"So...I hot glued it 😏" Made me cackle-laugh! Heck yes for making your makes work for you! Thanks for another great pod - it was exactly the energy I needed on my Saturday morning
Oh my goodness, your hot glue gun story made me laugh so hard! 🤣 I love everything about your pod. Your comment about what would have happened if Stephen West had let possible self doubts stop him from sharing his incredible talent really made me think. It is something that can prevent all of us from reaching our full potential and a great reminder to not let fear of failure be our guiding voice. Looking forward to your next pod.
Thank you Leena for a wonderful podcast. Thanks for sharing your love for Stephen West. I had the pleasure of meeting Stephen at VKLive a couple of years ago, just love his energy.
Leena, i just love your pod: it is part knitting obsession, part therapy session, part life motivation to be your best self! 💜 I love when you talked about "what if stephen west let self doubt creep in?" Oh my gosh, what a gem and a wonderful reminder to let your light shine. Thank you for making me smile every week!
My daughter is horrible at goodbyes too, tears for days! Your daughter sounds like such a sweet spirit. Your Bubble cardigan is such a work of art- added that to my queue. You got glued your knitting 😂 I would not say you are dramatic, you feel things! You get excited and share it! I try to remember that when my daughter is “drama” that she has all these feelings and I am lucky she feels safe sharing them with us. Ask me again when she is 13! 😂 Feel better soon!!!
Oh ya! There are days when all that emotion is really hard to deal with. I was pleased to read in that parenting book about teenagers that most of the emotionality of teenagers is finished by 14. That seems doable!
Omg glue! Yes! That’s resilience!! Please keep the book & pod recs coming! I’ve been eyeing pineapple street too but had the same wariness. Right now I’m reading Laura Groff’s the matrix and listening to Rosalind pike’s narration of sense and sensibility (which is delightful). Off to add the bubble cardi and cowl to my rav queue- your versions are ❤
Ooooo…sense and sensibility sounds like a good change of pace for me. I’m going to see if they have that on Libro.fm And yay for the bubbles going into your queue! It’s one of my favorite SW motifs. His genius is never-ending.
Every time I watch your podcast you say something deep that catches me off guard. I like you and I've never met you (which is weird). Good job on that Bubble cowl, I'm impressed.
Thanks for another great podcast Leena 👍😃. One of the things I really enjoy about them and your passion for knitting is your total love of actually using and wearing your knits, even though there may be imperfections. The hot glue gun story … genius! I love that you just simply made it work and rocked it, and love it in the end. I really aspire to have more of that attitude. I find myself stressing more about the perfection of my knits than of the joy they could actually bring me. My daughter also knits and she almost always leaves her mistakes and simply calls them “character” and “personalizations” 😂 So today when I watched this that lesson really hit me. Thank you
Hi Julie! Thank you for your super sweet message. I’m glad you feel inspired to enjoy your creations more and worry less about their imperfections. No one would know I hot glued that unless I told them! But I think it makes it memorable and personal. Yay for having a daughter that knits. Now that is a blessing!
Hi Stacey! Well, I taught myself to knit from You Tube! It was Stephen West and seeing the way he held his yarn continental that allowed me to transition from crochet to knit. I’ll chat about that more on a pod!
Hello again. Keep vlogging. I love watching and I’m so jealous you are out west in the cold weather. I am so glad I am still watching because it was ME who made the earlier comment on the Spincycle and now you have validated me. I, like you, was thinking “please don’t come for me but….” Both of the cardigans are beautiful. Hoping for a flake or two in New Jersey!
Hi Cheryl! I’m so glad to see your note! I was too lazy to go all the way back and look for the comment from earlier. You were totally right. It’s such a bummer huh! I forced myself to wear the Trinigan yesterday but I just don’t get that hand knit joy from it. Live and learn I guess. I’m surprised to hear you didn’t have a cold snowy winter in NJ! Was it unusually dry? It’s been unusually wet here for us!
Another great episode and I just love YOUR love of color. I started a new cast on this morning, and it has pink in it so it was exciting to watch you as I was knitting!! My favorite color is actually gray but I'm lucky it pairs well with most any color and I love it with pink. I'm also enjoying your Instagram presence! I love it when my mornings start with knitting, coffee and a fabulous & dramatic podcast! LOL Hugs from Texas!!
I am finding so much new inspiration watching you! Loving the bubble cowl, I think that might be in my future knitting plans. I just recently found out that Stephen West has his shop in Amsterdam and we will be there in June at the end of our river cruise! I think I have to go!!! Thank you for taking the time to make your videos, they are great!
Love the vlog. I am also a true crime fan, so will listen to the two podcasts you mentioned. I will also watch The Tinder Swindler. I finally watched The Most Hated Man on the Internet (Netflix). It was truly terrifying. I'm so glad my children grew up before social media blew up and revenge porn became a thing. On a lighter note. I met Stephen West many years ago, when I was a relatively new knitter. He taught a shawl knitting class at my lys. This was just before he moved to Amsterdam. He was the nicest, most patient teacher, and I will always credit him with making shawls my most favorite thing to knit. He is as nice as you think he is.
