  • Maverick City Music Group are a very popular Contemporary Christian music group. They are known for their many hit songs and with their recent collaboration with Elevation Church, Maverick City Music has reached new highs. But this success has come with a price. Maverick City Music has compromised their lyrics to appeal to a larger audience and it's putting them on the verge of collapse. In this video, I react to a recent performance by Maverick City Music at the BET Awards and it's not good.

I use to hate gospel music before I got saved. When I first got saved, I must say that Maverick City's music had me on my knees crying worshipping God. But after a while I began to realize that their music and whom they were singing to started to change as they got more recognition, I noticed the compromise and stopped listening to them. Fame and fortune has definitely turned them to the world. I pray they turn back to the truth and leave such worldly things behind. They are trying to be friends with the world, Jesus sat with sinners but he never partook in the sin. Christian singers who sing with brazen secular artist only send the message that you can continue to do you and still be blessed by God, no need for repentance or turning from sin. This is how Satan merged paganism and Christianity, keep your idols and add a little bit of Jesus. God is more than enough, these things will all pass away.

I agree with most of what you have said except the Billy Porter explanation. When I was a sinner, gospel music did have a soul-searching effect on me, but it also gave me an occasion to worship and praise a God, that I was not fully surrendered to as yet - AND this is what pulled me closer. Singing and clapping to Gospel music doesn't necessarily mean he was comfortable in sin while praising God. Let's not be too presumptuous in our assumptions. Again, I agree with a lot points in this video 🙂

It makes me so happy to see so many of us using discernment. I did not pay attention to the Steven Furtick collaboration however I started paying closer attention to them and the moves that they were making after the announcement of the Kirk Franklin collaboration. It was downhill from there but this is a group of highly annoying to individuals and I pray they come out of this darkness that they are in. It’s sad how this has happened to so many powerful anointed Christian leaders. The lust of the eyes is a real thing. Lusting after the things of this world and being tempted to compromise. This music industry is something you can’t play with. You have to pick a side. With my 15-year-old prophesied to be a producer, I was initially frightened. I could see it in him since he was eight though. After the prophecy, for four hours that day at my apartment you could hear heavenly trumpets playing in his room. It was prophesied that he would hear prophetically etc. but also that he needed to be careful because the enemy was trying to wrap him up with certain people. It will be my daily prayer that Yahusha protects him and he can hear the voice of God and stand firm in all of these things I’ve been teaching him. I pray Maverick city can do the same

That’s when I notice their change. After they connected with Kirk, and became more well known and people outside of gospel started noticing them and asking them to sing here and there, that’s when their heads started to turn. I noticed that some of the ones that use to be in around the group was no longer there I knew something has happened within the group. Those out front, have felled in love with the fame snd are loving it! The industry got them right were they want them. Loving the attention, the fame, notoriety. It’s not even about the money for them, it’s the fame more so. And they loving every second of it! That’s when they became lost! That’s when the change happened. I never saw the one with Faith Evens, but the Will Smith, was too much! Singing around the pits of hell was not right at all. That was one invitation they should have never accepted. They needed to learn that all invites are not to be accepted! Regardless of who the invite is from! Not all good, or good for them, or have their best intentions. This is what Kirk should have been teaching them. Since they look at Kirk as a mentor. But Kirk shouldn’t have been there either! So he is not the one to give them that best advice. And I wonder sometimes , if when Kirk felled and hit his head and almost lost his life, if it was than that the switch took place for him, to just let loose all his inhibitions?? It just seems a lot changed in him after that! More let loose and live type of thing, even his facial structure, hairline, just his overall appearance changed!! Just think about that! Look it that !! Not even judging him, cause with a head injury things can change in a person. He was totally out, his future was unknown. They had him under for a long time, so his brain and head could heal. What other changes could have been taking place inside, with the devil knowing he has things he wrestles with, and he trying to walk with God in this industry ! There just could have been a war being fought while he was lying there healing from his fall.
Now back them MC, maybe once this new found fame wears off, they may find themselves waking up and realizing just who they are letting down, and who they have allowed to takeover their lives. Time will tell. Sooner than later!

