My Summer survival tip is to do tasks that make you focus on things that thrive in the heat (even if you don't). I distract myself by sowing quick growing lettuces and other vegetables in my garden. Look, if I can't avoid Summer, at least I know the sweaty effort results in fresh produce. And home grown strawberries in Summer is so rewarding. I vicariously enjoy Summer by seeing every plant become lush with leaf and fruit growth, even though I'm wilting from the heat and get super miserable. I also make sure to get up super early every Summer morning to be outdoors when it isn't crazy warm and enjoy the peace, along with the birds. That's definitely an important self care reward for making it through another horrible hot day and night.
OK - I know you didn't ask for advice - so please just scroll past and ignore if this is not the right time - I am 50 and spent over 30 years detesting my body and not doing the things I really wanted to do (I LOVE the water). One thing that really helped me with the whole bathing suit thing was to buy the UV swimwear. It was a way for me to be covered up without thinking people were looking at me because I just looked sun smart (😉)! I bought a separate top and the shorts and then slowly as I got more comfortable, I would just wear the shorts with a bathing suit or vice versa. And then eventually, I started just wearing the bathing suit. I hope you find something really fun that you love doing this summer! 🌸🌻🌼
I was going to suggest the same thing! I am very sensitive to the sun so eventually I realized that I could wear UV protective swim wear all the time, and I enjoy it a lot too! I prefer the rash guard style a lot over bikinis which I've always hated wearing. Even my underwear is more coverage than a bikini lol! I used to feel a lot of pressure to wear those tiny bathing suits but it just isn't me and I finally got comfortable wearing what works for me in my early 30s. But yeah then I also get sun protection which is very important to me so I find it a great solution. I'm glad you were able to use UV protective swim wear to help grow your body confidence ❤
Very pretty. I understand not liking summer especially living in Florida. My favorite thing is Lots of sunlight after work and not needing a coat. I am planning to enjoy more walks this year 💛💚🐝🌼
I went to Florida last spring mainly to be in the water. Springs, Ocean, swim, scuba dive, see wildlife, not caring about body issues one bit... Thb from a woman in her 40s: once you truely don’t care about other people‘s opinions, you‘ll feel a new level of joy and freedom. Took me long though.
I live in Texas, and I do everything in the mornings and nights in the summers. You have to siesta in the afternoon, because it is just too hot to live. We garden in the morning until the heat of the year. Once it gets really, really hot, we tend to garden at night, but honestly we just accept that most of the plants will die in the heat. We go to parties, grill and attend bonfires, or take walks in the evenings when it is reasonably cool. There's a big music scene where we are, so a lot of Texans go to local concerts or emo nights (we're millenials). We go to a lot of big concerts as well. We are fortunate to have an indoor county pool we can access for exercise, but local waterparks are the way most people go here to be honest.
I think we feel the NEED to do things outside in the spring and summer because we were just cooped up all winter, but honestly, it doesn’t have to be outside. Maybe going to the library, maybe roller skating. Whatever is going to give you the dopamine is the perfect spring time activity. I’m not and outdoorsy gal but come spring time I’m “outsidey”, so drinks on a patio, putt putt or go karts are things I’m drawn to come springtime. Maybe those will work for you
I adore your make-up, def I am going to recreate it! I HATE summer so I try to enjoy the little things and focus on its positive features: longer days and excellent fruits and vegetables 🌿🌼🌷🍒
My fav summer activities are reading in the shade of a tree in the grass or on my shaded patio, hiking and walking trails, kayaking, swimming (it took me awhile to get over my insecurities too so I feel you) exploring nearby towns and cities, and water parks (volcano Bay was fun!) I also frame enjoying summer because I get to wear cute summer clothes and cover myself in body glitter haha. Festivals/carnivals/etc are also a fun time!
love this look! my favourite thing to do in the summer is go swimming! im really looking forward to sitting out on my deck with my dogs and reading! i also love going for walks!
