The feeling of ball pocketing and compression against the strings is a life-long pursuit. You can feel it one day and it could easily disappear on a bad day.
That satisfying feeling comes with the unmistakable “pow” sound. U get that sound only when u hit it optimally and the ball feels like it is not there.
Dominant eye makes sense. But in general, the biggest flaw preventing from hitting the ball properly is the body misalignment. If you are crooked, you can do whatever you want, nothing good will come out. It is the most difficult thing to fix but it is way more efficient and your body will not suffer. You will also avoid a lot of injuries. PS: there are disciplines like ballet where they have to be perfectly balanced both sides. Why tennis should be different?
@@QwertyUser1983 idk where you got this from but it's absolutely incorrect. Tennis does not thrive in imbalance. Balance is so important in tennis. That's one of the reasons why we are constantly counterbalancing shots with our non dominant arm.
@QwertyUser1983 no, everything we do requires counterbalancing. Even walking. So unless you're about to argue humans are unbalanced then your argument does not hold
For right handed players: left eye dominant means you can better follow the ball on your forehand even if you have a big turn. If your right eye dominant with a big turn your right eye can’t see the ball that good if at all so you will try to play more open. Exactly reverse is true for backhand
@@firstbloood1 interesting I’ve never heard anyone or coach say anything about dominant eye until I saw Pats video spring up last year, I grew up in the 90s in Australia to and never heard it. That dominant eye test is something we neuroscientists make fun of. There is no such thing even though people feel like there is. And the "test" used here simply depends on where your hands are initially positioned relative to the object. You can make it come out as either left or right. Please stop the unscientific nonsense in coaching. 🤦🏻♂️🧠
Literally a google search will tell you the opposite. While not every single person has a dominant eye, the majority do, and yes it does affect performance in reading objects flying towards you such as in tennis.
@@pegtopmaster8780 I'm a brain scientist who has studied such things for over 30 years. As I said before, people have a sense that they prefer to use one eye more than the other. But there is no such functional advantage to that eye over the other. Further, the test he uses here is silly. Again, the answer you get depends simply on the initial position of your hands relative to the object.
@@pegtopmaster8780 how do you have the confidence to tell a neuroscientist that theyre wrong because google told you differently 😂 like the level of confidence and stupidity is impressive
The test is easy to improve. You just hold up one finger underneath your target, that way you are not blocking out the view from either eye to start with. Now see which closure changes the visual alignment. Also just occasionally close one eye in normal life while something is close to your face, like your phone in bed. You'll find closing one tends to consistently change your view, closing the other doesn't. I suspect they are a neuroscientist, but all kinds of people claim to be all kinds of things on the internet, so I can't blame anyone for discounting that. I discovered the idea of dominant eyes elsewhere than sports. I will read up on it more now, but the perception seems pretty common and strong in some cases. People's 'dominant' eye seems to have a good correlation with the eye that tests as having the best vision where there's any moderate or greater difference. Someone above said 'other than basic acuity'. How can you discount that? Surely basic acuity is quite important in sport! Would these naysayers denigrate selecting the best eye in aiming sports like archery or shooting where you can only line up one eye? Even for cases where the 'dominant' eye tests as being linked to better acuity, lower astigmatism etc and quite likely preferred by the brain for that reason?
@@artgreen6915 Of course visual acuity can be better in one eye but that's not what the concept of dominance is. Better acuity or astigmatism in one eye is simply vision, not any sort of dominant control over the other eye. This silly hand test does not test visual acuity. It simply demonstrates whether there is a straight line between each eye and your hand or finger and the object behind them both. It is meaningless and unreliable because entirely depends on the placement of your hand or finger. Eye dominance is a neuromyth.
I'm convinced the dominant eye shit is nonsense. It is true you have a dominant eye, but adjusting what type of a shot you hit based on this, it's bs. It doesn't matter.
I mean I just completely disagree. I’m a righty but I only found I was left eye dominant through Patrick’s other videos on this. I used to struggle on my backhand side for a pretty long time and it was only until I applied this concept into figuring out recently that I could take the mental cue of seeing the ball a lot deeper into my hitting zone on my left side, and now my backhand is working out 10x better than before. Tennis stroke form, as I’m sure you and a bunch of other people know, is just a bunch of mental cues to give you confidence on how you can hit your shots. It’s up to you to discern whether or not concepts like this will help your swing, not if it helps or doesn’t help others