Hi Brother, I really respect your calm tone as you discuss this issue but I have a genuine question: You say that the fact that "Billy Porter...a man who wears dresses" was singing and clapping is some sort of proof that Maverick City were doing something wrong or at least headed down a wrong path. Then you went on to say that a person like him "should be trembling under conviction." I'm wondering why you believe this to be true? What in the life and teachings of Jesus has led you to believe that your statement is true? Also, what would "trembling under conviction" look like? How would we know, just from looking with our natural eye, if Billy Porter or any other person felt convicted?
Side note: I'm not a fan of Maverick City and I don't really have an opinion on whether they should perform at award shows. I'm just bothered by the notion that we can look and judge a person's (in this case Billy Porter's) response to the gospel based on what we see with our natural eye. I think that could be a dangerous and unbiblical belief to hold.

When I first listened to Maverick City music, I loved them! At the beginning it was so Spirit filled and deep, convicting, where you'd want to get it right with the Lord then and there. The more they progress it's just catchy music with a message, but it doesn't hold that same weight as their old music held. I'm never to say where anyone is in there journey with Christ, but back then you could feel the surrender. I pray that God keeps them and they follow Him on the right path. 🙏🏾

As a christian, I have experienced times when I could not sing aven ONE song during the entire service ! before I was a dancer and choreographer, but now I long for Hymns without "noise" (loud and secular style of music). It is the Spirit of God that's make all the difference. Having consecrated worship leaders is a must. The scriptures says Let EVERYTHING that hath breath praise the Lord. It didn't say let everything that is "saved" according to your standard praise the Lord. I don't get your point. Who or what gives you the authority to say who can praise God? If you did anything research you would know he came out of COGIC church. As probably most of the people in that building probably came out of the church.

    • @ByTheBookMinistries
      @ByTheBookMinistries  2 ปีที่แล้ว

I appreciate your comment. However, your comment only introduces more issues. The COGIC church is not known for their sound theology, instead they are notorious legalist and rules driven. That explains why Billy Porter is not a Christian but why he’s still accustomed to “praising” God; because he’s been conditioned by a works based denomination. So what good is singing and clapping to a watered down song doing for him, other than making him feel good about his version of Jesus he’s created? Billy needs the Gospel. Songs don’t save people but they certainly can lead people down a dangerous path.

WIth all do respect, I think that it is ignorant to address that because Billy Porter was standing up singing and not in shame that Maverick City is out of bounds. Also, we hold too much esteem for people/ humans/ and young adults at that….Lets remember that as believers we are only righteous because he said we are. We have no Idea of the seeds that were sown from the song and I guess we still don't understand the power in receiving God's Love. The last thing that we should want people to do (Billy Porter) is hide and be of shame and no I am not knocking conviction but challenging the false idea of being delivered from that that which we hide and or suppress. what true deliverance comes from hiding? All this does is push people towards an accepted community. think about how gangs are formed. In that same video I saw two young men making a mockery out of deliverance as well , which the camera man totally shinned a light on and in my opinion was intentional. A gay Man and Mockers got cameos during the performance. I think it is a bigger picture, and here we come in our ignorance playing into it. I am starting to understand why certain people cant fish everywhere. Maverick City did a great job despite the mistakes they have possibly made in their camp. Keep singing y’all and seeking God.

How long have many of us been so deep in our sin that it took more then just gospel music, and praying to pull us out? It took a lot for for me. I could go sit in church and because the hold the enemy had on me was so strong it blinded me. It's so sad to see people of God publicly talking about other people of God. It is our responsibility as Children of God's kingdom to pray for each other, not point out what we feel are flaws. Pray and let God be God. All this is doing is validating what non-believers already think. By you calling them out how are you separated from everyone else. We are suppose to become ONE church but yet we choose to allow the enemy to keep us divided. They thought they didn't need a savior. But they did and so do you Garry. You aren't better than they are. You're not holier. You've falling short, I've falling short we all need Jesus. Seriously Blossom, reading comprehension. He'd be sitting right next to Billy Porter just as he sat and dined with criminals, prostitutes and tax collectors. The lowest of the low in Jewish society back in his time. The Will of God was to SEEK AND SAVE THE LOST by ministry. Seriously, do you think Jesus just went to those people's homes just to eat? Hence why he went to those people. You may think you're so holy and above "sinners" but you're not. You're not special. You're sinner just like them and just like me. We all fall short of the glory of God. We all deserved to die on a cross because of our sin. But that's why Jesus came, because we're all in need of a savior. Hence why Jesus always approached these so called "sinners" with open arms and acceptance and why he constantly chastised the Holy Members of the Jewish faith. They thought they were better than the prostitutes and the tax collectors etc etc. But they weren't in fact they were in worse shape cause at least the "bad people" recognized they needed help. The Holy people were too good for Jesus. Which is why they killed him.