Very pretty look! I've visited Clearwater and it was pretty nice. There are alternatives to traditional bathing suits - board shorts, swim shorts that go from booty shorts all the way down to capri lengths, tankini swim tops, rash guard shirts that are short to long sleeve. My biggest insecurity as a plus-sized gal is my stomach, so high-waisted bottoms with some rouching have been great for me. I live in Long Beach in SoCal, and I'm not a fan of the heat or humidity, I hate being sweaty or wet in my clothes, so I have to resign myself to it being a "sweaty" day if we are going outdoors, wear just tinted sunblock and bring the travel sized deodorant. I have a ginormous black sun hat and a sun tent that folds down into a little circle off of Amazon that I take to the beach and parks. We have frequent "festivals" in the parks near the water, most food related like BBQ, corn, and crawfish, but also Pagan Pride Day and Pirate Day. We go to the beach too, and have a wave-wall because of the Queen Mary and Carnival Cruise Terminal so the water is nice and calm, no huge waves. We try to go to farmer's markets and local cafes to enjoy seasonal fruits, veggies, and drinks. My husband skateboards and I rollerblade on the beach walking/riding paths. We usually go to the Renaissance Faire since my SIL works there, I like getting my hair braided. Also the LA and OC county fairs for some snacks, live music, and a couple henna tattoos. Summer is my least favorite season, but I'm grateful for the nature near us and try to enjoy the wetlands and hiking trails too. 💖🧚♀🐇🐿🐣🦩🦜🐠🐟🦋🌸🌺🌻🌼🌷🌴☘🍉🍓🍑 P.S. Also wanted to add that though not Summer-specific, I take bellydance classes at the local recreation center. I've been doing it off and on for the last 15 years, and I highly recommend it. It's a great workout, and learning new techniques and how to move your body in a new way, even casually, is really confidence building and fun. There's all ages, all body sizes, you can wear whatever you want, and the music is awesome. I've made friends and found my current hairdresser in my class, so it could be good for business too, haha. 😄
I too am not a fan of spring and especially summer. I don't live in FL but even here it gets hot much earlier and the summers have gotten hotter and more humid now. Not sure what trees you have around you but here we have ones that flower in the spring. When they fall it does remind me of how magical it is in autumn. I try to enjoy that. I keep spooky and fall vibes around me all the time either with makeup, candles or perfume oils with witchy/fall nuances. I also go for walks in the summer as much as possible if the weather isn't super abysmal with heat. Being in nature helps me a lot. Love the idea of romanticizing these seasons! ☘
I hate summer as well and have been trying to grin and bear it. I’m have been enjoying having a vegetable garden, grilling out, reading outside, going for walks with the pup and having bonfires with friends (or alone). I hate being in a suit which is insane since I used to be on swim team AND a lifeguard. Body image issues suck but you are beautiful. Thank you for sharing your looks because they give me confidence when I need it.
As another Floridian, I finally went to Ichetucknee Springs last year (Gainesville) and did the tubing experience. It was so fun. Lots of little kids and, retirees, college kids but no one is super interested in others except for when you bump into other tubers on accident. People were so friendly there; but it does get busy quickly so I recommend getting there earlier in the day. I even saw a tubing dog. Oh, and it has beautiful tree cover so it isn't too hot. I can feel insecure too, but I feel reassured by the exhausted parents and drunk retirees and complaining tourists. ("It's hoooot.") I highly recommend St Andrews State Park in the Panama City Beach area for an actual beach experience. The water is so beautiful. Great beach, low parking fee (per car) and good bathrooms there as well. You can take a ferry to Shell Island Beach and explore even if you aren't swimming. I have some friends in Melbourne/Cocoa area, and we walked the Cocoa Riverfront area. Lots of shops, ice cream, live music. I hadn't done that since I was a little kid. Fun without being on the beach. We stopped into a magic shop for my friend's son. Also in that area, you can do a tandem Kayak with Zane in the evening and see bioluminescence on the Indian River Lagoon. It is magical. And the area you kayak isn't deep at all; so it makes it a little less scary. (I am a beginner, and I didn't have issues. You get a guide.) We got to see Manatees when we went. (Only drawbacks - it can get busy and sometimes you have to reschedule due to rain). Speaking of Volcano Bay, I haven't been yet either. I get a little wary of human stew areas after times of Covid. I did go to Cabana Bay hotel, the new retro one that has its own tiny lazy river, pools with a slide, and a giant hot tub. I bought drinks for a few people and suddenly all my money was gone. Don't get the souvenir cup; it isn't worth it. 😅 They also have an arcade and lounges. My fav part was the view of said Volcano at night from the hot tub. The simple things. I know Jessica Braun recommends Seaside (Haven't been personally). I also need to visit Crystal River again. I visit St Augustine every few years. There isn't really a beach there.... I was going to go on a wildlife boat ride last time but weather made us cancel. A reason to go back. ;) You probably have been already, but Charleston fits that walkable coastal area vibe too as far as non Florida places. Wow, this comment got long quickly. I plan to explore the majority of my home state. Eventually I will make it to the Dry Tortugas! 🐢
So pretty! I'm glad you did a look with this palette. I was hoping you would so I could get some inspo. This palette is on my wish list and I'm gonna pick it up after my no buy is up. Love this!