Going to start watching the Most Hated Man tonight, thanks for the recommendation! Oh I’m so so so jealous that you took a class from SW!! What a dream. He just seems so down to earth. I’m glad to hear that he is. Thanks for sharing Christine. (And I hope you took a pic with him)
I lost it when you said you got glued you bubble cowl🤣 I have been wanting to knit the bubble cardigan for quite some time and I have three colors picked out, I'm just trying to make the time to dye two more colors. I can't get over how gorgeous your lace and fade is. I'm so sorry that you don't reach for your Trinigan. I haven't worked with spincyle yarns because it is pricey. Primrose yarn has that type of handspun yarn and it actually is pretty decent and not as pricey as spincyle. Great episode Ms. Leena.
Well my thoughts on spincycle are pricey and disappointing. So you aren’t missing anything in my opinion. Especially if you can dye your own yarn! That has always been a dream of mine. I would love to see what you decide on for the bubble Cardi. It’s such a fun project and one you will live in!
Bubble Cardigan is fabulous. You did a great job with color choices. I love that the sleeves are knit in different colors from the rest of the cardi. I do that with some of my knits, knit the sleeves in different colors. I'll need to make the Bubble, and follow your short sleeve choice.
So what exactly is your secret for making everyone of your knits a success ?!? It’s all beautiful!! The hot glue part made me laugh so much! Knitting demands a lot of skill but this really illustrates how much creativity is need as well in order to find solutions all the time.
Thanks for the comparison between bubble and Trinigan. I hope to knit trinigan one day and pressed flowers cardi (I did knit the shawl and love it and bubble and love it.) I’m looking forward to seeing how the lace boxy looks when it’s worn. Colors are so beautiful!
@@AnotherKnittingPod I actually dyed my own yarn-a light lavender color and a speckled dark purple. I started dyeing last year just for fun. I’m still experimenting. It’s great to knit with yarn you’ve dyed yourself. I dyed some of my yarn for bubble cardi too. I actually knit it the bubble cardi in DK and just knit the smallest size.
Had to be patient and wait until Sunday morning to watch your podcast. No negative energy near my stitching. This week, our newly elected (3 out of 5 members) School Board called an Emergency School Board meeting to ban/censor a book that my team is getting ready to teach in less than 2 weeks. We had 48-hours notice. Worked with admin and the district to prepare a presentation (to educate Board on our process and state guidelines) for developing curriculum. I didn't sleep much because I was so upset. 5-hour board meeting Friday after school and could not be more proud of current and former students. 51 students and parents presented in support of keeping the novel, and 12 parents spoke against it. Board opted on 'no action' but another wave in our future... Send positive energy our way. (We do have an opt out process for all novels every single quarter as we respect parent and student rights to not read a novel they are uncomfortable with.) Anyway - I just added Stephen West's bubble cowl to my 'must stitch' list. I would never have even considered it until I saw you wear it. And yes, the two of your must meet in the future - I'll send out the energy to The Netherlands for you.
Oh Sylvia. I am so sorry to hear all this madness…I thought you were in California? Is that right? This is not what I expected from CA! Curious what grade you teach? Just know that you are a superhero and fighting not just for your students but all our students. It terrifies me how everything feels like it is going backwards these days…never thought I’d be witnessing what is happening. Truly scary. Hang in there and don’t back down!!
and your love for extraordinary designs! I've been admiring stephen west's designs but somehow they all seem so daunting, but your story is very encouraging 😊
I LOVE both your bubble cardigan and trinigan and your colors. Everything looks amazing on you and I wasn’t that inspired to make either before watching you in yours. Your bubble cardigan is really next level and somehow seems to have a gorg halo? And the bubble cowl is such a hardcore first project! Ty for sharing ❤
Awesome Pod Lena! Good to hear about your thoughts on the 2 cardigans. I have the Bubble Cardigan, & I do want to knit that one day. However I have just completed the Nostalgic Sweater Coat by Ailbíona McLochlainn & am just about to pick up stitches for the cuffs on the Big Cozy Cardi by Andrea Mowry, & it's the tail end of Summer here lol. So might be a while before I knit another cardigan I do love SW as well, I think he's one of the designers I've knit the most projects of. Now that I think of it, I have a UFO - the Brioche Breeze jacket I must finish !
Hi Julia! I just looked up that Sweater Coat-that looks like an epic knit! Must have taken a second, huh? Do you love the FO? And yes, I too am wrapping up my winter knits. Very sad about that. Somehow I never get as much done as I want!