I already know you'll ERASE THIS COMMENT.
You're using scripture as an excuse to be a HATER! You have no idea the path that God has placed Maverick City on, nor do you know the affect they've had on the backsliden or sinful people they've worked with. You are speculating & assuming the worst. Nowhere in scripture does it say "Love speculates & assumes the worst of his brothers in Christ". But let's say you're right, & Maverick City is wrong. Should you then expose them as Ham did to his father Noah? Or shouldn't you go to them & cover them as Noah's other sons did? A real shepherd covers the people in prayer instead of making a public shame of them. & as for Billy Porter... did you really draw up his entire life from seeing him clap his hands? You have no idea how God may have been working on his heart in that moment. Man looks on the outward appearance (you sir), but God sees the heart. If Samuel would have been like you, he would've discounted David & he never would have been anointed to be king. Maverick City may very well be exactly what Diddy needed to change the trajectory of his view towards God. If singing a pop song was part of God's plan, so be it! Hosea married a whole prostitute under God's direction! It looked strange to all who would judge. If you're coming down on Maverick City for singing that song, then come down on yourself if you ever watched Lion King, or Captain America, or Barney the Dinosaur, or anything that failed to teach Christ. Shame on you for partaking in it! You don't know where Biggie's heart was before he died! His mother's prayers may have reached Heaven, & God took him while he was in a repentant state, just like the man who said to Jesus, "remember me when you enter your kingdom". You are literally teaching people to do exactly what Jesus warned us will put us in danger of the fire of Hell, which is how to JUDGE! You're responsibility is to go to your brothers & sisters & get an understanding. Not to spread gossip & judgment on people who are spreading the gospel.

It's important to know God can and will bring people to His family through our goodness or our sinfulness, but that doesn't mean He is pleased equally by our sin vs goodness. As redeemed, new creations, dead to sin, alive in Christ, our intentions should be submitted to showing the undeserved love of christ. Jesus asks that our actions look a certain way. Out of love for Christ and trust in His words (not just legalism or rule following) I want to walk the straight and narrow according to The Word. I just hope Maverick and Kirk are examining borh intentions AND actions.

Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”

I found no issue with the fact that Billy Porter was worshiping God. I was happy to see it. Yes he is an openly gay man; however, just because he is gay that doesn’t mean that he can’t worship God. How can we bring people to Jesus and we are judging them and making them feel like they don’t belong? Billy Porter could have felt convicted later on. Hearing them singing that night may have stayed on his heart. Also we’re not supposed to make unbelievers uncomfortable they’re supposed to automatically feel welcome and loved in the presence of the Lord they are supposed to be received and given the same grace, love, and mercy that is given by Jesus Christ. Jesus himself ate dinner and spoke with sinners. Your video was judgmental and I’m gonna be honest it reminded me of when the Pharisees noticed Jesus eating with sinners and talking to sinners it’s like you’re the the Pharisees nitpicking everything that they are doing. Notice how Maverick city only joined in on a song that had nothing to do with sin nothing to do with money drugs or women it’s just about missing a person. I pray that you re-watch your video and kinda see where I’m coming from at least consider another perspective and ask God about the video because from my perspective it’s judgmental. God bless!

We must judge righteously Matthew 7:1, Deuteronomy 1:16.. Jesus was not understanding or joyful when it came to calling out sin he used the term fools and much more. If you’re going to lead a group of people to worship Jesus should always be the center I see many comments saying things like “their lyrics saved me” when they should be saying it was Jesus that saved them. P diddy is well known in the industry for doing some very dark & manipulative things, Its just not a good look & I don’t think it should be excused or brushed under the rug.

@@kapagirlcutiewzw2609 Given that their songs are completely Jesus centered I could understand why somebody would say “these lyrics saved me.” When we’re going through a rough time we turn to the word of God but we also turn to worship. The enemy cannot stand or linger around us when we worship God. Our praise is a weapon! And we are reminded through worship, which is to God how loving God is and that He is worthy of all the praise. In no way was Jesus tolerating sin. However he also did not condemn those who sinned and in that video this man is clearly condemning someone who is a sinner for worshiping God and that’s wrong. Are you saying that those who have done very dark and manipulative things are not worthy of being treated with the same love and grace that God has given us are you saying that they should be condemned that we should never associate ourselves with them that we should push them away That we should cast them out. Diddy could have a heart change tomorrow, sometime next year, or sometime in five years. And I do remember him giving a testimony in his award acceptance speech that acknowledged how God was at the center of him healing from losing a loved one. So are you also pointing a finger at Bishop T.D. Jakes for ministering to Diddy during that tumultuous time?