I also struggle with summer. When I was a kid it was much easier as I was always in the pool, at the river, or in the library. I miss swimming so much but where I live now, there isn't really good access to a pool. I do want to bring back some of the fun with things like making popsicles and sun tea. Tie-dye is also a great summer activity!
We have a very cool music festival in Québec during the summer so I like going there. Also we have very few warm weeks/months, so dining on a patio is must.
I am NOT a fan of the spring and summer either. It does not get too bad here in the PNW ( particularly Washington state ) BUT the short time we have the heat in summer here is still too long for me 🙃 I’ll forever be a fall and winter gal ✨✨✨💜 I am a fan of the spring/ summer makeup looks which are totally ok for our favorite times of the year too!!! 💞 much love!! Hope you have a great Sunday!
I love summer but I love being in the water. I live in the Midwest where it's humid and disgusting sometimes. We grill out a lot with friends, go to the lake and hang out on pontoon boats, pools are great too. I've felt insecure the past few years in a swimsuit but I've discovered cute retro styles that cover a little more. I always get compliments on them! 🍹🏖
I live near Cocoa Beach FL. I'm not a beach goer either, but the little beach town is cute and touristy. A beautiful natural spring park wakiwa is nice too. Have to explore more areas myself only been living on central FL for 2 years now.
I love going on picnics with my significant other during the spring/when the weather is good. Even if it’s just making some sandwiches and eating at a park table is fun
You should look at Jolyn suits! They’re a women focused brand with both athletic and leisure suits. They have super cute patterns and prints. I also like wearing a little swim skirt over a one piece.
This look is so magical! I’m a summer baby so I love summer. Spring and Fall are more comfortable for me. My body temp is either really hot or really cold😭😝🍃🌷🌹🌼🌱🧹
I’m a spring baby so I do enjoy my birthday season lol but I really loathe summer I try to travel to make it more exciting because I currently live in a desert and it gets unbearable. I love the beach and ocean! I just don’t live near them 😭 We do have pools and a river so I need to make time to swim. I get you about being insecure in your “beach body”. I’m not as confident in summer clothes much less bathing suits so I try to get really cute ones to help boost my confidence. I love the nostalgia of s’mores in summer around a campfire. It’s also a good time for indoor activities with AC like visiting museums or new restaurants. I just have to keep my eyes peeled for fun things to do until we’re back in an autumnal mood.
For swimming i usually wear a swimsuit set that's effectively a tank top and a short skirt. I just dont feel super comfortable wearing usual 2 pice bra/underwear sets. I've also used to wear a rash guard (with bra under it) and mens swim shorts. So if you want even more coverage that might be a good option too! I'm a huge fan of being in water, it's just such a fun feeling to me 💙 but i also dont want to be judged for my imperfections, looked at, uncomfortable, or hit on while im busy trying to have fun 🤣
I love the ocean, I moved from California to a landlocked state & I've been miserable in the summer since. I want to go find places to love where I live now this summer.
