for: (1) battery life, (2) action button whereas the AWS10, Titanium stands out for its sleeker look and more comfortable feel. @Hor7719 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Compared with s8, the biggest difference between s9 and s10 is the screen and chip. I also plan to change to s10 this year, but in fact, it does not necessarily need to be replaced with s10.
    Because the siri response speed and faster voice input brought about by the upgrade of the s9 chip actually brings a completely different experience from s8. But i think the chip of s10 should be same as from s9.
    But I think it's more disappointing that the screen frame has actually become more thicker. Does this mean that the next generation or the next next generation or the next next next generation will narrow the current frame as the main selling point? ha
    At that time, 46mm will be upgraded to 48mm or 49mm, but the size of the watch will not change.

      I"m still ver surprised that battery life isn't a factor on this device in Apple's mind. There's been a few times that where Apple has increased the efficacy of the Apple Watch but not thought that people would love more battery life but instead want the display to refresh more frequently or add some other small feature. It'd be interesting to see what people do if given a choice in a settings menu somewhere. 🤷‍♂️

    • @jaredweiman2987

      @@mlegrand The average end user of an Apple Watch likely charges it next to their phone every night. While I'd like more battery life, a Garmin is designed for a significantly more rugged lifestyle than the AW. A 30 minute dive demolishes the battery on my Ultra 2, but it also eats crazy battery life out of my $2,000 Shearwater Perdix also. Usage dictates actual battery life. Always on display, constantly refreshing notifications and email, etc. eat up more battery.

The same lame and unreasonably 18 hours of battery life or even the 36 hours of the Ultra 2 can't compete with Gamin AMOLED watches (Forerunner 965, Epix 1, 2, Fenix E, Fenix 8) and especially with the MIP watches (forerunner 955, Fenix 7, Fenix 7 pro, Enduro 2, 3, Fenix 8 Solar); again Apple Watch lacks relevant physiological parameters for athletes, lacks topological maps, useful navigation, even the flashlight... but the same battery is a shame.