@@kapagirlcutiewzw2609 Yes! We can’t focus on how that person is living their lives we just know a seed has been planted. One thing I love about worship music is the words. With Maverick city music, their words and a lot of their songs is from the Bible which makes sense because it’s about God. I think you would enjoy their music my favorite song by them is To You which is about the prodigal son returning to his father after leading a very selfish life. And I love how in the song they also relate it to how God is receiving us with open arms even though we’ve sinned.

I think you have issues man.
70% of my playlist is Maverick City and Chandler and his team affect my life positively. I totally disagree with your position.
You need to focus more on the lives he's he's affecting positively daily.
Even Jesus had dinner in the house of a tax collector. He let a wicked sinner wash His feet right in from of his disciples... damn...and I'm sure guys like you made videos condemning Jesus for letting that happen.
You need to take a chill pill bro and focus more on your journey.
I still feel the Holy Spirit whenever I listen to Chandler.
The experience is what you can't take away.
God sees his heart which you cannot see.
Now you've misled a lot of people through this video and many will start seeing Maverick City differently... that's bad and you owe them an apology.
What if it's the devil insighting you to make this video so as to mislead others. Now he has his way.
We all work for the same Master(Jesus).
Don't forget that and at the end of it all Jesus is glorified. That is what Maverick City stands for.

This is the reason Christianity is in decline. To much judging from imperfect people. I definitely DON'T agree 1 bit with Bill Porter I think he makes my whole RACE look bad. But to say God is not apart of the music because he stood up and enjoyed it. MAN you don't know what he is going through and how God used that song. Remember that was the ONLY time GOD was mentioned that night and for some next few months or ever again. You can be a light without being a flood light and blinding everyone. I'm just saying you don't know anyone's heart so to say their music is not inspired by GOD is sad. The church will continue to decline..

Quick question, if we don't take Gods word to the world, how is the world going to learn about him. As a new believer I appreciate people like Maverick City, Kirk Franklin and others who are not afraid of being condemned by man for stepping outside" the Christian box" to win souls for the Kingdom of God

Thank you for your question. Yes, we’re supposed to take the Gospel to the world. They performed at the BET Awards, didn’t present the Gospel or God’s word for that matter. And performed with Diddy and sang his songs. Stepping outside the “Christian box” has made Kirk Franklin a lot of money and at best a bunch of false converts who think they are saved.

@@ByTheBookMinistries does God disown his children because they make money. Alot of Christian/ Gospel artist collaborate with secular artist, this is called getting the Fathers word out. What does it matter how his word is shared as long as it's shared. Think about this; sometimes the only way some people hear about God is through unconventional methods, so what you're saying is because it's not done in a traditional setting it's not right. You're using Social media as your platform, some could say you're not really about saving souls but are trying to build your social media presence. Is that fair to you? Let's agree that the main priority is winning souls for the Kingdom and stop focusing on how we believe people should praise God and let people praise him they way they want to. If you have a problem with them and u know them discuss that with that person. Remember " LET HE WITHOUT SIN, CAST THE FIRST STONE". Save space for grace. Let's cover each other and stop condeming each other.

I disagree with you. The Bible says, Let everything that hath breath praise the Lord. Maveric city music is doing their part by glorifying God. We don’t know whose heart could’ve been touched in the crowd. What if the man wearing the dress's heart was touched to praise the Lord? Yes, he may not be living holy, but everyone and everything must give God praise. God commanded it to be so. We don’t dictate who should give God praise or not for man judges the outward appearance. God looks at the heart. And no I’m not justifying his lifestyle holiness is right, nevertheless all must give God the glory.

You win people to christ by just having Jesus character. We got to show love we can go to a restaurant with liquor. We can go to the store with liquor there. We can be examples by not looking Down on a person. In still give a person that's doing wrong . We watch movies that's made by not saved people. We so churchy it's ashame just spread love that will bring people to christ just by being real. You don't know what God got I'm store for them people. We need to stop looking down on them people..we so worried about a image in the people in the church. In its people like me thar has been talked down by deacons in a Pastor..straight up rejected. They was more concern about what drug I'm on in why I was in this situation. He didn't even take time out to share some scriptures or pray for me.

The goal is to plant the seed and allow GOD to do the work. We don't have any power on our own. Trembling doesn't dictate anointing or a move of God. Now I'm side eyeing YOU. Are you teaching facts or fiction?