this look is so pretty and fresh 🌱🌱🌱 i am walking distance from Coney Island. It's definitely nothing like Universal or Disney. You can pretty much go through it in less than an hour. At least the boardwalk is nice. ✨
Betty-Jean I never would have guessed that you don't feel confident with your body because you are so absolutely beautiful! ❤ I get it though, I feel the same about myself, but you are so right about how we tend to be our own worst critics and assume that everyone else is being as critical of us as we are of ourselves in our own heads. Usually that isn't the case at all, and if someone is that concerned about how you look, they probably aren't worth wasting your energy worrying about what they think of you anyway. All that to say, you are gorgeous and I hope you find what you're looking for this summer. On that note, Darling Desi has some really nice videos about how to romanticize and embrace the different seasons. ❤❤❤
LOVE LOVE this look!! I just turned 30 last week. I live in Washington State, my favorite time is late summer and early fall. Funny enough summer used to be my favorite. I was also a fish I never wanted to get out of the water. I was so skinny that I literally couldn’t have it hot enough… once I turned 24 I slowly started gaining enough weight that all the sudden I could NOT handle the heat. The boob sweat man… I hate being hot!! Which is such a bummer because I remember absolutely loving summer. Halloween hunting has definitely helped me love summer again but I wish I could handle the heat more. I’m about to have my first baby so losing weight and getting healthier won’t be a thing for me until next year. I still love the water and even though I don’t look as good as I used to I don’t have an issue with my body… except for how it feels! I used to be very fit and these past 7 years or so my energy level just plummeted (I have narcolepsy) so I just don’t do as much. Which sucks because I’m very outdoorsy. I want my strong body back. That’ll be a goal for next year. This year I’m just going to spoil my new mom body with lots of love 🥰 I’m so excited to have a mom tummy. Which apparently is a weird thing to be excited for, so most women tell me haha but I just love them. So soft! I feel like you’ve answered this question before but would you both ever move more north? I know his family is there and your clients are there but I wasn’t sure if that was in your radar or just something that can’t happen? I just always feel bad when people are in an environment that they can’t enjoy. Hopefully you can find things this summer that will surprise you with how much you enjoy them! :)
Such a pretty look 😊 I'm getting ready alongside you 😀 I think it's a great idea that you shift your mindset around summer, especially when it's so long for you 😊 Taking daytrips sounds like a great suggestion that I might do too 😀 I hope to get out more this summer on my husbands motorcycle 🤞 He bought special seat and back rest worth 2000$, so I would sit comfortably behind him. But we only took one ride last year 😅 He of course rides alot without me, but damn that special stuff for me is barely used 🙈🙉
Try to remember if someone that you don't know is judging you. What difference does their opinion matter anyway you are never going to interact with them and their opinion doesn't matter.
I loved this look on you. It’s so bright and optimistic and fun. I hope you put your insecurities behind you. You might try laps in the morning or evening to make you more comfortable in your skin again. Once you are in the water all those body image issues kind of float away. You look beautiful and that is shining through.
I live in Central Texas and legitimately get seasonal depression every summer because it's too hot to go outside or even open the blinds during the day. Summer blows 🧡
My best suggestion would be to take your big trips in the summer so you get away from "Florida summer". I live in California and i love all seasons but i think that's bc all seasons are fair here 😅
It's so sad to stop yourself from enjoying the water! Really I feel nobody cares about other people's bodies. I swear we women do that to ourselves. You look gorgeous! Don't ever feel insecure 💠💠💠 I recommend summer cinema (if it's a thing in America), summer music festival and summer parties. Dancing close to the sea is so fun!
okay so this is alternative advice: wear a rashguard sun shirt? and swim shorts?/skorts that's what i do and now i don't care and i don't think about bringing along a cover-up either
I live in central PA and its currently snowing and in the 20s here, i was just telling my husband i need it to be warm because wow i am miserable. I dont think id enjoy summer in florida though haha. PA summer is much different. And i think you are absolutely beautiful but i get the insecurities. If it makes you feel any better, i will be heavily pregnant this summer at the water park with my 3 year old.. so i feel the insecurities already about that.. but i figure by next year, those people wont remember me and my giant belly out there 😅
Have you and Zane ever gone kayaking? It was something I finally tried when I was in FL, and I really loved it! Definitely not a real beach girl either. Almost 3 years in FL and don't think I went to the beach once. Lol
💘Another Great Video💘 GorgeouS thumbnail tho💜 🥰🥰🥰Drop Dead Beautifully You Are 💙😍😍😍🖤Ur Makeup Always Look Pretty Those Breathtaking Eyes Love Em 😍Super cute earrings Nice Ass Cheeks Bones Good morning Happy Sunday Too You Have a Spectacular Week Ahead Stay Bless N Be safe Always
I wish it was warm! I am from Canada, where last week it was beautiful, 10 degrees and sunny (celsius, which is 50 fahrenheit according to google) and today it was below freezing and snowing. Can we trade? Bring on the warm weather, I'm ready for it!