@@AnotherKnittingPod it wasn't too bad a knit as I did mine as a jacket, rather than a coat as I would get more wear out of it. I'm sewing on the buttons now, but it's still too warm here in Australia to wear it yet
Whenever you post a new video, you make my day!! Love your passion for knitting (and all other things that bring you joy). Also love your taste in yarn and patterns. I can't wait to check out your podcast recommendations as I am a true crime devotee. Have you heard the SNL spoof on women loving "murder shows"? My husband thinks it was inspired by me 🙂. If you are looking for some good current fiction, here are a few I have recently read and enjoyed: Mad Honey by Jodi Picault, The Hotel Nantucket (lovely light vacation reading), The 7 Husbands of Evelyn Hugo which I'm currently reading. Also just read The Housemaid, and Maid (not related to The Housemaid). I'm on Goodreads if you want to connect! Happy Knitting my friend.
Thank you for your kind words and your book recs!! I will definitely check them out. I did love Evelyn Hugo. Such a fun read. Hope your weekend is full of knitting!
I know this is an older video but you mentioned the pressed flowers cardigan. Have you seen the shawl done in the Lamb and Kid yarn? It was on a Cady Jax visit to their shop. They did the shawl in hot pink and neon orange. It was one of the most gorgeous things I’ve ever seen and I’m not an orange lover. Their yarn has Yak in it too.
I LOVE yak!!! It’s one of the most unexpectedly luxurious fibers. Will look this up! I’ve always heard about the beauty of her yarns. I actually saw her and her booth at wool and folk last year but it was so busy I never attempted to get in!
I believe that shawl was knit up using their Tod base. Also the shawl is at the end of the video when Cady Jax visited Lamb & Kid. They start trying on samples in the shop. That shawl blew me away, the colors! I'd love to go there and just spend a week in that area. I've never been to Washington State.@@AnotherKnittingPod
Forgot to add - I highly recommend reading 'Daisy Jones and the Six.' I read it 2 summers ago (in a week) and kept googling the band because I was so sure the book was based on a real band and real characters. The new AmazonPrime series is doing a great job with it too. The music is absolutely adding to the story. Book is better, but the film adaptation is doing a great job so far!
I did read that when it came out and really liked it! There was an article I believe in the Washington Post just this week about how it was based on Fleetwood Mac…I found it fascinating! Going to start watching the series tonight 💚
I just love-love knitting to your podcast! And, you are not dramatic just very passionate and I love that! I’m now wanting to make a bubble cardigan. I love how versatile it can be and like the sleeve on yours. What is your Ravelry page? Going to go connect with you on insta. I’m not a big poster of things but I do stalk all the knitting pages 😅❤
Oh Nathalie, I’m plenty dramatic I’m sure!! You can’t fight nature! I’m on Ravelry but not active at all…I’m great at knitting but terrible at documenting my projects. Now that I’m on Instagram, my next hope is I can get myself to consistently post on Ravelry. You are giving me a much needed nudge. I think my user name on there is kirkette. 😘
Your Trinagan is gorgeous!!! I wonder if it softens after being washed a few times. I have 2 skeins of their Nocturne yarn and I noticed that it didn’t have a soft fuzzy factor to it. It’s gorgeous but not soft and yummy. I’ve only knit a swatch so far.
Exactly right! It’s beautiful to look at it but to me the feeling doesn’t translate against my skin. Such a shame. Maybe it’ll soften over time…its one of those pieces I have to force myself to wear. I don’t reach for it. Such a bummer because it was an investment in both time and money!
I just decided to use my Spincycle Nocturne in the color Chaos Theory for Jessie Maed's Gingham Raglan sweater, the main color will be Magpie Fibers Nest Sport in the color Smoke on the Water. I'm a bit nervous because I've never done stranded colorwork, and like you said it's a really big investment using these yarns and my time. Have you done stranded colorwork? If so, any words of wisdom? The disappointment when a sweater doesn't fit or just doesn't work is a real downer. I'm knitting the Nightshift Shawl right now and it's gorgeous! I chose 6 different Malabrigo Rios colors in jewel tones and they're really looking good together. My one concern here is, will it be drapey enough for a shawl? Rios is my favorite yarn to knit with, my hands don't get tired, and it's a nice weight so it's not fiddly and works up quickly. I love it! I'd like a sweater in these same colors. If Andrea Mowry would design one without the drop shoulder, I'd go for it. @@AnotherKnittingPod
Quite possibly, as neons and pastels together are really my jam. While I do love the colors, I just don’t love the feel of it. Such a bummer! I had such high hopes for Spincycle!

I read it 2 summers ago (in a week) and kept googling the band because I was so sure the book was based on a real band and real characters.
I knitted the pressed flower cardigan in Myak yarn as main color and Federbrook Entropy dk (if you did not like Spincycle cc yarn).
I love that cardigan so much! And yak fiber is so luxe. I’ll have to check out Feederbrook. I’ve heard good things!
The colors on the Trinigan also aren’t the neons that you so ❤ I wonder if that is unconsciously part of it?
Quite possibly, as neons and pastels together are really my jam. While I do love the colors, I just don’t love the feel of it. Such a bummer! I had such high hopes for Spincycle!
🤣hot glue and head glove😂😂😂💕🧶💕🧶💕🧶
Gotta make it work!
