@@christianbugatticg it's incredible that ALL of the factory stuff was with the car!
My dad was part owner of a dealership in the late Seventies/early Eighties and I remember working there during summers.
One of my jobs was prepping special order cars (Chrysler Plymouth Dodge Imperial) and I'd flip out if some specific thing that was supposed to go with a specific car wasn't available.... All the guys at the dealership were like "whatever!" and I'd imagine that loads of those cars were never even delivered with half of their special equipment... Like the custom umbrellas that were supposed to go with the early Eighties Imperial Frank Sinatra Edition, etc...
I'd even go as far as to say that a lot of the customers either didn't care the stuff wasn't there, or maybe were unaware it was SUPPOSED TO be there, too.
But man... Ya did good here! That's probably the best example of a Diamond Mark on the planet.

Stunning car, stunning survivor. I recall when these were on the road in their day, and this is not a takeaway from this particular car, as they would all do this...but it was a common sight when you would meet one of these on the road at highway speed for the section of that body color overlay on the front bumper the width of the grill to catch air under it and lift it up off the bumper and as it maintained highway speed it would be flapping up and down, lol. They all did it back then, when new...wasn't like it one beater later on. I guess Ford wasn't big into wind tunnel testing back then, or if so it wasn't quite real-world. But you can see across the center front of the grill that panel top of the bumper the width of the grill section is not secured to anything behind it, not like the end sections under the headlights...that's the part that would lift up.

The Lincoln Mark V is the most beautiful luxury car ever built, bar none, including anything being built today. Fortunately, there’s plenty of these cars still available because people who purchased them took exceptionally good care of them. While Cadillac had the gorgeous Eldorado, that car wasn’t nearly as well assembled and had far cheaper materials in its construction, whereas Ford didn’t skimp a bit on the Lincoln Mark V.

I have watched all of the videos on this car and I have couple of questions: 1. You mentioned some fuel lines and filter being changed. Do you think it needs a new fuel tank and pump, due to sitting? 2. Do you know if the other fluids have been changed recently….coolant, brake, power steering, etc.? I’m guessing that those are not the original tires as the whitewall width seems wider than stock but not sure? This is an absolute time capsule but sometimes, cars sit and never started, things go bad and need so,e work so just wondering. Thanks!

    • @christianbugatticg
      @christianbugatticg  ปีที่แล้ว +2

Hey good morning Terry!!! So when I send these cars to my shop I tell my guys to go through and check everything! Sometimes they don't need to do much, sometimes it's odds and ends and sometimes it's brakes and wheel bearings. All fluids are checked, changed or topped as needed. Many times we have to do a muffler or exhaust.
Most of the cars that I buy, although low miles, not many have been sitting dead for decades. Most customers are still using them very sparingly, so rusted tanks and things of that nature are not normally an issue. On some cars we've had to do tanks, but very unusual. Tires are not original. The previous owner, I was told replaced the tires every so many years regardless of miles! Aside from the clock not working this one is ready to go!! Best of luck if you go for it on this one!!

Although the Mk.IIIs are my favorite (and probably the ULTIMATE QUALITY luxury car of the era) the Mk.Vs are absolutely beautiful.
The Mk.IVs just didn't seem "exclusive" enough because they looked too much like their Thunderbird siblings.
But those Mk.Vs turned that around!
Mom had an Emilio Pucci Edition that had no Opera Windows and a unique "reverse" vinyl half roof...
Gotta LOVE what's essentially a 20 foot long two seater! I remember that even as kids, my brother and I were a bit cramped in the back seat of her Mark... But there was PLENTY of front passenger room and almost comically too much hood out front.

Wow that's a nice Lincoln. Also I thought in the 1970's Lincoln had better built cars than Cadillac, that interior looks just a notch nicer than any 1976 or 77-79 Coupe Deville or Eldorado. Also the double sided keys where the same one opened the doors and turned the ignition were a nice touch. The 2nd key opened only the trunk, IIRC. GM had that stupid two key thing where one opened the door/trunk, while the other started the car, both were one sided/had to be inserted teeth down. First time I owned a Toyota after several GM cars, where it was one double sided key, I was like WTF GM???? Your stupid one sided two key thing is a PITA.

I think Lincoln missed the mark (no pun intended) on the Mark V. They introduced the new Mark III in '69 & sold it 3 years B4 moving up to the '72 Mark IV. That model ran with minimal changes through1976 (5 years) B4 the Mark V came along in '78. These were extremely expensive cars in the Day. My mom bought a new Grand Prix w/T-tops for $6,600. On your exquisitly beautiful Mark V, the only thing I'd change is the "ghetto cruisin" wide white walls back to the original "spec" look.

It turns out that the Mk Vs were delivered with a few different types of tires on them... The tires on Christian's DJ are pretty close to (if not actually) the original Michelin 1 3/4" white walls that many were delivered with.
I also remember seeing new cars with a double stripe white wall that was a 1 1/2" outer and 1/4" inner white stripe... I think those were Uniroyal.
And the dealerships usually offered the Vogue Tyre as an option... And at least down in Southeast Texas where I grew up, it seemed like EVERYONE bought those... They were a 1 7/8" outer strips with a yellow 1/4" inner stripe... I remember that even at the time, those things sold for something like $150 per tire!
The other "big deal" dealer option a lot of people down there would buy, were wire TrueSpoke wheels... And they apparently had so much disposable income, they'd just leave the factory aluminum wheels at the dealership!
I remember that there was a storage building on the lot my dad partially owned (Chrysler Dealership) back then... It was CHOCK FULL of the cast aluminum "Road Wheels" that customers just abandoned... Because they bought Vogues on TrueSpokes...
      Cheers!

@@slicksnewonenow I have never seen tires like these from the factory on a Mark V, or any Lincoln Mark for that matter. The Mark V had a standard Michelin whitewall that was around 3/4" wide, as well as the optional dual band wider white walls (standard on the Diamond Jubilee), made either by Firestone or Goodyear. The Michelins were technically superior as I understood it.
Car is amazing...don't let my comment about the incorrect tires detract from that, especially since tires are easily changed.

Ain’t no way you can say to me a Lincoln is better than a Cadillac.
A Lincoln is better. It’s a better automobile.
    Forget about it.
    A Cadillac’s got more acceleration.
    It’s got more power.
    It’s got better handling.
It’s got more legroom for your legs.