I hate the beach too!!!! I hate when the sand gets everywhere and especially when you wear sunscreen and it stinks to you, so gross… But unfortunately my partner loves being on the beach, because he loves diving 🙈

I looove early morning walks/jogs before it gets hot!

Fairs, festivals, fires!! And movie nights. I also hate summer and like being inside rather than in the heat, I like going to museums too
This look is so magical! I’m a summer baby so I love summer. Spring and Fall are more comfortable for me. My body temp is either really hot or really cold😭😝🍃🌷🌹🌼🌱🧹
I’m a spring baby so I do enjoy my birthday season lol but I really loathe summer
I try to travel to make it more exciting because I currently live in a desert and it gets unbearable.
The ocean IS terrifying!! Winter went by way too fast. ❤
Your look is gorgeous 👏
Such a pretty look 😊 I'm getting ready alongside you 😀
I think it's a great idea that you shift your mindset around summer, especially when it's so long for you 😊 Taking daytrips sounds like a great suggestion that I might do too 😀
I hope to get out more this summer on my husbands motorcycle 🤞 He bought special seat and back rest worth 2000$, so I would sit comfortably behind him. But we only took one ride last year 😅 He of course rides alot without me, but damn that special stuff for me is barely used 🙈🙉
I am with you girl... I hate the beach. Give me a pool and I am happy. 😘💜
Hi! May I know where your top is from? 💜
🌸🌼🌺🌸love the look😍 and love your earings🥰👻
Try to remember if someone that you don't know is judging you. What difference does their opinion matter anyway you are never going to interact with them and their opinion doesn't matter.
Even if people you do know are judging you, they're not truly there for you and not worth the time!💗
Rockaway Beach in New York is cute too if you’re going all the way to Cooney Island 🏝️ love the blush combo btw
Ooo good to know!
If someone is staring they might just be admiring the ink. Don't overthink and enjoy your summer!!!
Float a river!!! I love ginnie springs. Don’t go on a weekend though- frat boys 😂.
Don't ever feel insecure 💠💠💠
I recommend summer cinema (if it's a thing in America), summer music festival and summer parties.
If it makes you feel any better, i will be heavily pregnant this summer at the water park with my 3 year old.. so i feel the insecurities already about that.. but i figure by next year, those people wont remember me and my giant belly out there 😅
Happy st paddy’s day, Betty-Jean! 🍀 personally I’m a water lover. I won’t get into the ocean though, those days are behind me.
❤❤❤
Have you and Zane ever gone kayaking? It was something I finally tried when I was in FL, and I really loved it! Definitely not a real beach girl either. Almost 3 years in FL and don't think I went to the beach once. Lol
i haven’t!
Haha for weather reasons alone I could never live in Florida. Also the bugs.
it wasn’t my choice to be born here hahaha
I'm constantly telling my daughter exactly what you said about people judging you in your swim suit, put on the suit & go have fun 😊

I wish it was warm! I am from Canada, where last week it was beautiful, 10 degrees and sunny (celsius, which is 50 fahrenheit according to google) and today it was below freezing and snowing. Can we trade? Bring on the warm weather, I'm ready for it!
💙💚💜
🌸🌸🌼🌷
Bonfires!
I hate the beach too!!!! I hate when the sand gets everywhere and especially when you wear sunscreen and it stinks to you, so gross…
But unfortunately my partner loves being on the beach, because he loves diving 🙈
suchhh an icky feeling hahaha
I hate summer so much. So I feel you
💗🌷👍🏻🌹🌞🌿🌳
🍉🍑☀️🌧️
🩷🌸
I love Spring and Summerbut here in Germany its not that bad I guess? So yeah.
Must be nice haha
Thank you BETTY Jean for the video ❤❤❤❤Gorgeous!!! 🎉❤🎉👍🏻 love your Content Kiss your fur babies for me xoxox 😘 pray
I love spring and summer, but this year I could skip them entirely. I am NOT a fan of cicadas and we are forecast to have a ton here. Ugh
I've always been conscious of showing my body. I think that's why I'm covered in tattoos so they hide my skin
